    Bowl of gumbo
    Dani P.

We came here before the Lions Thursday night game. We didn't have reservations but we were able to sit at the bar and have the full menu. It was so cold outside and every other place had 45+min wait....The place is dark but decorated very nice. We sat at the bar and we were greeted immediately and asked what we wanted to drink. Our drinks came out quickly and the bar tender was so nice she gave us some recommendations (knowing that we weren't locals). My man got the catfish bites (appetizer) and a bowl of gumbo. I got a side house salad (it wasn't that big but just enough), and onion rings. The bartender told us they make their own batter and oh wow were they good! The place filled up fast and I could hear the hostess as everyone if they had a reservation. I think this is the happening spot before a game.....they definitely had regulars there! Glad we went..food and service was great! The only negative was the bread they gave us...it seemed old, flaky and hard...

Christmas tree in the waiting area

Had reservations for a Thursday night for 2. Went inside at reservation time and place was packed. Told hostess the reservation name, she looked at nothing, and said it's gonna be a 45 minute wait. Considered waiting, but after seeing the Christmas tree in 4 pieces on the ground of the dining room I can't imagine what the kitchen looks like. Went elsewhere

My mother and I had concert tickets at the Music Hall and wanted to find a good restaurant within walking distance to the venue where we could eat and drink. Harbor House popped up and we both looked at each other and said Harbor House? I've passed it by several times and never noticed it. The reviews looked good and the food looked even better. While it is more seafood focused, the steaks are legit. I ordered a ribeye medium rare. It came out closer to medium which is still fine to me. I tend to order medium rare just for this reason. Every cook is different and their version of medium rare can vary. Our waitress suggested a side of zip sauce for the steak. Their zip sauce is delicious and definitely the best I've ever had. Including from high-end steakhouses. My mom ordered the crab stuffed salmon and it was excellent. The portion was huge. I feel like we could have shared the plate and still had leftovers. Our meals came with a dinner salad with and fresh bread. In addition to a side of your choice. I opted for steam broccoli and my mom chose Jasmine rice. We set up at the bar and enjoyed the ambience. The drinks were strong and reasonably priced. I had a Kettle One dirty martini for $10. Not sure but we may have been on happy hour. Either way for a downtown restaurant the prices were reasonable and the food was great. The only reason for four stars instead of five was the service was a little lackluster. We waited for a good 10 minutes before we were acknowledged. Then another five minutes before our waitress brought us a menu or our drink order. Not the end of the world but for it being an early dinner and not very busy the service could've been a little more attentive. Either way Harbor House was a great find with the location accessible to so many downtown venues.

The waitress named "Brook" is the worst. She is rude and slow. And look at your receipt she puts a tip on it and she doesn't deserve it. Food is absolutely great, hands downs. Ambiance is nice.

Harbor house is more of an upscale restaurant. That sells top choice steak and seafood. It is a bit pricey but we'll worth the price. To drink I ordered the jumbo original margarita. Only $9 for a 24oz, and it was very strong. For an entree I ordered the double catfish Cajun fried with a Caesar Salad and an baked potato. The catfish wasn't too spicy and it was fried and seasoned perfectly. The baked potato came with butter and sour cream I ordered cheese on the side. My friend ordered three crab cakes for an entree that came with a mustard aoli sauce. Everything was delicious. Our server was very attentive and she was very helpful wand patient with our questions and taking our orders $$$ - pretty pricey 10/10 Worth it

Came to try this place on father's day. Made a reservation and was seated promptly. The website mentions they have lot parking, doesn't mention there is a cash only charge for it. Destiny was our server and she was personable. For some reason drinks aren't listed on the menu. why? Quick line about serving pepsi products will save your servers from repeating it to every customer. We start with bread and a cinnamon butter creation. It's ok if your into that. We were not. Next we had salads. Rather than apply the dressing to the salad they bring all these small individual containers of dressing. Seems like such an unnecessary waste. The fathers all had steak and shrimp which they seemed to enjoy. I had the shrimp scampi pasta. It was really just shrimp and pasta, no scampi flavor at all. I ended up taking all of this home to properly season it. This restaurant also adds 20% gratuity. I have no issue with tipping however... If your adding a mandatory gratuity make it well known from the start before ordering. Don't bring me a receipt to sign with a tip line when you've already included that. Additionally, when your server brings the final bill to sign bring back the detailed version so we can see the items charged at the same time. This seems a bit sneaky and an attempt to gain additional tip money.

