    $25 one-hour, full body massage
    Shauna F.

What to expect with a $25/hr full body massage: clothes on.. firm pressure massage of head, face, neck, shoulders, hands, arms, feet, legs, back, butt... massage beds are in an open room divided by curtains so you may hear (like I did) snoring and moaning of other people... massuers talk to one another...AND EXPECT TO PAY AT LEAST $10-$15 TIP PER MASSAGE. I've gone here 5 times so far and will continue to return. Can't beat that deal

Basic, clean rooms. No frills here whatsoever!!

Some might think that a full-body massage in a bustling Asian shopping grocery store is sketchy or shady at best. True. However, the dairy aisle is quite peaceful, and the orange cones on either end warn the other shoppers to steer clear. I kid! The reflexology massage studio IS located at Fubonn, but not in the grocery store. Health Spa's store front, with it's blinking neon lights, is just to the right of the front main entrance. Quick warning: the term "Spa" might be a misnomer, or cause irritated confusion to some who are expecting high-hospitality, uniformedly-dressed customer service in an aesthetically pleasing, zen-like ambience. "Health Spa" at Fubonn is not the aforementioned, but that is not what I was looking for this time. I was in need for a strong (some might say aggressive) reflexology, tension-busting, no-nonsense massage. This was definitely it, and at an unbelievable, guilty price of $20! At first I thought it was only going to be a foot massage for an hour, but it was a complete reflexology massage from head to toe! You are greeted in a terse yet friendly manner (I'm presumptously assuming it's from the language barrier) at the front and then led to a large room that is separated by several bamboo room dividers. Each clean and basic individual space has a comfy massage bed with clean linens (I came with a friend and called ahead, so there were two beds in our massage space). Ours had the (dis?)advantage of a giant flat screen tv on one wall, filling the whole studio's ears with Chinese pop and easy-listening music videos. It wasn't blaring, but it's by no means a quiet chant of Tibetan monk music. You stay clothed, except for your shoes and socks. After pushing up your pants to your knees you are instructed to lay back while your feet are soaking in warm water in a lined wooden bucket. The amazing head massage begins and tension begins to melt away. The reflexologist expertly moves from head to toe, kneading out knots and pressing specific target points. He also uses other strokes, including relieving stretches, karate-chop-like rhythms, and squeezing muscles. After the firm foot massage, you are flipped over and the relaxing process is repeated. The best parts of the massage for me was the head/scalp massage, shoulders, and lower back. Throughout the massage process I kept falling asleep, and when it was over, I felt lighter! They accept credit cards and cash. There is a $1 extra charge if you use a card. I didn't experience any pushy pricing quotes as other reviewers. I can easily see this being a weekly must-have, and cannot wait to go back!! My muscles and I highly recommend Health Spa.

Ask the Community - Health Spa

Did anyone else have to disrobe completely for a 90 minute combo massage? I've been to a number of reflexology places and this is the first time I've been asked to take ALL my clothes off...

Yes. I was wearing shorts and a tank and the "massage therapist" Sam, kept tugging my clothing down and eventually got me out of it before he sexually assaulted me. I reported it to the massage licensing board, as many other victims of Health Spa… Read more

Also known by a more visual description as oriental bar therapy, this bodywork is done with the therapist's body weight, holding onto bars (like ballet barres) anchored to the ceiling and using her feet to massage and release knots and muscle tension. I'm someone who has chronic knots and am constantly asking for more and more pressure- I've found Ashiatsu to be the most effective and lasting technique that really gets into the muscles. Karla is now practicing in a massage and bodywork consortium and the studio house is set back between two houses. The environment for her space is calming and respectful. She also has a personal deep connection with hot stone work and incorporates that into her 90 minute Ashiatsu massage. There's nothing quite so wonderful as having hot stones under your shoulder blades, relaxing into their warmth while Karla works her magic on the arm tendons we all overuse in terms of typing and, in my case, lots of knitting. Bodysong is the perfect name for her approach to wellness with massage and hot stone therapy. She works independently without much of a web presence right now. You'll want to reach out to her via phone or email, and cash is welcome for payment. She isn't part of a spa or anything else: her focus is holistic bodywork, and her passion for it is reflected in the experience of being in her care.
