The sushi was quite fresh and it was very easy to order takeout on the phone about 30 minutes before hand. When we stepped in the restaurant there were about 8 servers and one customer eating. No one helped us for about a minute and all of the servers were just talking and joking around with themselves even after seeing us. We were the only ones that needed to be helped and it was not appropriate for the servers to act like this. To be fair: I have ordered sushi from Haruki East and the food has been wonderful. This is specifically regarding my most recent order. I ordered Pad Thai and Udon Noodle with vegetables. I asked for extra veggies and I clarified I would be ok to pay more for the extra veggies. Unfortunately, due the pandemic I had to order as take out. When I came home and opened my order there were NO extra vegetable in my food, in fact, sadly there were not much veggies in my food at all. However, I was charged $2 extra per dish. Watching our spider roll just sit there. On a not busy Saturday afternoon. Top of the wasabi on the plate was actually browned, like from being left out. Our first time here after recommendations and we will not be back. Not only did we notice a not so clean place and it did smell like fish when you entered. I'm a huge fan of The original Haruki's location in Cranston and I just so happened to be in the area and was craving sushi! Because it's in Wayland square, parking is pretty much the pay meters so I did find a spot right in front of the restaurant and since I was ordering take out I decided I would just use the passport app to pay for the parking when I ordered my food. Unfortunately AT&T service is pretty bad in that area and I tried to connect to the guest WiFi but the server didn't recall the password and had to go and check. Paranoid that a meter maid would get to my car in all this I was able to find a couple of quarters in my car and take care of business the old school way. Harukis should just make that WiFi for guests open to the public as I imagine I'll likely go through the same experience. As for the food, it was good! I did find it to be a bit pricier than the other location for the same stuff I get. Even though I see a lot of reviews complaining about this and that, I believe this to be 1 of the 2 most authentic Japanese restaurants that serve sushi in Providence. Even though none of the sushi chefs are Japanese, they have been well trained by their predecessor Sushi Chef Cardin Lau and maybe even the legendary Sushi Chef Haruki Kibe himself! I often spot the legend eating at the counter and subtly enjoying the ambience and the fruits of his kingdom. Service: efficient, quick and accommodating Food: the fish for sushi is fresh, the rice is often well seasoned, and the sushi chef at the far end of the counter underneath the television really knows how to put a positive spin to traditional sushi. While I still go to and order from Haruki more than any other sushi place in town, things have gone a bit downhill and I feel it's time for an update. In all honesty, the fish can be hit-or-miss. I tend to get whatever is the most fresh -- nothing mixed with spicy sauce! - and stick with nigiri. I love their miso soup and the dressing on their house salads, although the quality of the produce is, again, hit-or-miss. The space itself could use an update; even a fresh coat of paint and some new tables would be a huge improvement. I do like the long, open sushi bar but I wish they would do something about the front room, as it reeks of fish when you first walk in which is hardly appetizing for a sushi restaurant. The staff is inconsistent. The last time we went, most of our order was wrong or confused with on of the few other table there during lunchtime. It's a far cry from what we're used to experiencing as we've come here for years. I do love you, Haruki, but it seems you've been resting on your laurels. We've always enjoyed this place! Sushi is hands down the best! Ingredients are always fresh and delicious! Our favorite roll by far is their spicy scallop! We also enjoyed their vegetable pad Thai, some edamame and their coconut shrimp. First time trying their pad Thai and it was worth trying. There is only one word that comes to mind when I think of the sushi at Haruki East: YUM! We arrived on a rainy Tuesday evening with thoughts of tuna and Unagi rolls dancing in our heads. We settled in at our cozy table for two and enjoyed the warm and delightfully friendly atmosphere. I enjoyed sipping on my 22oz Sapporo and watching the chefs making the sushi behind the bar. We ended up ordering the sushi deluxe combo platter and an order of the eel rolls (my favorite). The platter came with a bowl of some very delicious Miso Soup. The sushi was all very fresh and flavorful. Our server was friendly and provided us with efficient service throughout the evening. The prices were about average for a sushi joint and pretty decent for the quality that you get at Haruki. I was beyond happy to finally try this place out and am excited that it is right down the street from my apartment. read more

