The ambience is very nice but the menu needs some work. The menu consists of a couple appetizers, salads, and Panini's. What about actual meals in the $15-$20 price range? That said, they were very accommodating when I wanted to create my own dish. For example, I added chicken and lettuce to the caprese salad. Lovely place near the Oregon Shakespeare Festival campus in Ashland. Easy to make a reservation on line. The hostess was very welcoming as was the server. Not too noisy even though it was pretty full. My wife and I were easily able to talk in a normal tone and volume. We had drinks and they were very good. I had the Speak Easy and loved it. We started with Shrimp and Polenta. Delicious. My wife had the house salad and clam chowder. I usually would not rave about a house salad but it was delicious and the chowder, I thought, was perfect. Creamy but not overly rich. Flavor came from the clams and herbs and was complimented by the cream and butter, but not overwhelmed. I had fish and chips and again the chips were, believe it or not, quite special in there crispy skin and soft perfectly cooked center. Piping hot. The fish was equally well cooked. We are fairly regular in attending HARVEY'S for Pre theatre dinners. With the change in the restaurant and theatre scene - and no show/performance we opted for dinner special to go on Friday night. We were greeted by a Becca and had efficient border placement, safe clean waiting area and a quick service dinner to go, The special was fresh halibut and the salt & pepper fries. We dashed home and enjoyed every bite. Very good for a take out. We'll continue to support HARVEY'S for take-away dinners until We can be there for a pre theatre dinner. We split the salmon cakes from the appetizer menus. They were outstanding. We followed that with the blue cheese salad with candied pecans. Very good though a bit too sweet for me. Finally we split the fish and chips. Because the first two items were so flavorful, the fish and chips fell flat and dull. No spice. My wife had a very good alcohol beverage. The blood orange margarita. I stuck with beer. Overall very good. Good service. Prices were probably average for Ashland. The look of the place is very appealing with exposed brick and dark woodwork. I love the new outdoor seating at Harvey's! I went there last night with a few friends, we got a pound of clams to share with a bottle of Quady Rosė. I also got the Rogue Blue Salad, which is my favorite. Rogue Creamery blue cheese, candied pecans, and dried cranberries. Leanna was our server, she was very knowledgeable and probably the sweetest person you'll ever meet. But I've had great service with all of their staff. Highly recommended! read more

I know this is covid time but we chanced eating inside. They are extremely careful about the situation. Our dinner and the service were both outstanding!!! Chef Ted did such a great job with the short ribs and my husband LOVED the halibut!! Server Leanna was just darling. We all wore our masks; we only removed ours to eat. After an unsuccessful attempt for appetizers and cocktails at a nearby restaurant, Linda and I ended up here. It was very busy and noisy. There was space for us to sit at the bar. Our drink and appetizer order was quickly taken, and we relaxed. My Bulleuit rye Manhattan was great and so was Linda's scotch. We shared chips N dip, a creamy artichoke dip served with pita chips. I could taste, and see, the artichoke and it was creamy. I enjoyed these treats a lot; however, I am only giving them 3 stars for now. It is hard to review a restaurant on just one appetizer . Harvey's Place is located in the space formally occupied by Chateulein. Judging by some other recent closures and new reopenings around town, Ashland seems to be in the middle of a generational hand-off as long time previous owners have opted to retire or otherwise move on. I never dined at Chateulein in its day, but I hope it wasn't as dark as I found Harvey's. It's rare when it take that much time for my eyes to adjust and that Gayle and I purposely sought out a table in the back room that had more light. We got here on the early side of pre-show, and had good seating options before the place filled up. We had a nice appetizer-centric meal here, which is what a theater week of occasional big meals will do for you. That included chicken wings, tots (!) and a generous crab salad. Service was also friendly, fast, and enjoyable. read more

The atmosphere is cool, calm, and relaxed- gorgeous dark woods in the bar area. A classic uptown bar with great food and drinks. I loved the Dungeness crab salad with mango and avocado. We were looking for a spot to eat a nice meal at the bar and watch the Warriors basketball game. I had the salmon with polenta which was delicious. My husband had a perfectly seasoned meatloaf with mashed potatoes, of which he ate every bite. Our bartender/server named Tess was a delight. She had a drink special called a cucumber cooler that was so yummy!! We'll return to Harvey's the next time we visit Ashland. Loved it!! read more

