Stopped by this place for a quick lunch with my friends after driving down from Sacramento. I saw that this place was rated extremely well and was down to try any place rated highly in unlikely places. That means the score actually had some weight to it. The interior was moderately decorated and was nice and natural feeling but nothing too crazy to speak about. It was a nice and casual establishment where you order first and then are seated by the servers. The line was long but didn't extend too far from the entrance, took about 15-20 minutes from end to ordering so it wasn't all that bad of a wait. The line moved fast as people frequently cycled in and out of the restaurant. I ordered the Ancho crusted steak with teppanyaki rice and rigatoni. Originally I was shooting for the carrots because they were prepped with chimichurri which I imagined would've paired well with the steak, but they were out (more on this later). The steak was subpar at best. Though it had a good cook on it, the end result was relatively dry and flavorless. The cut felt extremely cheap and did not feel like it was worth the $28 I paid for (after tax and tips). It definitely missed the mark for me and even though this place is not marketed as a steakhouse or anything of that matter, knowing what is a signature or popular item on the menu should have been a vital pieces of information to help me make a fair judgement on what I can expect from this restaurant. If you don't have that I would assume everything is popular enough to be fair game, if that's the case then I hope everything else isn't as lackluster. Continuing on the chimichurri point, I managed to wave down a staff member and acknowledged that although they didn't have anymore of the carrot sides, I hoped that they would still have some of the chimichurri available. I understand that it was pretty slammed but apparently they get busier according to my friends so I assumed this level of operation was standard to them. After about 10 minutes I still didn't get a follow up on even if they had any of the sauce left. I let the staff member that originally seated us know about my inquiry and she said she would also check. I really hoped that at the very least I would know whether I should finish my meal or not because I really did feel like it could have saved the dish. I ended up being one of the last ones to finish up on food after I stopped hoping for a follow up and ate the rest of my relatively depressing meal. Interestingly enough the avocado hummus paired nicely with the tri tip, do what you will with that information. Slim silver linings was that the teppanyaki fried rice was fairly decent, the sauce that topped it was like a spicy mayo with a slight sweetness to it that made the side stand out more than the tri tip. The rigatoni also outperformed the steak as the sauce tasted nice and fresh and gave me a perfect break between bites of beef. Overall, this place definitely underperformed according to my expectations. Perhaps it was purely because of the rush, but hearing that they are usually busier with their out-the-door lines, I expected much better quality in all aspects. I would love to return to try this place again and see if there is a difference but likely only if I have someone else that would want to come here specifically. read more

We finally tried Heirloom Restaurant after hearing so many amazing things, and it absolutely lived up to the hype. My husband ordered the Ribeye (California-raised Brandt Beef) with roasted carrots and the baby wedge salad, and I had the herb-roasted half chicken with a baby wedge salad and charred green beans. Everything tasted incredibly fresh and thoughtfully prepared. The staff was very friendly and welcoming, and we were pleasantly surprised by how quickly our food arrived, even though we went during lunchtime on a Tuesday. On top of that, the restaurant has a great ambiance: warm, inviting, and perfect for a relaxed meal. From the quality of the food to the service and atmosphere, the entire experience was amazing. Our friends know how much I enjoy writing reviews for Yelp and made us aware that heirloom was nominated on Yelps top 100 places to eat. We planned a double date and after hitting an escape room, we made our way over to Heirloom for some much needed calories! It is situated in a large shopping complex and there is plenty of parking. You may have a bit of a walk depending on the time or day. The line for the restaurant is pretty massive! Luckily the wive's of the group volunteered to wait while the guys went to sportmans warehouse. Score! It took about 30 minutes for our group to make it towards the front. We made our orders. Staff was polite. One thing I do not enjoy is the Tip screen before you even receive your service. It doesn't math for me. What if you get terrible service? Turns out the only service you receive is them bringing the food out. Drinks are your responsibility. No one comes to check on you or how the food or experience is. Now for the food. I went with the half chicken with pasta and sweet potatoes. My dish was excellent. 4 stars! My wife had the tri-tip with fried rice The meat was cold and bland. 0 stars My friend has the tri-tip salad. Also bland. He boxes it up to take home in hopes of jazzing it up. His spouse got the half chicken as well but with garlic noodles. That was good as well! The table got regular fries and sweet potato fries to share. Both had the potential to be great but were extremely cold. It's like they had a bunch of the most ordered apps cooked in large batches so they could just sling it out. The entire time no one came to check on us so we could make them aware of our issues. Not a place I would return to. The wait is long. The service is mid. Although it is a bit of a drive for me, since I live on the east side and all, the drive is a bit for me.....but for special occasion or even for like a simple lunch date with my gals, this is one spot that is also recommended. Came back for a 2nd visit--went for lunch this time. There was already a line 15 minutes after opening on a Saturday, but it went by quickly. Got the Spring Salad, Surf and Turf, Garlic Noodles, and Boneless Fried Chicken with fried rice and carrots as sides. I'm not a salad person but their salads are just amazing. Surf and turf and fried chicken were good; so were the sides. I wasn't a big fan of the garlic noodles--I should've stuck with the carbonara that I had the first time. For a Monday night after 8pm- the line was really long. My friend checked out the bar and we were able to secure two seats and skip the line. (Saved us a lot of time and we didn't order drinks) Since it was late- i opted for a salad thinking it would be lite, however my salad was filled with so much toppings. I had the Cashew Chicken Salad. I loved the presentation and the fact that the cauliflower croutons were around the salad, it allowed me balance my fork with some salad from the middle then swoop into cauliflower croutons. Friend and I were meeting in Fresno for lunch and chose this place based on the reviews. When we first pulled up and saw the line we were tempted to turn around and find another place. So glad we didn't. First, don't let the line scare you off; according to others I spoke with while waiting, this is the norm here. Secondly, it actually went pretty fast. I ordered the Ancho tri-tip with sweet potatoes and Moroccan-spiced cauliflower. Portions were generous and everything was very well prepared. We were visiting CA from out of state, primarily to see the national parks near Fresno. After our trip, this restaurant experience may rival the breathtaking views of Yosemite for most memorable part of the trip. This takes Farm to Table to a whole new level. We arrived and saw a very long line stretching out the door and across the whole parking lot. We were nervous that this would mean a visit was not in the cards, but we stuck it out. I was amazed at how quickly and efficiently the took orders in the line. You order all food at the counter and then are escorted to your seat by staff. We ended up ordering lots of food because there were so many appetizing options. Of our group of 6, nobody found anything that displeased them. Despite a very busy kitchen, all items were hot, fresh, crisp, and served with good appearance. If I ever return to Fresno, this is a must visit. The food at this place is absolutely wonderful! The open kitchen area truly showcases how everything is made fresh and plated with care and precision...all that and you just order at the counter! Awesome format, no extra waiting time, like waiting for the servers- you order, they seat you inside or outside, and your food is brought out to you. Fast line, extremely efficient ordering system, quick turnaround on food, and helpful and friendly staff. An update to my last review... place is nice and packed per usual. Always nice and clean. Staff were super nice and sweet. The food was amazing! We tried something different to explore more. We had the roasted chicken with the carbonara with two of our usual, surf n turf and fried rice. Of course ants on a log to finish with dessert. Last time we had the carbonara and wanted to give it another try per recommendation from the hostess. I have to say, drastic change and it was so good. Such a good pair and so glad we got it this time. The rest were devoured before I was able to take pictures. But this visit definitely satisfied our cravings and left with a very full belly.
