Came here with a group of 5 on a Friday night. We live close so we walked. We didn't have a problem getting a table. Tons of vegan and vegetarian options as you would imagine on an Indian restaurant. We order the somosas which is one of the best I've had in a while. Also ordered vegetable curry. It was good. I had Biryani. Very good. Came with 2 sauces. Had the garlic naan. Very good also. On a cold rainy night night downtown, stopped here for dinner and absolutely loved it. Krishna was our server and made us feel welcome from the beginning. The drinks were a great start, with a Masala Mule and then a delicious smoked Old Fashioned, which was one of the best i've had. The food came out quickly and was delicious. The Goat Roghan was perfectly prepared and the Lamb Saag had the ideal degree of spice. We rounded out the meal with some vegtable samosas and garlic naan, which were great compliments. Came to visit after hearing a lot of reviews from friends, and they were absolutely right about this place. The ambience is indescribable and each dish was phenomenal. I wish I lived a lot closer to Columbus downtown because I would be a regular weekly customer. I must say it is the best Indian restaurant I have dined at in since we moved from Newyork, this is on top of my list for fine dinning restaurants and I wish I could give an extra star for the service they have provided. I've been here twice, both for restaurant week, and then once more on a non-restaurant week occasion. All three times I've experienced pretty terrible service. This place appears to be either severely under staffed or with inattentive staff. The first time we came, it took us - I kid you not - 2.5 hours from start to finish. Specifically, we didn't see food for an hour from when we placed our orders. The trend continued at each visit we made. The one time we went during a non restaurant week, there was virtually no one else in the restaurant and the food still took at least 30-45 minutes to come out. Food itself is pretty decent. We went for lunch at noon on a Sunday. Their Website said they open at 11 AM. We got there about noon and the doors were locked. A guy was sweeping the floors and signed that they'd open in 10 min. Fifteen minutes passed and finally some guy showed up and we finally got in the restaurant at 12:30 PM. Half the menu was unavailable. We ordered the food and it was terrible. Completely bland - absolutely no spices in anything!! The bread I ordered (bhatura) is supposed to be puffy and soft - but one I got was fully flat and hard (see pics). The restaurant was disorganized and been hardly cleaned from the night before. I have been to a lot of Indian restaurants in my time - this is by far one of the worst experiences ever. I went to The Haveli Bistro to have dinner with my friends on Friday. We picked this place after much deliberation. My friend comes here regularly during weekdays with her colleagues and suggested that we go here. This place is a hidden gem and the ambience blew us away. We picked a good spot and ordered drinks. The waiter was very friendly and resourceful. Starters were delicious and were a good portion for each one of us. We ordered the chicken lollipops and lamb chops starters. I would highly recommend the chicken 65 starter to have with drinks. For main course again our waiter suggested the jalapeño cheese naan and a few other ones we liked. The picnate naan was simply the best I've ever had and definitely keep going back for it. Lots of young crowd around kept the vibe really going. Don't forget to ask for desserts! We had the fried ice cream and I'm convinced this is the only kind of ice cream I ever want. Overall, we had a reaaaally good night out and would recommend this for a chill fine dine and hang out hybrid vibe. read more

