Limited tables for seating. They close for breakfast at 11:00am and reopen at 11:30am for lunch. (Today is a Sunday) The vibe and crowd was very relaxed and locals seemed to enjoy the entertainment. We ordered lunch from the lunch menu. My daughter had 2 piece fish/chips basket and I had the Shrimp basket. My daughter also ordered a pineapple creamy float. It was icy and delicious. Stopped by on a Sunday morning for a coffee and breakfast burrito. Both were great, I really liked the white chocolate Macadamia latte with all the whipped cream and drizzle of caramel. So yummy! I usually don't like whipped cream on my coffee but I'm glad I got this time. It is sweet but I have a sweet tooth so it was perfect for me. The views of the seating area facing the harbor are amazing! I wanted to stay there all day enjoying the peaceful view. There are lots of birds flying around trying to eat your food but we just kept shoo-ing them away. The service was quick and all the workers were very friendly. A sturdy table with ample shade in the grass, as well as ice cold bowls of water for the dogs made it's a perfect place to eat with 4 dogs. I went with a wagyu patty on the Californian burger with extra crispy fries, juicy beef and absolutely perfect crispy fries. Pro tip - bring a lawn chair because the picnic tables go fast. You order at the window and a server brings your food out to you. My wife and I shared the Boatswain Sandwich ($15) and the /sunrise Quesadilla ($16). The Boatswain sandwich had scrambled egg, melted cheese, and bacon on Texas toast. YUMM!!! The quesadilla also had scrambled egg, bacon, and melted cheese. They give sour cream and salsa to add to your own taste. Also really good. Portion size is huge - we came in hungry and still could only finish about half. Ambiance is 5+++. Food is a 5. And, despite the long line at the window to order, service is quite good. Really surprised it took me awhile to find this place considering how many times I got to the harbor. We were on our way to the Channel Islands National Park Visitor Center when we discovered it. I am glad we finally did. I love how its outdoors. You have a nice view of the harbor. They have bench seating on a big lawn area so its perfect for little ones to run around and enjoy being outdoors. They have a few cabana feeling seating as well. They are open for breakfast and lunch. We got there shortly before they opened for lunch. There was a small line forming already but not to crazy. My husband got their Californian Burger. I got their Calamari basket. Burger came with one side. The basket, to my surprise, came with 2 which was perfect. The dipping sauces the calamari came with were both very delicious. It's rare when I like both. The calamari was so good. I wanted more. My husband really enjoyed his burger as well. Overall, we loved this place. We will be coming back here again. Love this little hidden gem at the end of the Ventura harbor. Don't be discouraged if you see long lines, they move quickly taking orders. We went for breakfast and my son loved it so much, we had to go back for lunch the day after. For brekky we got moco loco which was beautifully served. Pretty flavorful and just the right ratio of the gravy and rice. For lunch we got fish and chips and after tasting the best ones in Britain, I was skeptical I'd like anything else but their cod fish and chips pretty pretty amazing. Fries perfectly so they were not soggy inside and still not feeling super greasy. Accompanied by some Cole slaw and fries. Hit the right spot. Seating on the lawn you can get a show watching all the different types of herons nesting in the closest tree or you can seat in their covered patio and be serenaded by the sea lions and get a free show of pelicans diving for food. Harbor Cove Cafe is a new favorite of mine! I'd been dying to try this spot for ages and I'm so happy that my friends and I finally made it for lunch. Here is the breakdown. I think this spot is a solid 4.5 but we know I'll always round up. The food was about a 4/5 but the service, menu selection, and atmosphere was a solid 5/5. The concept is very beachy and a true local find. You drive down to the harbor near where it dead ends and you'll find this lovely little restaurant. Major bonus points for the location. I love how it's away from all the hustle and bustle of the main harbor yet you still get those fabulous harbor views. A real treat! They also have their own parking lot which is a major plus. Super easy access. The restaurant itself is inviting, you order at the counter and then find yourself a spot to sit as they'll bring your food out to you. They have lovely picnic style benches overlooking the harbor. We also saw after the fact that they have a cute patio to the right of the ordering counter. Their menu is large and easy to read. It was our first time so we gathered around the front to check out the menu and we appreciated that we weren't rush. The service here is fantastic. Everyone was so nice and welcoming. The gal taking our order was super friendly and sweet. I also really appreciated her flexibility with us. As three friends we asked if we could all pay separate but that our food be put on one ticket so everything would come out together, she easily obliged us and was so nice about it. When our food was brought to our table they had multiple people carrying it out and everyone continued to be lovely and engaging. Our food came out correct to order and they also provided us a pro tip that they are going to start rolling out dinner to test it out this week. I hope they are successful because it would be great to know we could dine here three times throughout the day as they have both an extensive breakfast and lunch menu. My friends and I agreed the food ranged from 4-5 stars depending what we ordered. I had the cup of clam chowder and the moco loco. The clam chowder is a 3.5 about. We all agreed it wasn't the best we've had but it definitely hit the spot. I actually liked that they put a little cheese on top. Also what made this dish even better was that they served it with a side of sourdough bread, such a good idea. My friend that had the club sandwich and the fried popcorn shrimp claimed both dishes were an easy 5. Super tasty and huge portions. My moco loco was a 4.5 and I would definitely recommend this dish. It normally would be a 5 but some of my rice was on the hard side and clumped together, felt like I was getting the bottom batch from the rice cooker. But The actual flavors though of the burger Patty and the gravy sauce topped with the fried egg were fantastic! It's hard to get good Hawaiian dishes in the 805 and I really loved this meal. I'm already thinking of when I can come back to get this again. Next on my list is to come back for breakfast. The breakfast burritos here look out of this world and I really want to try one of their Hawaiian breakfast burritos with spam. Yum! Also I really appreciate that they open at 7:30am it says. I work at 8am and it's hard to find a local spot that opens before that so that I can get some stellar bfast burritos to go. Can't wait to come back and to report on their breakfast.
