I arrived for an important meeting with two guests for lunch at noon on June 4th. We simply wanted a light lunch. We ordered sliders , one order of fries a turkey sandwich and three small shrimp cocktail, coffee and water, and one order of potato chips. The service was discombobulated from the start. They couldn't manage the drink order, they delivered 1/2 the order and then forgot about us. They delivered two orders of fries. When we mentioned the potato chips, the waitress apologized and said she'd be right back with the chips. By the time one of had to leave the cold chips were delivered. No apologies. No time or desire at this point to eat just the chips. The $$$$ is way over the value of the meal and service. I get better service at Steak and shake. Swung by here for lunch with a few co-workers a couple weeks back. The lunch portions were healthy and very good. I wounded up getting a BBQ chicken pizza.. Whew, it was GOOD! It was cooked very well on thin crust and the flavor was amazing.. I like spice so I wouldn't have minded a bit more spice. What a great place for a steak! This was a great recommendation and wonderful location for a great meal. When you start out, make sure you try the shrimp cocktail. It will take your breathe away. The guys ordered Manhattans. The girls ordered wine & my favorite: the French 75. They always get this right. We introduced them to the shrimp cocktail, of course. Working across the street, I've made a few lunch trips to Harry and Izzy's. It's a great place to entertain customers or go for a holiday party, but the prices are a bit on the high side for your everyday lunch. On my most recent visit, I partook in the 3 course fixed price menu. $20 got me a 3 piece shrimp cocktail, a salad, 2 filet sliders, and a cup of fire roasted vegetable soup. The highlight of the meal was the shrimp cocktail, as it is the same one you get at St. Elmo's. The sliders were good, and probably the best option, but I don't understand why you would want to waste a perfectly good filet and put it on a bun. I ended eating them as 2 small filets. They were cooked perfectly medium rare. The fire roasted vegetable soup was SPICY. I didn't anticipate it, but it was a lingering heat. Service is ok at lunch, but it is ultimately the reason I'm only awarding H&I 4 stars. For the prices you pay at H&I, I expect a true top notch level of service. I'm sure I'll be back when I need to entertain customers for lunch, but you won't catch me spending my own dollars here. At least not for lunch. read more

While the menu here is slightly different from sister restaurant St. Elmo I would highly recommend the atmosphere of Harry and Izzy's. There is still the high quality menu items but it's a little more casual and relaxed environment. Service is top notch as well! read more

This was my first introduction to the St. Elmo/Harry and Izzy restaurants. It was very good. I visited here when I first moved to Indy to try this 60 day dry-aged steak and this shrimp cocktail that I heard so much about from coworkers. Though it wasn't the best steak I've had, it was very unique. The dry age really gives depth to the cut and gives a bit of a cheese kike flavor. And the shrimp cocktail blew my mind, I wished it was more than 5 shrimp in it, but it was worth it. I recommend Harry and Izzys for great food and service. read more

I haven't written a Yelp review in so long. Shame on me! Anyways, my son's dad suggested we go here for lunch but I was like, "that's going to cost an arm and a leg!" And.....I lost the argument so we headed in. Hostess was super friendly...even though we came in at the same time a group of regulars was exiting, she made her way to me to get us seated promptly. Water brought straight to the table. My two year old got a children's menu and wiki stix! Their lunch menu is wonderfully priced for the quality of food. And the kids menu....don't get me started. Chicken strips and fresh fruit was $5!!!! Amazing!!! I ordered a prime rib sandwich that was of course perfectly tender. And my son's dad ordered scallops and onion rings that were really yummy. Scallops were sweet and browned perfectly (Gordon Ramsay would be proud)(who has watched Hell's Kitchen? Lol). Our waiter who is used to Im sure getting $300 tables at night time gave us the same level of service for our $50 check. He was great! Overall, lunch time here is a must. This was a solid 3-star for me last night. We came in around 10:30 on a Friday, so you'd think things would still be pretty lively for a downtown in a big city, but it was fairly slow here. I had a couple of beers & the small number of beers on tap was a little disappointing. I asked for a local IPA and our server seemed a little fazed. She offered a Bloomington beer in a bottle, but that was it. I was surprised that there wasn't a beer list on the table! I ordered the famous shrimp cocktail and it lived up to the billing. Crazy-horseradishy (that's a phrase, right?) and it really was an experience. I'd like to say that I have checked that off my bucket list and I won't do it again, but it was actually really good. I'm in Indy 2 or 3 nights every year, so I can imagine I'll be back for it. I also had a filet slider. It was $5, but really good. The shrimp was $16, but I get it. All in all, it was expensive, but fine. The service...not so much. When we came in, no one was there to seat us. After we ordered, our server (which was also tending bar) disappeared. It seemed like they were either understaffed or apathetic. Regardless, if I come back, it would be for the food. The service and beer was disappointing. read more

