Disclaimer: we didn't actually get carpet cleaning from Hew's but we had a less-than excellent experience with them leading up to our scheduled appointment. Hew's Carpet Care is one of THE highest rated carpet care companies on Angie's List, to which we subscribe and choose many contractors. Guess we should have checked Yelp first! Hew's owner, named Hugh (yes, yes...) is nice-ish on the phone but a tad unprofessional. My husband and I got the feeling that he not only runs the business, takes the calls, makes the schedule, but also does all the work himself. We were interested in the Angie's List deal but he said it would be better to just pay the same price but in cash - not sure what the point of having an online deal is. The real kicker is that the website pricing says the same - WITH or WITHOUT furniture, which was a deciding factor to go with this company as we weren't going to be able to move furniture around, except for the bed. When Hugh came to clean the carpet today, he called my husband and I - both at work and unable to answer phone calls - to tell us that he had to leave because there was "too much stuff on the ground" and that the carpet had too much dust on it (our tenant had just vacuumed it a couple of days prior to this - no way it could be "too dusty"). I think Hew's needs to clarify what "cleaning with furniture" actually entails, because this is a bit misleading. Hopefully we find a new company that is clear and consistent from the get-go. read more

I was looking for someone to come out and clean my carpets quickly and cheaply. Hew's with their $79.99 coupon and ability to schedule a next day appointment beat out everyone else I called. A word of warning though, there was a "surprise" $15 fuel surcharge that they failed to disclose when quoting me the price. It took about 45 minutes to an hour to do a single/ground level, vacant two room apartment, but the carpets looked brand new when they left. The guy who did the work was pleasant and courteous, but did try to upsell services once he got there. All in all, not a bad experience and I saved a bit of money. read more

I had Hew's pick up 2 Oriental rugs for cleaning, which they did in the time frame they said they would. After waiting 3 weeks, I called to check on the status of the rugs. They told me there were still working on the stains. I said the stains won't come out, please clean and return. I had the rugs for over a week when I finally rolled them out to place in the rooms. The rugs had not been cleaned, and still had pet urine smell. I called, and they picked them up right away. 2 weeks later, I called about my rugs. I got the same line about the stains. I asked if they were a legitimate business, and they said they were....Well, when the rugs were dropped off, we unrolled them, and there was no pet urine smell, and they appeared cleaner. I had the rugs unrolled for a few days before I put them in the rooms they belonged, so I vacuumed them. The vacuum took out 2 bins of powder from the rugs. Now, the rugs smell like "burnt plastic", and I think the urine smells are re-emerging. I spent over $400 and 6 weeks, and my rugs are still not clean. I am afraid if I call them again, I will never see my rugs again. I do not recommend thier service at all. read more

Our building had been using them to clean our dryer vents for years. Most of the time it was fine, but not this year. The day Hew's cleaned our dryer vent, our (nearly brand new) dryer stopped working. We asked (non-Hew's) dryer repairmen, twice, to come out and look at it. The dryer repairmen didn't find anything wrong with the dryer, but suggested that a blocked or dirty vent could be the problem. Luckily, our management company hired another dryer vent cleaning company, who got out a bunch of lint and debris. Hew's had not done a thorough job, apparently. Now our dryer works fine. And I would NOT recommend Hew's to anyone again. read more

We called Hew's to have our carpets cleaned and they came out and gave us a thorough and quite reasonable estimate. I had to postpone twice for various reasons, and they rescheduled without an issue. Hugh came out and spent 5 hours cleaning our carpets and moving lots of furniture by himself. The carpets now look beautiful - what a fantastic job! I highly recommend this company, and Hugh in particular. read more

We're glad we contacted this company for cleaning wall-to-wall carpets in our Woodbridge home. It took the technician most of a day to clean the carpeting in our ten rooms, yet the cost was only $733. That was less than most other estimates. The technician was competent and courteous. When he departed, he left four industrial fans to speed the drying process. He came back for the fans the next day. The carpeting now looks great. read more

