I've heard of Havana Cafe for years but never made my way there, until today! 12/18/22. My review is based on a Sunday early dinner service which began just as their brunch service ended. We were greeted by Niyah, very nice hostess who was very attentive while we were there and graciously offered us unlimited sangria even though brunch ended at 4pm and it was 3:55pm when we entered, I thought it was nice of her to extend that courtesy. I'll start with ambiance: space is nice, looks like it can get really tight when crowded but as we were coming at the end of brunch it ended up feeling cozy and warm. Music is loud, but we were still able to have conversation without having to scream at each other to hear. The bathrooms are clean and if you've read my other reviews you'll see that I will judge a whole restaurant based on their restrooms cleanliness... (so happy to report Havana Cafe was on point there.) Appetizer: We had the Pastelon Cubano it was sooooo tasty! It's best described as a type of "lasagne." Except there's no pasta, they use Maduros (sweet plantain) to layer with meat and mozzarella cheese. We chose the option with shredded beef instead of ground beef and it was really good! Would definitely order again. Entrées: Vaca Frita: this dish is supposed to be a shredded beef that's cooked to a crispy char and is loaded with onions and flavor, served with black rice and beans. The beans were tasty but nothing special about them. The beef wasn't crispy at all and lacked that necessary texture I was expecting. But it was really flavorful and filling so I'd say it was still a good meal overall. Lobster from the Cuban fusion menu was pretty good as well. The lobster was a bit over cooked for our taste but the flavors were spot on. It comes with a fried rice that has maduros in it and my partner liked it. It was a bit too overpowered with cilantro for my taste, but she really enjoyed it! The sangrias were pretty good. They didn't add as much fruit as I was expecting from a sangria. There were a few pieces of what was either green apple or green pear floating in the cup but nothing else. No pineapple, red apple or even a piece of orange. It was a passion fruit sangria and a tropical sangria but there were no tropical fruit or actual passion fruit in the drink. I think that would amp up the drink and up the flavor a bit. But overall they were good drinks. Service was good our waitress was nice but I really want to point out how amazing the host Niyah was. She was really nice from the moment we entered and checked on us while we waited for our drinks and food! It seems like their staff works well together and it all flowed smoothly from what we could gather. As for pricing it was fair in my opinion. The quality and taste of the food was worth the price they're asking! We'll definitely be back.

Cozy place with extremely authentic Cuban food. It is not in the best neighborhood, but the place itself is pretty nice. In addition to their large menu, they also have a wide assortment of drink options I got a steak sandwich and it was absolutely delicious The downsides were that the water glasses were tiny and the service was not the best 9

Yummy food, great drinks and prices. I visited around your typical weekday happy hour time, just before the after work rush. You can't ever go wrong with the Picadera Parillada and Havana Sushi! This is such a legendary Bronx spot. The vibes and aesthetic inside transports you to Cuba. The food is well seasoned, the music is great and the drinks are delicious. The waiter was accommodating and added more Tajin to our drinks. Supporting local businesses is the way to go!

First time coming here for happy hour with my boyfriend and it was such a good vibe. There was a dj that was playing all types of music which is great as it caters to everyone. Our bartender was on point! His name was Neil and he suggested drinks such as the mango crush which was amazing, it was sweet with a little punch. I had two of those drinks and a mojito. Don't judge me lol. My boyfriend had a henny sidecar and another drink with Henny and champagne I recommend both for drink liquor type of people. As far as food, we had a platter which I thought wasn't a lot of food but lord we had enough to take home with an array of meat like grilled chicken, steak, and sausage with tostones and yuca fries on the side I cannot remember what it was called on the menu. It came quick as well.There are so many options from light food and heavy dinner food the choice is up to you. Oh wait, I forgot to mention how good it was there was an array of sauces on the side as well. Overall, we enjoyed ourselves at Havana and will definitely go back soon. There are plenty of stores nearby and trains as well. Ubers get there really quick as it is a pretty known spot. They also follow all CDC guidelines and the bathroom was clean as well. I recommend going to have a good time!

