They have 2 types of horse radish and I would recommend trying both of them. I had the ribeye the first visit and lets just say it was so good that I had to come back again. The service is always excellent, servers know the menu inside and out and are able to make recommendations. The food is consistent and always perfectly prepared. Love the entire menu, especially all the seafood options. You can have the higher-end experience if that's your style, but its easy enough to be more casual with some more modestly priced entrees and a chill bar area. We have yet to make it to brunch but can't wait to try it out! read more

Took my wife here for a nice steak dinner while we were in town for a night. She ordered a speciality cocktail which was decent, I had beer. We ordered the Crab and Artichoke dip for an appetizer which came with freshly fried pita chips. We both enjoyed it very much. For our meals, we both ordered New York Strip medium rare. For our sides we chose fries and a baked potato to share, both were very good. The only positive about the steaks were they were cooked as ordered, with a warm pink center. They were very bland, and not tender or juicy at all. The service was decent. We sat at a table in the bar and didn't have one specific server as all three servers float around and help all tables where needed. One of the three was very friendly, the other two seemed snooty. Went for my birthday dinner, and disappointed is an understatement. We were sat at 7 but wasn't greeted by our server til around 7:15. Ordered drinks and salads. Drinks came back in a reasonable amount of time, salads took about another 20 minutes. Finally ordered our entrees around 7:45 and waited another 30 minutes. Steak came out over requested temperature and room temperature. Sent back to the kitchen. Someone in their infinite wisdom decided to "warm it up" so steak came back even more overcooked and inedible. Ended up going with the Tuna Poke, which was actually pretty good. This restaurant/staff and chef were by far the best food our group has eaten in years. Several ordered Chicken Parm and couldn't stop raving about it. Several ordered Filets and could cut them with butter knives and were cooked to absolute perfection. One of our group had the Short Ribs and the meat was falling off the bones and the last of group has the Salmon, which was so flaky and tender. The taste of the food was phenomenal. Our server to Ashton was an excellent server. There was a table next to us with a large group that were a little "extra" and he still was able to make sure we heard and understood when speaking with us. Too bad there aren't 10 stars. We had a large group of just over a dozen guests and so ordered from an abbreviated menu. We started with several appetizers and I was able to sample about half of them. The calamari was lightly fried chunks served with a sweet spicy sauce. The shrimp were mildly seasoned popcorn-sized shrimp. There was also a seared ahi tuna appetizer, and I was able to try some of the garnish, a pickled cucumber salad. The salad had excellent fresh texture and a light and subtly sweet flavor. The garnish of pickled ginger was less delightful, although it's taste was spot-on, since its texture was disturbingly soft. My entree was the house filet. It had a decent flavor, but a tad bit dry for "medium." My wife had the chicken breast, which looked a bit dry but she said was fine. It was served on an excellent mushroom risotto made with a sweet wine, which was a bit too strong for her tastes. Both came with salads which were good. I had the house salad with blue cheese dressing and my wife had the Caesar, which she said had a little kick to it. For desert we had the creme brulee and the warm chocolate cake with vanilla bean ice cream. Both were excellent examples of those dishes. Our server was friendly and attentive. We had a considerable wait for our first refill, but subsequent refills were prompt once he got his rhythm. The atmosphere of the establishment is elegant and comfortable. The private room is definitely quieter than the main dining area. About a dozen tables are available for sidewalk dining in good weather. For bad weather, or patrons with accessibility needs, the parking garage is in the same building with the elevator opening near the restaurant entrance with your entire travel path covered. read more

Wow, you would think with a location like this restaurant has, that they would actually have decent food. Not so. We started with the crab and artichoke dip. It tasted like the crab was straight from a can and old to boot. Hubby ordered the short ribs, they were bland and tasteless. I ordered the chicken picatta, the chicken was over-breaded and the sauce was coagulated. We felt bad for the waitress and didn't want to complain, but they didn't even take the app off the bill. Considering we didn't make an issue or bother to try to send the entrees back, they truly should have at least taken the appetizer off of the bill when we stated the taste was not right. So in closing, don't waste your time or money here. I'm sure there are many better places to eat in Chattanooga. I'm sorry I did not take the recommendations the lovely local gave me. read more

