Service was great. Atmosphere was on point. Food was yummy. My husband loved his green chili skillet & my son was really impressed by the huge pancake on the kids menu. I got the crab omelette & my experience was mixed. Each part individually was delicious but the combination was odd. I'm not sold on crab + hollandaise + cheddar + guacamole. I think I'll just get something different next time. The potatoes were great though. They were slices instead of regular home fries or hash browns & came out just the right level of crispy. Mayday! Mayday! This place has gone down. Down hill that is. We were seated right away , but then ignored for several minutes. People arriving after us had drink orders to the table, before I had to ask to have a server come over. We should have taken the hint and just walked out. Wife orders sides of two eggs and toast but recieved two eggs and potatos and toast. Bill comes later and we were charged for a full breakfast ($11.99) which is the price for 2 eggs, meat, toast, and potatoes. We pointed out the discrepancy to server who said that is how they had me ring it in, then she promply disappeared. Five muniues lated the owner comes over and mishandles the situation. He argues that price difference would only have been about $2.50 if we had ordered side orders. (That would figure to $9.50 for 2 eggs and toast) He suggested we order the eggs on the side next time to avoid being charged for the full two egg breakfast. since we were charged for the full breakfast, I should have asked for the side of bacon to go. My chicken fried steak breakfast plus a side of two eggs and toast came to total of $27. We had no drinks. Crappy service and average food. Talk about Value! There wont be a next time for us as we wont be returning. read more

The manager at this facility was absolutely great thank you again Cody and the server Paul noticed that I had asked for the meat to be put on the side and they turned around and asked me was there a reason why I said I was a vegetarian and they also let me know that the potatoes were cooked in bacon grease they went out of their way to cook my potatoes in butter which I thought was absolutely outstanding customer service will continue to go there absolutely loved the food the place and the atmosphere read more

This place is amazing. Friendly staff Great food. I tired the Tamale Plate, this had great flavor. I eat at many Mexican Restaurants and this breakfast dish measures up. My wife had the Ribeye Benedict. She said the steak was tender and the sauce was amazing. The potatoes were also very good. I highly recommend this place. We will be back. read more

The food was absolutely disgusting the only good thing that I liked out of the food was possibly the French toast and even that didn't taste like real French toast the bread was flat like something I could've just made at home with some regular bread the coffee was disgusting and there was no flavor to the food even after smothering it with salt and pepper the staff was nice and friendly so I didn't have any complaints about that. I just would not go back. I waited so long to try this place and was very disappointed once I got there. To me it was over priced and a waste of money to me. read more

The atmosphere is really clean and country rustic - so I loved it! The food was fantastic also. The wait staff was a little slow, but very responsive. I had the grandpa skillet, and the country gravy (which is usually hit and miss from restaurant to restaurant,) was really delicious. I will definitely come back! read more

No kid's menu and no crayons/coloring page/activity of any sort for children: I'm slightly baffled by the "Good for kids" label that Yelp has evidently bestowed. This lack plus a 45-minute wait for food (enormous, tasteless pancakes and completely boring bacon & eggs) meant it was lots of work to keep kids from going off the deep end, let alone feel like they were welcome. My wife and I went to Hen House yesterday for breakfast and loved it! We both ordered the chicken fried steak breakfast despite wanting to try something else but it is so good! We absolutely love this place. The staff was great and friendly! The only problem is location. We drove from Surprise and it is worth it but would love to see Hen House in Surprise or at least in the west valley! read more

the food, AMAZING. The service...not the best. Our server was really nice, just very rarely checked on us. The food also took quite a bit longer than normal breakfast places. usually those things annoy me enough to give less stars but the FOOD was so GOOD. i ordered a cali benedict, it came sliced potatoes and WOW. I've never had breakfast potatoes with as much flavor as these. Its not overwhelming, but its enough to make you realize they are not your average potato. The entree was really good as well. The hollandaise sauce was a perfect consistency, the avocado was fresh and neatly prepared. It's priced very well too. Two of us ate for $23. Well worth the money for the food. This place doesn't even deserve a 1 star. Absolutely ridiculous! We waited for our food an hour and 20 minutes before we finally decided to leave. We were extremely patient but saw everyone around us get their food so we brought it up to management and he said he would look into it but never came back and they continued delivering food to other tables that had arrived after us. It really sucked since we had just finished running a half marathon and were really needing to refuel our bodies. Stay away from this place. read more

