Can't believe the way we were treated. I've loved Henhouse cafe since we started going there right when they opened up their first location on Higley. We're also friendly with the owners. So imagine how I felt when I was treated like complete trash when visiting their new location on Dobson. We walked up on a Sunday morning with a party of seven and they said they would seat us at a high top if that was OK. We said fine and they cleared a table for us. After our drinks were delivered, we put in our order and about 10 minutes later, the server casually mentioned to someone in our party that the kitchen was backed up and our order would be 20-30 minutes late. We discussed leaving, but we determined that since we already ordered drinks and there was nothing else around, we decided to tough it out and stay. I must say, the food was quite good, which is what I would expect from Henhouse. However, when the bill came, things took a turn for the worse. I noticed that there were no comps or discounts for the slow service so I politely asked for a comp (I NEVER do this usually but I felt it was warranted). The server asked her manager and came back and shared that since they disclosed that the food would be wait and we didn't leave, that they were unable to offer a comp. Seriously?!? You can't take an $8 item off the menu because we somehow 'complied' with the substantial delay (which threw the rest of my day off by the way)? The hostess came by and asked if everything was OK, and I told her it was not. I conveyed the situation and she tried to say that since we agreed to wait for our table initially that we in essence complied with the wait. I told her that we did not wait for our table and they sat us right away so I really don't understand the argument. I also shared that in the future, they should communicate the kitchen backup prior to a party being seated. In any case, I was extremely upset that they didn't even offer a gesture of good will, or even any apology or acknowledgement. However, I didn't want to stiff the server for the kitchen delay so on my bill of $36.13, I put down $60 to get some change, so I didn't give her a crappy $3.87 tip. And, as if it couldn't get any worse, she brought back two $10 bills and three ones, which actually SHORTED ME $0.87. So unlike most servers who would have rounded up in my favor, knowing I would leave the extra dollar, she rounded down AND provided two ten dollar bills, resulting in only two options, I could stiff her with the $3 tip or OVERTIP HER $10 for probably one of the top three worst experiences I've ever had at restaurants. So, I had no choice but to leave. I wrote on the receipt 'you shorted me $0.87' and walked out. I didn't know what else to do. After walking out of the door, the server chased after me with the dollar, saying 'I owe you this sir.' Humiliated and embarrassed, we ended up making a scene in front of the restaurant. I tried to explain that it was impossible for me to do the right thing here with all of the circumstances. I ended up shoving one of the aforementioned $10 bills into her hand and stormed off. Please feel free to go here...if you want to be humiliated and treated like absolute trash. read more

I had high hopes for this restaurant as a friend had been singing its praises. I was taking my parents to breakfast and were heading to a different place when I spotted The Henhouse on Dobson. Unfortunately, all three of our meals had poorly cooked eggs. Two of us asked for our eggs to be prepared "over medium" where the whites are fully cooked and the yolks are still runny. They were served, but were so over cooked that the yolks were like in a hard boiled egg. My dad ordered a Verde Omelet. His eggs had some of the gelatinous whites of the egg that were completely undercooked. For a restaurant that only serves breakfast and lunch, I expected the cook to know how to prepare eggs to order. It was a very disappointing experience. I believe my friend had visited the location in Gilbert, so perhaps there is a difference, but I'm not sure I'll be bothering to find out. read more

I ordered Mexican Benedict and chicken/chorizo topping seemed a bit skimpy and hollandaise sauce was bland. My son's skillet potatoes were hard and soft. French toast was good. I was a few shops down and had seen this cafe. So I decided to call in for some breakfast. They said it wouldn't take long so I walked over to pick up my food. Was greeted immediately by 2 young men which is great customer service to me. Although I didn't dine in, the cafe seemed so cozy and welcoming. The next time I'll definitely dine in for a proper experience. Btw I ordered the breakfast burrito which taste so good paired with their salsa. What a disaster!! Because food was coming out of the kitchen slowly, the so-called manager told the hostess to stop seating people. So my party of 2 went from a 10 min. wait to 45 minutes. Then walk through a half-empty restaurant when being seated??? Really??? Here's an idea...maybe seat people, get their drinks, and explain to them about the kitchen back up. I bet people would be more understanding than standing around for 45 minutes ( small waiting bench that was full). The I order chicken fried chicken. When it finally arrives and I try to cut into it, it is chicken fried steak, not chicken. Decided to just eat it because of kitchen turn times. Ha, fat chance of that. It's sooo overcooked that it is burned on the bottom and like jerky. I eat the eggs, potatoes, and toast and leave that burnt leather on the plate. when the waitress finally shows back up, I tell her about the mistake and she checks and comes back to tell me she wrote the correct order down, but punched in the wrong order and asks if I want a piece of chicken. We are ready to leave and you want to give me a piece of chicken to make it right??? Crazy. Stay away from this location. I'll go back to Gilbert where I have rarely had any problems and they are ALWAYS slammed. Dobson road(location 3) stinks!!! read more