Kind of a cluster. Staff is a bit clueless. Don't think these people are used to working in restaurants. I am giving 3 stars because the food was good, they don't shy away from Indian spice, and decor is gorgeous. They spared no expense on furniture and the upstairs room is great with view, large windows. But, they better get their act together on the service side. Serving utensils were missing from a dishes on the buffet and server seemed baffled as to how to remedy the situation. Also, there was confusion when we asked for knives. Went here with 2 friends for restaurant week since it looked good and we love Indian food. I will NEVER come back here again. Beyond slow and no one knew how to run this place. It was so bad it was almost funny! Our poor waitress -- she was so nice but clearly overworked. While the decor was nice, the manager was a TOTAL jerk to his staff and even came over and made a snarky comment about our waitress in front of our waitress. Our order was taken at 6:15. 6:52 and two of us had drinks and my other friend still hadn't receive hers. I finally went up to the bar -- and I'm pretty sure the bar staff never worked as bartenders before. They were confused and one said the Bar didn't even make it. The other said it went to another table... Took us over two hours for a meal and it came out very piecemeal. Some of us Had food and drinks and some did not. The poor service vibe was palpable. Haveli Bistro is such a welcome addition to the downtown Columbus food scene and I cannot wait to visit again soon. Our group of 5 stopped here for dinner yesterday night and had the pleasure of trying a variety of Haveli's Indian dishes. We split the Chicken 65 ($10.95) as an appetizer, a pile of tender deep fried chicken tossed in a spicy yogurt chili sauce and topped with fresh green chilies. It was delicious, zesty and a great appetizer to share with friends. For the main course, most of our group opted for the Chicken Chettinad ($14.95), a South Indian inspired curry dish packed with red chilies, onion, garlic, coconut, turmeric and yogurt. It was one of the best and most authentic Indian dish I've had in Columbus....oh and spicy as all get out. I was sweating, sniffling and panting and I don't think I could have been happier. Our table also opted for an assortment Naan bread to pair with the curries (butter, garlic & cheesy jalapeno all ~$4) and the clear winner was the cheesy jalapeno...rich, spicy and crispy. In terms of price, the meal did land on the pricier side of the dinner spectrum but was well worth the cost based on the quality and depth of food we were served. As far as service goes, it was interesting but overall quiet satisfactory, as both serving staff members we encountered were a little unfamiliar with the dishes and drinks on the menu but were very attentive and friendly. The food came out within 20 minutes, which was really impressive considering the complexity of our dishes and the amount of food we ordered. We had a thoroughly disappointing experience with Haveli Bistro last night. We were craving Indian food, and while we normally turn to Indian Oven as our go-to, we figured we'd give Haveli a shot instead, based on the quality of the food as expressed in a number of Yelp reviews. Since we were doing take-out, we weren't as concerned about the stated service issues, but that turned out to be a mistake... We went with lamb kurma and chicken maharani for entrees, and also got some butter naan and a mango lassi to split, and two orders of kheer for dessert. The confirmation said it would be ready in an hour, but it was actually ready when we arrived in forty minutes. When we got home, we immediately noticed a problem. Written on the top of the lamb kurma container was a note saying that they were out of lamb, so they replaced it with goat. Needless to say, lamb and goat are not at all the same, and it's not what my girlfriend ordered. We didn't receive any notification via phone, text, email, or in-person upon pick-up, so it was simply a disappointing surprise. Also of surprise, however, is that the dish didn't include raisins or cashews, and instead of being "tender lamb slow cooked in a mildly spiced cream sauce with cashews and raisins," it was actually goat cooked in a very spicy sauce, full-stop. My girlfriend has a high spice tolerance, but for her the dish was very spicy. I have far lower spice tolerance, and I was also completely disappointed with my chicken maharani. The description on Haveli's menu lists it as "boneless chicken cooked in yellow curry sauce with spinach, butter and fresh herbs." Sounds creamy and decadent, right? I actually had the wherewithal to add a note saying "mild spice level, please" just in case it was a little on the hot side. Apparently that note didn't matter, because it was just as spicy as my girlfriend's dish. It also did not look like yellow curry, but was closer to being red -- it was darker than the kurma. It was too spicy for me to eat more than half of the entree. The mango lassi was quite bland -- more tart than sweet -- and while I enjoyed the kheer (my girlfriend didn't), and the naan was fine, that was certainly not enough to redeem a disappointing experience. To top it all off the cost was $75 -- not the most expensive Indian food, but still a lot of money for dishes that were not at all how they were described, and arguably not what we even ordered. I don't write a lot of negative reviews, but there's just no way to say anything positive about Haveli Bistro, particularly when there are other quality Indian restaurants like Rooh and Indian Oven a reasonably short distance away. read more

