It was our first visit and we both like what we like on a pizza so almost never order what is on the menu as a rule. After all, pizza is all about the crust and sauce. We ordered 2 smalls. The crust, was nice and crispy like I like, but also equal to a decent frozen, nothing too special. My bf ordered sausage, salami and mushrooms which were very generous on the toppings. The sauce was very light. So light, that I couldn't really comment on flavor, because you could barely taste it with the generous toppings. It's like someone used a butter knife to spread a very thin layer. I'm more generous with butter on toast! I had a pizza with no sauce and olive oil instead with roasted garlic, Gorgonzola and anchovies. Very generous with the Gorgonzola, and garlic cloves but stingy on the anchovies. I love anchovies, so was a little bummed. We also shared the broccoli side which was prepared nicely and delicious! We had water only, and the bill was $70, $84 with tip. The service was friendly and ok, even though a couple who came after us, were waited on and served before us by the same waitress. The place is cute and I'm glad I went, BUT, I don't think we need to go back as there are plenty of other places locally that do really excellent pizzas. read more

My boyfriend and I are currently in Monterey and wanted to eat in on our first night. After looking through our options, and being extra hungry, we decided to online order a deep dish pizza and the roasted broccoli appetizer. The location was easy to find and was able to park close by. Due to pandemic, they only do take out and are taking great precautions in doing so. The deep dish pizza is delicious! Randomly stumbled upon this place when my mom and I were visiting the area. We both have celiac and are gluten free so when we saw they had GF crust we thought we'd try it. We were both VERY impressed and happy we found this spot! We had the arugula salad which was simple and delicious and the sweet & spicy pizza which was also amazing. I ordered for takeout on a Saturday night, and I'm glad I ordered online in advance because there was a line going out the door when we arrived (short line, but still). The place wasn't really crowded, but had a good number of people dining in. They have both indoor and outdoor seating, with a really nice ambiance, I can see it being a really great restaurant for date night. They also serve beer and wine.. though pricy! We ordered a small thin crust customized pizza (we chose salami, pepperoni, and, bacon as our toppings). Size-wise it was more the size of a medium pizza, about 12 inches in diameter, so good for two people. I liked how well the pizza was cooked, crispy on the bottom, and the toppings slightly crisp as well. But it was a bit salty overall, and I love salty food so for me to say that is not an exaggeration. Also, they give 1 free side of ranch if you want... but what I got had a green tint to it and tasted like bleu cheese dressing. Very fresh ingredients, wonderful crust, super tasty sauce. The service was prompt and attentive. A nice, pandemic friendly environment with solid pizza. We were hungry after a long day of hiking and placed our order with Heirloom's super easy online system while on the way there. Normally trying to sub out meat while ordering online can be iffy, but their system made substitutions and removals a breeze. The inside of the restaurant is closed and it's takeout only. When we got there, we saw lots of people waiting outside for their pies. We thought we wouldn't be among them since we ordered in advance, but the pizza wasn't ready until half an hour after our allotted pickup time. It seemed this had also happened to a few other people waiting, so maybe have a snack ready if you're super hungry. Happy to report that after waiting the pizza was good. They forgot our goat cheese and our ranch, but the crust was nice, thin, and a good level of crunch so we still enjoyed. A saucier base than olive oil would have taken our pizza to the next level, but a butternut squash pizza covered in a arugula is still a winner in my book. All in all, I think if I lived in Monterey this would be a good option when I just want a pizza. Their bicycle delivery service seems cool and the pizza is pretty good. The staff is super friendly and helpful with questions and they were really great with my 3 year old daughter. Then there's the food: the best deep dish I've had. They made the ordinary extraordinary! The beets were roasted with walnuts and mixed with goat cheese and topped with a tangy vinaigrette. Management/staffing seems to be really poor. I put in an online order right at 5pm, arrived at the designated pick up time and was told it would be another 20 minutes. In the 30 minutes I ended up waiting, at least 5 other people came in looking for their takeout orders and none were ready. The wait time for dine-in was over an hour, although there were empty tables. I also heard them say they had turned off the phones because they were "slammed." Really the best Deep Dish Pizza we have had in California, Better than Zachary's and Pataxi's. We always get the New Original pizza and add chopped garlic, and eat it at the restaurant, as it has a very cool vibe inside. Tile accent wall, metal clad concrete topped bar, large patio for such a smallish square foot restaurant, with accordion windows that open up onto the patio. The pizza is always perfect with amazing tomato sauce, and a nice crispy crust. This is the first deep dish pizza we have had where you actually want to eat the crust. The crust has a slightly sweet flavor, it is the best. We usually order the side of the roasted broccoli with crispy bread crumbs and Parmesan cheese on top. Very unique and tasty appetizer. Is this a first date place, yes! Cool vibe and great food. Unless, your significant other does not like pizza. Who is that person? Food 5 of 5 stars, we have always loved the pizza and apps here. I have had my eye on Heirloom pizza for a very long time. They seem to have an award winning restaurant but with my to-go order I was left wondering if the aesthetic is what's winning the awards. I ordered a small Slider pizza and they accidentally made a large.. the beets, and the broccoli. The veggies were good, nothing i don't make at home. Beets seemed precooked and not made in house. The pizza: the meatballs tasted as if they were not fresh. I expected the taste of fresh meatballs and not the taste of reheated meat in my $34 pizza. I also expected the crust to wow me; I have not had many deep dish pizzas, but this crust was mealy. I feel that the hype behind Heirloom pizza did not come through for my visit. We've been here a couple times during trips to Monterey, and we always find the pizza tasty (and the apps, like the roasted broccoli). Deep dish pizza is the specialty at Heirloom but if you're expecting Chicago style deep dish - don't. I was and I was disappointed. While definitely "deep", the crust was more reminiscent of crunchy corn bread than pizza crust. The sauce was more chunks of tomatoes versus sauce. The toppings, buried under almost an inch of the sauce, were negligible. All this and it took almost half an hour to get - but at least we were told this upfront. To stave off our hunger we ordered garlic cheese bread - very good, nothing out of the ordinary. We also ordered roasted broccoli which turned out to be the highlight of our meal albeit very salty (and I salt everything so this says something). I definitely recommend ordering an app or two while waiting for your pizza. There was a decent, though not extensive beer and wine list. The menu stated that desserts weren't being served at this time. Heirloom just isn't memorable enough for us to return. read more

