The location is super cute - looks like an old house or something. We went on a sunday morning arpund 930 and waited maybe 15. The menu had a lot of options, it was so hard to choose! I ended up getting the baked eggs with sourdough toast and a side of bacon. The toast came with raspberry jam that was soooo delicious! The bacon was a bit overcooked for my taste, but still good. The flavor in the baked eggs was wonderful , but the yokes were cooked totally hard which isn't my preference. The cheese and everything was great though! Their home fries weren't super flavorful. I have thought about going to the Hi Spot for years and finally made it this morning. It was my very first visit to a restaurant with table service, actually, since before the pandemic (!!!) and I was very pleased. We sat outside near a large heater, which was comfortable on a chilly, yet sunny day. I ordered a "spot on americano," a super yummy treat of americano plus Bailey's. For food, we shared tacos de huevo and a Sammy Sue (bfast sandwich) -- subbing their house-made country sausage for bacon and wheat for sourdough. I REALLY enjoyed the tacos, which had nice chunks of bacon and veggies, generous avocado on top, and a super good chipotle mayo squiggled on top. Love me some chipotle mayo!! I chose salad as a side; it was nice to have carrot, tomato, and cucumber plus greens...not just plain greens/lettuce. The wheat sub for the sandwich was a good move, thick slices and a touch of sweetness. It had eggs, provolone, tomato, lettuce, the sausage and a pesto aioli. I could have used a touch more aioli, but that's basically me all the time...haha. The sausage was a generous patty and quite tasty. I am not sure if the tomato and lettuce did all that much for the sandwich, but it didn't hurt either. The home fries alongside the sandwich were super good and well-seasoned. Kinda liked that in contrast with the fancy modern hipster spots in other areas. 20 min wait on a Sunday at 1230pm. They were out of cinnamon rolls by then :/ I got the spicy corned beef hash. It tasted alright, but not enough meat. It's probably about 2 out of 5 star spicyness to me, which was a bit over what I would personally enjoy. It's a house converted to cafe and restaurant in a mostly residential 'hood. We had brunch upstairs. Yummy food, (and ohmyg-d Maple Syrup from heaven... -well, Vermont, at least.) Great Customer service, EXcellent coffee and they even have wireless. Although, it's probably better to come on the off hours because it's pretty popular. I love, love, love the Hi Spot. When I lived in Seattle we referred to this place as "the good place" and visited it monthly for brunch. Since I was visiting, it was a must for brunch with my friends. It is a bit of a drive, but really not too difficult to find. It is a converted house, the one with the line out the door. They are very kind and you can get a coffee while you wait, they have a full cafe inside. They won't seat you until your entire party arrives, but they will let you sit down if you order for the missing person/people. It is pretty small inside, but it's adorable! The bathroom is also cute and still has a bathtub inside. They have a fantastic and fun menu. I got one of my favorites, the green eggs and ham. I have been adverse to eating eggs lately but these were so fantastic. The pesto is not too overpowering, the bits of ham are delicious and salty, and the mozzarella is creamy and delicious. Just as good as I remembered! It also came with breakfast potatoes and delicious toast. They make their own raspberry jam, which they automatically add to your plate, so great. My husband replaced his toast with a cinnamon roll, which was large enough to share with the entire table! It would have been better warm, but it was good. I have only been here 1 time and I had a fairly good experience. The place looks like it was converted from a 3 story home into a restaurant. You really cant tell there are many people inside, until you get inside, most of the customers are on the 2nd floor, which is where I sat. Pricing is ok, from $9-$13 dollar plates. These dishes do have a very homemade look/taste to them. Just know that this place is only open 8.30am -11.30am (3 hours MON-FRI and 8.30am-2.30pm SAT & SUN. It's not open very long!! The food here is good I give it a 3 star because I was expecting to get blown away (since it's only open 3 hours a day) but I was not blown away. If you want to eat in a place where it looks like a home, but just not your home then come here. Although I see that some of their baked goods did look very yummy, but I did not try them... My review is based solely on coming here on a saturday at about 9.30am. It was Very busy at that time. Overall I would only come to this place if I was in the area. So I don't think their menu has changed for the last decade, and perhaps because it is so busy all the time maybe they think if it isn't broke don't fix it. We go occasionally but I don't really care for anything on the menu. Like I thought their Bengal Benedict was cool because of the "exotic" flair but then when I want smthg else I don't really know what to get even though the menu is not small. There are like 3 different huevos style dishes, a bunch of so-so looking omelets, and unfortunately they serve home potatoes not crispy hash browns. I ended up ordering just your basic 3 egg breakfast this morning with bacon that wasn't so crispy. It was fine. We also had a short stack with blueberries and bananas. My husband's espresso was meh but he is a huge coffee snob. What I want them to do is bring in a cool, millennial, hipster chef to add some sauteed dino kale and fun avacado toast creations to the menu. Basically what I am saying is it's time for an entire menu revamp. The ambience is set in an old house which is nice and cosy, maybe that's why we go back, plus Madrona is a cute area to walk our shiba. Hi Spot is an adorable gem in Madrona. It appears to be a home that was converted into a restaurant and it has that cozy, homey feel. The main entry houses a coffee shop, with delicious pastries. Write your name down on the clipboard at the bottom of the steps and the host will call you when it's ready. Our table or 4 had a 10 minute wait around 10:45AM on Saturday, which isn't terrible for brunch. We had a small table on the middle level, which was a touch cramped but we made it work. The service was fast and efficient. My coffee was hot and delicious. I had the huevos a la mexicana, and it was amazing. The eggs are scrambled with bits of crispy tortilla and topped with cool sour cream and pico. The spring onions really make the dish. If I had any complaint it's that the servings were more than generous. I will strongly consider sharing a meal next time. Overall, an amazing brunch spot in Seattle. read more