Harry and Izzy's is sister to the famous St. Elmo steakhouse. Much of the menu is shared with the same fabulous steaks, etc. plus some other good fare. If you like shrimp cocktails, the famous St. Elmo version is a must. The sauce is HOT horseradish, so don't say you weren't warned. It'll clean your sinuses out better than surgery!! If you're a steak lover, go with the ribeye....but no baked potato here, potato pancakes instead, delish. The salmon is good too, though it seems wrong not to have steak. Great wine selection, though no Boones Farm Kountry Kwencher :).----- You'll likely be too full for dessert, but if not the selection is great and the chefs special dessert is always amazing. The ambiance is fantastic, with a 'retro' feel, great service and reasonable prices, one of the best places in downtown Indy for any type of dining situation. read more

Everything I ordered was exactly what I wanted, but twisted to be even better than I have ever had. My waitress explained the training the chef goes through before being employed here, and it is easy to tell that everything is homemade. Unfortunately our second experience went bad. Flew in to see a game and celebrate friends birthday. Last month when we flew in, the service and food was great, maybe because we sat at bar. This time, Food was to our table 40 minutes after ordering. They had a large party so I guess we weren't priority. Once food got to us, I was cold and they took back. It felt as if it just sat there in kitchen. One positive note, the manger and waiter realized all this and took most of good off bill. I had the luncheon 10 oz. ribeye steak. It was the worst ribeye I have ever had. It had no taste. There was no seasoning, even salt or pepper, and obviously not marinated. It was full of gristle. One of our longtime favorite, solid, never-lets-us-down places. Upscale interiors, but you feel comfortable eating there dressed up or down. Service is impeccable. Their menu would please anyone: amazing steaks & seafood, but also burgers and pizza (rich, prime-rib pizza!) And of course their famous shrimp cocktail; have to order that. This summer we have been getting their beef filet sliders & shrimp cocktail to-go, then we take it home and add a salad and we have quite a happy family at that point!! Sliders are normally $6 each but if you order 15 they are $5 ea. (15/$75). Sounds like a lot but it is really great food for a memorable meal. Harry & Izzy's is consistently high quality and we trust them and their food. Must tried their fried ravioli too! And their scallops. And their brownies (seriously the best you've ever tried!). Scallops were huge flavorful and so fresh. 14 oz ribeye perfectly medium and marbled with creamy smooth redskin mashed potatoes and delicious bernaise sauce. Dependable delicious. Good food all around and everyone can usually find something they like here. We choose Harry & Izzy's for business dinners and have not been disappointed. Steaks- good. Seafood- good. Salads- good. Dessert - good. Steaks are usually done your preferred temperature and sides are enough to share with 1 other person so order more if you are hungry. The garbage salad is a favorite - it use to have heart of palm but doesn't anymore. We ordered both the brownie dessert and bread pudding. The brownie was delicious and would have been the fave if we didn't order the bread pudding. Holy bread pudding- they drizzle woodford reserve on it at your table. Let me tell you- it does NOT suck. Enjoy the dinner with friends that I hadn't seen in a while. The atmosphere is vibrant and classy. The wait staff went out of their way to make sure that we enjoyed our meal, even to the point of allowing us to trade sauces on the meatball appetizer to avoid tomatoes for one of the individuals in our party. The food was fantastic! The bread pudding dessert is over-the-top delicious and plenty for four people. I will definitely eat here again next time I am in Indianapolis. I was in town for the American Coatings Show and had to go Harry and Izzy's. This restaurant shares a kitchen with the iconic Saint Elmo's steakhouse so you are basically getting the same food prepared by the same people. To be honest, the steak here is good but not over the top incredible. You can tell it is cared for and dry aged which is always a plus. What I truly love is the famous shrimp cocktail. The shrimp themselves are awesome but it's really the cocktail sauce that takes the cake. It is some of the most horseradish laden sauce I have ever had. I LOVE IT. It instantly brings tears to your eyes and changes your body temperature slightly for a few moments. If you have never had it be prepared, I have seen some people buckle under its intensity. I will always go back to Harry and Izzy's when I am in Indy. read more
