Booked a birthday dinner at Hau Tree for the sunset and beachside views! You can book 30 days in advance online which I recommend if you're looking for the specific sunset time to time it right. Very limited parking and we had to valet it which came out to only $10 with restaurant validation. Service was friendly but felt slow. Food was decent but I just wasn't impressed. I've never complained about large portions but why were there so many dang potatoes as the side it was so wasteful and didn't taste that great either. The sunset beach views were great but I wouldn't go out of my way to come back here. It didn't hit the spot for us. Drink: - liliko'i margarita (has tajin like rim) was limey Food: - chip & rainbow caviar - really good! - lomi hamachi - kale & spinach salad add seared ahi - very small ahi - 12 oz washugyu striploin with side: roasted potatoes (do not get this side and it was way too many see pic) side: roasted eggplant
From start to finish, this was an exception experience. Ocean/beachfront seating on their lanai, with woven lanterns hanging through out. Tiki torches really helped set the vibe. You absolutely need reservations for a table on the Lanai for dinner. Prime times are for the sunset. We were seated immediately and our order for refreshments wasn't long behind. What we ordered: ** a bottle of Chianti wine ** the focaccia bread served with a balsamic whipped butter. ** Mido Caesar salad, , my husband and I split the salad. ** fennel sausage orecchiette ** kahuku golden tomato strozzapreti ** Complementary Guava cake for our Anniversary The focaccia bread was warm and soft. The balsamic whipped butter was delightful. The kahuku golden tomato strozzapreti pasta dish reminded me of the pasta dishes I ate while visiting in Italy. It is a light and flavorful dish, the sweet tomatoes were bursting with flavor. My husband ordered the fennel sausage and orecchiette pasta dish, this was also delicious. Our server was very friendly and prompt, adding her favorite items from the menu. They served us a light and fluffy complementary Guava cake for our anniversary. We loved the whole experience.
Okay, this place is stunning. Plus it has such a great view along the beach! The food was pretty good - the focaccia and rainbow dip was to die for. Pasta felt plain unfortunately. Service was so good. We were so obvious we were tourist and just came by to celebrate a nice occasion and our waitress was so accommodating, even covering our pasta plates while we took a break to take some photos on the beach!
Excellent food. Our server Michael was very kind and attentive. My boyfriend and I went here to celebrate my birthday dinner and enjoyed everything we ate here from the oysters, to our drinks (piña colada & lava flow) and our dinner which was a pasta and miso ceasar salad with seared ahi. The ahi was perfect. Birthday dessert was a guava chiffon cake, small but enjoyable. Wish we tried the coconut cake! This restaurant made our time in Hawaii so enjoyable especially with the beachfront view. If the sun is not setting, cover up or wear sunscreen/bring your sunglasses or a hat!
Beautiful place to have breakfast/brunch with your date, family, or friends! Very very relaxed ambiance with amazing views and great food! It is on the pricier side, but no other breakfast/brunch can beat this place with food and views! Service is spectacular as well, we wanted near ocean table with great view and host did not hesitate to accommodate, our server Kody was very patient and knowledgeable about the menu and restaurant. Wow! Thank you Hau Tree. We were seated outside right in front of the baby monk seal. The view was beautiful and it was a beachy vibe. It was hot, but the hostess brought us fans and was very accommodating if we needed to move. The fish was delicious, the produce tasted so fresh (salad and tomatoes) so it was worth the $$ to me just because nothing was "tired."The pasta was also cooked perfectly al dente. I recommend reservations, my mom and I had a beautiful Mother's Day / birthday / graduation celebration, they even brought out a cake. I didn't feel rushed at all, and I'll be going back here again. Valet was only $10.
Came here with my husband for brunch. He tried the Hau tree eggs Benedict and I tried the Avocado eggs Benedict. The dishes came with a potatoes and salad. Very fresh! Both were good! We also tried the Ube Cinnamon roll. Yum! Not too sweet. The cinnamon roll was huge! Service was good. It started raining so our server quickly came over to move us to another table. They have an open concept where there's indoor and outdoor seating and a great beach view.
decided to make a reservation at hau for my boyfriend and i's anniversary and had a great experience. checked in and we had to wait about 10-15 minutes for our table but the lobby had comfortable seatings. our server luke was extremely sweet and helpful with the menu, especially for our first time. the setting is more intimate and classy and there's great views of the ocean/beach. as for the food, i'd say it was pretty good but nothing super special. their focaccia bread is one of their more popular apps, and it was fluffy/airy with the yummy balsamic brown butter. the pastas tasted good and were cooked nicely, but truly just average pasta. everything came out about room temperature, but i also understand we're near the beach so the winds probably cool it down tremendously fast. with all that in mind, i'd say this spot definitely looks good for the photos but you can find much better tasting italian food with much more reasonable prices.