I had the seafood mofongo & langosta Carribèna. Mofongo was tender & flavorful in a seafood sauce with generous portions of seafood. The langosta Carribèna (Carribean Lobster) had a coconut sauce that wasn't too sweet. The rice had sweet plantains intertwined within which was creative. I was in food heaven. Dessert consisted of a chocolate tres leches cake which was nicely done. Update: Still my favorite spot in my hood. But they changed their brunch deal from a $9 charge for two hours of unlimited drinks to $20. They do have a $40 brunch option now that includes unlimited drinks and a 3 course meal but if you want to pick your own meal, that's not in the brunch special, and have a boozy brunch you're paying $20. I still really enjoy this place but a reason why I love it is because of the affordability. The prices are increasing all around and I hope it continues to be as affordable and high quality as it is now Lunch specials every week day for $6- can't be beat. Drinks are always good. My favs are the rum punch and mango mojito. And the service is always great. Great for happy hour,lunch, or dinner with friends if you're into Latin cuisine

This review is based on Sunday brunch. We arrived as a group at 1130am for our reservation and was promptly seated. It was still pretty empty and stayed that way until a bit before we left at almost 230pm when they got packed. We all got the unlimited drinks for $9. The busboy (possibly extra server)...he was the real MVP. He kept our glasses full . 4 of us and we got the paella, the shrimp mofongo, and Madre y hija with regular ropa vieja. The paella was delicious and was the Madre y hija. That ropa vieja was super flavorful and tender. The mofongo was just okay. It was quite a bit dry (even with the ajo sauce) and they literally put 3 shrimp on it. To me that was pretty stingy. And I know a good mofongo as i order it ever chance I get on menus. Or main server was also a let down. She was very present until we ordered. Then we didn't see her again till we asked for the check.

I had dinner with friends on a week night......place was packed and we did have a small wait....nothing major......the waitstaff was attentive and friendly but I was not a huge fan of my food...now my friends enjoyed their meals but mines was a complete flop.....I had the coconut batter lobster tails......the quality of the lobster was poor and it was over cooked.....however where the lacked in food for me.....the drinks made up for it.....the drinks are on point......I had the Peach Lemonade and a Passionfruit mojito and I do not know which was better.......they both were refreshing super fruity yet strong.....strong in the sense that it creeps up on you....honestly I went here because I heard about them having a good happy hour.......I will most definitely give them another try with the food.....but they have me hooked on happy hour..... And my 3 rating is strongly because the drinks were good.....my food experience would have been a 2

Beautiful spot, clean, organized and spacious! The outdoor patio was beautiful as well but unfortunately due the crazy heat, we stuck to staying indoors lol. Menu has a variety of foods to choose from. Many options even has a vegan section. The drink menu was a great selection with many options as well. Presentation & taste were both satisfying. For the price, you most definitely get your money worth. I had the Cubano salad with salmon and extra avocado & olive oil. Such a huge bowl of greens that left me beyond full. Other dishes were consumed by my company, check out the photos. There's street parking, usually not hard to find parking around the restaurant location. Overall, we are definitely coming back to this establishment! When we do, we will definitely try desserts since the coconut brownies had my curiosity, I can't wait!

Great spot, our party ordered a few things, the Ropa Vieja and The Salmon were particularly awesome though. Pineapple Mojito was amazing. I was really happy with this place. Our waiter Justin was very accommodating which I really appreciated. The food was really good & we had the $9 bottomless mimosas on Sunday at 8/9 o'clock until closing. Havanna Cafe is the bomb-diggity!!! Saturday night was my first time here. The ambiance is nice, our server was pleasant and the drinks were on point! I had one of the drink specials -- a pomegranate something-or-other -- and it was excellent. I wasn't really hungry so I chose appetizers. I had bacalaito and spinach empanadas. Both were excellent. The El Grande, a jumbo lobster and crab cake with a mango and habanero sauce was delish as well. I would definitely recommend this place for date night, girls night out or just because. One of the nicer places in the Bronx. Loved it!!! read more

Good times with good people. Lively music and appetizing food in abundance. The orange walls match the high energy in this cafe. The waiter was very attentive. I was satisfied with my food for the most part. As my fellow Yelp reviewer stated the Bacalaitos were a bit salty. I'd recommend eating the Bacalaitos with the mustard sauce paired with the dish. It dulls the taste of the salt from the Bacalaitos. My Ropa Vieja was good, it could have used a bit of salt to bring out the flavors. Oh, the irony! The White Wine Sangria was good. My mojito was pretty good as well. All in all, this place was A-Ok! read more