If I could give no stars, I would. Showed up 2-hours late for job... went to measure the first room and measurement was a curved line. It wasn't just slightly curved. It curved left, then right... adding several linear feet to the measurement. I asked him to run a straight line and the guy left. I thought he was going to get a tape measure or something...... but no. After a few minutes, I noticed the truck was gone. He just up and left. We used Hews to have our carpet stretched; our basement carpet was installed about 4 year ago and there were many spots that sagged and buckled. Hew informed us that the carpet was installed too loosely. He spent approximately 3 hours in our home, and now it looks great! He said he guarantees his work, so if it sags we'll just give him a call. I highly recommend this company. The owner is professional and very friendly. I poked my nose around for some carpet cleaning deals. I was eager to get someone in to do the job ASAP, so I got a couple estimates and went w/the cheapest one. Since you have to subscribe to Angie's List, I wasn't able to see if the company I hired was going to be any good. Hew's has Saturday hours and also had a coupon: $79.99 for three rooms, plus free hallway cleaning. When I booked the cleaning, the guy on the phone told me to vacuum all the carpets before the appt. He explained that the cleaners wouldn't move large furniture items such as beds and armoires, but that tables, end tables, nightstands, desks, and the like would be moved. I went through the apartment to move stuff off the floor, like lamps, power cords, trash cans, and other small items. When the cleaning guy arrived, he inspected the area and tried to upsell me on some sort of stain-guard, but I declined. He went downstairs to get his machine (very large...very noisy...stays out in the hall, so expect your neighbors to hate you for a while) and came back w/a coworker. I'm not sure why two of them were needed, as only one person could use the machine at the time. Anyway, they went about their business and started cleaning in my roommate's room. They seemed to do an okay enough job in there. The next stop was the living room. I went in after they finished and had already started working on my bedroom. I found that the area underneath the coffee table was totally dry, as was an area of about a foot surrounding a bookcase. The carpet underneath my dining room table (it weighs about 30 lbs.) was completely dry, too. I told the guys that if I'm paying to get my carpet cleaned, I want it ALL cleaned. I was told that small furniture items would be moved, but these guys did nothing of the sort. I, therefore, moved the coffee table. And the dining room table and chairs. I had the guys go back over the areas they fully neglected. They did NOT seem happy that I was asking them to do this. Once they finished doing this, I noticed that they weren't concerned about the wooden table legs or metal chair legs resting on the moist carpet. The company does not send employees out with thingies to put down on the wet carpet to prevent rusting or damaging of wooden objects. Unprofessional. My favorite part of the hour w/the carpet cleaners was when I was nervy enough to ask them to clean UNDER my night tables. I went so far as to move the tables so those delicate flowers (mind you, one of the guys probably weighed about 300 lbs.) wouldn't have to do anything strenuous. I left my room and let them go about their business. While they touched up the living room AGAIN, I went back to my room to check on the areas I'd asked them to clean. The carpet underneath the night tables? It was still dry. The guys actually pretended to clean the carpet, moved the tables back into place, didn't tell me such, and proceeded as if nothing were wrong. WTF, yo? I brought this up to them and told them it was unacceptable. They went back through and did as I asked...but not without a fight first. They told me they could vacuum those areas, but they could not use water, as they'd be putting wood tables right back down on the carpet. Well, they had no problem putting my coffee table back down on the wet carpet, so I'm not sure why this was such a big problem. I bunched up some plastic bags and stuck them underneath my night tables to prevent any sort of problems w/the furniture. I was ready to get the guys out of my apartment. I didn't want to fight anymore. I didn't want to be disappointed anymore. I had intended on tipping each of the guys $10 for moving small furniture and basically doing their job, but because *I* moved my furniture, I gave them each $5. And a slice of homemade Key lime pie (honestly, I shouldn't have, but I didn't want them leaving thinking I was a total bitch). I actually said just that when the guys were leaving. I explained that I expected a high-quality service. I said that I was told small furniture would be moved. I said that I didn't want to come off as a bitch, but I should not have had to ASK the guys to do so many things. One of the guys told me that he hates moving furniture and that I shouldn't have expected him to do that for the price of the service. "I'm not a furniture mover," he said. I should tell Hew's about this, but I don't want to waste any more of my time w/them than I already have. For $80 + $9ish in tax (+ $10 tip), I did get slightly cleaner carpets. I also had to fight w/two men to do their job and do it correctly. On his way out, one of the guys said to request him in the future if I needed my carpet cleaned again. "I'll take good care of you," he said. If the service I received qualifies as "good care," I'd hate to see what Hew's "bad care" consists of. (Also: my roommate later told me that the blanket on his bed was soaked. I told him it was just water and to threw in the dryer. Still, frustrating.) read more

I had a great experience with these folks. I had a 79.99 coupon and already pretty much knew how much room that would cover. He came in and did exactly what he said he was going to do in the ad including taking out some tough stains at no additional cost. He didn't try to up sell me or increase the area he was working on for more money. I didn't get a fuel charge (like one person below said...so maybe they were really far away). The website says 20%off three services M-F, When I called to get three services done, Couch and Love Seat $79.99, Chair $40.00. and Mattress $79.99 each charged as a separate service the man said I was getting one service and would not give me the discount. When I said that was not stated on the website, he got mad and rude. He than hung up on me, saying he did want me as a customer. After seeing the other rating and with my experience,I would NEVER use this company. Also, both address are the same RUDE people. Don't be fooled. They deserve no stars. read more

