Wow! It is worth the wait for breakfast here. I had the spicy corned beef hash and is was delicious not too spicy. I had my eggs cooked over easy and they were cooked perfectly. I brought my own gluten free bread and they were really nice and toasted it for me. Bought is out with my plate of food so it was warm. We were ready to order when we sat down, and our food came out quickly. The service was great my water glass stayed full almost the whole time. Call ahead to get your name on the list! read more

Great cafe with good coffee and standard diner food but done really well. I love the Huevos a la Mexicana with crispy tortillas mixed in. Green eggs & ham is also good. Having a good brunch option on a weekday is much appreciated. Wish they served pancakes all day though. Or some other breakfast pastries. They always seem to be out unless we go pretty early. This has been our favorite spot during our visits from Minnesota. Last Friday, however, it was not the same. Four of us were eating. Sausage was forgotten for one of us and didn't come until he was almost done. He ordered three eggs, scrambled, and it was very obviously two eggs. My husband asked three times for warm syrup and was told, "Of course, no problem." Seconds later, cold syrup was brought to the table. There were many hard potatoes in the fried potatoes. The server dropped a full compote of jam next to our table and it was never cleaned up until we were leaving and we mentioned someone was going to slip in it. The café was half empty, so that wasn't the reason for the mistakes. read more

The food and vibes were amazing! Only thing is we were a large group and they have a old payment system. They were very nice and split the bill in 4 ways. One of the young people out of our group wrote on the receipt "get a better pay system" we all didn't agree with him doing that but it is was it is and didn't know he even did that till after the fact. We were told by the server in groups of 6 or more gratuity is included. Our group separated and started walking to the car where the host of the restaurant ran after us started yelling and said "wow no gratuity" and we told him we were told it was included and then he said well who wrote that on the receipt and we told him the person was no longer with us. I'm not okay with anyone running after me and yelling and being accusatory. That ruined everything and now I will never be back at establishment that lets their employees do that. read more

Cute little restaurant, lively and not surprisingly busy for Sunday brunch. Did not really mind waiting the 30+ minutes as my friend and I caught up and had some good coffee. The seating was a bit awkward--not a lot of space, high traffic, and at the foot of the stairs. Wait service was great, food and drinks were delicious--I highly recommend the Tacos de Huevo. The only drawback was the noise level. Probably due to this being a big, old house, but a little hard to have a conversation. Perhaps look into somehow upgrading the acoustics? This place is truly delish. I've come here every day this week for lunch and ordered something different each time. Huevos Rancheros, egg burrito, and the blueberry pancakes with fresh almond butter (butter made with almond) were all worth coming back for. It's been a while since I've been at Hi Spot since I moved to Burien a few years back. But, today I came back and nothing has changed here, except for the better. The atmosphere is the same and I found the Huevos a la Mexicana is even better with a larger portion than I had remembered and the Bloody Mary is one of the best; actually came with a stalk of celery which I never see anymore. First review I have ever posted on yelp - this experience was so bad I felt compelled. Came in for breakfast at 11:00am today on 11/18 and put our name down for a table for two. We Got some coffee and waited. After about 20 minutes we noticed the hostess seating groups that came if after us. We let her know that we were passed up and she said she would seat us next, then proceeded to seat another group of 2 ahead of us literally 3 minutes later, which was super frustrating to see, She apologized, we waited another 15 minutes without a single name called and left. Spent about 45 minutes in there to not get served. Will not be coming back and cannot recommend. read more

My favorite breakfast place in Seattle - this is a small neighborhood breakfast / coffee / pastry place located in an old house in Madrona. They have the usual bacon/sausage/ham and eggs, as well as things like green eggs and ham (pesto), various Benedicts, and really good poached eggs. I've been a regular for years, and keep going back. Sad to say, their famous cinnamon roll sticky buns (huge and delicious) are no longer available. read more

Been coming here several times for a nice breakfast / brunch. Reliably very tasty and excellent menu options. During the pandemic I was happy to be a customer. Heated outside seating was provided and we were greeted by the owner who gave us free pastries! I recently had the avocado toast--2 portions each with and egg, basil, and lovely salsa verde. My daughters love the breakfast sandwich and the breakfast tacos. Drip coffee and well-made specialty coffee drinks are available. The wait staff is attentive and service is excellent. Love it. They partner with Macrina Bakery (another personal favorite) for their pastries and baked goods. Coupled with their excellent pancakes and egg dishes, there is a rather remarkable range of breakfast options for this cute little former home in the Madrona area. Special shoutout to their roasted breakfast potatoes...delicious, crisp red potatoes that come with most egg dishes. The RoundUp (a chicken sausage scramble with goat cheese) was a big hit. Their straight-up ham and eggs was just as good...featuring three eggs, the afore-mentioned potatoes and toast, it is a big breakfast meal. October Yelp Breakfast Club hosted by Vicki L (Vicki made brownie for everyone). It was in a nice and quiet neighborhood. There's a lot of street parking. This cafe was cozy. When we were there, it was packed. We waited a while to get a table for 10. My impression of the seating was uncomfortable. I seriously think it's not easy for this place to handle a large group of people. It was really crowded. The food was ok. I thought it was midiyoker. Service was ok (it could be because it was busy). When the bill came, they've already added 20% tips on top of it. read more