This location is a little smaller than the location on E Tremont Ave but it's still beautifully decorated and the bar area is much larger. The reception was not inviting to be honest. Walking in, the hostess and other employees carried on a long conversation before we were even acknowledged about seating. The tables are very tight and close together so there is no room for privacy. Your neighbors will more than likely know everything you discussed because of the proximity of each table. The food was mediocre - the steak and onions was plated well but not something I would ever order again. The meat was tough and chewy. The beans were bland but there are few Spanish restaurants that make beans well. The Pia was tasty but some of the seafood was over cooked and rubbery. I'd suggest maybe sticking to the Pork Shoulder or appetizers and beer. Drinks are poorly made. read more

***This review is only for the delivery/take out service*** I was really hungry on Christmas Eve and I had no food in the house, ack! Most places around me were closed but I took a chance on Havana. They have two vegan friendly dishes: Hummus Latino and the Quinoa Salad (possibly a third -- Pastelon de Verduras). I ordered both via Seamless and they were at my house in less than 30 minutes, still hot. The hummus was really tasty and it was a generous portion (about 6 oz) but the real star of the dish was the garlic flatbread. I offered some to my mom and she complained that I ate it all. I don't know what they put in it but it had a nice kick from the garlic and a really great charred flavor (with char marks), like you would get from a flatbread or pizza. The quinoa salad was a bit less successful, the veggies were supposed to be grilled but they were overcooked and didn't mesh well with the rest of the salad. It was still nice with the quinoa, but I probably wouldn't get it again, unless it came with avocado or something to balance the acidity. Overall it was a good first impression and I would gladly order the hummus again. 3 stars for the food, additional star for the speedy delivery. read more

I had a fabulous time at this place last sat. It was a bday celebration for my cousin and we had a reservation for 14. They called to confirm 2x and were ready for us when we got there. The service was excellent our waitress was very attentive, helpful and was on point. They are able to accommodate some large groups and we had a ball. The dj set up later and it was party time. My cousin had the best bday ever. The food was very great and the drinks....excellent!! Definitely will go back. A little gem in the bronx....who knew?? read more

Customers, PLEASE check your potato salad before consuming it, it's not suppose to smell! Expired food is dangerous and disgusting! Shame on Havana management! How dare you not check your food before sending it off for delivery! The rice has no flavor and is a little on the hard side! Did I mention that they are overpriced for mediocre food? I've been going to Havana Cafe for years and I'm so disappointed with the new management team! Let me start by saying they add gratuity at the bar! I have never had gratuity added to my check. Then the bartender tells me or they add it for late night and brunch well guess what I didn't eat off the brunch menu nor do I come here late night! It's illegal as per Tips Certification to enforce a tip on a client unless it's a large party! Also the food is not the same. The consistency of Tremont to Castle is totally different! They just hurting their business more and more! I am in the hospitality business for 20 years and I have never ever enforced a tip on client especially if the bartender / server provides horrible service! The bartender was horrible on Sat day. She didn't know what light beers they had then my food came out and I had to as her for silverware. Jennifer the bartender needs to be retrained and learn about customer service! read more

This location was much better than the one located on Tremont avenue. The staff here was helpful although it was a Sunday and packed. I enjoyed the good food. I was unable to try the drinks or deserts but even then the ones I saw other's having looked good. read more

I came here for brunch with two of my friends since we've been to the one on East Tremont. As Soon as we arrived it was a decent amount of people, the waitress took her time to get to us, but she was the only waitress that I'm guessing was working that day. As soon as we started to order, large groups started to walk in and I noticed that they started rearranging chairs and trying to make room for them. So as we're eating I noticed that the waiter and I'm guessing manager kept staring at us trying to see when we would finish our food since they' needed more seats and tables, Mind you it hasn't even been 30 minutes. As we're eating I took a pause and quickly the waitress wrapped my food up to go because like I said they were trying to accommodate the larger groups arriving. Food came out in about 15 minutes, but it was the driest turkey Sandwich I've ever eaten, my friends ordered the omelette and french toast and they also were unimpressed. The other location is way better and the waitress is more attentive. read more

