I have been using Hemley's for almost 18 years. There are several Septic companies who serve my area but I wouldn't use anyone else. I lived in Bremerton for many years and they served my house in a timely manner with updates throughout the day until a tech could come fix my tank's issues. When we moved to Gig Harbor, continuing to use Hemley's was an easy choice. The staff kept me updated, the various techs were friendly and helpful and explained everything. Hemleys came out and pumped our septic in September. Now six months later we had our semi annual septic tank inspection. We were told it was 3/4 full. If it had been totally emptied in September it would not be 3/4 full in February. We have a three- tank system and all three tanks need to be pumped. Hemley only pumped one tank. They are refusing to come out to pump the other two because the records in the county say it was pumped. Their workers were careless and spilled waste on the ground when they pulled the hoses out, leaving waste water on the lawn.They also charged us more because they said the tank was bigger than originally reported. We have a recommendation from the person who inspects septic system for another company to pump our tanks. We will be using them next time. read more

Hemley's has maintained the septic system on our home for over 40 years and has always been prompt, courteous, had an honest diagnosis of any problems and had reasonable rates when repairs were necessary. I would trust Hemley's always. There's a good reason they have been in business for nearly 60 years...... excellence. read more

The work was ok, but they misquoted and jacked up the price. The replacement of the junction box and section of drain line was quoted as a flat price. The senior man didn't show up until the work was almost done. Due to his absence the work took longer than expected and he charged for extra time taken. I also said I would uncover my tank, he said he would do it for no extra charge, and they broke a sprinkler line probing for the tank. read more

**BEWARE** ZERO STARS We were selling our home and our realtor contacted Hemley's to do the pumping on both of the septic systems. The county was aware of both systems, but did not have them listed separately on the county website. The house was vacant at the time of inspection. Hemley's contacted us to say that the baffles were completely missing in Septic 2. Hemley's was unaware that a year prior the system had been pumped and inspected and both baffles were intact at that time. Now suddenly they are missing? Hemley's tried to say that the entire septic system would need to be replaced? They would not make any repairs, or provide an estimate and advised us that we should just not sell the house. They also said they would have to wait for the Health Department to decide what repairs needed to be made. We were told one untruth after another from this company. Thankfully we contacted FloHawks who went out and inspected the tank and found that the baffles were now missing and would need to be replaced but that everything was fine. They filed the necessary correction report, and the County approved the RSS(s). We contacted the police, and they found this very suspicious and advised us that no one is out digging up septic systems to steal plastic baffles. Sadly we didn't have it on videotape, but we are left to draw our own conclusions, none of which is favorable for Hemley's. There was no reason for the prior company to have lied about the baffles (inspection in March 2018), since they would have made money installing them. Dealing with the unprofessional female owner and her husband (who is the one that went out to the house) was beyond stressful. If anyone has had problems with Hemley's we were advised by the County to file a complaint directly with them so that they can be investigated. read more

We used Hemley's to pump and inspect our septic tank this summer. The pumping went fine. Fast forward to now, about 4 months later and we are smelling sewage. I look around it seems to be seeping from the pipe area between the septic tank and our drain field. I call them to have them check it out. They say they can and the cost for service call was $195 and $55/half hour for digging. Let me repeat: they wanted $110/hour for someone to dig the ground! This being a messy job I decided to let them do it. They say they will be there two days later. The next day I get a call saying they have some questions. They say that they can save me the inspection money if I let them pump the septic tank. I explain to them a second time that they just did that. She says that is not possible because their files say our system is gravity fed and not pumped. I explain to them that it is pumped and I was there when their person went over it and pumped it. Well, she keeps arguing with me left and right. While she was pushing me over and over on this, I asked if they can rule out that this is not a problem with our neighbor's septic. At this time she went crazy telling me in no uncertain terms would they step on neighbor's yard even if I got their permission and paid for that. I said fine. Just have them come and check out our system on our property. She said they would be there Thursday morning. Thursday morning comes and no one shows up. At 1:00 pm I call and get their vmail. I leave a message. By 2:00pm no one has called. I call again and get a person. I give them my name and address and she comes back and says "you are not on schedule." I ask why and she steps away and comes back with: "you told us to inspect your neighbor's system and we don't do that." Before I could say a word she goes on with, "you need to get someone else" and hangs up on me! Unbelievable. I paid nearly $400 for the system to be pumped that was supposed to be "free" per Pierce County incentive program. And these guys can't even be bothered to come and inspect the system as they were supposed to and I was willing to pay $110/hour for digging? And then just hang up on me? Please stay away from them. This company doesn't care about customers. read more

My dad has always used these guys to pump his tank, so when my septic alarm went off, I gave them a call. On the phone, the rep was able to tell me what had already been done recently on my system by pulling county records. She quoted me a price for a full inspection and let me know that there may be additional costs to resolve the issue, once it is diagnosed. They were able to get a tech out same day and resolve the issue. The tech was very professional and very detailed. When he left, I had a good understanding of how the system worked. So far, my family has never had a bad experience. read more

You order an O & M service and they arrive and say it does not need pumping. The next guy comes and I mention we need an O & M and it does not need pumping. He does the O & M and decides to pump it anyway and charges us for it. When I questioned it he said as long as I was here. We were quoted a price and paid approx $244.50 more than quoted. read more

After an initial dealing with Hemley's that got real weird real fast, I chose to deal with another company.