I love having breakfast here! The service is spot on and they allow you to get half orders of their dishes. So far I've tried the french toast and the corned beef hash (referred to as Hash It Out on the menu). I loved both. When I was in last time I also had a bite of my husband's Chorizo Scramble and it was really good too. I may have to order that next time or the Huevos a la Mexicana which seems to get high praise as well. The restaurant itself is really cute. It's located in the quaint Madrona neighborhood and situated in a converted craftsman house. When you enter the restaurant, there is also a barista who is available to make espresso drinks to go and the option to purchase fresh baked goods (also to go). It's really just not that good anymore. This used to be the go-to place for brunch. Really one of the few in the Madison Park/CD/Madronna area. But that was a long time ago. Now there are plenty of choices and this place is really just riding on reputation. It's still packed but I think that's more out of habit than anything else, The menu has barely changed in 10 years, The cinnamon rolls are still good but most everything else is forgetable.I had corned beef hash recently and the potatoes were barely cooked and the whole thing was bland.some of the staff are great, some seem bored to tears. And they really do nothing to manage the huge crowds that pile up downstairs. If I'm going to stand around for 20 minutes the food better be something I can actually remember eating 2 hours later. I purposely ate at Hi-Spot and wrote my review before reading any of the other reviews. My take is that the ambience in this old-house-converted-into-a-restaurant is not necessarily creepy, but certainly quirky. When I entered and requested a table, the barista who acknowledged me nodded at a woman she was chatting with, who was sitting at a nearby snack bar drinking an iced coffee drink. Without a blink or pause in her conversation, the coffee-drinking lady rang a bell on some macramé thing that was hanging by her. Nothing else happened for a few moments. Johnny Cash's "Ring of Fire" was playing on the sound system. So after a minute or two, the barista nodded again, and like Pavlov's dog, the other lady rang the bell again. Shortly, a heavily tatted girl appeared from upstairs and took me to a table upstairs. She took my order. As I waited for my meal, I looked around. I could look out a door into the outdoor seating area. It seemed a little tacky with a Coleman water jug and ice chest sitting there on a table. As I watched two other heavily tatted women taking orders to their tables, I heard the Latina chefs chattering in Spanish in the kitchen area behind me. My breakfast - a pancake, two fried eggs and bacon was mostly decent. While the portion of bacon was generous, it didn't have a lot of flavor. And, the little ceramic cup containing the maple syrup didn't have a very good spout, because the syrup mostly poured down the side of the cup and not onto the pancake. I also had what was supposed to be an orange poppyseed scone. I'm pretty sure the microwave-blasted one I received was lemon poppyside, but it was still okay. When I left, they were still playing Johnny Cash. This time it was "Daddy Sang Bass" (and Momma sang tenor). read more

This solid breakfast spot in an old converted Victorian house in Madrona is a good antidote for a periodic case of the San Francisco homesick blues. In San Francisco, I lived in Cole Valley for a long time, with its climbing streets of Haight Ashbury history, gorgeous painted ladies, and several casual, easygoing breakfast gems. Hi Spot reminds me of some of these, in its low key vibe, its rickety old house feel, and its meandering, twisting Victorian corridors. It makes for a quaint but crowded feel for breakfast, cozy, packed in and clapboard-y. There are some good cheesy egg items on the menu (I like a couple of the Mexican egg dishes), a few tofu options (righteous hippy vibe, check!) and very big portions. Coffee is good, wait times are painfully long (oh, how I remember that as a regular SF breakfast goer, ouch!) and service is friendly. Serious nostalgia in this unusual setting for me, and a solid, reliable brunch You'll find great patio outside for brunch in the sun, should you be lucky enough to get that chance here in the misty Emerald City. The location is super cute - looks like an old house or something. We went on a sunday morning arpund 930 and waited maybe 15. The menu had a lot of options, it was so hard to choose! I ended up getting the baked eggs with sourdough toast and a side of bacon. The toast came with raspberry jam that was soooo delicious! The bacon was a bit overcooked for my taste, but still good. The flavor in the baked eggs was wonderful , but the yokes were cooked totally hard which isn't my preference. The cheese and everything was great though! Their home fries weren't super flavorful. I have thought about going to the Hi Spot for years and finally made it this morning. It was my very first visit to a restaurant with table service, actually, since before the pandemic (!!!) and I was very pleased. We sat outside near a large heater, which was comfortable on a chilly, yet sunny day. I ordered a "spot on americano," a super yummy treat of americano plus Bailey's. For food, we shared tacos de huevo and a Sammy Sue (bfast sandwich) -- subbing their house-made country sausage for bacon and wheat for sourdough. I REALLY enjoyed the tacos, which had nice chunks of bacon and veggies, generous avocado on top, and a super good chipotle mayo squiggled on top. Love me some chipotle mayo!! I chose salad as a side; it was nice to have carrot, tomato, and cucumber plus greens...not just plain greens/lettuce. The wheat sub for the sandwich was a good move, thick slices and a touch of sweetness. It had eggs, provolone, tomato, lettuce, the sausage and a pesto aioli. I could have used a touch more aioli, but that's basically me all the time...haha. The sausage was a generous patty and quite tasty. I am not sure if the tomato and lettuce did all that much for the sandwich, but it didn't hurt either. The home fries alongside the sandwich were super good and well-seasoned. Finally, it's worth saying that the service was good, attentive, and very safe. I appreciated their commitment to social distancing and masks, so that's a huge deal. I'll be back! read more