I absolutely love this place. My partner and I frequent this establishment weekly (mainly because we are lushes and can't go wrong with the happy hour). I make it my mission to try something new every time and I have yet been disappointed. At times, service can be slow because there is only one bartender but these circumstances are usually rare. I love the castle hill location because it accessible via train and I can walk home. However, I must admit that the Tremont location is fantastic as well! If it's your first time, I promise you will not be disappointed. read more

Let's just start off with food was amazing!! Love love loved it, the wings are amazing...went here for my sisters birthday..we went for happy hour which was great any flavor mojito is only $7 there's more on the happy hour drinks but I love mojito's and they don't spare the alcohol which is great some places don't put much alcohol in the drinks when it's happy hour but not them,u will enjoy the drinks..I got full off my appetizers but greedy me still ate half of my main course..with the apps they give u a large amount except for the wings it's only six pieces...I wanna say the only bad thing with them is that I went on a Wednesday which I guess is off peak hours so it was only one waiter which means we had to wait a while for service but he was pleasant and apologetic..my next trip will be for brunch...I will give a second review on that. read more

I had the coconut rice with the pork shoulder on the bone. Its a lot of food so be prepared. If you have an app, you might get stuffed with just that. Go hungry, have an app to share if your having their dinner entres. I had my left overs for lunch the next day and it was still bangin. read more

Wonderful place to take a date. I have had dinner here on multiple occasions and have also experienced the wonderful delights of brunch! I will say that the seating is a bit cramped and it can get a little to loud during brunch, but that's understandable. The menu is diverse and the drinks are tasty. Definitely a place to visit if you are in the area. read more

Atmosphere very nice-if not a little noisy. But that was okay-can still have a conversation and enjoy the energy and music. Food-excellent-my husbands chicken was well seasoned and tender-not dry! I had the bone in pork-very good-rice excellent! I would have given 5 stars except that my husbands' mojito was not very good- he loves them and where ever we go he gets one so we have many to compare to! This mojito had really no lime, no mint, no simple sugar- I think it was just rum and soda water!!! However, we would definately go back-would have the sangria-no mojito! Street parking no problem! Great little place service attentive, food excellent, drinks okay! read more

I came here on 4/6/17 at 5pm for a quick bit and some drinks..The name of the place is Havana and advertises Mojitos as a signature, so i tried the Classic Mojito which tastes very unbalanced and no where near a mojito. Sadly, i could say TGI Fridays have made better Mojitos with artificial ingredients. I must admit, the red sangria, margarita and tapped beers were excellent.. i simply ordered a Cubano Sandwich with was pretty good.. The staff was attentive and friendly, the only downfall was the Mojito..Overall, i good experience. read more

The atmosphere was amazing! We waited about 30 minutes to be seated with a reservation, but it was pretty busy so I can't complain too much. Our waiter was prompt, very informative when we inquired of using a Groupon - he did not judge or treat us any different. Our drinks came out a few minutes later (strong, but amazing), followed by our tapas. The music and 7-birthdays that happened that night were a bit much, making it hard for conversation, however we still had a great time. When our food came out, it was fresh, hot, and full of flavor. The only thing that threw me off was the flan. For $6, I expected a nice slice of it but instead got what I'm pretty sure came out of a Goya container (it tasted like it too because this happened at another restaurant). Other than that, our experience was great and we will be going back soon! read more

Cleanliness is the bare minimum for any establishment. The final bill came to $245, including an automatic $34 gratuity at the bar. Considering the service we received, this felt completely undeserved. There was no acknowledgment of the forgotten order and no attempt to make things right. As a final note, be cautious if you're wearing delicate or expensive clothing. The bar counter area has rough edges, and one of my friend's jerseys was snagged while we were sitting there. This was my first time here, and it will absolutely be my last. Between the poor service, mediocre food, lack of cleanliness, and high prices, I cannot recommend this place to anyone.