If I could give this place 6 stars, I would!!! Walked in at 10am on Saturday morning... They was very busy but there was no wait at all for 2 of us! The staff is so warm and friendly here. The coffee from a local roaster (Fonte) is awesome, their fresh OJ hit the spot. The "round-up" was delicious: eggs, chicken sausage, tomato, goat cheese and basil, served with yummy potatoes. We chose the wheat toast, which is baked in-house, served with a homemade jam (raspberry on this particular day). We also had the blueberry pancakes, which were fluffy and wonderful. I would give this place zero stars if I could. We had a party of 7 & the bill was split between 4 people. They charged more than 30% gratuity on every bill. That was still semi-reasonable although higher than what they deserved for the service. Still continues to be my favorite Sun morning breakfast spot after so many years. There's always a bit of a wait however you can hang out and sip a latte or eat a pastry while you wait for them to call you. The actual seating is upstairs and on a warm day there is additional seating outside. The food is freaking delicious, and whenever we are in town we always come here. I've had the breakfast burrito too many times to count. My boyfriend always orders pancakes. Bacon and potatoes are delicious. Pastries are sooo good. Coffee is great! And service is super friendly. Love this place! It is an adorable brunch spot with indoor and outdoor seating in the beautiful Madrona neighborhood. I went here with a girlfriend on a weekday and while all the tables were busy, we didn't have to wait to get a table. Everything we had here was great - the espresso drinks, the gooey caramel cinnamon was to die for, my omelette and her carne asada rice salad... all fabulous! Definitely recommend this a nice local spot, the price is very reasonable for the quality and generous portions. read more

Really disappointing. I live in the neighborhood and have tried this place several times hoping it would improve. It hasn't. Yesterday was my last visit. Staff is rude and could care less that you are there. We stood in the coffee area for 10 min right by the "wait to be seated" sign before anyone even acknowledged us (and they were not very busy.) The barista finally asked if we were there for breakfast or just coffee and we said breakfast then continued to wait until another non-uniformed employee didn't come down the stairs but literally waved us up to him. We didn't know if he was another patron or a staff member. The woman serving us seemed highly annoyed to be in our presence. Not sure why. We smiled and tried to be friendly to her. She kept walking past my husband who was in his work shirt and tie with trays loaded with food bumping into his shoulder and nearly missing spilling things on him about 10 times during the breakfast. She didn't say "excuse me" once or sorry I sat you directly in our busiest service walkway can I move you. The food was terrible. My omelette was in a pile of oil and the cheese in it was not melted and tasted like flour. Potatoes were dry hard and tasteless. My husbands chorizo scramble was a very unappetizing pile of ground chorizo with a small amount of visible egg under all the orange-colored oil. Dining room was dirty. Tables were dirty and sticky and whole place could use a coat of paint. This place is VERY impressed with themselves, and I have no idea why. Tried this place for brunch for the first time today and it was excellent. It's a cute little place that looks like a house in Madrona. They have the usual brunch fare, and everything is good. I tried the huevos a la Mexicana, which the waitress told me was her favorite thing on the menu. It was delicious! Don't expect actual authentic Mexican anything, but if you like Mexican inspired flavors, you will like this. It has pieces of fried tortilla in the scramble and it was delicious. My friends ordered the green eggs and ham and the breakfast burrito and really loved both dishes. My friend also had a Bloody Mary, which was super tasty. This place is smallish and casual, it has a really fun ambiance. It's very popular, so expect to wait at least 30 minutes on the weekend. The first floor is the waiting area/bakery and the second floor is the main seating. Dishes are about $14 each, so expect to spend $20-25 a person once everything is said and done. Parking is street, but we didn't have any trouble on a Saturday morning. I'd definitely come back here! read more