Food used to be excellent- waited 40 minutes for 1 meal and it wasn't right. We wanted extra crispy potatoes and they were not right, Waitress said she would fix the order and never did. We were very pleased with the service and impressed with all the menu offers. But, when our orders arrived... Everything was cooked to perfection and tasted amazing. I had "The Life Changing " open faced meatloaf on sourdough toast and home fries!!! A creamy sauce on top made this a menu item I will definitely order again. Meatloaf was moist and just enough spice I didn't even use my usual ketchup on any of it! Worth the calories and it will hold you over all day! Very disappointing visit today. We love the henhouse and all the great food they have, today we came in as a party of 4 and two children. Our waitress who won't be named (erin) who took our drink order and forgot our utensils. We asked several times for utensils so we could stir our coffees but she kept forgetting until it was too late. We all used our straws from our water cups to do the job. Then we got our food order in and it took a whole hour for our food to get to us. People were sat down around us and got their food way before us. Her response was that the kitchen was "backed up". when our food finally did come, it had the saddest presentation; it was hardly warm and not appetizing at all. We had our two children who didn't even get their food out, we had to leave because our kids got too hungry, and again, their food didn't make it out. Mine, specifically, I had ordered green Chile on the side and for my green Chile skillet, these imbeciles threw green Chile on top of everything and put my carnitas on the side. And of course all of it was barely warm, so we had enough of those shenanigans and left, but they had me pay for the coffee, with no talk from a manager or complimentary coffee from our bad experience. Not even a apology from a Manager/ and a half apology from Erin. I've had better food from Uncle Sam with his M.R.E.'s over seas. Just wish two veteran's could get a decent meal with their family's. Cute decor and clean. Service was good. We ordered the Mexican Benedict, the Cail Roast Beef Sandwich, and the Chicken Salad Croissant. All the food came out fast and hot. Sandwiches were good size and tasty. The roast beef was full of green chili. Chicken salad was freshly made (had a little chicken bone mixed in) and they were out of the croissant so we got it on sourdough. Benedict was really flavorful a little awkward to eat. read more

Found this little piece of heaven just driving around before an appointment! I took a seat at their bar and the couple next to me sparked up a conversation (Sandy and Steve). Sandy is the owner! They were so very friendly and even paid for my meal and made sure the waitress was taken care of as well! They treat their employees well. The food was amazing and quick wonderful service! Food was OK... Service not so much. Other than taking my order and delivering my food I was ignored. I didn't even get butter with my French toast. Server never came by to check on me to see if my food was okay or refill my coffee. I finally had to get up and get my own refill which should NEVER happen. I guess because I was a single woman sitting alone she didn't think I was worth her time. What she didn't know is I have been in the industry over 20 years and when it comes to tipping I will give up to half the bill if the service was good. I do this because I know what it's like to have to work for tips. However the server didn't seem to want to work for my tip so she got what she earned. With social media today, especially in the customer service industry, you never know who you're taking care of. It could be a secret shopper.. it could be the president of a company. And negative reviews are easily posted. Unfortunately because of her service they have probably lost a customer. read more

First off, let me say I usually love The Hen House Cafe, but today, at this location was a complete disappointment. Our wait time quoted was reasonable, but after the almost 20 minutes (our quoted time) we asked why no one had been seated in the last 15 minutes and half the tables were empty. We were told "the kitchen is backed up so they asked that no more tables be seated," after another 20 minutes (double the quoted time) they finally sat us. As seated us they explained there may be a wait since the kitchen is still backed up. Our waiter was prompt and friendly. Customers were just sitting, waiting. Wait staff just standing around waiting at the counter for food to come up. It took another 20+ min to get our food. Very poor management at this location! Will never return to this location. They need to look at the management team of this location! read more

This place is highly overrated. The food is nothing out of this world. Standard taste for breakfast food. The giant pancakes they sell are huge but not the best tasting pancakes. Walked in today was seated ok. Our server came up didn't say hello and said I have to take your water bottles. She said no outside food. She said I can keep it at the counter. Food could be good but never going back. I've never had a restaurant make that requirement. Am I supposed to trust that no one will mess with my water bottle. Plenty of other restaurants don't need this one ever. You should let your food sell your restaurant not silly requirements. You could ask "is that just water". I initially tried this place because it seemed like a cute, relaxed place. When I arrived it wasn't that busy, less than half of the restaurant was filled. The food that I saw looked really good, however in the end I wasn't even able to eat anything, because we ended up waiting for so long that we had to just leave. The service was bad. Despite waiting for at least 35 minutes after ordering, our waitress didn't check on us once. We watched several tables of people be seated, eat their entire meals, and leave with time to spare, but for our two-person table it was too much to even refill our drinks. read more

Ok we had the giant pancakes because ya gotta see it for yourself and it's crazy ridiculous. No point in posting a picture of the same pancakes it's not a camera trick folks these mothers are huge. That being said we did have the chicken fried chicken and it was really tasty great breading flavor. The breakfast potatoes get a thumbs up. The gravy on the chicken fried chicken was also delicious. So beyond the giant pancake there is good food to be had so we will go back for human size portioned food. read more