Deep dish done right. Its actually deep dish pizza not just 2 inches of crust with some toppings like alot of other places. The ingredients were very fresh and flavorful. The first bite was heaven. Loaded with cheese, sausage and pepperoni with a pizza sauce that was so good. The chunks of tomatoes in the sauce were delicious and juicy and I dont like tomatoes. It takes about 30 minutes to make one so dont be in a hurry when going there or order ahead. It's a small place with seating of about 40 maybe. There is also outdoor seating. It's a cute place with a little bar in the front. The people were friendly and our server was very helpful and explained everything well. I would have probably given 5 stars if they hadn't run out of the wedge salad and if it hadn't been cold in there. If I wanted to be cold I would have sat outside. read more

We have been going to Heirloom Pizza a few times a year for a while now and have always enjoyed great food and good service. This was until last night. The food was still delicious and the server was good. That was the limit of a good experience. The hostess had a look that we were bothering her by wanting to eat there. We arrived about 7pm and they were busy, but it only took about 10 minutes to be seated. We ordered fairly quickly and then waited for over 50 minutes to have an appetizer to reach our table and another 25 minutes for our main dish. By the time we received our appetizer the restaurant had only 5-6 tables with people still sitting. We understand that it takes a little longer for a deep dish pizza, but well over an hour in unacceptable. In the 50 minutes we saw no less than a dozen or so orders go out the door for pickup orders. I understand they sell pizza and there is likely a large amount of business that doesn't come an stay to eat, but we felt forgotten. If we choose to go back, maybe we should order before arriving. read more