While waiting an hour for a table last time I was kind of grossed out. I had to sit and watch the barista eat her cuticles for twenty minutes in between making espresso, which entail touching your espresso grinds with her saliva encrusted hands. It was really gross. Had several good breakfasts here. Always fair service every time the waiter or waitress disappears but pops up with that fake extra friendly waiter move right at check time when they remember they have ignored you the whole time and have one last shot at getting a decent tip. read more

Pretty standard and basic place from brunch/breakfast. Went on a Sunday morning at around 10 AM. You have to go inside and pass the coffee bar to put down your name on the waiting list. I was clueless and looking around on what do to, so it would've been nice if someone told me or if there was a sign by the door. Anyways, we were seated immediately and choose the patio seating. We ordered blueberry short stack and potatoes, and banana short stack and bacon. The short stack pancakes were delicious. They were thick and fluffy and will fill you up. Bacon was nice and thick and great quality. The potatoes were subpar and undercooked. Nothing special and was also under seasoned. Will definitely go back and try more items! read more

I'd heard a lot about the Hi- Spot Cafe and was excited when I made it over to the lovely, LOVELY neighborhood of Leschi to partake in what was supposed to be some amazingly tasty breakfast fare. Sadly, we did not find it here. We were seated pretty quickly and brought menus promtply. The service here is a well oiled, tightly run ship. The wait staff is beyond pleasant here; service really doesn't get any better than this. The menu boasted lots of great traditional and Mexican inspired dishes. I'm trying to eat better these days, and so I went with the booooooooring oatmeal. The BF had Three sunny side eggs, toast, potatoes, and chicken sausage. The meal would have been okay, had it been hot. It wasn't. Not at all. I will say that the oatmeal was oatmeal and that the toast is some of the best I've had at a restaurant in a long time. It was whole wheat, not buttered up- so you can do it yourself- and was fantastically dense and crunchy. It reminded me of the bread my dad used to bake, back in the day. Oh, and they serve up a little dish of homemade freezer jam along with it, which tasted like the kind my mother used to make... Ahh, nostalgia. Prices here are fare and the coffee is good, I think the BF just got an 'off dish.' I saw several plates come out of the kitchen, piping hot. We'll give it ago again sometime soon. I've been here twice now and both times I had a great experience. The food is really yummy and I like the homey feel of the place. It's pretty busy on the weekend so be prepared to wait for a table (but that's the case at any good diner). Waitstaff is always friendly. Coffee is delicious. Most recently I had the curry benedict. I think it was just regular eggs benedict but they added curry powder to the hollandaise sauce...and they're very generous with the sauce. One of my favorite breakfast joints. Be wary though friends, this is a place that begs you to be early. With that said, if you don't mind waiting... you can enjoy some of the best food in the area. What I love most about this place is the ambiance. A quaint little breakfast nook in a cute little converted house. I love this joint. The food is some of the best, a mix of classic breakfast platters and some more inspired plates, overall it's so very good. I understand how you just want to keep the downstairs area for coffee and pastries, but I wish they offered some small plate type bites downstairs, like you can order a side of bacon and eggs downstairs (but not the regular platters they serve upstairs). It's Saturday morning and GBF#1 and I wanted breakfast and since I'm currently over all the West Seattle breakfast spots I drag him to Madrona to try The Hi-Spot Cafe. We walk in and Jack Johnson is playing, this makes me happy because I love Jack Johnson. We put our name on the list and grab a seat at one of the cafe tables to begin our wait. We wait and wait some more, I go grab a menu to look at; I change my mind three times. GBF#1 grabs a Stranger and we read that. We wait some more and than just a little more. Forty minutes later we are finally seated at a table that is practically sitting on top of another table. I finally decide to be brave and try something interesting, the Bengal Benedict, basically eggs Benedict but instead of hollandaise sauce it had a curry sauce. GBF#1 went for The Round-Up which was my second choice because goat cheese, tomatoes and basil are always delish. After giving our order we sipped our drinks, we can't really talk because the place is LOUD not someplace to go and have any type of conversation at. I decided it's going to be a while I might as well go to the ladies room to wash my hands so around the maze of tables and up the stairs I went to find a unisex bathroom with a claw foot tub in it. I love it when I go places and there are showers and tubs in the bathroom it always cracks me up. I head back downstairs and low and behold my food has already arrived! First bite, hmm interesting, second bite wow, third bite, boy this is good stuff. I was glad I went out on a limb and ordered the Bengal Benedict it exceeded my expectations. GBF#1 enjoyed his Round up as well. The service was good but I seriously have to knock a star for the wait and the loudness and the sitting on top of the people next to me it kind of kills the mood, the food however was great. One of the first things I thought, and probably most people think, upon entering The Hi Spot Cafe for the first time is that a meal here is like dining in someone's house. Someone's house that isn't yours, where you don't have to bring a dish or help clean up - just pay a premium for the charm and wait in the cafe foyer while the hosts frantically make the dining area presentable for company. As a result of it being a small house, not accepting reservations, not serving food downstairs which eliminates about a third of their customer floor space, and located in one of the closest things to a cohesive older neighborhood in Seattle where people have weathered the recession and still go out for breakfast with family and friends regularly, the wait is long - 10 of us waited almost an hour starting at 8:40am on a Saturday, and there was definitely a line of smaller tables by the time we left. In keeping with the motif of the old school American home, The Hi Spot offers American comfort brunch food with minor flairs. Unfortunately, the food was the weakest portion of the home. The chorizo scramble (~$11) was more mild (comfortable?) than I was expecting or hoping but at the same time comfortably inoffensive. The cinnamon bun (~$3) was the simple standout - no toxic icing, no single overpowering flavor and mountainous enough to justify the expenditure. If I drank coffee and was in the neighborhood after enough exercise to warrant a cinnamon roll, I'd stop by the downstairs cafe area for one, but the only way I'd come back here is when I need a safe candidate for bringing the easily discomforted family - I don't expect them to love it, but since nothing will be out of place they won't mind it either. (If a date required such coddling, it'd be time to find someone a little less comfortable.) read more

