The guys were impressed with the upscale feel of the restaurant, then the appetizers & salads. Then lunch-OMG- the variety from ribeye steaks to fried catfish, everything very fresh! I took my girlfriend here tonight for her birthday. I asked them to put flowers and a card on the table for her just for fun. they went way beyond and had a beautiful bouquet they let us take home for free, and they had all the employees sign a card for her saying happy birthday. they even gave us our dessert for free for her birthday. Harvey's offers a menu that covers all the bases, and prices are reasonable. The atmosphere is pleasant and it's decorated with some cool MSU memorabilia. The food is underwhelming, unfortunately. Service is generally courteous if a bit slow, For larger groups it's consistently bad. In my most visit recent several of us were charged more for a dish than what was listed on the menu. Instead of offering to fix what was clearly a mistake on the part of the restaurant, we got excuses and an offer to get the manager, which we declined; we had already been there almost two hours for what should have been a celebratory lunch. read more

We joined the wait list at 5:15 for a 6:00 slot. The app told us to arrive at 5:45 to check in for our table. When I arrived, I was told by the hostess & staff that it would be another 40 minute to an hour wait. After waiting 45 minutes, I was visibly upset that I was being told by one service that my table was ready and another that it would be another hour. This was for a party of 5 -- not a huge party -- and they were not accommodating or even apologetic for the issue. They basically told me not to use the app. If they know it is not accurate, why do you have it and tell people to use it? I have always enjoyed the food at Harvey's, but the customer service has gone down hill dramatically. Not pleased with this experience at all. Updated -- this is the LIVE WAIT as I type this review, right after I left the restaurant. I hadn't been to Harvey's for about 30 years, so I decided it was time to give it a try again. Harvey's is a very nice but a little charmless. I got the 16 ounce prime rib, and I was disappointed. It had a lot of fat, and it was tough and a little dry. The Mac and cheese was good though. My wife got the honey pepper salmon. She liked the salmon, but she didn't like the rice. My daughter liked her shrimp and grits, and her boyfriend was happy with his blackened catfish. Everything came with a lukewarm and dry Sister Schubert roll. The service was good in parts, but in others not so much. Apparently there is one server who just brings water around, but even with this system, I didn't get my water after I asked my server for a refill. Overall, I liked my meal, but for the price, I probably won't come here again for another 30 years. read more

We had brunch at Harvey's today and were very dissatisfied. Only three brunch items were available. I had the scrambled bowl and it was awful. Eggs were cold and hard and potatoes were also cold. Everything was obviously precooked and was not good. We won't be back until they change their brunch menu. The only two other items available were a crab cake Benedict and chicken and waffles. If I could give you 10 stars for our meal on Saturday, I would! I am from Mississippi, which has great tasting food because it is fried and full of fat. But it will also kill you if you continue to eat it throughout your life. It is incredibly hard to be a vegan in Mississippi, and you would think especially in the home of our land grant institution. I want to commend and thank Harvey's for providing menu options that support a vegan lifestyle and making them delicious as well. We had a great MorningStar burger option, along with a grilled vegetable kebab - no butter included. Both were well prepared, delicious, and appreciated! I also want to commend you for what I expect from my fellow Mississippians when I am back home. First, the young lady at the front desk rushed to open the door for me as I walked in. I don't remember the last time that happened to me anywhere, and that is what Mississippi hospitality is all about. Never underestimate how a kind gesture and a brilliant smile can impact your day. Second, Taylor H, our server was outstanding! She explained the vegan options available to perfection and was incredibly attentive throughout the meal. This includes a to go dessert order that I sent back for one of my daughter's friends at the Delta Gamma house. Taylor H, consider yourself hired for any sales or service job I ever have open. You deserve a raise! If you read what is important to me in my bio, you will see in this review that you nailed every one of them! I cannot commend you enough for being the pitta me of what is expected in a restaurant experience. But it was all downhill from there. We ordered broccoli bites appetizer. They are said to be seasoned with jalapeño and bacon but you can't taste either. All there is, is broccoli!! The salads arrived with a tiny bit of salad dressing. We requested more immediately but didn't get any till our food came and we asked again. My filet was cooked perfectly but was completely tasteless. When you eat somewhere sit down you expect it to take longer than a fast food restaurant but that is not the case at Harvey's. Bisiting MSU for my son to tour and had an early Sunday evening dinner. Very nice atmosphere. Sat at the bar in a booth. Waitstaff was excellent. Spinach dip appetizer was above average. Blackberry lemon cocktail was divine. You can order a small wedge salad for a side which was nice. Anywhere that has a wedge gets extra points in my book.