I have yet to be disappointed with anything I order at both places, I fig this location would be the same. (Especially for all the good reviews on Yelp). The bf and I ended up sharing one of the dinner sushi rolls, it was called the Katano. It was a beauty for sure and was rather filling for 1 order. The sauce they more than generously drizzled on the sushi with was sooo delectable. Seriously, the Katano was anything but plain. (I posted a pic up, you'll catch my drift). It was about $16-17 dollars for the whole roll. The service there was really prompt and friendly. The waitress we had seemed to know her stuff. The only questionable concern I had was why it was so difficult to split the order we had. We wanted to pay with 2 separate cards, in addition there was a to-go order I had requested. In the end we just split everything up equally. This has always been something I pondered about at restaurants, why it's so difficult to do partial/split payment... In any case not a big deal really, just curiosity. Not gonna stop me from coming back here because the food/service overall was a positive one. I finally experienced east coast sushi. I had been holding out... 6 very long months I made it, until tonight. It was either because I was afraid the sushi in Providence wouldn't compare to that of LA or that once I got a taste, I wouldn't be able to stop myself. I hadn't had a strong craving, now that I've tried Haruki East, that may change. It was worth the wait... Two things we had I must suggest: the Tropicana and Die Hard rolls. Tropicana is salmon and mango and three types of salmon roe, paired with kiwi and spicy mayo. This was a roll I had never dreamed of before, but believe I will dream of tonight... The Die Hard was unusual, too...this was yellow tail with jalapeno and cilantro. Both were fresh and delicious! We also had the miso soup and a side salad with yummy ginger dressing and tried a variety of sushi - albacore, tuna and salmon which all melted in our mouths. It was a little pricey, but worth it. Wow, what a let down. What happened, Haruki? Fish was not fresh, my hamachi roll that was seriously too fishy (when hamachi tastes like mackerel, there's a serious issue), and we didn't even have wasabi on our plate. We did not get plates even though we were sharing a salad, our server was nowhere to be found throughout the dinner I had to keep getting up to find anyone to help get us that wasabi. Even the wasabi I can say was an honest mistake, but to not have wasabi on two different plates of sushi, and also not taste your fish for freshness before serving? I expect much more from Haruki, a restaurant that I counted on for better sushi for four years now. Then I got up to get our check because we were left alone for 30 mins after we finished our rolls, and they stared me down rudely and asked me a whole bunch of questions instead of helping me get my check completed. I wrote my last review for Haruki over a year ago and it's high time I update it. Last night my hubby and I went to Haruki for the first time in in few months. In my previous review I said we used to go once a week but we've cut down on our eating out habits so we haven't been in a while but everything was perfect, just as expected. Here are so new and additional things that changed my review from 4 stars to 5: 1. Amanda, Amanda, Amanda. She's not on the menu, but she is a part of the wait staff who (even though she was not our server) came over to our table last night, introduced herself and told me that she had read my review on Yelp and she told me she recognized us and that she felt bad that we thought otherwise. Well, as they say in the south, "Bless her heart!" My husband and I were so impressed with her. She is a wonderful server at Haruki and next time we (or you) go to Haruki, ask for her so you can leave her big tips. She deserves it! 2. I forgot to mention in my last review the other staple we get when we go to Haruki: CALAMARI The calamari at Haruki is so dang good! It's served with this cucumber, cilantro green something sauce that is heavenly, a must try! 3. Last night we ventured out and tried something new from the appetizer menu since it had been a while since we were in and it will also be a staple when we go: Beef Tataki. Holy smokes was this good. Came here for lunch while visiting a friend in RI. I was in the mood for sushi and wanted to find a place with good sushi and good lunch specials. I found my match at haruki East. Parking at Haruki East is easy as there is ample Street parking. The restaurant itself has three doors, of which only one is open - make sure to find the right one. Our host was super friendly and gave us the choice of booth or table. Service was prompt and we were quickly greeted by our server who brought us ice water and offered up menus and any additional drinks. We ordered the cajun tuna bento box, sashimi appetizer and an eel roll... Thought we kept a menu, this proved to be more than enough. The soup which came with the bento box was delivered almost immediately. The remainder of the items took about 20 minutes, which was no problem for us as we had nowhere to be but could be irritating should you be stopping by on a short lunch break. The tuna bento box was on point . Lightly seared tuna with cajun seasoning, rice, shrimp Shumai (lightly steamed and perfect for lunch) green beans, some melon and orange. Perfect. The eel was rich, warm and melt in your mouth - exactly as it should be. The sashimi appetizer (which came out with everything else) was crisp. The salmon was deliciously fatty, the tuna had a great texture and taste and the whitefish had picked up the taste of the lemon wedge on which it was placed. The mix of our three dished was perfect and made for a delightful lunch break. Even better, the total for two people came out to be $26.. Not too shabby. read more