Way overpriced for the amount of crab they give you. The lobster mac was great though. I'll give them that. Service was good too. Just disappointed by the crab and feel like it was overpriced

Nicole having fun eating crab legs

Four of us went for lunch all you can eat crab legs it was our first time at this restaurant . The crab legs were hot and fresh, it was a good experience. The waitress Jessica was friendly, nice and helpful. She was good at keeping the crab legs coming and having our beverages refilled. It was worth the price. I was the only one that didn't eat the other sides. Jessica serve was so good I give her more than a 20 percent tip. I will be going back real soon.

Was looking for seafood in Detroit and stumbled upon Harbor House. We called ahead and fortunately, there was no wait for our group of 4. We were seated right away. The restaurant is big and spacious, but a little dark. They served us complimentary soft, warm bread to start which my table of four devoured within minutes. I ordered the crab cakes for my entree. The crab cakes came with jumbo lump crab and a French ground mustard aioli. I chose broccoli as my side and added a caesar side salad as well. The crab cakes were tasty and the salad was fresh. My son chose the rattle steak pasta. It has tenderloin tips, peppers, onions, mushrooms, spinach, penne and cajun creme. It looked rich and flavorful. He ate it all. Our server was new, but he was fantastic. He was very friendly and attentive throughout our meal. The manager/owner also stopped by to check on our table. Great experience overall.

I highly recommend getting the bone marrow and you can't go wrong with any of the steaks. They are locally sourced which makes them that much better. The steak was cooked just how I want it. They were only about the size of a Bing cherry, but the little fried morsal was so delicious. I could have definitely eaten more. Next, we were served the seafood. Honestly, I can't remember having seafood that tasted this fresh in Michigan. This was the first time I really enjoyed crawfish. The crab cluster was so sweet, and I was a huge fan of the clams and mussels. Marrow had seasoned butter for dipping all of the seafood in, and it was to die for! The dessert was a very surprising and delicious dirt cake, complete with gummy worms! The chocolate tasted elevated from the elementary school version, which I appreciated. My husband and I are definitely looking forward to attending another one of these!

Lauren took great care of us and encouraged us to order whatever we were craving. Dangerous advice, but we happily accepted . Warning - the ratings are real. They're not a mistake. We started with our usual cocktail, the Instant Karma (5/5). It is the perfect balance of citrus and salt with a light cucumber note. Clean, refreshing, and it pairs well with everything. The roasted sweet potato (6/5) is one of the best vegetable dishes in the city. The caramelized exterior gives way to a soft interior, and the crispy quinoa adds a subtle light crunch that plays against the creamy texture. The salsa macha brings a smoky, nutty depth without the heat, and the crema ties it all together. I had to physically stop myself from scraping the plate (actually they had to take it away ). The tagliatelle (5/5) with beef bolognese and parmesan was flawless. The pasta has that ideal handmade chew, and the bolognese is rich without being heavy. The parmesan blends perfectly into the sauce and stands out in every bite. The potato pierogi (10/5) were the star of the night. Soft potato-filled pillows with horseradish crema, apple, and crispy shallot pieces create this perfect sweet, tangy, creamy, and crunchy bite. Each forkful felt intentional and balanced. I felt guilty, because in my head, I didn't want to share with my wife, but I did anyways . The cruelty of having to split an odd number of pierogis...well played...we should have just ordered another one. We also ordered the smoked potatoes and the pan roasted half chicken with sauce au poivre (always 5/5 for both) The smoked potatoes, with raclette, and crème fraîche, are always a must. These winter variation was just as good! The chicken remains one of the most consistently well-executed mains in the city. I have tried recreating it at home with the cold pan method and it never comes close. Every time we dine here, it feels like four or five different dinner experiences in one evening. Selden Standard continues to set the bar for us in Detroit. We love the staff, the food, and the memories tied to this place. Cheers to many more amazing years to come!

