Always fresh, best fries ive had at any hot chicken spot across the board by FAR, people are always extremely nice and proud to serve legitimate cook to order food - owner is a great dude as well, you can tell he really cares and wants you to have a good experience. The one time I got not so fresh fries, they replaced them with an entire basket of fresh ones for free. The wife and I both love Dave's Hot Chicken, and decided to give HCK a try. What a mistake. The Chicken Fingers were wet, slimy and covered in some soy-based sauce (we ordered them in "base" hot sauce). The "base" sauce wasn't hot at all. We got sauces on the side of various heats. Their Buffalo sauce was passable for a McDonalds, but disappointing for a specialty Hot Chicken restaurant. We also got some boneless wings, plain, with the intention of dipping into the sauces. Been wanting to try this place and Dave's Hot Chicken. Dave's was closer to where I was, but they were packed so I came here instead. I think overall it was like 3.5 to 3.75 stars. I think the food was good, but I had some issues with service/product availability. Food: We ordered the #2 combo with 2 fingers, fries, and a drink to go. Since it was to go and we had a 10 min or so drive, I'm ok with some crispiness being gone. The chicken I thought was good. I had the Afterburner and my wife had the base. I liked the sweetness with a bit of the heat. I would try the next step up heat-wise next time. The chicken could have been crispier, but as I said, I'll chalk it up to the drive. The fries were very good. Nice and crispy. The dipping sauce was good, but nothing special. My biggest complaint was the fountain drinks. I went to fill them once my order was ready and of the 8-10 dispensers, only 3 did NOT have stickers on them which indicated they weren't working. It's lunchtime on a Monday. How do you not have your fountain drinks working? I got the lemonade...it was all water, no flavor. I'm guessing the fountain drink dispenser isn't working at all. Service: I went up to the counter and gave my order and the girl asked me what type of sauce. I said out loud that I couldn't remember the sauces and proceeded to try to find them on the menu. The girl didn't bother to tell me what they were or even point them out on the menu which led to things taking longer as I scanned the menu. The other annoying thing was she didn't bother to tell me basically none of the fountain drinks were working. I would have just ordered the food and no drinks or gotten a can of something from the fridge if I had known the status of the fountain drinks. The guy behind the counter was extremely rude. When asked spice level, i said mild, and he looked at us as if i was stupid, but then i realized they had their own sauces. Best chicken place around right now. I went to their grand opening and got wings and the Afterburner sauce, and it was literally to die for. The counter staff was so friendly and made sure every customer was cared for, and the service was quick. I did take out, and wish I hadn't because I wanted to order more! I came back a few days later and got the loaded mac and cheese, and I don't think I'll ever get mac from anywhere else ever again. I brought some friends and we got a table, and the restaurant area itself is super cool. There's like a big street-style mural on one wall and a tall shelf full of tasty looking hot sauces, and it's atmosphere is very modern and "cool". Amherst needed a place like this! Place just opened today and I happened to be driving by, figured I'd check it out. Got the #1 combo, angry sauce on the sandwich. Phenomenal. Crispy fried and dipped in the sauce, and the chicken inside was moist and delicious. Nice potato roll was hearty enough to hold everything together. Got a side of cheese sauce for my fries, which were crinkle cut and seasoned, and man they were fantastic. That cheese sauce is straight cash $. Where to begin. My friend took me to this restaurant after seeing some amazing reviews online. The ambiance is nice the staff is friendly the only thing that ruin my experience is a big mistake that the food runner did. He gave our food to a couple in another table. When the couple realized the mistake the server took the food out their table and unfortunately brought it straight to us if you are in the restaurant business you know thats a NO NO the server was apologetic and promised us that food was not touched but the lady in the other table was already eating my French fries before the retrieve the plates he ask me if everything was okay and I told him that I dint feel comfortable if it was possible get a new fresh meal he said Yes took my plate went back to the kitchen and came back quick with another plate to be honet the chicken look like he just flip it over and the same broken French fries were in the plate.