The small raviolis just can't swim in my pot! The older gentleman behind the counter asks if he can help me. I ask him to open the box and actually show me the larger ravioli. Oh baby, they are large and in charge. Why I walked out with one box still boggles my mind because I should have bought 3. I'm not in the area too often and the extra boxes would have carried me through the winter. I hand over my cash and the gentleman says God Bless to me. I'm not getting blessings on Long Island! We placed our orders and I'm not gonna lie I came in thinking the food was gonna be eh but I was blown away by the flavors. For drinks we ordered a spicy sunset, pretty young thing and cokes. For food we ordered the Cuban sandwich with parmesan fries, butter chicken wings, butter chicken macaroni and cheese, steak nachos grande, butter chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries and mom's butter chicken platter. This was a wonderful Spanish and Indian style combination of flavors. Definitely my first time having this type of food and wow what a mind blowing experience. Not one person in the table complained or had anything negative to say about their food. We all tried each other's food and each bite we exchanged to try was delicious and better than the last . The Cuban was delicious but the parmesan fries stole the show from that meal it was paired so lovely who would've thought those flavors would've mixed nicely. The buttery chicken wings oh my God dripping with goodness each bite was legit finger licking good lol. The butter chicken macaroni very very delicious. Had a nice cheese pull and a good balance could not stop eating it. The steak nachos were delicious I wish It had a little more meat, but it was not bad. The butter chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries also delicious and the fries were cooked so nicely that it was crispy and soft at the same time per bite. The mom's butter chicken platter was delicious they gave the right amount of sauce, the pita bread was delicious and soft, the salad that it was paired with was good too the rice was decently portioned. Everything was definitely tasty. Not one complaint of any of the meals. We did not wait long for the food. Bathrooms were nice and clean. I want to come back to try more things in the menu that's how good the food was and our group agreed to also come back with us. This spot is definitely a place to try. They have a beautiful quote right near the bar that really spoke to us, especially during these times it said "you are exactly where you need to be." It makes you stop for a second and really take it in and just live in the moment ... especially living in New York, where you have to be always go go go fast fast fast. Let's start with the Quarter Chicken Combo, a tantalizing offering that comes with two sides and a beverage of your choice. The star of the sides was undoubtedly the Arroz moro. This delightful combination of rice and beans brought a burst of deliciousness to the plate, leaving me wanting more. The flavorful blend was a true highlight that deserves a standing ovation. Moving on to the plantains, Yica with Onions, and potato salad, these sides were a mixed bag of satisfaction. On certain occasions, the potato salad proved to be a tasty addition, showcasing its potential. However, the attention to detail and consistency seemed to fluctuate depending on the day and the chef in the kitchen. While special orders were occasionally fulfilled, it became apparent that it was a hit-or-miss situation. Let's talk about the empanadas. The Chicken empanadas and the spinach and cheese empanadas were a mixed bag of surprises. Sometimes they hit the mark, delivering a flavorful bite, while other times they missed, leaving me craving for that perfect balance of flavors. I really do not like giving bad reviews, this place does not inform you of gratuity. Service is substandard and the food takes a really long time to come out. The Mangú was so dry it went down like sand. But the manager didn't remove it from the bill, she removed the cheapest item instead. A plate of pernil costs $20!!!!! SMDH Your best bet is to go a few doors down to Brisas Del Caribe and get excellent food and service for a fraction of the cost! I can assure the 18% gratuity was on ONE small hidden sign and not on the menu or explained by the hostess as it should've been. As well as Melissa P mentioned that different dishes were offered and that isn't true at all. Our waiter took so long to get to us in a 20 X 14 restaurant my 14yr old child had to pick on the plate until my food came in where I was able to share my dry and bland $20 pernil with him. We had just came out of church and were all starving. Anyways lesson learned and I advise anyone entertaining this place to learn from my mistakes. had a reservation, was seated immediately. atmosphere was awesome. lots of people but not over crowed. salsa was playing at a nice volume, not loud. Waiter was very good. got there for happy hour so the waiter loaded us with drinks. had the pastelon for appetizer. yum yum was awesome. had mango ribs with coconut rice. The coconut rice was so good, that I place an order to go as well. it was a bit small but comfy. I Cant wait to return. had a great time. read more

Restaurant is nice but too many ghetto asses going in there and they need to make the restaurant bigger expand it to allow more people uncomfortable eating environment not for me. read more
