Still quite cute, however if you start to look deeper into the details you can tell some of the dishes are dusty and chipped :( Food is decent, best items in the tea time set menu is the chicken salad croissant and the raspberry macaron. Their white tip jasmine tea was delicious. Service wise: it was really sweet that they brought out candles for the occasion (anniversary), and the waiter was overall attentive. He did forget what kind of teas we requested with our food, but nonetheless he was quite nice and helped us take pictures too. I think it's a fun experience and I can imagine this being a cute spot for bigger parties as well. I'm so excited that there is finally a permanent HK cafe in the Bay Area! As a longtime HK fan, the cafe is a destination that I personally will visit over and over again. I've been to the other locations countless times so I'm happy we have one in NorCal now. The cafes are definitely original and unique that even if you're not a fan, you need to go experience the vibe. You will leave the place with a smile no matter what. For my first visit, I got the mango iced tea at the counter which was perfect because I only asked for one pump of syrup and they delivered. I also got the cute mini ornament! Just waiting on the pink gold mug to drop. We also went to the bow room and had the tiramisu during evening delights. It was really delish and light, not too sweet. I only got the "birthday tea" and it was because I needed the tea to help me fight the feelings of indigestion after having dinner. All the folks working hard behind the counter are friendly and the nostalgia of seeing the Sanrio themed treats really hit a millennial like myself. However, everything was a overpriced for what they were, the overly sweet appearance of the treats didn't appeal to me - too cute to eat! ALSO looked very sugary - I glanced at their tea time room whenever someone entered or exit it - and it looks great! Very cutesy - but based on the menu and pricepoint - I don't know if I'll make it a point to drive out and reserve a spot. Maybe I wasn't as much of a diehard as I thought. If the "cafe" menu were to be extended with more Sanrio themed eats - like Katsu Curry or sushi bites --- I would entertain it more. I love that there's a hello kitty cafe in the mall! The store is small. The reason for my rating, is because of the cake. I ordered the birthday cake and it was extremely dry. Also when we went, the donut machine was broken. I do wish that the tea room is opened so you can see inside. The server took ten minutes to figure out how to take it off - how many other people are they doing this to? Apparently this practice is still happening as it happened to my sister-in-law when she went recently, and they told her they wouldn't be taking off the additional gratuity. This is a review of the Bow Room Afternoon Tea. Hello Kitty Cafe is located on the 2nd floor of Valley Fair near the Bloomingdale's. There is a separate line to check in for the Bow Room and reservations are required. You can currently book them through Tock. The Bow Room is cute, decked out in Hello Kitty pink with lots of bows. The table is set with Hello Kitty details. The afternoon tea is $70 and the only choice you have is your beverage. The staff here are really friendly and sweet, as if Hello Kitty herself trained them! The reason for the review is that the food is meh and you're paying for the instagram worthy pics. For those who have been to the Irvine Bow Room, this location is a bit smaller. If you're looking for a high end afternoon tea experience, this isn't it. read more

I had read the reviews here and on Google and was prepared to underwhelmed when my daughter and I had our traditional annual tea to celebrate her birthday in the Bow Row instead of the usual local tea treasures. My daughter wanted to try something new this year, has been a huge Hello Kitty fan her whole life, and got us reservations about 6 weeks ago. First we stood very briefly in line at our reservation time by the the donut machine which wasn't working that day I am sad to say as I would have loved to have seen it in action. We're were greeted by the most friendly gal that led us into the enchanted Bow Room. It is very cute, very pink, kinda small but I did not feel overly crowded as some have claimed, and we were given our choice between a couple of tables for two. Even after it filled up, including several children, it wasn't even that loud in the room considering the size. She then said our server would be with us in just a moment and believe me he was and thoroughly explained the menu to us telling us that we got all the food listed and a beverage of our choice, either one of the many hot teas or iced teas, sodas or lemonade I believe, but we were there for tea. I had trouble deciding and had narrowed my choice to 3 and he kindly described them to me to aid my decision and told the more popular ones, etc, very very patient. The food was surprisingly good again after reading the reviews I was so