Wow wow, not at all what I had expected but was pretty amazed. I usually head to Island Vintage Coffee and Haleiwa Bowls for my acai bowls so I wasn't used to the array of toppings offered at HI Cravings; think condensed milk, nutella, cookie dough, cookie butter, and a wide array of fruits. We opted for the medium bowl which comes with TWO blends- for us, it was acai and coconut sorbet. Though I was hesitant about the sweeter toppings, we went with the flow and decorated the bowl with condensed milk, almond butter and cookie dough. Upon first bite, I thought, "WOAH." This is the ultimate dessert bowl. Had we topped it off with Nutella, it would've hit all the dessert flavors: fruity, chocolatey, creamy, decadent, and light. My second thought was that there was no way I could let my son finish it right before dinner time... he'd be wires for the rest of the evening. If you have a huge sweet tooth and want to really indulge, HI Cravings acai bowls are special treat that's definitely unique to Hawaii. Wanted to rent the truck for a drive by baby shower and gave the date and time of the event. We were then asked if WE could change the time of OUR BABY SHOWER to better accommodate THEIR truck schedule. Excuse me? How unprofessional. A simple "I'm sorry we are unable to make it" would have been enough. But they literally had the nerve to ask someone to change THEIR event time. I'll acknowledge that delivery was offered as an option and although we did not want that and our schedule couldn't work well on that Saturday, like I said above, an "I'm sorry.." would have been enough. It's so disgusting that we were actually asked to change our own event time. I'm all for supporting small/local businesses, but not when they act like this. This isn't a complaint on the truck, workers or product, this is a complaint on management and the audacity they had to ask that question as it lacked professionalism. OH MY GOODNESS this is my most favorite açaí bowl place!! Jessica makes the BEST açaí bowl on Earth!! I had my first açaí bowl ever in Hawaii in 2016 and she had a counter service inside a spa. I've tried other açaí bowls in Cali, DC, and MD and nothing beats HI Cravings in my opinion. I came back this summer 2019 and I was in heaven!! The cookie dough and stuffed strawberries with cookie butter were DELICIOUS!!! The açaí base among with the fruits were so tasty and fresh. The best acai bowls! So good! It's like a semi-healthy dessert. So you feel a little less guilty. LOL. And super filling too. The acai bowls come with generous portions and good variety of fresh fruit and crispy granola topped with acai sorbet and honey and a variety of other toppings (for additional charge). They have other flavors of sorbet as well. I've tried the mango and lychee sorbets and they are both very good as well. I like mixing up the flavors for variety. My neice loves the cookie dough topping as well. But I like it just the way it is, without any additional toppings. Since it's a mobile food truck, they vary on where they go. But if you follow them on Instagram, they usually post where they will be. They have regular hours in town and Kaneohe (Windward Mall lot). This is by far my go to for an açaí bowl fix. I like the fact that they have gone mobile, I no longer have to drive half an hour and their various options! Depending on the days and times they're at different locations. Kaneohe, Ward, Pearl City, Kapeolei, and Ewa. They also have a variety of specials (toppings or sides) and it changes daily. Definitely check that out as well. You don't have to get an açaí bowl they do offer different options for your bowl such as mango, pitaya, strawberry lemonade, coconut, and more.. oh and in different sizes too. My usual is the açaí bowl with either white or reg chocolate chip cookie dough. I also like adding mochi and condense milk. The stuffed strawberries are also really good. HI Cravings is based out of Waipahu (I think) and is often located in Kapolei on the street fronting either Embassy Suites or CS Wo. They specialize in Acai Bowl style desserts. They are open from 12-4 and I believe Mon-sat. Look for the purple and white cargo van. A word of advice is to get there before the lunch crowd. And make sure you know what you want before you get there! PROS: Variety of flavor and toppings oh my! There is so many choices and so many combinations that you can never really get too bored of this place. Basically you can choose your ice cream/sorbet flavor, add toppings such as fruit, nuts, mocha balls and you are set! Or you can go and order a preset combination but mix up the sorbet flavors. I get the "Ola," which has like flax seeds, chia seeds, and goji berries. The sorbet flavors, which act as the base of the dessert, change daily and range from acai, lilikoi, green tea to dragonfruit, lychee etc. Freshness Everything is made to order. None of this premade, machine crap, but hand scooped, hand garnished to your liking. That means in turn that it can be time consuming to make. Write down your order (or your friend's one too) and give it to the lady. I find this easiest so she doesn't forget what you want, since the toppings list goes into like 15-20 options. WORKS IN PROGRESS Freshness With the above in mind, it takes about 4-5 minutes per dessert. there is only one person running the cash register and making the dessert, so expect to wait a while if you are like 2nd or 3rd in line. Also what most people don't mention about this place, is that this van is a favorite of many offices in Kapolei. Why does this matter? Because usually when someone goes out for something (starbucks, jamba, etc) everyone else in the office gives that person their order too. I once waited 30 minutes for a lady who ordered 6 of those acai bowls. Come early , like before they open. Not sure if they have a phone number, but if they did I would pre order it so it's ready when you get down there. Price It's definitely no shave ice or slurpee. These Acai bowls start at $4-5 for the smallest one and more for the bigger ones. But again you get some mega premium ingredients so, if you are chang or poor, don't try this because it is on the pricier side.I try to get one of these every week. I have been following around "JessDaBest" ever since she opened her business in Mehana Kapolei. I had heard about her garage and early mobile days before that but never gone to those points... from Mehana the business grew and moved to Beautiville, I followed there as well. Then briefly at Ka Makana. I have been to all of those locations and the business has always thrived. As the business evolved, so did the name, it is now known as HICravings. Jess has really honed in on her skill and perfected her craft over the years. Although I liked the shops and sit down locations, I think the mobile has always worked. The down side of being mobile is the timing. But with social media updates, I can find a location the truck will be and see if it will line up with my availability. So far I see Kaneohe, Kapolei, Mililani and Pearl City being common spots. The flavors I have tried are the acai, pitaya, and now mango blends. I haven't seen the pitaya in rotation for a while though. I am intrigued by the Mauka and strawberry guava blends but can never catch them. There are so many combinations to choose from, just be ready to pay the price! As it is with a medium bowl (2 choice) dessert bowl the price is $13+tax. I need the fruits and the cookie dough in my life! The kalo and bee pollen are add ons I want to try, but never feel the need to pay extra for. One day I will try the "Native" and just order cookie dough on the side. The prices have definitely been rising, but that's understandable with rising costs of ingredients. Quality has never gone down so that definitely matters. I will continue to follow Jess wherever her business may take her.
