My husband and I tried this boba spot for the first time a few days ago. We always passed by the boba shop and last week, when we passed by again, I asked him to turn the car around so we can finally try Hay Tea. There's tables and chairs inside and a pretty extensive menu. There's also snacks that you can order! You can order in the front or on the machine on the side. We decided to use the kiosk machine to order. My husband ordered a Mango Yakult drink with boba. I ordered their Mango Dreamer with boba. Sadly, we both didn't like our drinks and didn't end up finishing it. My husband said the drinks tasted too artificial for him. I felt like my drink was ok but it wasn't something that I was excited to finish drinking. Probably won't be coming back here. I don't know why but it reminds me of a Quickly. read more

I came about 20 minute before the store was closing one night. The staff were incredibly nice and welcoming, but the one star goes to the drinks my friend and I got. I ordered the Hong Kong milk tea and it was horrible. It seemed like it was just plain evaporated milk with some brown milk tea coloring - tasted like dirty sink water. Wanted some boba after seeing a movie in the area and noticed this spot nearby. For some reason, ordering off of the touch screens was a little complicated and it took longer than it should have; it was both highly sensitive and not sensitive at all to touch at the exact time! But we got our drinks and popcorn and all were pleasantly surprised. For some reason, we didn't have high expectations but everything was pretty tasty. I won't be listing this spot as a top boba favorite, but if I'm ever in the area again I'd stop by no hesitation. Never had purple rice in a drink before but quickly saw that many drinks came with this, so wanted to give it a shot. 2/3 drinks ordered had this and we didn't mind it and it grew on us as a topping. My first time trying Hay Tea and I was impressed!⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ I ordered the Happy Family which is one of their newer drinks. I chose the milk tea base (you can also choose a coconut milk base) and it came with a bunch of toppings. The drink came with Hay Tea's Signature Dragon Pearls, Boba, Purple Rice, Fresh Taro, and Grass Jelly. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ I don't know what dragon pearls are and this was my first time trying it but I enjoyed it! I had my doubts about this place at first, but the happy family duo had made this one of my favorite milk tea joints in the bay!!! The unique popping barley and purple rice I've only found here has such interesting texture. It made each sip fun! All the topping in the happy family drink matched perfectly with each other. Even though the drink requires a spoon at the end, every sip I had was never boring! And extra toppings at the end is a good thing in my opinion!! One of my favorite drinks whenever I get boba anywhere is the mango sago, I was super excited to get it from here as it contained coconut milk which I have never seen. When I got it the sago (little white balls) was rubbery. I knew it was bad because when I spat it out, the sago bounced all over the ground. Sago is not suppose to be rubbery it's suppose to be chewy. After seeing how the sago was basically under cooked I went back to asked if was suppose to be this rubbery they said they were going to go into the back and try it. They came back and said it was fine. I dont know what sago they had in the back but mine was either not fully cooked before making the drink or they didn't bother checking if the sago was actually good or not. Since it was my first time there, I was looking at the menu while I ordered. I felt like I was being rushed to order. The service was super slow. There were three people working. The first person took my order then started making one of my drinks. The second person made my other drink. The third person made the food. I don't know why the first person stopped making one of the drinks halfway and went to the back, so the second person had to finish making the drink. At first, I asked the RUDE staff about the difference between H4 and H5; she ignored me. Since hubby was heading home from Alameda, I had hubby come here to get us a few drinks. We initially wanted Thai tea with boba but they said they don't have that. Then hubby ordered 1 classic boba milk tea and 1 classic boba milk tea add red beans. Both drinks were half sugar less ice. Honestly, the drinks were just okay. The tea flavor was very light and the red bean wasn't cooked all the way through. Usually, when I add red bean in my drink, the red bean is already sweetened but at this place, there was literally no sugar in the red bean. The long awaited Hay Tea - formerly a #Quickly (moved to Wash Manor) -- The owners have been refurbishing this space for close to a year - so local Bayfair Tea fans have been waiting for this soft opening Feb 27th 2020. Opening day included two days of specials/ some drink specials - 2 for 1 .99 cent Milk Teas and 1.99 fruit drinks -- The staff is new - All seem all FOB that gives you a nice authenic feel - unlike some of the Tea Houses in Castro Valley and Downtown San Leandro. I tried the drinks - fruit mixed - tasty - but over a half hour to serve -- and no real crowd -- Second visit - I tried the Ramon - no flavor - and over cooked - best part the hard boiled egg - no condiments were offered - I want back to the kitchen to ask for some - and as of last week no chop sticks were available -- Soup had no flavor (broth) and and noodles soggy mess. Hay tea, I thought about giving this place a try after my target run. The reviews were not that great I also wanted to give this place a 2 star but my boyfriend liked his drinks, and he rated it a 3. We ordered the mango yakault, pink lady, the dragonfruit with cheese foam and the milk tea with purple rice and red bean. Not crazy about the mango yakault, i thought that it would be a blended drink but it wasn't. The pink lady was pretty to look at and you can really taste the peach flavor in the drink. The dragonfruit with cheese foam was good but definitely tastes more of the tea flavor, i love love the salted cheese foam. A bit pricey with the cheese foam at 8.99 with no other toppings. We also had the popcorn chicken, it was very very good or I was just that hungry. Perfectly coated with a hint of garlic powder on the batter, i really enjoyed them. Nice clean location but rude unaccommodating staff. I've been here three times already. First time I played it safe and got a jasmine milk tea with regular boba. It was just okay, I've had much better. Second time I wanted the brown sugar boba drink but didn't realize its made with milk tea (that's my fault for not looking at the menu deeper) but they only have that particular drink in one size. I tried to pay for a bigger size but they said no. My third visit, I was confident that I'd make sure I read the menu correctly and asked questions so that I didn't order something I didn't want. I said "hi, I'd like to order a brown sugar boba drink just not with the milk tea, can I replace it with a plain milk base such as whole milk, soy or almond?" Went here on a whim with my partner and we picked two tea lattes after looking at photos on yelp lol. I got the strawberry tea latte and he got the mango tea latte. It was really good. If you like tea, most of the bottom will have a heavier tea base. The strawberry was mostly up top even when shaken. I guess like my drinks just sweet I suppose. Popcorn chicken: It was okay, though not my favorite compared to other places. It's definitely made with dark meat, which is not my personal preference, and the breading seemed to have a large amount of garlic powder in it. Nice generous portion size though. I love love love this place!! This is my go-to for fast food. (I usually call it in when I'm 10 min away) I usually get their popcorn chicken or fried tofu. And of course a boba tea! Ima Chai Tea girl made with regular sweetness and light boba. Every time I go the young workers are always kind. The place is always clean. Fruit teas that are hand made daily, a good snack menu with offerings like baked rice plates, garlic spare ribs and other yummy dishes. I went with the chicken wings and tried 2 fruit teas and wow.... The fruit tea latte has a creamy and milky burst of flavor and comes with delicious fresh topping.