Make sure you know all the county rules for septic tanks prior to using Hemley's Septic - They DO NOT HELP you meet the county septic system requirements correctly! I had Hemley's Septic come out to pump my system & diagnose/fix why my high water septic alarm was not working. (The pump was still working, just the high water alarm would not work.) They determined that my alarm-level float had come loose - and a wire was disconnected at the alarm (because it was constantly buzzing). So I had them repair it. I also had them do some additional work - Add risers to the tank openings (so future servicing would be easer). Total cost ~$1750 - no surprises here. HOWEVER, 2 years later I get a letter from Pierce County saying my septic system inspection was incomplete and I need to have it inspected AGAIN! Why Pierce County took TWO YEARS to determine this I don't know. This septic system is supposed to be on a 3-yr cycle, but Pierce County is insisting it be completely inspected again, after only 2 years. Hemley's said that they did the inspection required by the repair! However, they were supposed to do the inspection required by Pierce County for a septic system pump-out (which was also done by them, prior to the repair)! Even though a complete inspection would have required only a few extra minutes of work, THEY DID NOT DO IT, and instead filed an inspection report with the county that indicated some parts of the system WERE NOT INSPECTED. Now, they will NOT stand by their work & say I need to fully pay for a new inspection! I will find a different company, more local to my home near Tacoma (rather than Hemley's Septic in GIG HARBOR). I DO NOT recommend Hemley's Septic! read more

Matthew, James and ALL the technicians provided excellent customer service while at my home explaining exactly what they needed to do, what they would be fixing and what the costs would be so that there were no hidden fees or surprises at the end. 3 months ago I called Hemley's for service. I am inexperienced with septic systems so I called for service and for guidance. Hemely's not only completely misdirected me (as though they had no clue - or are just lazy) but we also failed our inspection. Hemley's told me to file for the insepection! So 3 months later I am back where I started. I decided to call Hemley's again (because they are the only company in the area that I knew was full service) and ask for help. Again, they blew me off. The office gals were rude and unwilling to help. What I was asking was not outside of their scope of work. Unreal. If you want proper service - do not call them. The office gal was combative and could not find the property conveyence report. I called a larger (more reputable) septic company and they found the information immediately. 3 months and Hemley's couldn't get it right. 3 minutes and the other company already has a game plan. read more

I had Hemley's pump my septic for a home sale and paid extra money to have them submit the form to the county. The county takes 10 days to approve/inspect, and I was supposed to close on my house on May 2nd. Hemley's pumped the septic on April 11th and I was told everything checked out and was given a bill showing no further repairs were needed.Three days later I get a call from Hemley's saying I need repairs, and it was written on the bill I had received. The bill I had was a carbon copy, and the need for repair was written there copy only, so it was written after I received my copy. The repairs were done on April 18th. Hemley's did not submit my form to the county until April 23rd. Had Hemley's submitted the form on the 18th the house would have closed on time. Since they waited 5 days to submit it the house is not going to close on time, and the buyers loan rate expires. Ridiculous that I paid extra money to have Hemley's submit the form 5 day later, which in turn postponed the closing of my house. read more

So far my experience has been horrible. I'm hoping that changes tomorrow. Hemley's sent me a coupon in the mail for 50 off a 350 dollar septic tank pumping. I called them and we scheduled an appointment. Today... they called me and said they could only come out this morning... in "45" minutes, not this afternoon as promised and agreed to. So I left work earlier than the appointment agreement time would have required, to dig out the tank right away so they would not charge me an additional 50 dollars for that, and it would be prepared for them. It is raining cats n dogs and cold and I lost money leaving work early but I did it. Just as I finished digging out the tank and preparing it for perfect, easy access, Hemleys called me a second time today, now to say they would not be coming today. I asked why? They said their driver felt sick and went to the hospital. I asked "don't you have a backup driver?". They said all their other drivers were busy. I wonder what they would say if I had called and said "my wife is dying from cancer, I need you to show up in 45 minutes and not charge me as my healthcare costs are bankrupting me now". So, again, I hurried away from work, dug up the tank for them as they requested to come early and then as I finished they called to say they were not coming. On the phone, again, they asked "can we can come tomorrow afternoon from 1 to 4?". I said "I don't know if you can or not... you did not come today as agreed from 1 to 3, you did not come today as agreed 'in 45 minutes' when you called this morning to change the appointment time... I don't know if you can come tomorrow from 1 to 4". The Customer Service Representative then said to me "if you are going to be rude I'll hang up on you". This "Customer Service" starts with your phone ringing and someone asking you if you are you. They don't identify themselves. Now... normally I would just hang up on someone that did that. When I call people I say "Hi, this is Dave H. I'm calling because...". Just a thought. If I owned the company I would not be playing solitaire while my Phone Reps were practicing poor communication skills with my customers. I would also get up and drive the truck myself to meet my obligations. I would also do more than apologize when I could not meet them. So... we will see "if they can show up tomorrow". I'm not Nostradamus. I am going to have to leave work again tomorrow to "discover" if they can show up, and that will cost me more money directly because they failed to meet their commitments. If they don't show up I'll be going to the BBB and the State's Attorney General office to complain because I will have been wronged. If they do show up and do their job and charge me appropriately I'll come back and say that. read more

