Harbor House I hope and pray that this review is visible for all to see. My bestie and I went to Harbor House Detroit today, the food was absolutely horrible . We were shocked and so very disappointed with a bill of $210 dollars. The crab legs were puny and tasteless, the Gumbo, let's not even go there, the crab cakes were awful, I believe they take the meet out of the crab legs cluster and used it for the crab cakes, the drawn butter was not drawn butter at all and tasted old, top shelf long island needs to go on the bottom shelf or underneath the floorboards, on top of that there's am automatic 20% gratuity, which I would have had no problem with if the food was satisfactory. We did find out that this location was under new management and it definitely shows. I have never in my life tasted such bad food for the prices they are charging whole new menu, no more all you can eat crab legs. It was just awlful. To think we left the Clinton Township location for this crab. This place won't be in business much longer with the quality of their food. Who charges 12 for an iceberg lettuce salad. Been craving crab legs for a minute, and sadly most Chinese buffets no longer include crab legs in their dinner buffet (though their quality was often questionable anyways). Harbor House to the rescue. Though a little pricey at $70, it makes up for it by including AYCE salad/soup and hot entrees. Entrees include their amazing marinated London broil, cod, shrimp, chicken wings, and more. The meal also included a baked potato/fries. Crab legs to the main stage! They were tasty, and most tasted very fresh and light versus feeling old and dry. Unlimited lemon wedges and clarified butter, also. My family and I visit this restaurant often. They are under new management apparently, oh yeah it was on the news, I forgot... The menu did change. The staff was nice. We came here before the Lions Thursday night game. We didn't have reservations but we were able to sit at the bar and have the full menu. It was so cold outside and every other place had 45+min wait....The place is dark but decorated very nice. We sat at the bar and we were greeted immediately and asked what we wanted to drink. Our drinks came out quickly and the bar tender was so nice she gave us some recommendations (knowing that we weren't locals). My man got the catfish bites (appetizer) and a bowl of gumbo. I got a side house salad (it wasn't that big but just enough), and onion rings. The bartender told us they make their own batter and oh wow were they good! My mother and I had concert tickets at the Music Hall and wanted to find a good restaurant within walking distance to the venue where we could eat and drink. Harbor House popped up and we both looked at each other and said Harbor House? I've passed it by several times and never noticed it. The reviews looked good and the food looked even better. While it is more seafood focused, the steaks are legit. I ordered a ribeye medium rare. It came out closer to medium which is still fine to me. I tend to order medium rare just for this reason. Every cook is different and their version of medium rare can vary. Our waitress suggested a side of zip sauce for the steak. Their zip sauce is delicious and definitely the best I've ever had. Including from high-end steakhouses. My mom ordered the crab stuffed salmon and it was excellent. The portion was huge. I feel like we could have shared the plate and still had leftovers. Our meals came with a dinner salad with and fresh bread. In addition to a side of your choice. I opted for steam broccoli and my mom chose Jasmine rice. We set up at the bar and enjoyed the ambience. The drinks were strong and reasonably priced. I had a Kettle One dirty martini for $10. Not sure but we may have been on happy hour. Either way for a downtown restaurant the prices were reasonable and the food was great. The only reason for four stars instead of five was the service was a little lackluster. We waited for a good 10 minutes before we were acknowledged. Then another five minutes before our waitress brought us a menu or our drink order. Only $9 for a 24oz, and it was very strong. For an entree I ordered the double catfish Cajun fried with a Caesar Salad and an baked potato. The catfish wasn't too spicy and it was fried and seasoned perfectly. The baked potato came with butter and sour cream I ordered cheese on the side. My friend ordered three crab cakes for an entree that came with a mustard aoli sauce. Everything was delicious. Came to try this place on father's day. Made a reservation and was seated promptly. The website mentions they have lot parking, doesn't mention there is a cash only charge for it. Destiny was our server and she was personable. For some reason drinks aren't listed on the menu. why? Quick line about serving pepsi products will save your servers from repeating it to every customer. We start with bread and a cinnamon butter creation. It's ok if your into that. We were not. Next we had salads. Rather than apply the dressing to the salad they bring all these small individual containers of dressing. Seems like such an unnecessary waste. The fathers all had steak and shrimp which they seemed to enjoy. I had the shrimp scampi pasta. It was really just shrimp and pasta, no scampi flavor at all. I ended up taking all of this home to properly season it. This restaurant also adds 20% gratuity. I have no issue with tipping however... If your adding a mandatory gratuity make it well known from the start before ordering. Don't bring me a receipt to sign with a tip line when you've already included that. Additionally, when your server brings the final bill to sign bring back the detailed version so we can see the items charged at the same time. Me and my wife decided to do a date night at harbor house, one of our favorite restaurants in the D. What we thought would be another enjoyable evening at the classic Harbor House quickly turned into a disappointment. We came in to find a totally new menu due to a new owner . We took a glance at the more expensive menu and sadly didn't see our favorite platters, or anything we wanted to try so we decided to take the 20 minute drive to the harbor house in Clinton Township. Four of us went for lunch all you can eat crab legs it was our first time at this restaurant . The crab legs were hot and fresh, it was a good experience. The