Absolutely love coming to Hatchet Hall, it's always a delicious time whether its with a friend to catch up or a larger team dinner. There's a reason the cornbread is a favorite, it's full of flavor both sweet and savory, soft on the inside while being slightly crispy on the outside. Also love the rotating menu which brings in seasonal items. Every time I've visited I leave smiling and with a full belly. The drinks here are delicious as well and there's a good variety of options from cocktails to wines. Indoor seating gives off a darker moody ambiance whereas the outdoor seating feels more open and charming with their lights and plants. We ended up at Hatchet Hall on a whim and have been back multiple times since then. It is our favorite place to go with foodie friends - the dishes are all designed for sharing and never disappoint. Any place that has a specific Old Fashioned menu immediately has a special place in my heart - they are so creative with their cocktails and it's so fun to try different ones throughout the evening. Like everyone else has said, you have to try the corn bread. Everything is delicious. But you have to try the corn bread. Definitely make a reservation for peak times - it gets busy. Came here on a Friday night! A friend was able to make reservations on Resy which is always nice! The restaurant has an indoor and outdoor space. The indoor is definitely more of a bar vibe and at night the lighting was quite dim. However, still really cute! They have some street parking as well as a small valet lot which is always nice. Went to hatchet hall on a Monday night for dinner. Parking in the area is difficult if you don't want to valet. Took me about ten minutes of circling to find a metered spot. All three drinks were tasty and very different flavor profiles. The bartender was nice enough to let us send our bill to our table so we didn't have to close out before being seated. I apologize in advance as I did not clip many pictures of the place, and the reason why I visited this place was because it had lovely visual appeal. So in a way, I am describing the beauty of a rose and why I whiffed the beauty in red, without having a visual ready to help the reader understand what I described. It is not exactly the same, but imagine seeing Beauty and the Beast and only hearing about the rose and its wilting petals from Belle, the Beast, the narrator and Ms. Potts and never seeing the rose in cased in glass. Not the same impactful movie, not the same impactful Yelp. My friend Conrad and I were walking looking for our dinner spot and we passed this place. The immediate draw was its garden/green house like patio. It was decorated, with soft, strung lights, , promises in different shades of green, and tables everywhere. I wanted to eat amongst the fairies of this garden. Like, the place had quiet charm, it was a dinner by candlelight, yet no candles existed. In sum, the garden felt like a place where intimacy spread in every table, yet buzz was all around because the fairies that spread their quiet elegance worked like bees collecting honey. Of course, the fairies could not be seen, the work sound was the chatter of the crowd, but if one allows for beauty to be seen, beyond what can be seen, then this garden is one that holds magical capacity. Conrad and I entered the garden and spoke to the host. I explained like I had no reservations but still hoped to sit in the garden area. But before I agreed to the table, I wanted to see the menu. After I perused the menu, truly deciding if this place had bites that could mesh with my desire for a table in the lovely, I went up to the host, with an intention to declare that I did want a sit. Before I spoke, the host asked me, "Do you still want to eat here?" I know it me nitpicking, but I felt like the question could have been phrased through a better service language filter. For instance, "Did our menu reveal something that tempt you?" Or even more simpler, "Would you like to dine with us?" the way she asked it, seemed to imply that she felt like we would be put-off by the menu after reviewing? Which leads me to think of reasons as to why she would not think I would like to eat at this eatery after reading the menu? Did you think the prices were to expensive for me? Did you think that the menu and its items would be intimidating for me? The list continues exhaustively. Language in service matters, and I may be an over-thinker or someone who finds flaws that can be ignored or I can simply just chill, but, all of this could have been avoided if the host was more attentive to her words, especially where there is a standard language to be used with guests at eateries of this caliber. In constrast, when Conrad and I were leaving a different staff member asked, How did you all enjoy everything this evening? Yes, the standard that I was looking for. The host sat us, not in the greenhouse, not in the dining room, but in a mini garden in between the two. I saw our table, and it seemed to be an extra table were overflow guess were kept. I did not want sit in this lesser garden, and the host explained that there was no chance for us to sit amongst the fairies, but offered a shortwait for the dining room. After the short wait, we went to the main dining room, and this time we saw a table that was perfect. The dining room was also dimly lit, truly a romantic setting, and in a word--- lovely. Conrad and I sat and ordered their