Tuesday 830pm I was looking to reserve a table for three guests two days before I wanted to have dinner, but the only options were 8:30pm and later. When we arrived there were plenty of tables available. I was a little concerned about the wind and the cold (60s) because we were seated outdoors but it was perfect, probably because we were enclosed by trees and walls. I'm glad we sat outside because in the dark (no sunset to watch over Kaimana beach) the setting was still beautiful. We ordered the crispy octopus, kale and spinach salad, eggplant, burrata and tomatoes, mango whoopsie, fudge, and banoffee tiramisu. The kale salad had quite a bit of gorgonzola on it, so I got to eat most of it. I liked the banoffee tiramisu and eggplant. I LOVED the burrata and tomatoes. Who knew olive tamponade went with tomatoes? I could have made a meal with just the eggplant and the burrata tomatoes. I have always remembered valeting my car, but this time we parked for free at the meters that were free after 6pm, just across the street. I remember I loved the tuna tartare and burrata toast last time. Always a lovely place to dine at!
An overall sad experience here. I originally wanted to book for a group of 6, but the response I received from the restaurant was rude and dismissive. I ended up booking for just my fiancée and I. We stayed in town and ended up leaving an appointment early and when we called to see if we could get an early reservation, the hostess on the phone told us "check open table online." Okay, so that's a no? When we arrived, 15 minutes early, the nicest staff member was the valet at the hotel. The bartenders and the hostesses both acted like we were an inconvenience to be there. And for the record, the table they sat us at was available for the 15 minutes we were waiting at the bar. The server saw us at the bar and didn't come and get us for the table, we waited for a text message. The food was mid tier at best, drinks cost us about $50 for 2. Would not return here unless there is a serious attitude adjustment for staff.
I had such a great experience at Hau Tree--it's one of those places that just feels special from the moment you walk in. Sitting right by the beach under the trees with the ocean so close was honestly hard to beat. It's peaceful, beautiful, and exactly the kind of setting I was hoping for. The food was really good--fresh, flavorful, and not too heavy. You can tell they put care into everything. I especially appreciated how relaxed everything felt while still being really well done.
I made an Opentable Sunday brunch reservation and requested a table against the wall next to the beach (which we received), and indicated we were there for our anniversary. Great venue and good food. We parked across the street for 3 hours of parking for $1.44 on a Sunday (it is free until 10am on Sun). We started with a cinnamon roll ($16/ea) and two different Mai Tias ($19/ea). With the cinnamon roll being the standout item. Both Mai Tias were good but I would stick with the Waikiki Mai Tai over the 1944 Mai Tai. Next we ordered a fish sandwich ($27) and a burger ($28). The fish sandwich was unique-enough and tasty. The burger was nothing special. Both came with McDonald skinny fries. Seeing some of the brunch items around me, I'd do a benedict and some other breakfast item next time and skip the sandwiches. The burger is on HH for $20 which better aligns with its presentation and fries. We got a complementary slice of cake and two glasses of champagne for our anniversary celebration. The waiter was excellent. Overall I would return, just make some different decisions to elevate the experience.

