I'm continually impressed with the care and candor that Dr Chen provides. My previous dentist kept trying to upsell me on something (nightguards, cleanings every 4 months, whitening, yearly X-rays, etc). My mouth was full of fillings by the time I left them. I never pushed back because I had premium insurance that just covered everything. But I had gone to Dr Chen for a 2nd opinion a couple years ago, and I never looked back. She always gives honest assessments, and never tries to push a treatment on me. I feel educated on the pros and cons of any particular treatment, frequency of visits, even the types of toothbrushes/toothpastes/floss products I use. Her office used to be a 5-min walk from my house. When she moved to Sunnyvale, I was a little bummed. But her care is worth the drive. read more

My initial experience started out as professional and courteous and the process was simple and straightforward and signing up to be a new client was a breeze. Unfortunately, reality hit, and I was treated like every other customer. (I really had high hopes since this was my first dentist after having moved back from outside the country). I found it highly inconvenient and bothersome to receive calls, after making my appointments, to shift to another time or if I could come earlier etc. It seemed to me that appointments were moved if someone else cancelled and after the third request to modify an existing appointment, I felt like a paycheck and did not feel valued anymore. My faith in this establishment continued to decline when I had a tooth that was filled twice by Chen continuing to come loose, allowing food stuff to go into my tooth and to make matters worse a painful growth on my gums as a result! I called and was directed to an oral surgeon because this Chen is just for general dentistry. My honest opinion is its great if you don't have a lot of tooth problems because they can accommodate you quickly but with issues like mines, seek another dentistry that is not general and specializes in a wider range of teeth-related issues to avoid the hassle of being sent elsewhere because it cannot be performed in-house. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Chen for many years. Dr Chen always give her expertise and attention to patients fully. She never try to oversell any service, procedure, etc. I like her conservative suggestion, and precise work. She'll do procedures such as cleaning, filing by herself... This was our first visit. I came because my sister recommended, & what an AMAZING dentist Dr Chen is!! My son is only 3 and she gave him all her attention and made him have a very enjoyable time. He describes his visit as very FUN and he absolutely loved her! She has a lot of patience, and is very caring with kids. I just want to let everyone know that Dr. Chen is not a periodontist as she is identified on her Yelp heading. I was (am) in need of a periodontist and made an appointment with her based on this mis-categorization. I just got back from the appointment. She told me she asked Yelp to change the heading, but they never did. When I made the appointment I specified it was for an acute gum problem, so I'm thinking that the receptionist could have let me know that was not her specialty, but I'll write it off to miscommunication, as her website does not claim any periodontal skills. I would like to add that, based on the reviews I read, I expected a warmer welcome, a little small talk, and maybe some dismay at the the misunderstanding, but there was none of that. The conversation with the receptionist amounted to "Are you so and so? Here fill this out." The conversation with Dr. Chen was equally lacking in warmth or amiability. She may be a good technician, but if you are looking for a reassuring chair-side manner, you might not find it here. read more

First let me say I'm one of those ppl that have an honest phobia of the dentist due to traumatic experiences. I've been coming randomly for years and always enjoyed having Dr.Chen work on my dental needs. However, recently I've stopped by and complained about tooth pain/ sensitivity. Dr. Chen started the process to fix the issue but it didn't turn out right. It was actually even worse than before! I stated to her it felt rushed and that she didn't want to help me or show the same customer service as her kind that I've watched personally. As no surprise that wasn't the case on her end. Days past from the visit, I'm asking to be seen as I can't bit down anymore. She then tells me "I believe it's best you go to a specialist who specializes in complicated restoration like this tooth". Why would you start something you knew from the start you couldn't accomplish? Even speaking to other dental offices trying to get appointments, due to her not wanting to even see what's going on. They themselves even question me why Dr. Chen didn't or couldn't fix what she started! If you want half as* work and to be walking around with a flamed up mouth this is the spot! I've been with Dr. Chen for a few years. The first time I went there, I really hadn't seen dentist forever. Dr. Chen took an x-ray and explained me in details about my teeth situation. Apparently they were pretty bad...so I did a deep cleaning... Dr. Chen made sure that I felt comfortable and not painful during the whole process. I remembered my teeth got really nice and clean afterwards. Unlike many other dentist's, Dr. Chen actually does the dental cleaning herself, and she always does a great job! There was one "emergency" case happened the other day, and I thought I really should write a review for her to show my appreciation :) I have some crown on my teeth for many years, and one of them fell off while I was enjoying my dinner on Monday. When the real tooth exposed outside, it was really sensitive. I could barely talk normally or even drink water. First thing in the morning when I woke up on Tuesday was to call Dr. Chen. Even though I know she's generally off on Tuesdays, I still called just in case, because I really don't know how I can survive another day with my broken tooth. Gladly she picked up the phone and agreed to take me in to fix my crown. It was done in no time, and now everything is back to normal, as if it never fell off. Totally saved my life! I saw her for the usual cleaning and xrays. She used the latest ultrasonic cleaning equipment and digital xray machine so it was much more comfortable than the old film days. I haven't been to the dentist in 8 years so things have changed! You can see your xrays immediately on a lcd screen from your chair! Very cool. I was in and out in a little over an hour. The doc and receptionist were both cool. She explained stuff in detail and answered all my questions. My old dentist is in New York. I'm a transplant from the east coast, so I did quite a bit of research before settling on a dentist (even tried out a few!). She is awesome. I appreciate that Dr. Chen didn't just go with the nonsensical, expensive procedure (my other dentist had recommended a root-canal, instead she just did a medicine treatment + filling and it worked out perfectly!). Dr. Chen and her assistant, Nancy are a "well oiled machine"! They are incredibly efficient in the way they work together. Not a moment was wasted as they did cleaning, x-rays and a filling, all of which were done to perfection! I love how she stayed with me during the entire appointment. I'm used to my dentist coming in and out of the office. Since Dr Chen does the teeth cleaning herself, I feel that she's doing a very thorough visual exam and she can evaluate your overall dental health (like brushing and flossing) in the most informed way. I'm relatively new to this office, but after only two visits for my annual check-up plus two perfectly done fillings, I'm a loyal patient (and fan!)