Have been going for years and always loved it, but was VERY disappointed by service and food on a recent visit: Went on a week day for my birthday breakfast. Wanted to order the baked eggs, which are my favorite. Was told it was too late and they stopped serving them at 11.30am. It was 11.35 when we were seated and 11.40am when I ordered. The waitress went to the kitchen to double check, my friend even let them know it was my birthday. She came back from the kitchen with a 'NO'. Adding insult, the table next to me was delivered baked eggs in this time frame. My friend and I ordered the smoked salmon omelet instead. It was awful! The salmon was this pinkish white color and tasted horrible, Both of us picked at our food and left with a very bad experience. Always a bad move when a business will not make an exception with the customer in mind. That is a deal breaker for me, will not be returning. read more

Eh. Tip for restaurants: you really should try to accomodate large groups. This includes, but certainly is not limited to: 1) Accepting reservations 2) Splitting the bill for the group. This makes it easier for you and for your customers! I'm absolutely horrible with math, and now that I recalculated things, I think I screwed up with my math. I hate when this happens because I want to pay my fair share of the bill! Even if your "system" doesn't allow splitting of the bill, at least make it easier for people to read and understand the charges bill instead of "3x suchandsuch dish." It was still early, and these things make my head want to 'splode. 3) If there are empty tables in your "non-serving area" - use them for a group 4) Don't make the group wait for over an hour 5) Don't "generously" give yourself a 20% tip for groups. I understand the need to add tip for groups, but make it 15%. That's the standard. If service was above par, people will tip you more. The decor was ... very Madrona. It really does remind you of visiting someone's grandmother's Victorian house in the historic district. The service was prompt (once we were seated) and friendly. I was actually surprised at how fast our food came out after they took our order. We spent more time waiting for our table than we waited for our drinks and food to arrive. I ordered the French toast. It was alright. I've had better, and I've certainly had worse. The cinnamon roll was good, but it was mostly just cinnamon and roll - no icing, no pecans, none of that jazz. But it was tasty all on its own! If someone in the group orders the French toast, use the almond butter on the cinnamon roll. It works! The complaint I heard around the table was mostly with the meat and egg dishes and the lack of meat. There didn't seem to be a whole lot of meat mixed in with those dishes. The other complaint was with the prices. It was a little on the pricey side for a breakfast place. $9.95 for 4 slices of French toast, and $11-12 for any egg dish.
