After ordering from here a few times, I don't think I would recommend this place. The food is a little too greasy, and the quality has gone downhill. Their bubble tea tastes horrible. I've been sticking to the Chicken Lo Mein, it's not bad. But after trying their Lobster Lo Mein, it didn't give me a pleasant feeling in my stomach. The man who delivers my food is nice, but the woman in the restaurant is rude. The staff doesn't say much and the service is meh. There are definitely better places to get Chinese food from. The day after Christmas, my boyfriend's family ordered takeout from Happy Garden, and we got to enjoy the food at home. They're experts at this restaurant's menu, so we got egg rolls, shrimp fried rice, and pork ribs. They were especially excited about the pork ribs, which lived up to the hype! Pretty good. The egg rolls and fried rice were okay. No complaints here. Egg rolls are definitely made differently on the East Coast compared to California! Oh Happy Garden, how thou hast fallen! This place used to be one of the better Chinese food spots in the area, but now it's certainly one of the worst. To put it bluntly: It has hit 1 star level for me, which means I don't intend to eat their food ever again. In the past years, the quality has declined and has reached the point where a bad meal is almost guaranteed. Though to be fair, I should clarify that I'm only referring to the take out, as I haven't eaten in the place for years. As for the take out, my past experiences include completely soggy dishes like General Tso's chicken and Sesame Shrimp, oddly textured bean curd which is also soggy (General Tso's bean curd), and some pretty bad meat-vegetable ratio in various shrimp dishes. Let me start by saying that this isn't an attack on a local business/restaurant. It's just the truth and hopefully they can benefit by reading this. I've order from here a handful of times throughout the years and have never been impressed with their soggy general tso's chicken. However, every once in a while I'll roll the dice and give it another try. This time I ordered the dim sum, chicken satay, and spring roll. The spring roll was ok. Nothing to rave about or much to complain about. Satisfactory at best... The dim sum was worse than any frozen shumai/dumplings you can buy at the supermarket. The shumai was almost too salty to eat and the shrimp dumplings had virtually no filling at all. The chicken satay shouldn't even belong on the menu. It was pretty much salty bland chicken skewers with warm thinned out peanut butter as the sauce. Very disappointing and no satay flavor whatsoever. With all that said, I'm surprised this takeout spot has survived for this long. The food desperately needs some improvement. As far as the service goes, the staff is friendly and have had no problems in that regard. I hope the restaurant takes this review and many others into consideration. I have to say that the place has had it's ups and downs. The consistency of the cooking has changed. There are days when it is great and other days when it's "What just happened here?" Same food order, different cook? No idea. I think that the service has something to be desired because there seems to be a bit of difficulty in ordering by phone here. This is a neighborhood joint that at one time was better. It's funny because half my family likes this place a lot and the other half does not. I am the half that would not want to go back. While it's not a big restaurant there are many open tables. And still service was slow and bad. The food is where we all have a deferent view. The spare ribs are downright awful everyone agrees with that. The fried rice is split 50/50 I personally like dark fried rice rather than very light others love it. Rest of food is split 5/50 as well but I am the only one who ordered the seafood delight and it was not delightful. They use frozen seafood that was in freezer way too long. The scallops were not edible. From my perspective this is a no go again. I would give this another half star only because half my family is cool with place. read more

"Hair in the food" This place is so conveniently located near my house that i wish they were at least decent First time i ordered the order was completely wrong. This was not delivery, it was at the location. I could not communicate enough with them to correct it so i got aggravated and left. Months later i stopped in here just to pick up plain lomein. How can you screw that up right ? It was the worst i ever had but what do you really expect from a lomein, no biggie until there was a long piece of hair in it that is just gross. Hands down my favorite Chinese restaurant. I've moved twice since living/eating near Happy Garden and have never found anything that comes close. Everyone has their go-to dish, so it's the basis on which I compare different take-out locations, but no one's egg roll or pork fried rice is tastier. My wife loves the won ton soup and tolerates my long drives from a few towns over for dinner because it's THAT good. One recommendation, if you're a pork fried rice fan, the pieces of pork can be lacking in combinations, but if you're looking for a large meal, you can order an entree size of whatever dish, and a pint or quart of fried rice because those are always jammed with large pieces of pork, onion and everything nice. They don't use egg in their rice, which is okay, but they also don't use a very fake and bland 'orange' sauce for their General Tso/Sesame Chicken dishes which is amazing considering how often I see that other places and am thoroughly disappointed. My favorite take out order is the house special Mei Fun, enough included for me to have two meals out of it. The restaurant is clean, intimate and friendly. Note they have a special lunch menu with special low pricing. The tea is good too, and that's from a non tea drinker. Their egg rolls never seem greasy or oily, and their vegetables are always fresh tasting. Do try the 'mei fun' house special, you'll like it. Good prices for quality food. Take out time was a little lengthy but overall good. I enjoyed my food and have gone back for take out serval times. Customer service to decent and friendly. It is also in a convenient shopping center which is good. It is definitely in the better side than surrounding Chinese take out places. BE AWARE I had THE WORST experience with their delivery service. I've ordered a lunch about 10 dollars. When the delivery man came, I gave him $20, expecting to get my change, I told him just give $5 back is fine. but then he did not give back any change, He REFUSED to give any change.