OMG! And I usually don't say things like that! What a great 'first experience' for out-of-towners! First, the staff was great. Without a reservation - seriously, it was the first place we layed eyes on after rolling into town after an 8-hr, mid-week drive from Wash, DC - I was apprehensive. But the host found a spot in the bar. Comfortable seats for butt-weary travellers, and an Old Fashion in hand, set the expectations at a happy medium. Then it happened, the food arrived. OMG, again! The spinach salad would have been enough - my wife ordered a ceasar salad, to nibble on - both disappeared in what seemed a minute. We couldn't beleive the flavors and freshness. Good food might warp time and space - not sure that's good or not, mentally - but our tummies didn't mind it at all! Then, the entrees arrived. The fragrance and presentation was a delight to the senses. I opted for the Chicken Madeira - I'm a snob for creative sauces - over a generous portion of risotto. We also has the lump crab cake with roasted asparagus. Oh, my! The portions were very generous, and so tender, and so tasty. I truly couldn't put the knife and fork down. We went back the second evening and were just as pleased. We'll have to find a night to go back for dessert, just dessert. This is a definite 'return-to-here' spot. Wow. We went here for my husbands birthday and it was most definitely a treat! From the moment we walked in, the staff was so nice and courteous. Our service was excellent and all the servers were continuously doing their part (I.e. if there was a dirty plate on the table, the next server walking by would grab it or ask if we needed anything). I'm a lobster bisque fanatic and this was some of the best I've had in a long time, high recommend. I ordered the "Mahi mahi imperial style" which was to die for! I would've eaten the whole dish if I had the stomach capacity! My husband ordered the Delmonico steak and added a lobster tail and needless to say, he devoured it. Just grabbed dinner here with my boss this evening. Hennen's came highly recommended from my boss' colleague at work, as a place to get a great steak dinner in downtown Chattanooga. The steakhouse is located in a really pretty area of downtown, right next to the Tennessee River, and the Tennessee Aquarium. Parking was easily accessible with the adjacent garage (and it is free, because the hostess will validate your ticket). The restaurant is small and intimate, a great place for a dinner date, or a business dinner. We were quickly greeted by our server, who proved to be very efficient and friendly for the duration of our meal. It also showcases a very impressive wine cellar, and a classy-chic bar, where I would definitely not mind having an appetizer/drinks at on another night. My boss and I were both starving, so we immediately ordered the calamari appetizer. Our server informed us that the seafood is always flown-in fresh daily, that nothing at the restaurant is ever frozen, and that all of the steaks are hand-cut and deboned in-house (nice!). The calamari was delicious: it was tender and sweet with just the right amount of breading. Nothing rubbery or frozen or over-breaded here. The breading was not overseasoned at all (which is a common mistake) and it was perfectly complemented by the sweet chili sauce that was served on the side. Between the two of us, we devoured the appetizer in no time. The BLT wedge salads that we ordered were good; nothing unique or mind-blowing, but still tasty. For our entrees my boss went healthy, and ordered their special red snappers of the night, served over a bed of succotash. I went the caloric route, and ordered the 12 ounce prime rib, medium rare, with the roasted mushrooms as my side. My beef was perfectly cooked, not overly fatty (probably a credit to the hand-trimming) and I greatly enjoyed the ample side of roasted mushrooms. Since my dinner partner was my boss, I did have the foresight to realize it would be unseemly for me to sample his dish. Ahhh, curse you, professional demarcations - because his fish looked delicious! He said it was delicious, and he did not leave a scrap on his plate. We were both too full after dinner to order dessert, but their selection sounded quite good (crème brûlée, beignets, vanilla cheesecake + salted caramel sauce and lava cake, to name a few - I must have been plumb mad to have opted out of dessert). Notable as well, the prices were very, very reasonable. Dinner for two before tip, with an appetizer, salads, two entrees plus one beer, was $70. This is a very good value for the cost. read more

In Chattanooga for a business trip, so I came in alone for dinner and sat at the bar. Great food!!! Mediocre beer selection, apparently more of a wine and spirits place. They don't appear to have any beer on tap, which was a bit of a turnoff. I ordered a local pilsner that came in a can. The bartender poured it into a glass that resulted in an almost 1:1 beer to foam ratio. I strongly believe that a bartender should be able to properly pour a beer. This is the only thing that knocked down my rating a star. Now for the food! This part was fantastic!!! I started out with the tomato bisque, which was very tasty, creamy, and flavorful. great way to start my meal. Followed that with the house filet and the veges of the day (carrots and turnips). The steak was PERFECT!! Perfectly cooked, perfectly seasoned, overall awesome! The roasted veggies were great, I left nothing on my plate. I will be back for that steak! I enjoyed the nightly fish special, halibut over red pepper grits with spinach, and finished my meal with a warm chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream. The fish was flavorful and perfectly cooked, and the dessert was not big enough to make me feel the lest bit guilty about eating it despite it's decadence. We went to Hennen's to celebrate our 30-year anniversary of our first date (it was a blind date that never ended). We have now been married for almost 28 years and have two adult children. This restaurant was the perfect location for celebrating such a wonderful occasion. The steaks were outstanding as was the side dishes (loaded mashed potatoes) and the appetizer (salmon spread). Our waitress was top notch as well and even wrote us a little note at the top of our receipt (see pictures). I DEFINITELY RECOMMEND HENNEN'S! We are visiting from Los Angeles, CA and were looking for a good steakhouse in town. We didn't have a reservation but were seated right away (party of 2). Our waitress was very sweet and the iced tea was delicious. The bruschetta was tasty and the salad was just ok. As the night progressed, the food got worse. The salad was very earthy and had too much cheese on it. Then my filet AND mashed potatoes came out cold. I sat and watched my mom eat while they heated mine up. The waitress apologized but never offered us complimentary dessert, a discount on our bill, etc. Anyway, we decided to order dessert & much to our NON surprise, it kept getting worse. The warm chocolate molten cake was not anything close to warm, and the beignets were dunked in some mocha cream sauce. No thank you. At this point we were tired and just wanted to get our bill and get out. I'm honestly surprised people in this town rant and rave about this establishment. I would've much rather been at Big River Grill around the corner - half the price and way better food. PS- we were given a coupon from our hotel for a free appetizer. When we gave it to the waitress at the end of the night she said it was only valid on 2 seafood option appetizers (although the coupon didn't state that ANYWHERE on it). My experiences at Hennen's have been few and far between, so with this visit being the first in years, I was so excited to go! But... It didn't turn out as well as I hoped it would. This is what happened... One of my work friends had a birthday party there. My now ex-fiancé (that's a whole different story!) and I went there for the first time together and his first time meeting my friends from work. So we arrived a bit early, sat at the bar and had a drink while waiting for the rest of our party to get there. I have absolutely nothing bad to say about the bar area and the bartenders. They were good to us and very attentive. Well, we see some of my work friends arrive, we all go back to the room they have reserved for parties. There were two long tables to seat us all. There were probably 60 people. It was so cramped! Being that we were one of the first there, we sat in the furthest part of the room. Unfortunately, to go to the ladies room I had to squeeze past one of the other party guests between him and a protrusion in the wall. Of course, I was not the only one who had to do that. I would guess he was not happy with his seat by the time our food arrived which is a whole different story in itself. So we all ordered drinks, got the first one and the wait staff asked if we need more but never came back until they were ready for food orders. My ex wound up going back to the bar to order ours and brought our drinks back to the table! The food was subpar and costly. I was so disappointed after waiting for almost an hour to eat post ordering food and for the fact there is such a hype over their food to get mine being less than fantastic! The staff was very overwhelmed, needless to say, though there were more than two people there taking care of all of us. I may go back if in a group of 4 or less, but probably not for a large group. read more