famed corn bread, simply because it had top billing. And I wanted to hear the sweet notes of their top performer. And I am disappointed to say that this corn bread was at best basic, and at worst disappointing, simply because I have honestly had better. Let us just say that the cornbread did not have a deep honey taste, nor did it have, the crispy edges of other cornbread I have had. This bite did not checkmark the boxes of a wonderful skillet corn bread. But the stranger thing is that every other bite we did have was fantastic. Conrad and I shared the green tomatoes, the brussels, and the ricotta toast, with the ham. All of this was strong fare, and I appreciated the fried green tomatoes alot. Many restaurants do not serve the delicacy of the South, and in fact I only know of another place that serves them- the Attic in Long Beach. So these were a great treat, full stop, as they saw. Ironically, the Attic also has honey corn bread. The ricttota bread was my favorite thing of the night. It was delicious, and filling. The bread was crispy and fluffy, and a great balance of sweet, with the jam, and salty with the ham. The ricotta added pop of novelty since not a lot bites focus on ricotta. So basically this place is truly well worth a visit. I know I might be a party of one on this one, but I would maybe skip the cornbread. I had been wanting to go to Hatchet Hall for quiteeee a long time, so I threw it out as a suggestion when my friends and I were brainstorming dinner spots and alas, they accepted! Hatchet Hall is a wood fire cookery that focuses on seasonal ingredients and old American techniques. I'm pretty sure I've had it on my list since they got their Michelin Star (which they've since lost, sadly). We made a reservation and were seated pretty promptly when we arrived. Street parking was free nearby since it was after 6pm which was of course a bonus. After browsing the menu, we ended up ordering what felt like a lot of food but every dish was so good and totally worth it. I got a mocktail that was picture perfect and tasted just as good. We shared the Hatchet Hall Board, Brussels sprouts, and market greens. For mains, I ordered the baked potato gnocchi while my friends got the Peads & Barnetts pork chop, and meatloaf with mash. Plenty of cocktails and wine were also enjoyed. We wrapped things up with the cobbler for dessert. I wish I had taken more photos of the food, but you'll just have to trust me that everything was great. The bill added up quickly (especially with drinks at nearly $20 a pop), but honestly, it was worth it for the ambiance, the vibes, and the overall experience. Had the cornbread plate, and I've been dreaming about another. Buttery, crisp outer layer, soft and moist in the middle . I think there was jalapeños and cheddar in the batter. Then I had the apple glaze short rib! Juicy! Full of dark, yummy glazé, RICH! I couldn't tell you if there was whipped mash with horseradish or whipped ricotta with horseradish, either way, paired perfectly! Ended the night with their STP, I must say this was my least favorite item. The sauce tasted like toasted lard and no sugar, and the pudding had a strange burnt flavor. Everything else was AMAZING! We came here for New Years Eve dinner and had such a nice time! The ambiance was so cute with that "everything thrifted" vibe with mismatched tables, chairs, and plates which gave it so much character. The service was very good and our waiter was kind. The food was incredible, we definitely ordered too much and had to take some home. The Ricotta Toast and carrots were unexpected faves, the cornbread was as good as you'd expect, the gnocchi and short rib were delicious but so rich we definitely only needed one but it was fun to try both! Three of my best friends had baby girls in August, and a few weeks ago, we gathered for the first time since as a group, to celebrate Melissa K. and June K.'s birthdays. All five of us in this crew are moms now, and after comparing bedtimes and solving for distance and traffic, we ended up at Hatchet Hall at 8:00 on a Tuesday. The exact place we wanted to be. The restaurant was as charming as I remembered, and we received good service throughout our dinner. I had an excellent cocktail, the Careless Whisper, a savory vesper martini made with vodka, gin, white vermouth, mango brandy, crème fraîche, and chive. I also tried some of Mel's Sundown No. 2, a lovely clarified punch with tequila, private barrel rum, Aperol, pineapple, coconut, coffee, and marigold. The food was delicious. We shared nine dishes five ways, plus dessert, and this was a solid order. We started with the cast iron cornbread, which could be the best thing on the menu. It was superb, warm and buttery, richly flavored with white cheddar, shishito peppers, and wildflower honey. The pickle plate was a colorful, vinegary counterpoint, with a delightful array of seasonal market vegetables: carrot, okra, cucumber, green bean, cabbage, and beet. We got two salads and both felt wholesome and fresh, with quality ingredients. The farmer's market greens came with avocado, almonds, radish, lemon vinaigrette, and fine herbs; the tomato and stone fruit salad with cucumber, red onion, basil, and aged balsamic. A whole butterflied branzino was the sort of centerpiece of our meal, a beautifully cooked fish with paprika chili oil, court-bouillon sauce, and pickled green tomato. The shrimp and grits were nice, too, if on