They really do have an excellent beer list, and reasonable food, but the service I received was disastrous. At ~3:35PM on Friday May 13th, my guest and I were told by Alec the bartender that we couldn't order food, but noticed that other parties around us were eating. When we asked the bartender about this, he repeated back to us in an affected "retard voice" along with "sign language fingers" that the kitchen was closed. UNACCEPTABLE. read more

Second time here several months apart and felt the same way - delicious food and good drinks. Menu is limited but what they have they do well. We had the wings, perfect amount sweet and spicy, mac and cheese and a burger, all were very tasty. Both of us had the happy hour wine which were nice choices. Excellent Mexican cabbage salad dish with added avocado. Excellent jalapeño cornbread and excellent coffee. Very nice interior and is comfortable and wasn't too loud. I even had a chance to do some work afterwards without any pressure. I will be back. I would recommend this place to anyone. read more

Beer selection is excellent as they have beers I haven't found elsewhere. The bartenders at this place left me with a sour taste in my mouth though, twice. They get lots of tourists so they're patience is thin--they haven't learned to keep their manners when pressure's on. When they moved to my neighborhood I was excited for what they offer and hoping to be a regular. But if I want to get treated like sh@t, I'd rather go to a dive bar and not get my specialty $10-$14 beer. The crappy service will catch up to them on this quite, out-of-the way block. Haymaker Bar and Kitchen is great for sports watching and meeting some friends for a quick bite to eat. The place is brand new, with a bar area and a separate, semi-private table space in the back, but the setting is mostly for guys with big muscles or scruffy beards, or the after work crowd. The grilled cheese sandwich that comes with fries and slaw is massive, but it was only okay. Our bartender was super friendly and she was helpful and attentive, checking in from time to time. Went here with an out of town friend so we were meeting a bunch of people and there was plenty of space to mingle and have fun. Great, somewhat chill, gastropub. Especially great because there aren't a ton of options that tasty but chill in that part of Chelsea. read more

My friends and I came here Saturday evening after the Knick game. It's a lot less crowded than the bars closer to MSG. Like another reviewer noted, there is definitely a hipster feel. I rounded up a star for its more a 3.5 star place. When we got there, we waited for a few minutes for someone to seat us at one of the tables. When no one came, we decided to seat ourselves. A couple minutes later a waitress came by to serve us but she was not the friendliest. Looking at the menu, the beer and spirit list is extensive, but not everything is available where they mark the menu item with a sad face. About 80% was available and it's a good selection. I tried a tequila cocktail and thought it was very good. My friends beer was good,but i don't recall what it was. My table also had the bar nuts and Haymaker burger. They were good but pricey. There were a few TVs up but I wouldn't come here to watch a game. The atmosphere here is more subdued than you'd expect on a weekend evening. I'm not sure I'd comeback if in the area. read more

Went on Saturday afternoon with my wife. Liked so much came back next day with our son. Great beer list, friendly staff, and good music. They only have brunch menu available until 4:15. We are not big brunch fans, but we ordered the Southern Fried Chicken w/gravy and a Burger; both were phenomenal. Wings after 4:15 were really good. They said the menu was going to have some changes, hopefully they add some regular dishes to the brunch selection. Came here before a show at MSG (PERFECT location in walking distance - 5 min walk to msg) the hostess is so nice!! The GM Tristan happened to be walking from table to table and we talked to him for a bit. Very professional and very personable! Made our experience that much better! The food was AMAZING serious kudos to the chef!!!! The drinks even better!!!! the waitress we had Lou was superb!!! So observant and on top of the ball! She never even let our water jug get low! Very trendy looking bar with nice furniture. Good beer selection and they have rotating taps so would always be something different. I had the kale and beet salad and mac and cheese, which were both OK. My boyfriend had the shepherd's pie which was made with sweet potatoes and goat and he said it was delicious. Our experience was a little tainted because the waitress snapped at us when we walked in and asked if it was ok to seat ourselves.. it wasn't clear to us. She at the time was the only one working so maybe was overwhelmed and I think she felt bad and was nice after, but it kind of set a bad tone off the hop! Went here with my friends before a Phish concert and there were empty tables for 90 mins before people were seated, even though they were allegedly "all full." When we asked if we could get a table we were told to "move on" no joke. While we finished our drinks the staff told us to move to another spot twice. I will never go to this place again. read more