My husband surprised me with a birthday dinner here, and I'm glad that we got to experience it. We arrived in advance of our reservation and grabbed a seat at the bar. The bartender brought us a glass of wine while we waited. It took about a half hour, but we were shown to our table for the night and promptly greeted by our server. All of the food looked amazing, both on the menu and with what people were ordering at other tables. We chose a variety of dishes - cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, squid ink orecchiette, octopus, mushrooms, and scallops. I would recommend all of them, but the standouts for me were the Brussels sprouts and the scallops. Flavors were unique and textures were especially on point with those dishes. Service was good, but we both felt like it was slow. There was a slight glitch in the beginning of the night where the host stand didn't mark that we had checked in when we actually had, which probably contributed to the half hour wait at the bar. Aside from those points, it was an impeccable night!

Atmosphere is nice, decor is very cool, and the setting is intimate, but when it fills up, it is quite loud. He absolutely made her night. We all shared the Brussel Sprouts (w/ honey, lime, & chicken skin) and Octopus appetizers. The Brussels were heavenly and the octopus was flavorful and tender (very nicely prepared). Aside from the Steelhead entrée, my wife and son both had the Ribeye Cap w/ yaji, peanut, & kiwi. They couldn't stop raving about it. The pairing of kiwi with steak was delicious and creative! We ended up being placed on the "veranda" which was an enclosed space with about 4-5 tables. They had heaters, but fortunately, it was warm enough that they were not needed. SERVICE - my friend made it well known that we were there for my birthday, but I'd like to think even without the birthday drop, we would have gotten great service. Our server was friendly, attentive and made a number of recommendations to help guide our dining experience. MENU - Grey ghost has a rotating menu, with a few items that our consistently featured (I'll talk about my burger later). An interesting array of starters including brussel sprouts and coconut shrimp as well as a great variety of main entrees. I feel like there was something for all tastes at this place. They also had a good variety of cocktails and mocktails. FOOD - We started off with shrimp tempura which had a tropical salad of some sort served with it. The shrimp were cooked perfectly, and the tropical salad really complimented it very well. We also decided to try their home made Rock and Rye (their take on Faygo's marquee drink of the same name). The Rock and Rye was decent, but if you want rock and rye, nothing beats the original. For our main dishes, a number of things caught our eye. including the lamb and ribeye, but we ended up going with their burger and a side of fries and their wild boar pappardelle. I've heard Grey Ghost has one of the best burgers in Detroit, and it did not disappoint. And you know we had put an egg on it and it was rocking. I don't know what the burger sauce they put on it was, but it seemed like a much, MUCH better executed big mac. The fries were great as well. The pappardelle was good, nothing mind blowing, but a solid entree in it's own right. I was curious how the burger here compares to the one at their sister restaurant (Little Ghost) and the host said the quality of meat used in the patty is better at Grey Ghost than little ghost. Guess I'm going to have to go there as well. OVERALL - definitely worth a visit. I'd say a good spot for a first date, or some other sort of special occasion. I won't wait as long to make a trip back to this place, that's for sure. CELEBRITY RATING - Collin Jost

Between the two of us we had the beet salad, burger and steak tartare. Burger was good, but not the best smash burger that I've had. Beet salad was fine, however the cream cheese was a bit overpowering against the orange oil. It was dying for some citrus. Steak tartare was a bit dry, meaning that a small dab of olive oil would have added to the richness and overall mouth feel. I did not really taste the egg although I did see a dab of yolk on the tartare. Needed a bit of salt also to enhance the taste Menu was small, but it did cover a cross section of French bistro dishes. All in all, I thought it was a bit overpriced. So I will have to consider returning for a full meal. I would come back for a burger and beer at the bar.