Wow. Friendly greeting and warm atmosphere. We chose to sit at bar for dinner. Shared the mac n cheese appetizer and it was delish. Not heavy, but full of flavor. I tried two varieties from a local winery and my hubby was pleased to see a cider on tap. Dinner was nothing short of excellent. We had a rib eye and tomato soup. We shared the blackberry cobbler and couldn't believe there wasn't a line out the door. So good! Highly recommend this place. In no way worth the money. Food sucked, service was nothing to write home about. They must have newbie cooks in the kitchen because a teenager could make the meal I paid $118 for. I got the filet minion topped with sautéed mushrooms and red wine sauce. Sounds awesome right? Nope. The "sauce" was really just a packet of brown gravy that they must have put red wine in. There was LITERALLY 3 mushrooms slices on my steak. The garlic mashed potatoes are obviously powdered. The blood orange margarita tasted like a sour patch kid in lime soda... so gross. I had been wanting to try this place out for the last 3 years. After examining the menu posted on the outside wall of the building, *AND* finally getting nudged by one of my dine-out pals, we decided to try a "new" spot for a change. Glad we did. Upon entering, we were graciously greeted by a young hostess who gave us several seating options of our choosing. They weren't too busy for a Tuesday evening at 5:45. Once seated, we ordered some delicious custom drinks from the bar (the bartender was our server, too). Once we got settled, we didn't feel too rushed and the pleasant, quiet atmosphere was accommodating. It was a combination of old wood feel, with a touch of contemporary and a little bistro. We ordered a crab cake appetizer, which we both thought was very fishy tasting. Very little crab flavor, but edible. It was okay to eat, but I wouldn't order it again. This was really the only lacking part of our experience. On a side note, I typically don't review the restrooms. However, in this case... I needed to partake during our stay. The men's room was super clean. It had a pleasant aroma of floral, mixed with cinnamon and vanilla. I don't know where the smell was coming from, but you would never know you were in a restroom except for the amenities therein. ;-) Later on, we felt a little ignored, but then realized the place filled up suddenly. They were just short staffed. They got another person on the floor and that cured the situation. For a Tuesday, I was a little shocked they were so busy, but happy to see the business is coming in. Once our entrees arrived, we were in heaven. We ordered the Halibut steak special. It was beyond amazing! Very fresh, lightly seasoned and low-temp pan-fried in butter and herbs. Alongside was a butter-cream polenta and grilled seasonal vegetables. It was farm to table and you could tell. Just a wonderful experience. After another round of drinks during our meal, we couldn't decide on dessert. Everything looked wonderful on the menu, but neither of us could eat anymore. Therefore, we ordered a dessert drink. The Spanish Coffee here is perfect as a dessert for the full stomach. Definitely adding Harvey's to my "go-to" list! read more

Unexpectedly wonderful. Calm, classy, delicious, and the BEST service. We popped on a super tight time budget right after opening at 5pm saying we needed to be at a preface at 5:30. The waitress' eyes got super big but we had an amazingly delicious dinner and were out the door at 5:25! Over-the-top amazing service, we didn't think it was possible. I'm still not sure how the kitchen made it happen, but we had perfect salmon, sauteed spinach, and delicious polenta. I've never been a fan of polenta, but with the spinach and salmon it was perfect. Can't wait to come back here when I have enough time to enjoy one of the amazing looking cocktails on the board and enjoy a leisurely meal! read more

At least a 1/4 of the sandwich was fat. We also tried the meatloaf. It was overworked and remind me of stuff they gave us at school. The seasoning was not balanced and bland. Although the quality of the food was exceptional, the service was embarrassing. We waited for approximately 45 minutes, only to be told that our order never went in. With many apologies, and an offer of free dessert, we were perfectly amiable. But after a fine meal, and IN THE MIDDLE of ordering dessert, the waitress said "I'm only giving you one free dessert." Okay. We already had our hearts set on two. So we ordered both. She later apologized for her miscommunication. Still, we only got one free dessert. It would've meant the difference between our returning, and another star or two in this review, had the restaurant made things right with us -- had they simply sacrificed one more $8 or $9 dessert that was no real investment on their part. They could clearly afford this. Instead, we got more "I'm sorry for that" as we departed. We won't return. Hospitality is more important than quality of food. When you mess up on a patron's order, you should fairly compensate them. When you promise free dessert for messing up, you should follow through. Simple, basic courtesy. No amount of "sorry" substitutes for being dismissive and deceptive. But it does assure they won't return. read more

Walked in during the opening week but had to leave. The noise level was so obnoxious that even after changing table three times could not find a spot in the room where we could hear each other over the din. The room is all wood and brick, nothing to buffer the sound. A few well placed fabric panels in the ceiling and on the walls would have done the trick and perhaps they'll get the hint. read more

I really love what has been done with the remodel at Harvey's it truly looks great, all the hard work shows. Drinks were great and a nice selection of beer on tap. But when it comes down to it the food did not deliver at all.(w/ exception of oyster shooter) The portions were small and overpriced, I'm not looking for grotesque Olive Garden portions but for the price tag there should have been more. That being said we won't be back to eat until they do a menu revamp. Service staff was great though 5 stars to them. read more

I was excited to try Harvey's when it opened a few months ago. We were really pleased with the ribs appetizer the first time. The second time much less so. I've been there mostly for pre-Shakespeare drinks and appetizers. The first time we had the prawns and polenta we were amazed at how great it was. Last night it was awful! Three or four tiny shrimp over a mashed pile of polenta and smothered in an orange sauce. The inconsistency in their food is bewildering. You never know what you're going to get. It's a nice location and very good service but for a $13 appetizer, it would be nice to actually get something good. read more

I had the burger and my mother-in-law had the steak. The burger was very good and was a rather decent size. The steak was tasty too, but the portion size was small. Compared to other places in town, the quality of food to price is excellent. As for portion to price, it was small. The desert menu needs work. I will visit this place again. 4 stars right now only because the service was a tad slow. I think it's due to the place just opening. Also, I am unsure what setting the place is going for. There were flat screen TVs but none were turned on and the walls were pretty bare with no decor. read more

I'm not the type of person who writes reviews but while on vacation from California on my way to Canada with my wife we stopped by this beautiful little town and stumbled upon Harvey's Place. We gave it a shot and we were very impressed with the service and the food was amazing. Corona our waitress was delightful and took great care of us. We tried Harvey's Place expecting an above average meal. I had the Caprese Chicken with spinach, plum tomatoes, mozzarella cheese balls and polenta. The only obvious flavor came from the spinach. The rest was rather "blah." There was no flavor to the cheese, little to the tiny tomatoes or the chicken. Was this me--losing taste in my elder years or the food? The amber ale from the tap was served too cold to enjoy its flavor until it had time to warm up and by hen I had drunk most of it. read more