I had Hemley's Septic come out and pump my septic tank, which they did as promised. However, their employee broke a sprinkler line and did not repair it. He promised to have one of their people out that same day (9/26/16) to fix the damage he caused, but no one showed up. I called the office today and was told that breaking sprinkler lines sometimes happens when pumping septic systems, but that they could do nothing about it until they talked to the pumper person. In the interim, I had to live with the big hole in my yard - and with the broken sprinkler line. The office person I spoke with could give me no time line when I could expect the sprinkler line to be repaired (if at all). I have yet to hear from any employee of Hemley's and have stopped payment of the check I tendered on the day of "service". read more

I will never use them again! Their prices are too high and when you get your invoice AFTER services provided, your bill is 3 x's more than what is quoted. A credit card was given PRIOR to the scheduled appointment (which they require) and then you have to request numerous times for a copy of your invoice. When you ask for charges to be explained, the office has an indignant attitude. When you ask to speak with the manager or owner, you are told they are not available. You ask to have the manager/owner call you, and you never get a call back! Poor customer service, exuberant prices, and no integrity as business owner(s). read more

I always try to support local business, but I will NEVER use Hemley's again. I contacted them to pump my septic tank as my house was closing escrow. I was encouraged to have them process the paperwork with the Health Department because it could be done more efficiently. There were several miscommunications from them ( I needed bushes removed from the area that they needed to get to the pump, so I hired someone to do it. Later they told me they had sent an email with an estimate via email so they could remove them---I never got that.) When they were finally available ( I should have gone with someone else at that point because they were so inconsistent about show up times and information..."truck was disabled" or "they will come tomorrow"). Once the pumpers came, they were unhappy the way the bushes were removed and commented "you are going to have to pay for this", as they needed to dig the hole deeper. At no time was there an explanation that a hole needed to be dug. THEN, once the pumping was done I was told that the paperwork would be sent to the Health Department that night. When I didn't hear anything from the Health Department several days later (after calling Hemleys and being reassured that the paperwork was sent off). I found out that the one person that sends the information to the Health Department was on vacation and it actually sat on the desk for approximately 10 days. SO, the house sell did NOT go through and an extension had to be added. To date the Health Department has still not shown up and when they were called even a LATER date of delivery was explained. I contacted them for services on 9-18-16 and to date (almost one month later) the process has not been completed. Throughout this entire mess, I received nothing but vague information.......actually LIES .. from Hemleys about their service, their follow through, and their explanations. The pumpers were rude and almost "giddy" about how much extra they were going to charge me for the improper removal of the bushes. I encourage you strongly to look for another company. The company has shown NO compassion or resolve to the situation that has impacted myself, the buyer, realtors, double mortgage payments, and other added expenses....Do NOT use Hemley's. read more

When we had our septic pumped the technician told me that there was a crack in the lid. He said that it was fine and wasn't an issue yet but wanted to let me know about it. When I told my husband about it he said that prior to Hemleys coming out the crack had not been there. My husband dug out the septic and swept around the lids and saw that it was all intact. I called Hemleys the next day to see what what they would do about the damage caused to the lid that they had caused. Originally in talking to the lady that answered the phone I informed her that I was calling because of a crack in our lid and she put me on hold to get my info. She came back to the phone having talked on the radio to the technician and with info. for me on what the process would be to replace the tank. She was very friendly. As soon as I told her I wasn't really calling for info. on replacing the lid since the tech. said that it was fine for now but I was calling because of the lid being cracked by the tech. she became cold and rude. She said that was something I would need to take up with the tech. and that he was not onsite because of being out on jobs. She said that the only thing she could do was leave him my phone # to call me. I was surprised at her abrupt change in attitude and gave her my phone #. Overall we were not happy with Hemleys as they did not try to correct the problem and the front desk lady was extremely rude and unhelpful as soon as she heard that there was a problem. read more