Located in one of the hotels off the Strip, it is a stunning location to have a meal in Hawaii, located on the beach. We were able to get a seat under the trees and got a view of the beach and prime time sunset! Our waitress was friendly and helfpul with recommendations for cocktails and food. We ordered the focaccia and enjoyed the butter it came with! My husband and I shared the wagyu and crab tagitalle, and both were delicious. The restaurant ambiance is beautiful and relaxing, definitely worth the views! read more
Unreal da views!!!! Celebrating da holidays with my friend Jennifer C., and Hau Tree was the place of choice, so we decided to swing on by Hau Tree for breakfast. You can find Hau Tree in the heart of Waikiki, and the restaurant is located inside of the Kaimana Beach Hotel. When walking into this restaurant, you will be treated to some very spectacular views from the lanai seating area! The restaurant itself had a nice casual vibe, and the clientele appeared to be mostly tourists. Upon getting seated on the Lanai, menus were dropped off and shortly afterwards we ordered some morning coffee to our table. Upon looking over the menu, we ordered the following items - 1. Hau Tree Eggs Benedict ($27.00) - ham, harissa, hollandaise, chives. Served w/house salad, & breakfast potatoes. 2. Calamansi Ricotta Pancakes ($23.00) - calamansi curd, sweet ricotta, fresh fruit & a side order of two scrambled eggs. Overall, a great dining experience! The food was yummy, the restaurant atmosphere and view was spectacular, and the coffee served here was very good! If I had to say something needed to be improved - service here was a wee-bit slow, and our waitress didn't appear to be too attentive, but no matter...........as we weren't in a rush anyways. This is an outdoor restaurant next to the lobby of Kaimana Beach Hotel. It has such a beautiful view of the beach and makes for such a nice brunch experience. I got to try the crab cake benedict, shashuka and toast as well as the loaded bloody mary. The crab cake was my favorite. Its very well put together. The crab comes thru very well. The potatoes on the side were nicely seasoned. The shashuka was also nice. The buttered toast carried the sauce so well. The loaded bloody mary was good too tho i wished it had more than just 2 blocks of spam and an orange. Maybe some celery or shrimp? read more
WOW! I had heard brunch is even better than dinner and I can't imagine! We started out with some Ube Pina Coladas and an espresso martini. The Ube Pina Colada is a MUST try. Soooo delicious (and healthy?) Espresso martini was good but not as good. Our appetizers were oysters and brussel sprouts. Both had a spicy little kick from the red flakes shown in the picture. It wasn't too spicy and added a fresh new taste to classics. We really enjoyed them. Both entrees were also amazing. Steak was perfect and the pasta was decadent. Our server was super friendly and helpful. She got us some flowers to take pictures with as we were watching the sunset. What a view! The restaurant is decorated impeccably. Overall, I would visit again for dinner. It is pricey but worth the splurge for a sunset view meal with amazing service. read more

Mom and I loved the ambience, music was perfect and the food was amazing. The caviar is actually fish roe for those who are picky about that. There wasn't much of a description on the menu and didn't bother to ask our waiter about it, I just assumed, regardless the app still tasted great. read more

Lovely spot for date night or just a fancier dinner out. Came for sunset and was sat in the front, beautiful view. The restaurant ambiance is just so beautiful, simple and relaxing. Enjoyed my entree the lobster beurre blanc was very complimentary to the fish. The fish was seared and had a nice crisp and the texture of the corn succotash was a nice addition. The ube cocktail (not pictured) and the Miso Caesar Salad were also delicious. read more
On a recent work trip to Hawai'i, I stayed at Kaimana Beach Hotel -- the same location where Hau Tree is located -- so the restaurant became my go-to for meals, especially breakfast. The restaurant is split between the rear lobby area of the hotel and down closer to the beach, but wherever you are seated, you get a wonderful view of the expansive sky and ocean. I found every dish that I had during my stay quite enjoyable. On the first day, I had seared fish after a recommendation from my server. Everything about it was tasty, although the fish was a little on the saltier side for my taste. Over the course of the next three days, I had the following dishes for breakfast: two eggs any style, avocado toast with soft boiled egg (additional fee for the egg), and local ahi niçoise. Every dish was delicious and served as great starts to the day. Some minor detractions are the cost (expensive for an out of towner but probably pretty standard for Hawai'i), small portions, and the slow and inattentive service. One morning, I kept trying to catch the attention of my server to ask for the check, but he did not see me until he had delivered three other checks to different tables. Another time, I didn't get water until just before my meal was ready. The food is definitely worth a visit, but don't attempt a visit when in a rush. read more