Absolutely wonderful food with HUGE portions. We went for the first time for a family brunch and ordered the strawberry cheesecake french toast, "Grandpa skillet," and chicken fried steak with biscuits and gravy. My mother is a self-proclaimed southern girl having grown up there and adored the fried steak alongside her delicious biscuits and gravy. She was 100% right- the gravy was spot on. Nice and peppery with just a little kick. My sister's french toast was sweet and filling, while my skillet was wonderful (and huge!) as well. We saw several people ordering pancakes... holy cow those things were the size of pizzas! We were waited on by the general manager, Boe, who was so sweet and attentive. We will definitely be back to try more on the menu. It's so great to have a new breakfast place besides the usual Chompies (good but more expensive with variable service). They also do lunch and have what appears to be an expansive brunchy cocktail and beer selection. Our only complaint? Took 20-30 minutes to finally get our food. But it was busy, our food was fresh when we got it (not sitting around in the window like some places), and our drinks and coffees were never empty. 5/5, hope it stays this good! read more

Drove 30 minutes to meet a friend for brunch. Nice looking place but the acoustics were so bad we almost had to shout to hear each other. Food took 55 minutes to arrive, and it was cold. Waiter took it back but the second time, the eggs were runny. He brought another couple of eggs, but my meal was nearly finished by then. He was also not very attentive as a waiter. Had a great time yesterday at the Henhouse. We had a phenomenal breakfast, I had the chicken fried steak and Heather had the French Toast. Good lord it was delicious and cooked to perfection! I have been here before (twice) and I order 2 eggs hashbrowns and toast. I LOVE cheese! So I always order cheese in the eggs and a side of cheese. I was told BOTH times they ONLY have SLICED CHEDDAR (they give you a SLICED square of CHEDDAR.) So the third time I went I ordered the same thing and said, "can I get cheddar in the eggs and two slices on the side?" The waitress took the order and took my husband's order, which was something, with refried beans on the side. The restaurant wasn't crowded, however, they didn't have enough wait staff. This has happened the last couple of times I was there but we don't mind, wouldn't have even minded waiting. Another waitress brought out the order and set it down. I noticed only ONE piece of sliced cheddar on the side. AND I said to my husband once the second waitress left, "Hey you have shredded cheese on your beans!" We laughed thinking it wouldn't be a problem. Our original waitress came by and asked if everything was ok. I asked, "Oh, can I get a second slice of cheddar on the side please?" She said, "No." I said, "I am sorry, what?" She proceeded to explain the owner told her that it would, "Back up the kitchen. I understand what you are asking and I think customers should get what they want but that is what she said." We were SHOCKED!!!! I said, "We will pay for it, last time I was here one slice just isn't enough, and P.S. why does my husband have shredded cheese on his beans? Not that it is weird but I was told you only have CHEDDAR slices?" She said, "I love cheese too, but you asked for cheddar and that's not cheddar on his beans it is a mix. I can go ask the owner again if you want I even asked another server what I should say to you and she told me that's the way it is." I asked her to please go and ask for another SLICE. Well, she never came back we asked for the 30 some odd dollar check and I did tip her 20% because it wasn't her fault, maybe it was. Henhouse, I WILL NOT be going back to your restaurant ever! You should ALWAYS get your customers what they order (if you have it). And BACKING UP THE KITCHEN? Yep! Gave it a most of the day for consideration. I still feel the same. The Henhouse Cafe(Riverview) cooks. Stopped in early this morn on a recommendation, and the hype is real. Made my selection with expert guidance from Mary who had all the details. My wait was minimal, everyone was welcoming, and the grub was great. A potential round robin of Chicken and Waffle, Eggs and Potatoes, Spicy Syrup and Gravy. Commute to where repast would unfold experienced potential derailment by fragrances of flavor wafting subtly. Arrival and unveiling yielded results of nicely coated(and sizable) chicken breast, flayed open, yet remained uber-moist and featured a creative sprinkle of powdered sugar on top. The hits kept coming as I indulged dipping almost every bite into a bit of the accompanying gravy. A light Belgian waffle took to the spicy syrup easily. Eggs(had mine scrambled with veggie mix-ins) and potatoes finished the array of offerings which combined as successful marriage. I eagerly look forward as flocking to The Henhouse fulfills powerful urges to consider forays into other menu items. Yum! read more