I was quoted a price of $60 for one area over the phone. When Troy arrived, he wrote up an estimate that came to $280. I asked him to leave and he wouldn't. He assured me that we would come to an agreement on the price. He was very quick to lower the price which leads me to believe that they know they are overcharging customers. After negotiating the price for 10 minutes and me asking him to leave at least 2 more times, I finally agreed to $110 because the man was obviously not going to leave and I was afraid that if I only agreed to pay the original $60 that my carpet would either be ruined or would just end up being wet with no actual cleaning done. I tried calling the company and all I was told is that this is the best they can do as far as price goes. Please, do not use this company. I took a chance after reading the reviews and I regret that so much. I do recommend Heaven's Best Carpet Cleaning. I used them about 6 months ago when I moved out of my townhouse and they did an amazing job. It was affordable and they did the job for the price they quoted. I would have used them again but they had a minimum number of areas that they would do and I only needed one area cleaned. Please, save yourself the grief and stay away from this company. What seems like a good deal is just a cover for screwing you out of your money when they arrive and refuse to leave. read more

I had an appointment with them at 5:30 AM on 7/22 for them to do some work at a rental property. Hugh called me at 4:45 to tell me he was there and no one was there to let him in and hung up. I called him back to let him know I was getting on the highway and would be there in 10 minutes and he told me he was "gone", that he had other appointments and could not wait for me to get there, "not ten minutes, I'm gone man" were the words he used. I found someone else to do the work. He was extremely unprofessional. His coupons make his work cheap but in the end you get what you pay for along with an attitude because you are not paying him enough. I would not recommend him to my worst enemy. read more

The worst service I ever had. I would never recommend them to anybody. I made an appointment to get there coupon deal carpet cleaning and sofa, They came and tryed to upsell everything, it was a 2 rooms for 69.99 and they said I needed a $100 dirt removal which shocked me because instead of 70 buck now it was $170 and second it was 3 month old carpet, Just needed the cleaning to recieve my deposit. The couch coupon was for my loveseat for 69.99 also then they told me it was $130 instead of $70 as stated on the coupon for my SMALL loveseat. I declined the sofa cleaning and all other added charges. I watched them do their 20 min job which they quickly wetted the carpets down and left. I later called the manager which is the owner "HEW" and dispute the work they did, he said " I don't care you didn't purchase the degreasser" which I answered the carpets are only 3 months old and had no spots or stains" and then told him I was going to dispute the charge with my credit card company. He lost it then, he started to curse me out repeating " F*** YOU, F YOU,F YOU" I would never recommend to anybody. I would try a reputable cleaner next time. read more

We have used them four times for carpet cleaning since 2006, and to repair damage and stains (candles, wine). In every instance they are punctual, polite, efficient, and very fairly priced. Hew himself is the best, a gentleman and knowledgable, and he hires good workers. He offers advice on carpet care, and has done extras without extra charge. We live in the District; have a new condo and an old row house; have yet to try them for air duct cleaning, but certainly will in 2012. read more

Hello, I called your company on May 28th at 7:20 pm, and the man who answered the phone was very rude to me. I asked for an estimate for a carpet repair and the person gave me a very wide range from $100-200, so when I politely asked for a more precise estimate and I tried to negotiate the price with him, I asked him if he could do the job for around $120. I was expecting him to give me a better estimate then and give me a counter offer but instead he treated me very bad and said I was wasting his time. I wanted a more precise estimate because 2 other companies offered to do the same job for between $80-90 and the second company between $100-120, but they couldn't come as fast as your company could. So even though I could have really used your services, I won't because of the bad customer service I received from the person who answered my called. I called the number (800) 635-6559 on May 28th around 7:20 pm but I didn't get his name. Then I called again around 7:30 pm to (703) 541-0746 to see if I could talk to a different person and the same man got my call and told me he didn't want my services and that I shouldn't call again. This is the worse carpet business around. Beware of the price hikes and beware of the owner Mr. Hew. I had these guys to come out and clean my carpet and it went from the standard coupon rate of 79.99 to 160.00 because they say that there solution is not strong enough to get out spots "that's how they get you with the deep cleaning" also there is a 15.00 gas fee that they do not inform you of until you get there. Not only were there issues about their pricing but also if you try to contact the owner he will start to talk in a foreign language that you can not understand to the employees. Also, the receptionist "D" will go to bat saying that she said one thing and she really did not over the phone. Their policy should be "absolutely no quotes over the phone even with the coupons" and do free home estimates instead of trying to get over on people. PLEASE anybody that goes through this service PLEASE do not let the technicians see you pull up or go to get something out of your car in front of them because I pulled off before they did "mysteriously when I returned back with a friend my back tail light was bashed in. read more