The Art of Pasta at Hau Tree Waikiki Beach is a unique monthly culinary experience that is a must for foodies from anywhere. You make pasta with origins that stem from 3 different regions of Italy and you get to eat it as well! You arrive to spritzers on the patio and proceed to a presentation on the pastas from Culinary Director and award winning chef Taube. His expertise in cooking and education are evident as he explains: 1. Agnolotti- stuffed sheets of pasta from Northern climes of Italy;2.Campanelle-Tuscan style extruded pasta from semolina wheat and 3. Orechiette- semolina pasta from Puglia shaped by hand. Do not fear- Chef Taube and his delightful staff have everything prepared for your education in all things pasta. Begin by donning chef aprons and washing hands to prepare orecchiette from scratch. Yes, you actually put the wheat on the counter, make a well in the middle and pour in the water. As you get an upper body workout listening to Frank Sinatra, you are in fact creating pasta with some fight to it. Your sweat and effort results in mini ears of courser semolina shaped with your hands, a rolling pin and a knife. Above all else, this experience makes you appreciate the hard work and artistry involved in pasta making. The campanelle combines semolina and egg yolks pushed through an extruder. Finally, you get to try your hand at sheeting pasta and creating ravioli style agnolotti stuffed with a truffle lemon fonduta filling. This is not as easy as it sounds. In the midst of this education, the Hau Tree staff give the students a breather as you experience Prosecco and sunset views of Waikiki Beach. Sublime! The meal itself is served on an elegant table near the ocean. Fresh focaccia is served- crunchy crust with a nice give on the inside. Next is an incredibly fresh salad with an indescribably delicious dressing. Your first course is orechiette with a dressing of olive oil, broccoli rabe and pine nuts. This was excellent! Second was the campanelle with a light tomato sauce and pecorino. Wonderful flavor. Finally, the truffle fonduta agnolotti was rich and creamy with that hint of truffle and lemon. If you can't eat everything, Chef Taube invariably produces a goodie bag of leftovers for everyone! The wine pairings for this event were excellent. Truly wonderful and unique. If you like wine with pasta, this is a must do experience! But wait- as a surprise, you get a refreshing deconstructed tiramisu for dessert! Make reservations for this monthly event online. It's informative, fun, delicious and an experience you'll never forget! Kudos to Chef Taube and staff for this culinary adventure to Italy, all without leaving Honolulu. read more
Such a perfect spot for brunch. I love that they offer brunch all week long with perfect views so we don't have to fight weekend crowds for a yummy meal. My girlfriends and I came during my recent visit and it was absolutely delightful. The servers were extremely helpful with suggestions and being patient with taking our picture! Can't wait to come back again. Amazing service! Make sure to set a reservation because it does get booked up quickly. The lamb chops were tender and the octopus had a great sauce and a crispy outside. If you would like to sit in the lanai, you need to specify for your reservation. When it fills up, you will sit at the high tops but it's still a very pretty view. I've never been to this place before and I feel like everyone has except for me! Haha. Made a reservation on their website. I highly recommend just in case they are busy! Parking along the street (metered and some not) or valet parking ($10 w/validation). I ended up valet parking since I couldn't find street and didn't want to walk either ;). Ended up getting the Hau Tree Eggs Benedict and added bacon. The more meat the better! Yum! One of the best eggs Benedict I've had on island. Highly recommend. Also tried the Queens cooler and it was super refreshing! Our waiter was happy, friendly and helpful! I definitely recommend and want to come back during the sunset one day. They are located right on Kaimana beach so it's beautiful! read more
I so wanted to be 'wowed' with the experience based on all the other reviews. The best part is certainly the ocean view and listening to the waves crash while dining. We opted for the small plate Focaccia Bread with balsamic bitter and it was really good. Husband had the pasta which was good but did not have any protein and was on the smaller side. I went for the Cesar salad and was thoroughly unimpressed with the very small portion for $22. Also, it advertised croutons but it was just very salty croutons dust. We had reservations for a second night but I went ahead and cancelled because for the price, I just wasn't impressed. read more
Came here as a final dinner to end our trip to Hawai'i and my boyfriend and I loved it. Be sure to make reservations before dining, as you may not be able to get a seat to this gorgeous location. Located on the beach, the spot offers a beautiful view as you enjoy your brunch or dinner. The decor is absolutely stunning and bridges a great a dining experience to being outside and on the beach. My boyfriend and I started the dinner with the classic and ube pina coladas and they were delicious. And for our dishes we got the brussel sprouts, local seared fish, and crab tagliatelle. Overall, everything was delicious (and psa, made for phenomenal leftovers as well). The fish was my favorite as it was light and a great portion for a lighter dinner. The crab tagliatelle was creamy and saucy; and the crab in it was fresh, portions were great, and the meat was so so tender. I arrived at seven for my reservation for the Christmas dinner. The hostess was wonderful, very kind and professional. When the sever approached my table, it was a prefix menu that had two entrée choices. The server opened with there's a few changes to the menu this section the entree we're out of both. He said it so clam and no big deal without a care in the world. I said you don't find that odd on a prefix menu that cost $155 a person and the restaurant can't figure out how to order the right amount of food. No response