This breakfast place recently opened in a new location near me so I thought I'd try it out. My friend and I were seated immediately when we came in at around 10:30 AM. Our waitress, Kim, promptly took our order and our food and drinks came out shortly after. They have some of the best breakfast food I've ever tried. My Santa Fe omelette came with a side of toast and potatoes. I've never had potatoes like the ones I got here. They are thin slices of potatoes but taste like typical breakfast potatoes, very good! I'd definitely recommend this place to someone looking for a new breakfast joint. read more

I eat a lot so it was a good serving for me but for someone that does not eat a lot, it'll be too much. I had one of their House favorites, the Chicken fried chicken. Went to Hen House for breakfast with the family. It's was busy but efficient we got seated and server came up quickly. We got our drinks and since we had been there many times before we were ready to order. My wife and daughter went to the south of the border section and I went with traditional with biscuits and gravy, with a short stack for the table. For the amount of people I'm the restaurant food came quickly piping hot minus the short stack. Server assured us it was enroute. As we dig in I see the manager going around asking how everything was at each table. For some reason our table got skipped. Now 1/2 through our meal our server starts setting up the auxiliary room behind us. 3/4 through the meal I get her attention and cancel short stack. And if you know anything about hen house you will know at that point we just missed out on the best part of breakfast. I paid, tipped 18% and left feeling very unfulfilled. I will just have to brave the crowds at the Guadalupe store. Never again Dobson Never again. read more

I am all about supporting family owned businesses but sadly I will NEVER step foot or recommend this place to anyone. My family and I just ran the half marathon looking for a good place to fill our bellies and landed here. Ours AND other tables experience to not come here: 1. Called and was told the wait was 20 - 30 minutes then checked in and was told 60 - 90 minutes. Afterwards they said just kidding we can seat you soon which did end up being 20 - 30 minutes. 2. We ordered drinks and which kind of came to the table timely. We asked for flavored creamer and it was forgotten. Asked again and finally received more in 3 different deliveries. 3. We ordered food rather quickly, again just ran a half marathon and was ready to eat, and waited and waited. 4. Finally after we waited some time we asked and she said they were backed up. 5. Another couple had asked not too long after us and were told the same thing. They ended up walking out and left. 6. As I looked around and saw other tables who walked in after us and were seated way after us eating......I was extremely upset. I quickly got up and walked over to the staff, possibly managers, and expressed my frustration. 7. Staff came back and said they were backed up. That's it! No offer of anything while they make us wait for over an hour. 8. 2 MORE tables were delivered food, including the other side of the restaurant that was pretty empty when I had gone to the restroom. WOW, they couldn't make us priority?! I am sure some of those tables on the other side walked out too. At that point, we had been at that restaurant for over 2 hours still starving. Since they apparently did not have great customer service we no longer wanted to find out how the food would taste as we figured it was no longer worth our time or money. Makes sense why a lot of the staff did not have smiles on their faces and why would they have so many servers if there was nothing to serve. VERY DISAPPOINTING!! read more

Worst restaurant experience I've ever had in my long old life ;). We waited 40 minutes to be seated, and because we'd went to get coffee while waiting, they wasted no time making a beeline for the table to tell us to take our coffee cups outside. They eventually took our order and then we sat without drinks or food for 40 minutes before we inquired. Everyone there after us had food. The waiter didn't apologize but mumbled about "the kitchen"; then came back 5 min later and said "it would be a while- like 40 more minutes". He clearly never put in our order, and none of the other staff running around checked in with us. He charged us for a coffee (couldn't even comp that!!!!!) and we left. Horrible place. read more

Ok first off out server...i think he name was Hector was amazing. This is how every server in ever restaurant should be!!! Super friendly, helpful, relatable, and made sure everything was right!!! The food was amazing!!!! If yout get the pancakes WATCH OUT!! they are huge!!! I got the basic breakfast with eggs, bacon, sausage, and toast which was amazing!! The sausage is made from scratch they say and it was a great breakfast sausage. They only down side if there is one is that they are pricey, but you pay for quality. All in all, just do it!!! I like to go here for breakfast whenever I'm in the area. I'm only here once a year but it's a great spot!! I would suggest the Texas Benedict if it's your first time.