impressed. The croissant was very flakey and fresh and that sandwich was so delicious. I really enjoyed all of the savory dishes. My daughter was not as found of the beet one but I liked it. Her favorite was the cucumber. There could maybe have been one or two more savory compared as to all the sweets. But I don't know, I was very full after eating all my savory nibbles and my strawberries and "cream" our server called it but it was the most delicious chocolate mousse. I had to take all my sweet nibbles to go. My favorite one of those was the macaroon but the apple one came in a close second. My daughter took most of hers to go too wishing she'd have not eaten the ones she had as she felt too full. So it is definitely enough food, very good, fresh tasting, and cutely presented. Plus, in comparison to the other local tea treasures similarly priced if not a little less. There were a lot of servers I noticed, at least three if not four which meant almost a dedicated server per table. Plus, the gal that seated us I noticed helped bring out food, beverages, refilled water, and brought us our to go boxes. So in saying this I can't help but say service was fantastic. Allan, I believe was our server's name please forgive me if wrong, came to check on us often, asking if we needed anything, brought more of the cute sugar Hello Kitty cubes, and kept my water glass filled (I drink a lot and even without ice it was cold enough for me). He was even able to his wizardly magic on our bill so the reservation deposit was no longer charged to my daughter but so I could pay the entire bill as it was her birthday! I am not offended that automatically add the tip and glad that they do take care of themselves as I have found some people to not be very caring about tipping. In fact I did not think their added amount was enough because of the exceptional service we received that I added more. SUPER CUTE! Your typical high tea menu. The tea and food was pretty good. We got 3 different teas a blossom tea, apricot and honeyed pear. I would have tried the assam tea but it was already 3:30 in the afternoon. The cafe high tea experience is very photo worthy! Jasmine was our waiter and she was great! All the staff was very lovely and attentive. There was also a kids party across from us and you can see how patient the staff was with them! I appreciate that. I went with my friend to do the afternoon tea for my birthday. Let me start by saying if you're a hello kitty fan you will love this. We were sat at the cutest table (bows on the chairs) and table setting with gold cutlery and hello kitty butter with strawberry preserves and hello kitty sugar on our teacup! (Handmade by the staff). Our waitresses were fantastic! Audrey and Brittney took such good care of us and Sam even came out to help with drinks!!! Now for the food. If you are hoping that this will be filling you may want to try a different place. The food wasn't not bad but not the best on my opinion but you're paying for the experience not the food. Let's start with the bottom tier. First your sat by your hostess. The waitresses come and asks for your drink order. We went with mango ice tea (fantastic) but knowing now what I know the hot tea would have been better. Luckily we also had hot tea (pomegranate green tea) which was fantastic. I tried to get the brand but I was told it specific to the hk cafe. The reason the hot tea is best is everything so very sweet. The tea helps tone down the sweetness so if and when I go back I'm doing the hot tea! After drinks you receive your chocolate cream with strawberries and mine had a candle and cute design. Very good but sweet and comes in a cute glass (you don't get to keep). Then this three tier hello kitty tray comes out with savory in bottom (cucumber sandwich 5/10, hummus beet cracker (8/10), chicken salad croissant (9/10)) the second tier is egg salad in a small cone (9/10 wasn't though really to eat), apple tart (9/10), scone (it's dry without the jam and butter) 7/10). By now we both were feeling the sugar rush. Then too tier was all sweets (petite strawberry cake 10/10, raspberry macaron 10/10, and finally the strawberry shortcake bite 10/10). We definately had to get something savory afterwards to even out all the sugar! They sell a super cute hk cup only inside the cafe which will set you back about 50 dollars. According to the official Instagram page, Hello Kitty would be there for a meet and greet for the grand opening but nowhere did it say it was limited to only the first 100 people. If that important detail had been mentioned, we would have come much earlier or made other plans. The gentleman in charge was extremely rude when we asked about it, and his attitude made the experience even worse. He acted like we should've just known, which made no sense given how misleading the post was. We waited in line for nothing. On top of that, the sweets and drinks they offer aren't even worth the wait. They are all sugary with a high price tag. Save yourself the time and disappointment.