the small side, with one blue prawn for each of us. They came with white grits and what the menu called the "holy trinity," which I take to be some mix of aromatics for the tasty roux. We rounded out our dinner with a few vegetable dishes. One of these was everyone's favorite vegetable dish, the house cut fries, crispy and golden, with spicy ketchup and aioli on the side. The sprouting cauliflower was green and tender, served with jalapeño bagna cauda, pepita salt, and preserved lemon. The roasted Nantes carrots were sweet and earthy, with red chimichurri, herb labne, puffed wild rice, and honey. For dessert, we split the apple crumble and the strawberry rhubarb shortcake, both winners. The crumble was warm and comforting, served in a little cast iron pan with spiced pecan streusel, bourbon caramel, and vanilla ice cream. The shortcake was bright, sweet, and tart, with strawberry and rhubarb layered with buttermilk biscuit and a soft blanket of whipped cream. This was a wonderful dinner, celebrating birthdays as well as friendship and new motherhood. Love Hatchet Hall! We usually post up at the bar. The drinks are top notch and the space is absolutely beautiful. Note:the first part of the bar when you walk in is for reservations, but the back is for first come, first serve. Try. The. Cornbread. It's amazing-I've honestly never had anything bad on the menu. My recent visit to Hatchet Hall was one of the best food service experiences I've had in LA in a long time! Our server, Ashley, knocked it out of the park the whole night. We were lucky enough to snag an 8:15PM reservation on a Friday night to celebrate my husband's birthday. We arrived around 7:45 so we could check out the Old Man Bar for a drink. We both opted for the dealer's choice and got wonderful spins on classic drinks - mine rye, his bourbon. We were able to embrace the cozy atmosphere for a bit before taking our drinks to our table. The whole restaurant is very dark and moody, and shockingly large. I couldn't believe it just kept going! We knew, of course, that we would try the corn bread. After hearing such wonderful things about it, my expectations were pretty high. I was a little confused when I found out it was smaller than a salad plate and cost $21..... but after one bite..... yeah, I'd pay $21 for that. To go with the corn bread, for two people, we ordered: - Honey Dates ($10): this came with 4 dates. It was tasty, but it was the only thing we ordered that I would skip next time. - Little Gem Caesar ($18): This was a sizable portion for a shared starter! I love that it came with whole white boquerones on top. - Hamachi Ceviche ($25): This was very fresh and came with two tostadas on the side. - Grilled Elk Loin ($55): Apparently there is always some version of elk on the menu, and the preparation changes seasonally. During our visit, it was prepared with brown butter & bacon vinaigrette, mission fig, and balsamic. I loved the way it was served, and it was cooked perfectly. Even after we finished the meat, we were scraping the grilled figs off of the plate. - House Cut Fries ($12): We had to see if they were any good, and, surprise, they are! They are served in a large bowl with ketchup and housemade mayo. - Chocolate Chip Cookies ($12): As good as you can imagine, when the rest of the food was as exciting and comforting as it was. The menu here is just a joy to read. It was so hard to decide what to order. We may have ordered a little too much for two people, but that just makes me want to come back with a group to enjoy more of their recipes. read more

Oh my god. This place is so good. You've literally never had cornbread until you've had cornbread from Hatchet Hall. GOODNESS GRACIOUS. I've never had anything like it. It's so flavorful and juicy. Every bite was so savory. My fiance ordered the fried green tomato and even that was so flavorful and delicious. Not something I would have ever thought of getting but I'm so glad we got it! Then we got some baked oysters and they were so juicy with so much flavor I slurped the entire thing up. For our main we got a pork chop because it was a few ounces bigger than the elk. I loved how fatty the pork was and it was so tender and juicy. Finally for dessert we got the sticky toffee pudding which was so good but we also ordered ice cream on the side which was $8 but took FOREVER to come and we wanted to wait and eat the toffee pudding with the ice cream so we ended up waiting like 30 minutes for the ice cream to come. By the time the ice cream came the toffee pudding was cold so we sent the ice cream back. Our waiter was super friendly but not the boys that filled up our water. One of them literally spilled water on my plate after refilling my drink and didn't even apologize. When I told another bus boy how our ice cream came super late and we wanted to return it, he pretended not to hear me and made me repeat myself and wasn't even apologetic that our ice cream came super late!? I'm knocking off 1 star for all of that! It just felt extremely careless. I loved their outdoor seating. It's super dog friendly we had 3 dogs with us! I love their plates here too so cute! Def a must try and there's plenty of parking around the neighborhood unless you want to pay $15 for valet! read more

The service was a little odd, the worker was a bit off putting but I'm beginning to think this is the "new LA" and they were just tired of all of the influx of people.