I think I just found the new best Indian restaurant in Columbus. If the other dishes are as good as what I ate last night, this will now be my go-to Indian restaurant in Columbus (replacing AAB after about seven years). To be honest, this is the first time in a long time that I've had Indian in the US where I wasn't reminded how much better it is in other countries (typically on the bland side in the US). The ambiance was nice. The prices were comparable to, or cheaper than, AAB. The location is great. The service was very attentive, although my server seemed to know nothing about Indian food in general, or their menu in particular. This is my third time going to Haveli in the past week, and I have been consistently impressed each time. So far I've only had the buffet, an appetizer, and a cocktail, but each element has stood on its own in such a way that I feel comfortable passing positive judgment on the general restaurant. First, the buffet. They have a changing buffet menu (unsure if it's rotating or is different each time), and each offering has been delicious. The buffet is $12.95, with 14 different dishes ranging from appetizers to entrees to desserts. Some of my personal favorites have been the ginger chicken, chili potatoes, mushroom chicken, chicken biryani, black lentil curry, and tandoori chicken. Haveli offers multiple unique Indo-Chinese dishes, and the buffet intersperses them with the mainstays like saag paneer to great effect. I admittedly haven't ventured out to extensively in Columbus's smaller Indian cuisine, but the restaurants I've frequented (Aab, Himalayan Grill, Dosa Corner) haven't offered anything similar to the flavor palette displayed here. On top of this, the kitchen doesn't hold punches when it comes to spicing the buffet, which is a blessing when compared to Aab's more lackluster offerings. Everything tasted flavorful and delicious, and the waitstaff was dutiful in refilling the containers despite the large amount of people milling through the line. Second, the appetizers. Because I haven't gone to dinner here yet, I haven't gotten to try most of the appetizers, but they were kind enough to let me order the Gobi Manchurian when I went in during Happy Hour (when I went they hadn't ironed out a Happy Hour specific menu, but said it would be finished up very soon). This is the only other place in Columbus outside of Himalayan Grill that I know of who has the cauliflower dish. It was decidedly different from HG, but similarly delicious. My only gripe was that the appetizer portion was a bit pricy for what I got and I'd love it if they offered this as an entree at a similar price point. The other appetizers I've tried through the buffet (chili potatoes and a few others I can't remember) were also very very good. Third, Happy Hour/Cocktails. They offer half off cocktails from 4-6pm on the weekdays, and it's a great deal for what you get! I tried the Bollywood Bourbon Smash and it was incredible! The liquor wasn't overpowering but you could just taste it, and the flavors intermingled perfectly with the fresh fruit. The bartender/manager who was working had created the cocktail list himself and it was fantastic. I really look forward to coming by after work and trying the other cocktails. A few things of note that are nitpicky: -The rice in the buffet seems to get a bit over cooked and some kernels got very crunchy. -Mentioned above, a bigger portion of the Gobi Manchurian for the price it's listed as would be wonderful! -The system for cashing out customers in the upstairs seems to be a bit chaotic and probably needs some ironing out for the lunch rush. There was a card mixup but it was fixed after a few minutes, but it seems like they might need to have another station to be used for the buffet. Overall, I am so excited to have a new Indian restaurant so close to my work, with a great lunch buffet (and lunch specials but I have not tried them as of this review) and a promising Happy Hour. read more

I went to Haveli for the first time with family, and it was really quite good! I haven't found an indian spot that I love, and I can see the restaurant becoming a staple. Some of the features that I like is the very nicely designed interior (would be a great spot to have a party), lots of natural light during the daytime, and a nice twist to their cocktails. For appetizers, we had ordered vegetable samosa and the drums of heaven. The drums of haven were very good, but the vegetable samosa was a bit burnt (since it was visually burnt, the chef should have made another batch). For dinner we had the chicken biryani, chicken tikka masala, and the paneer tikka with the jalapeno cheese naan. Everything was made perfect, but the jalapeno cheese naan was out of this world! I gave Haveli 4/5 stars since this was my first visit and I think that there was some carelessness in the way the samosas were made, but I intend to update my review after future visits! read more

Haveli Bistro just opened downtown, so naturally I popped by with a friend to check them out. It's worth noting that from the standpoint of decor, Haveli isn't your typical Columbus Indian restaurant. It's definitely glammed up, in keeping with the location and the (presumably) business clientele they're after. That, and the electronic dance music that was blaring from the stereo system. We were there for the buffet, which I admit isn't the best way to judge a restaurant's culinary offerings. That being said, the buffet was decent - plenty of options, albeit heavy on different types of chicken. It's definitely not the most noteworthy Indian food I've had in Columbus, but judging the number of fellow diners of Indian descent, overall a pretty solid newcomer to the Indian food scene in Columbus, and in a location without very many of the type. read more

They execute on most everything well. We started with veg. samosa, which were good, but nothing special. We moved onto their chicken maharaja, a curry dish with other spices. We also got their chicken tikka masala, both spice level medium. The spice was definitely there but hardly overwhelming. I like the space, the staff was very nice, and the prices are about what I'd expect for a restaurant in downtown. The only thing that went wrong was made right really well. I found a small hair in my samosa, and the waitress was so apologetic / genuinely horrified. She insisted on giving us each a free mango lassi, which were also very good.