from him. Let's talk about the food and how embarrassing it is for the Chef that works there I'm shocked the chef doesn't even taste his own food and doesn't even know how to order inventory. The scallop crudo totally embarrassing not sure he knows what crudo is. The falafel was this 2 dried up round balls that when you cut them it just fell apart. Second course this dish had potential if it wasn't floating in oil and the focaccia bread had so much salt on it you could've used it just to salt your food. Entree so they serve the typical sirloin steak that you can get pretty much anywhere and probably better as well with two pieces of asparagus, but at least they cooked it properly. Dessert probably the most embarrassing part of the whole menu and I can't believe the restaurant would even allow such a poor dessert. My question, did the chef stop at the grocery store and buy a rolled peppermint cake sliced it up stuck on a plate and put chocolate sauce and here you go I saved labor and money! Overall, i'm shocked at a restaurant in a hotel that has a general manager, a director of food and beverage, and a chef that none of them tried this Christmas dinner and said to themselves we have a lot of work to do on improving this quality . Instead they went and ruined probably quite a few people's Christmas with the poor quality of food that they served that they couldn't even fulfill a menu that they created and charged $155 per person they should be embarrassed. Out of respect, I think the general manager should reach out to each person that had a reservation and apologize for the embarrassing service and food quality that they put out. read more
This restaurant has a beautiful vibe with the hanging lights at night. It is also right next to the beach, so the view is wonderful. The servers are super sweet and attentive. The menu changed a little since last time I came here. I wanted congee but it wasn't on the menu. My friend and I were disappointed because congee was so delicious but food we ordered was good so we were happy. Eggs Benedict was better than before. It was great. Cured Salmon Benedict ($33) I love the tasty and delicate hollandaise sauce. Much better than heavy old recipe they had. Chicken Club ($26) Looks more like chicken burger but tasted better than chicken burger. I think the sauce and the bacon makes it good. Fish Sandwich ($27) It has lots of sesame on the fish and it was also good. I loved it. Frittata ($28) I ordered this because I'm avoiding wheat and I only had few choices. But I was so happy that it tasted great. It had many flavors mixed in the egg. Tastiness from Portuguese sausage, cheddar, sundried tomatoes and roasted peppers. So good. My choice of sauce was salsa verde and it added fresh taste to frittata. The other choice was hollandaise sauce. Price is on high side but it tastes so good and the atmosphere is wonderful so it's a great place for special brunch or special get together. Service was good too. read more

Everything is 5-star!!! We've dined here for brunch twice now and it's always such an amazing time. From the hosts to the food to the ambiance being right in front of Kaimana Beach. The vibe is super refreshing and the drive to the end of Waikiki is worth it. Their service have been top notch and they were attentive. Their Ube Pina Colada is the best pina colada I've ever had! & the Hau Tree adds to the Hawaiiana aesthetic, very photogenic! :) read more

Really lovely spot to dine, great food and great service! We decided on the 5-course dinner experience and it was lovely! They even were able to make changes for someone in our party with a fish allergy. And the last minute changes were so delicious. I would return again simply for the great drinks and to enjoy the beautiful view as it is beach front and open air. A MUST while you are in Waikiki. read more

Beautiful remodeled Hau Tree was a delight to re-experience. Dined there for our 35th anniversary and enjoyed an oceanside seating in the lanai. We were treated to views of Kaiwi and her newborn monk seal baby swimming in the ocean. The sunsets are beautiful from the restaurant too. Make reservations way in advance. I forgot and did the night begore and could only get a 7:45pm in the bar counter however I called the restaurant a few hours before our reservation and asked if thwy had any cancellations and was lucky to be offered a table in the downstairs outdoor lanai area! I love Hau tree for the ambiance and it's a bit nostalgic since I've been going to kaimana beach since I was born basically. I really like the new renovations in the lobby of the kaimana beach hotel and the Hau tree is that much better with the renovations. I think I prefer the brunch menu and people watching the beach goers, but I recently went for dinner and it was good, too. There is something magical about sitting on the beach at night with the lights sparking along the Hau tree leaves. The cocktails are perfect. They're a little pricey, but take my money. I think I prefer the appetizers and regular entrees to the pasta entrees. The hamachi carpaccio was so delicious and I really liked the salmon entree too. It was cooked perfectly and not dry at all. The desserts were also exceptional. This is kind of a pricey place, but I think it's worth it. The waitresses were friendly and attentive and we had a great time. read more

No idea. I was told you can't do this.
Is the old Hau Tree Menu gone? This is my husband's go-to birthday or anniversary place for years and always ordered the same thing. Sad to not see that menu anymore.
Yes it's gone, but better. Chef Chris Kajioka (Miro) along with Chef Alan (Le Bistro) are serving up amazing dishes. He'll be pleasantly surprised! Enjoy