My review for Hennen's might have been higher if I were more a fan of their steak philosophy. (I'm more of a Longhorn steak fan, which may make me a less sophisticated steak eater by the measure of others.) Hennen's seems to like somewhat more of a charcoal-y sear on their steaks than I'm inclined towards. Otherwise, my steak was great - I ordered Medium and it was precisely so. We also ordered their Lobster Bisque and it was delicate and delicious. I ordered my steak with Mushrooms and they really didn't do it for me. We also both got the mashed potatoes and they were really good. The table bread was wonderful. Service was stellar, our server being very attentive, knowledgeable, and lovely in conversation. In all, it was a fine dining experience - as Hennen's clearly aims for. read more

We have been to Hennon's several times before and were always pleased with the food and service. This time we were a party of 6 and everyone seemed pleased except my meal (Steak/shrimp Kabobs) was quite cool when it came to the table. I sent it back and when it was served again, it was but luke warm. I told our waiter this but there was no effort to resolve the issue this time. Quite disappointing from the usual standard of food and service in this restaurant. Additionally, I asked for Cappuccino after dinner and was informed the machine was broken! Absolutely AMAZING!!! Last night (9/11/21) my husband and I went there to celebrate out 13th wedding anniversary and had the most amazing dinner. Everything from the wine and beer to the dessert (chocolate molten cake with ice cream and raspberry sauce) was delicious. We had nothing to complain about. I ordered their Market Fresh fish - Red Fish and OMG it was to DIE for. I literally wanted a second plate! I can NOT wait to head over there again! This place is a MUST GO! Hated this place.... I felt so uncomfortable this place felt racist... bar tenders were so inattentive. Only helping the suited up white males while we waited forever just to ask one question....groups of white men came in after us and ordered drank and paid before us while we sat at the bar with no help... the crab cake was incredibly salty... the bar tender didn't seem to care to help. I asked if this was a mistake or how it taste he simply shrugged his shoulders!. This place really made me feel bad about being who I am! Top 3 best filets I have ever had. I got it with the blue cheese better (mouth watering) and their french beans as a side were AMAZING! The lobster bisque was Devine and then finished with a vanilla bean Creme brûlée!!! Our server was fantastic too! They do not understand how to set up a table before seating the guests. and they do not know to bring everyone's dish out within a reasonable time of each other...we do want to dine with our companions. We went here for a business lunch, and at these prices, you'd expect better service. But, this isn't the big city, so you make do with what you've got. I have been to places like Morton's and Chops on the quest for the best Filet, but Hennens served up the best Filet that I have ever had in my life. So this was unfortunately our first and last trip to Hennens. With that being said the entree I had which consisted of a steak and mushrooms was out of this world, however my wife's entree which had a crab cake made her violently I'll for several days thereafter. We received a request to do a subsequent review via either the restaurant or perhaps the gift card that was utilized and promptly did such. Next day we received a call from the general manager expressing regret asking to speak with my wife who was too Ill at the time. He said they wished to make it up to us and I suggested he call back tomorrow to speak with my wife. Never received another call back. Then come to find out a mutual friend wife had the tuna there on the exact same night and she took became Ill. I don't believe it was a shear coincidence. read more