waitress Jessica was friendly, nice and helpful. She was good at keeping the crab legs coming and having our beverages refilled. It was worth the price. Was looking for seafood in Detroit and stumbled upon Harbor House. We called ahead and fortunately, there was no wait for our group of 4. We were seated right away. The restaurant is big and spacious, but a little dark. They served us complimentary soft, warm bread to start which my table of four devoured within minutes. I ordered the crab cakes for my entree. The crab cakes came with jumbo lump crab and a French ground mustard aioli. I chose broccoli as my side and added a caesar side salad as well. The crab cakes were tasty and the salad was fresh. My son chose the rattle steak pasta. It has tenderloin tips, peppers, onions, mushrooms, spinach, penne and cajun creme. It looked rich and flavorful. He ate it all. Hubby and I arrived at Harbor House after our first plan didn't work out because they couldn't accommodate our time frame. We wandered around for almost 1/2 hour looking for someplace a)good and b)quick and walked into Harbor House on the off chance they could get us in and out in 45 minutes. And they could! We experienced friendly, quick service and - most importantly - great food! We shared two apps, crab cakes and steak tips, and a side of fries. The crab cakes here are up there with the best I've had, delivered with a creamy mustard sauce that's good enough to eat off a spoon (but don't. Put the sauce on your crab cake for perfection). We ordered the steak tips medium rare and they came out medium rare, which is - well - rare. They were delicious, with a salty, savory bistro sauce for dipping. And last not definitely not least, the French fries were Ah. Maze. Ing. I think they were coated in corn starch before frying, and they were the perfect blend of super crisp exterior and pillowy interior. We left satisfied and in time for our show! read more

I read from other reviews that the service comes with complimentary bread but we did not receive that. Upon looking at the menu I thought that the prices were a bit high, but I definitely understood when the food came out. The side salad was massive, as were all of the other portions. It's quite crazy to think how much food we got. I ordered the half rack of ribs, which are a dry rub and we're pretty good. It was tender but a bit over cooked. On top of that, the side of broccoli was massive and I swear half a head of broccoli. The waitress provided great attentive service even though it was busy and she was really great. We dined here twice before and it was a nice experience, however this time we invited our son whom was home from the military to visit during the holidays, and the experience was very disappointing to me. The table was broken with a wobbly leg, the waitress was somewhat rude as she yelled "I'll be right with you" in a harsh tone when I held up my hand to get her attention... It felt embarrassing, and the food was just okay, I ordered a Caesar salad, but the lettuce was welted and doused in ranch dressing (see photo below). I try to eat it however it was not eatable. We ended up here kind of randomly tonight - a friend and I were going to go to Basement Burger Bar before a show at Music Hall, but there was a 40-minute wait and our show was in 90 minutes. My friend thought she remembered seeing "Hunter House" Hamburgers (like the place in Bham) and it turned out it was this place, Harbor House. It was empty inside so we decided to try it out. I'm not a seafood person and my friend only likes certain type of seafood so we both got the burger ($11.95, $13.95 if you want bacon and additional toppings). As far as burgers go, it was pretty good, although the sauteed onions on top were bland. The fries that came with it were also very tasty, they were those buttery kind that certain places seem to have. Forgot to mention: their bread came out warm, and with some kind of (honey? cinnamon?) butter. Not QUITE as good as Texas Roadhouse's, but pretty good. Waitservice was fast too and we were out within an hour, which was great since we had a show to catch. I will say that their bathroom stall (non-handicapped) was teeny tiny ... like, my knees were touching the door, tiny - but that's a small complaint. I'd come back here again if I needed a quick bite to eat before an Opera House or Music Hall show. I saw they had a $23.95 or $24.95 "all you can eat deal" too which included some pretty random stuff (seafood, but also like pork chops ...) so if you're a seafood fan and are super hungry, that might be a deal for you. read more

Went here before the Taylor swift concert. We got an appetizer of crab stuffed jalapeños. You couldn't taste any crab at all, mostly just flavored cream cheese. Our entrees came out, well two of the 3 did. Mine was taking forever, they were almost done eating when mine came out. At that point i had eaten a bunch of fries from another plate and wasn't very hungry anymore. Food was underwhelming, and service was ok. The atmosphere was just like a pub/bar. Harbor house is my low carb go to when I am on Keto. I will talk about my potato later, ignore that. While seafood can be high in cholesterol it is low in fat when eaten in moderation and not dipped in butter! Who are we kidding? I am dipping it in butter. Which is ok when I am on keto. As I stated earlier look over the potato reference which is coming up. Anywho... I need to expand my pallet but I get my go to meal here. I usually get the side salad with the fixings, add bacon and cheese, and ranch dressing. If I don't get the salad I get the black eyed peas soup. It is full of collards, meat, not sure if it is turkey or pork. The black eye peas are tender and cooked to perfection. Oh by the way, the lighting and the music are both low, yet welcoming. Ambiance is important. Ok, back to the good stuff. The food. I get the ribs and crab with broccoli and loaded baked potato. Out of all the seafood I must say these crab legs are the cleanest and freshest I have had in Detroit. The ribs are tender, juicy and succulent. The loaded baked potato (not keto, I know) gets to my mouth a few times before fullness kicks in. I usually have it the next day. The broccoli is crunchy, well seasoned and still green, meaning it has not been cooked to death. Harbor house feels like home. It's simple, quiet, yet not pretentious.
