We always stop here for breakfast when we visit San Juan. They have a nice outdoor patio that makes it easy to seat our two families with kids while not worrying about being confined to indoor seating at nearby restaurants. We typically get the Bloody Mary or screwdriver with freshly squeezed OJ. All the breakfast options are tasty. I also tried the espresso martini and it was nice and strong. The kids enjoy the coloring page and kid's menu options. They can also get hot chocolate with whipped cream. Service: Leah has helped us each year we have visited Hennessey's. She is genuinely polite and helpful, and super fast! She makes solid recommendations for their food and drink, and is simply a pleasure to talk to whenever we visit. My husband & I hosted our 40th birthday here! We have nothing but wonderful things to say about our experience. We reserved half of the back patio and it couldn't have been more perfect. The manager Andrew was so easy to work with leading up to and the day of. He advised on best ways to handle food and bev with our 30+ group of friends. The day of Asst manager Mike was our coordinator and he helped to get things set up nicely well before our guests arrived. We did a taco bar and had an open bar cocktail hour with amazing service by Tony, he made sure we were comfortable and happy the whole night. Our friends had a great time! Right in the heart of SJC, this place is a cool little restaurant with a bar. The food is always great! Yesterday we got a fry flight for the table and it was more than enough to share for $11! Great place! Came here twice in the last few weeks - once for breakfast and once for my birthday. Both times we got excellent service (actually from the same server coincidentally) and delicious food. Also it was not at all busy either time. When we've walked/driven by before, it never seems crowded especially from the outside. The space is very large inside and they have a back patio. For breakfast I got the Dublin Benedict with their special potatoes. It was so tasty. But I had my eye on that Burger of the Month - the Irish burger with bacon and grilled onions, plus the Irish Nachos. So just a few days later for my birthday we came back. Plus a bottle of wine. We were out on one of our many adventures when we decided to stop by Hennessys for a bite and a drink - yes the mighty beer lol . We love how they offer great outdoor front and rear patio seating - as well as indoor seating . The indoor bar had what looked like a few locals siting in there chatting with the friendly bartender. We opted to sit outback on the back patio where there were more people and a nice bar as well. We sat down and immediately was greeted by Robin our sever , she was very friendly. We both ordered our drink of choice and checked out their menu, they have a nice selection of sandwiches and salads and hamburgers as well as apps . We went for splitting the calamari and split the Burger Any Way you want it . We just added the Thousand Island sauce to what they already put on the burgers and ordered Med Well and that was it & cut in half as we were splitting it . We received the calamari- I immediately said this is very over cooked and rubbery . I was not happy with it at all . The three sauces were great but the tiny little calamari's were so tough and chewy . My sister didn't want to return them as our server was very nice and we didn't want to make a scene . I personally wanted to see if they could be better. They were eaten and never told the waitress. Again we never mentioned to Robin and had her take it back and have them Re-Cook it for us as we didn't want to make an issue over it there so in all fairness - it may have turned out better . Our burger was good and the fries were good . So if your hungry and want a nice ambiance and a good drink I do recommend Hennessy's as it's not over priced and they have plenty of outdoor seating and they even let you bring Fido to sit with you outside . This is the second Irish pub I've ever been to. I can't really say I'd come here again, but we were in the area and not much was open. My fish and chips were good. The server and management allowed me to order the kids serving because we were ordering so much food, so I wanted to keep the portions in check. My boyfriends French onion could have used a lot more attention. It was one of the first to be brought out, before our pub nachos appetizers and the rush was distinctive in the flavor. The cheese on top didn't look like it was melted enough, and the texture and flavor of the French onion soup wasn't anything special. Pub nachos when they came out were alright. They're nachos. We like nachos, although the quality of them wasn't as good as yard house nachos. These felt like something I could throw together at home. I would skip on the salad next time if there is one. Overall, Hennessey's fed me and I paid + tipped. The experience was average. Not terrible, but not great. read more

I have been going to the SJC Hennessey's since they opened years ago. I am walking distance local and go out quite a bit there and other venues. We were told not to come back yesterday evening because we had illegibly upset long time waitress Robin who had a fresh faced manager named Quintin Ruiz tell us to leave a few minutes after we were served drinks. He stated that we had a record of causing disruptions. When we asked him by whom, what, when and where about the disruptions, he had no answers or response. When I stated that we would leave after we finished our drinks, he said that we have to leave immediately (we did not). I cannot believe that Robin is still working there after the many bad encounters we have had there with her and here rudeness over the past couple of years. The new management needs to fire her always frowning face and let the locals and kids be free of her hateful presence anymore. I am sure there are others who have problems with her bad attitude and invite you to tell your experience about her. read more

He even mentioned to us that he already had a DJ scheduled for the night we requested to rent out the bar and he kept him scheduled at no charge to us which was unbelievable. We rented out the entire inside for 4 hours at a very reasonable price. The food options were perfect for everyone and the service was great while there. They truly made us and our guests night. Hennessey's in downtown San Juan Capistrano is quite the Dive bar gem! It's got the dark dank bar but it also has a great back patio that gets lots of sun. That's the perfect place to hang out on a Saturday or Sunday. Catch the game and get your grub and drink on. We just went recently and they have an Oktoberfest burger with a pretzel bun beer cheese sauce sauerkraut. A bunch of other good stuff. It was f****** delicious. Lady went for the blue cheeseburger with onion rings. Both were fantastic. The other nice thing they have are greyhounds screwdrivers and I think it was mimosas in which they juice the orange or grapefruit to order. Great touch!!! I don't know why this place didn't have a better review. I came by for an after dinner drink/ snack on a random Monday. It looked really empty inside but as you walked through the bar to the back, you'd see a nice outdoor patio area with TV, bar, and plenty of outdoor seatings. It wasn't crowded but there were actually a lot of people. Great service. They have a great selection of beer and other drinks. I didn't try any of the entrees (since I came after already having dinner) but the Irish nachos is a must try (potato instead of chips)! I came here with my family. Was told to seat ourselves so we did. There was 2 other people that just sat down with us as well, but they were waiting for the rest of their party. 10 mins has passed and no one came to check on us for anything. The restaurant was half empty and a musician was setting up his instrument. The rest of the party came for the people sitting next to me. The server went up and took their drink order. Still no service to my family yet. Keep in mind I have a 2 year old and 6 year old thats hungry. We look at the server, and he looks back at us. He went to talk to his co worker and we see them looking at us, so we figured hey they see we haven't been helped. Cool. Another 10 minutes pass amd the server comes back to the party next to us to drop off drinks. I had enough and just left. Very unprofessional not acknowledging us, even though our party was there first amd our whole party was there. Instead they helped the others next to us without checking up on us.
