The burger did not seem to be great quality and was grey in color. Onion rings were a star here! The sweet tea was also very good. Our server was overwhelmed and did the best she could. I think she was the only server working a handful of tables. She was friendly, but felt scattered. The restaurant had several dirty tables and tables that were dirty underneath. Likely the result of a young diner, but it gave an overall appearance of being unclean. Decor was stark. I hope our experience was just a bad night.

It was delicious with some onions and what tasted like bacon fat on it. The kiddos got items from the kids' menu - a simple pasta and a small pizza. There was a special while we visited (Oktoberfest, I think) that had some fantastic German items, including a killer schnitzel with sour red cabbage and mashed potatoes. It was fantastic. I got a couple of the on-tap beers and enjoyed them much. There is a respectable cocktail menu (any of them can be made mocktail if you want). One thing I appreciated very much was how family-friendly the place is. Our waitress saw Child #3 starting to melt down and brought him over some toys to play with, commenting that she had kids of her own. Indeed, in the corner, there is a whole table full of toys for kids to play with. Even the bathroom has a full changing table setup, which is way better than those wall changing tables. The food was the real highlight. The burgers were cooked perfectly, the beef tasted fresh and flavorful, and the garlic mashed potatoes were delicious. We also really enjoyed the soup of the day and the hummus of the day. The only thing that didn't completely wow us was the steak. It certainly wasn't bad but we just happen to be very particular when it comes to steak. Overall, this was an excellent meal with great service in a welcoming atmosphere. The meatloaf was tasty - however, only the ends of it were hot. The center of the meatloaf was actually cold. The corn was terrible. It was chewy - I have no idea how you get corn to that texture. The masked potatoes were basic - but at least well executed and they were hot. No gravy was served with the mashed potatoes. I was in a bit of a hurry - so I did not ask them to "re-heat" the remaining center of meatloaf - and the corn was not redeemable. Breakfast: I went with their sausage gravy over a biscuit, eggs, breakfast potatoes and bacon, plus coffee. Everything was delicious - except for the breakfast potatoes. They were bland and at room temperature. I don't know how the potatoes were actually prepared - but texture-wise they tasted like someone had cut potatoes into cubes, boiled them, and then set them on a plate. The potatoes desperately needed some char/crispiness added to them, as well as some seasoning. I had wolfed down all of my breakfast - except for the potatoes - when my server came by to check on me. She asked how things were - and I relayed that everything was good - except for the potatoes. She offered to take the potatoes back and have the kitchen heat them up and add some char/crispiness to them. I declined - as at that point I was full. The successful components of my breakfast dragged up my overall rating to 3. I probably would have gone as high as 4 stars if the potatoes were better. The food is mediocre, but will fill you up if you need something on your stomach before touring the caverns. But I agree with others here who recommend trying somewhere else for better options. It's mostly sandwiches or simple grill options - burgers, pulled pork sandwiches, fries, etc. There are almost no vegetarian options available. They have some pre-made sandwiches but seemed to be out when we were there. They also have some locally-made desserts for purchase but we didn't get any on our visit. We came in during the lunch rush on a weekend, so it was slow moving to get to the order counter and then to wait for our food to be ready. Plan accordingly especially if, like us, you have a toddler with you. The bathrooms are tight and cramped, but at least there is a changing table in the men's room. The prices are a little elevated, but could be worse. In the end, it's a fueling station for your stomach. It will get the job done, but if you can get lunch elsewhere, I'd recommend doing that.

The restaurant is in the Mimslyn Inn and is easy to find it once inside. Since we were having an early dinner, there was only one couple in the place. Our server seated and greeted our party of six. We sat at a huge table that could accommodate twelve. She arranged things so we were seated at one end. She took our drink orders. We all had soft drinks. I was pleased to see that they had sweet iced tea. Along with our drinks, we were given a bread basket and some butter with chives in it. The bread was fresh and the butter added nice flavor. For my main course, I got "butternut squash ravioli and lobster". This was a great dish. It consists of: "Butternut squash and parmesan ravioli with sauteed lobster and asparagus in a tarragon cream sauce". The delicate flavor of the butternut squash came through clearly. While the parmesan barely registered, that was fine with me. The tarragon cream sauce had great flavor yet it didn't overpower the components of the dish. The lobster portion was generous. Three in our party got the "Country Ham BLT". It consists of: "Fried salt cured Virginia ham, fried green tomatoes, crisp lettuce, pimento cheese on grilled rye served with a pickle and seasoned waffle fries". Those who had this sandwich raved about its flavor and its uniqueness. More than once they said how much they liked it. Two got the "Mimslyn burger" which consists of: "6 oz. local Burners Farm ground beef burger, lettuce, tomato, thick sliced red onions on a toasted brioche roll served with a pickle and seasoned waffle fries". One could add cheese for no extra cost and had a choice of different cheeses. Two added American cheese to theirs while one chose no cheese. One decided he didn't want fries and the server told him he could substitute a veggie from the selection in stock. He chose collard greens as he never had them before and wanted to try them. Everybody liked their burgers and fries. The one who got the collard greens didn't like them. To me, they looked bland and my guess is that was why he didn't like them. We didn't have dessert even though the offerings were tempting. I had hoped to post more photos but one of our grandsons offered to take photos of the sandwich, burger and collard greens...but...they didn't come out. The dining room has that southern charm to it.
