I came here to celebrate a friend's birthday. We made reservations for 2pm, upon arrival they told us that they only had outdoor seating, because our table wasn't ready yet. I let them know we would wait for a table inside. We waited 45 mins to get seated, which is ridiculous for having had reservations for standard seating. We ordered several things Mimosa Flight, Fried Green Tomatoes, Crab Dip, and The Cowgirl Dinner. Everything tasted really good and fresh. The Cowgirl Dinner which is their special stood out the most. It comes with a 5oz steak, Fries and Caesar Salad. The steak was tender and flavorful and the fries were delicious. The Cowgirl Dinner comes with a Lemon Drop Martini and I have to say, that is one of the best Lemon Drops I have had. Jennifer was our waitress and she was very helpful. We went to celebrate Women's month with their Cowgirl Dinner-- steak, fries, salad & choice of lemon drop or dirty martinis for only $30! Steak was cooked perfectly! Fries were delicious and crispy. Salad was okay... drinks were exceptional & STRONG (we tried their Bluebonnet 75, espresso martini, a spicy jalapeño something, the mimosa flight & the drinks that came with the special). Unfortunately, when we arrived 10 minutes later, we were told they couldn't seat us even though the restaurant appeared nearly empty at the time. Haywire is a trendy spot in Uptown Dallas that our hosts took us to. It's a cool and classy environment with a slight Western theme. The service is fast and friendly. As for food, there were some standouts and letdowns. We started with the mini elk tacos. They were good, but nothing that is going to leave you drooling for more. The burrata and tomato dish was next, which was about what you'd expect but a tad lacking on the amount of burrata and the tomatoes might not have been quite ripe as I've never had such trouble getting a fork through a tomato as this. For mains, I opted for the prime rib and chimchurri rice. Neither held up well. The rice was interesting, but a little bland. The prime rib was well below average. It was borderline cold upon arrival with very little seasoning/crust to speak of. The only thing to help it have some flavor were the horseradish and their homemade steak sauce (which was fantastic). Luckily, things ended on a high note. The whiskey bread pudding was solid and everyone raved about it, but I'm going to tell you that if you visit... get the Route 66 Pecan Pie. It is one of the best desserts I've ever had and while I do love pecan pie (yes, there is a bias), even those who don't in our group spoke highly of how buttery and rich it was. They validate the parking, but even after following the steps, we still had to push the button for the operator to let us out. The place is massive. They have several seating areas as well as seating at the spacious bar. We started with the chips and queso. The queso was delicious. My wife ordered the chicken fried chicken and I ordered the Western burger. Both had great flavor. The portion sizes matched the price. I started with a delicious Guava Jalapeno Margarita. Highly recommend as it was very refreshing in the hot summer weather. Foodwise, tried the following: Mini Elk Tacos - very tasty, but I would never be able to tell it was elk if the menu didn't say it was. The other flavors covered the elk too much making it a bit disappointing. Barbacoa Chilaquiles - the absolute worst chilaquiles my guy and I have ever had in our lives. Extremely soggy chips, which is unfortunate because the barbacoa was delicious. We actually ended up sending it back because it was too gross to eat (note: this is definitely not how chilaquiles should be despite what the kitchen staff says). I went here a couple weeks ago for a dinner and adored the ambience of this place! As someone who is not originally from Texas, I loved the elevated, southern feel to this place. We ordered the queso blanco with a couple glasses of prosecco. The dip was good, but would definitely like to try something else the next time we return. I did not feel like there was anything special that separated this dip from other places we had tried previously. For our main courses we ordered the 10 oz charbroiled filet and the barbacoa stroganoff. Both were divine choices. I was quite skeptical about the stroganoff and how the barbacoa would pair, but the way the dish was prepared had me surprised. I would order this again. Plus, it made for a delicious leftover :') the filet was quite lovely as the meat practically dissolved in your mouth. Not too chewy, and seasoned just how we wanted. The service was wonderful, too. Our waitress knew we were celebrating a special occasion, and provided a sweet treat on the house! Made fresh and in house, the vanilla bean cheesecake was delicious. read more

Disappointed with our recent visit to Haywire. We had a party of 10 and the service was simply not there. My cheeseburger came out cold, and my brother's fish was completely bland. He asked for salt and pepper multiple times and didn't receive it until after dessert was served. His salad also arrived without any dressing. The restaurant was not busy, so there was no excuse for the lack of attentiveness. Our servers showed no sense of urgency throughout the entire meal. For a restaurant of Haywire's reputation, this was a major letdown. Hopefully just an off-day, but hard to recommend based on this experience. read more

I had asked for a booth & wanted to sit in front room. The hostess said no a problem. She handed us off to a younger hostess and she took us to a table. I told her I had requested a booth. In the front room only 3 tables were occupied. I pointed out the booth and she said that's for party of 6. However, we could have the 1/2 table/booth. Made absolutely no sense because that was for a party of 6 as well. I made this comment & she just stared at me without saying a word. I didn't want to seem difficult and took the table as she just walked away. Kev was confused as we were. No good communication skills. It was an awkward encounter. The restaurant wasn't busy at all & never was whole time there. Kev wasn't sure why she didn't move us a requested & was puzzled himself. However i apologized to him & explained I wasn't trying to be difficult, but prefer booth sitting and most times we will wait for one. We left at 1:45p and restaurant was no busier than when we arrived. Reservation/Booth or not! I guess saying all of this, your front staff need to have more people skills when dealing with your customers. They are the face and first point of contact.
