Service Terrible! We came in asked for table for 4; it would be an1.15 hour wait. A few minutes later we changed to a 2 person and the lady said we just got a 2 topper that just got up, let us get the table cleared and we will call you. Needless to say, a few minutes later, a couple walks in put their name on the list and sits at a 2 topper. I then ask the ladies, and they give me a story, oh we have 2 people in front of you; it will be 20 to 30 minutes. I told her that's not what was told to me... this is the sorriest excuse of a restaurant. We traveled to Indianapolis to see Dear Evan Hansen, and my party had reserved us a table at Harry and Izzy's months in advance. They promised the rest of us that it was a great place to stop, as it shared a Kitchen with St.Elmo's, but they didn't require a dress code like their sister location. The restaurant didn't disappoint. The food, staff and overall atmosphere was one to remember. I ordered a steak, and it was one of the best I've ever had, the beef was cooked to perfection with an excellent flavor which lingered for long after our stay. The mashed potatoes were a pleasant surprise as well, creamy, soft, and perfect with the aforementioned steak. We also shared their classic pudding for a dessert, which was just as good. It resembled a cinnamon roll with ice-cream and a whipped topping. My only warning, would be that those who are not used to scotch may be intimidated by the drink that they pour over the top. read more

Managed to book a same day reservation and got seated super quickly. All the staff members were super friendly and and attentive/helpful. Our server (I forgot her name) but she was on point with the drink recommendations!!! I love fruity drinks that pack a punch and she did not disappoint. I love pizza and I've never tried a pizza that tastes like this one. Super flavorful, every ingredient and sauce harmonized fabulous together. They don't skimp on the prime rib and toppings! Shrimp Cocktail: 5/5 They were not fucking around when they said the horseradish in the dish would make you cry/ blow up your sinuses! I've never tried a shrimp cocktail this spicy and if you love spices like wasabi and horseradish, this is definitely a must try. Filet mignon Sliders: 5/5 yes they're small and only come in 2 but the meat was so tender and juicy These sliders were so tasty especially with the sauce on the side. Slab Bacon: 4.5/5 Super yummy but it was a little TOO sweet. The maple was definitely over powering. It tasted so good with the corn bread but I couldn't really eat it alone. The cornbread was probably the star for my friend and I. It's definitely one of the best corn breads I've ever tried. Pan seared scallops: 3/5 The dish was cohesive and well thought out but the scallops I had were too salty. They were cooked well and tasted delicious with the vegetables that came with it but the overly salty scallops were just too much. Izzy Style New York Strip: 3/5 The cracked pepper coating was too much and made the steak a bit too salty. Other than that the steak was super tender. Who doesn't like Harry and Izzy's?! We've been many times to all the different locations, but today we took a huge risk and took our kids. Our waiter was great with them. And who knew- they have a kids menu!! It's reasonably priced (mostly between $6-10) with a good range of options- chicken fingers, steak, fish and chips, sliders, pizza, macaroni... my kids picked chicken fingers with fries and sliders with green beans. Huge success. They also have milk, which is a win. My husband and I both had a steakburger with fries, which were cooked to our preference. I recommend asking for extra spicy mayo on the side... it has a great horseradish flavor without being truly spicy (totally unlike the famous cocktail sauce). The kids wrapped everything up with a brownie a la mode. I also really enjoyed the less expensive of the two by-the-glass Chardonnay options- light and buttery. Typically, I'd come here for their shrimp cocktail. It's legendary, with a uniquely spicy cocktail sauce that is heavy on horseradish. Today, I ordered the meatloaf, which comes with redskin mashed potatoes. Boring, right? Not so! They put beef, pork, and veal in their meatloaf. Such a great spot! My husband and I went here for our anniversary last night! Bradley was our waiter he was so sweet, funny, & knowledgeable about the menu and history of the restaurant! I recently went with a group of 15 people and our server was fantastic. She was very friendly and engaged in conversation well. The service got slow at some parts but it is at not fault of anyone- they had multiple large parties and the bar seating was full. All our food came out as ordered and we received it in a timely manner. I went during Devour Indy. The people were nice and I felt welcomed. The restaurant had a nice temperature. It was not freezing cold like a lot of restaurants I have been to. Our server was very nice. For my starter, I picked the St. Elmo shrimp cocktail. That was a mistake. I'm not going to say it was gross, but I did not realize the shrimp cocktail sauce is spicy. The shrimp was also buried in the sauce. The shrimp tasted nice and fresh, but that sauce......my goodness. The heat spread from my mouth all the way to the sides of my face and I was afraid to open my mouth and start coughing everywhere. When our server came to check on us, she told us the sauce is basically loaded with horseradish. At least I know I hate horseradish now. My sister got the calimari. It was delicious. Nothing more to say about that. My entrée was the fresh Atlantic cod. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't amazing either. The fish was incredibly tender and fresh, but to me, it was a bit salty. It didn't taste like straight salt, but that element was there. Now, this could have been from the fact that my tastebuds were wrecked by the horseradish. This we'll never know. I traded my green beans for the mash potatoes. It was good and not over seasoned at all, and I actually ate the mash potatoes with my cod to balance out with that saltiness and it paired well together. My drink was good. Not too sweet and also tasted fresh. It was called Liquid Love Affair. I must say though it was not "$12 drink" good. Afterwards we shared a slice of cheesecake. It was, again, good not great. It was lighter and not too sweet than other cheesecakes I've had on the past, so that was nice after a full meal. I must say the star of the night were the biscuits. We had to ask for them, but that's not a big deal. The were buttery, had flavor, and were not dry. I'm not going to lie, I would come back for the biscuits and the drink on their own. Overall it was good, not great. I may visit again in the future, but if not, I won't be upset about it. Solid place for lunch if you want to impress friends/clients. It's a little pricey to come here for lunch every day though. Sandwiches are about $14 and comes with fries. They have a daily lunch special for $20 which gives you 1/2 sandwich and your choice of any 2 appetizers/salads/desserts. The most popular lunch item is the prime rib sandwich, for good reason. At its heart, Harry & Izzy's is a steakhouse (same owner as St. Elmo's), so they knew their reputation was at stake (no pun intended) when they put prime rib on the menu. Fortunately, they do it well. Whenever a restaurant offers prime rib, I order it (because I love it and it is so rarely seen on menus). It came out sliced evenly, on the bias, and was a nice medium-rare. The horseradish sauce and au just complemented the fattiness of the steak very well. If you're familiar at all with St. Elmo's, you've heard about the shrimp cocktail. Harry & Izzy's smartly carried it over to its menu as most diners that I saw had ordered it. It's served in a dish, pre-peeled and swimming in the famous cocktail sauce which is supposed to make smoke come out of your ears. Well when your related to St. Elmo's and Dunaway's you've got to prove your a part of the family and Harry and Izzy's does. You have a great selection of decently priced lunch options, some moderately priced dinner options, amazing (but pricey) steak and seafood options and yes the infamous shrimp cocktails!! They have an amazing wine selection and a superb bar tending staff. The only problem I have had with this downtown location is that they sometimes suffer in service when they get busy. I think they were understaffed at the time we were there, or may have just been the outdoor areas or maybe because we were down there for motoGP weekend wearing leather chaps but I won't let that keep me from coming back. I've always heard about St Elmo's cousin (Brother? Uncle?), Harry & Izzy's but went for the first time this week for business. For how "art deco" their brand/logo is, I was pretty surprised by the lack of Art Deco design features within the restaurant itself. I was actually surprised by the lack of design in general, but it functions and the circular central bar is nice and works well. The shrimp cocktail is obviously a must have. Its phenomenal and will light your face on fire in the best way possible. I had the 8oz filet mignon medium rare for my entree and it was perfect. The flavor was great and was enhanced further with their onion, mushroom and butter concoction (I told them to surprise me). The side of mashed red potatoes was excellent as well. We all ordered various sliders on a recommendation from someone who had been there before. Let me just say, the sliders, especially the filet ones, are fantastic and you must try them. The filet sliders are cooked to your preferred temp and will be better than any sliders you've ever had. I also sampled the crispy chicken sliders, and while they were quite good, they couldn't compare to the filet ones. Also, request the bread prior to your meal. I think our server was a little new because her routine seemed a little scripted with some missed lines, haha We started with calamari and the shrimp cocktail. Both were great. Two at the table had a filet, one other had salmon and I had a ribeye. I read through some of the other reviews before I wrote this and most of the less than 3 reviews all seemed to include a ribeye. There was a little gristle on my steak but it was a ribeye...Where do you expect the flavor to come from?? Another guy wrote something about there not being enough seasoning. A good steak shouldn't need much seasoning. If you like the taste of seasoning, order chicken and have them season it up. My ribeye was cooked a perfect medium rare and the creme spinach side was great. Overall, I like this more than Elmo's. Harry and Izzy's is a little more casual and I'm not a fan of having 3 guys in tuxedos watching my every move as I eat to make sure my water doesn't go below half full. Everyone that I spoke to was so thoughtful and caring. We flew from Las Vegas to your fine city to take care of the arrangements for the family member. Classic and solid steakhouse. However, I wouldn't give them flying colors. The Steak temperature was a bit on the cold side when served. The Filet Mignon was served under cooked at first, so we complained. They took it back to cook it some more, but they ended up burning it. When you pay a pretty penny for a steak in a place like this, you expect it to be right the first time. Nothing more annoying in a steakhouse than not having your steak done right the first time. Also, the server was a bit snappy and ended up spilling the water on the table and me. She repeatedly over-spilled water every time she refilled our cups, it was rather odd!
