My rating would be a 3.5, but we can do halves here. We got takeout from this restaurant when we were in Raleigh. It was very close to where we were staying and reasonably priced. My husband went to pick up the food, and it was pretty good. We had a generous amount of ginger and yum yum sauce to go with our four meals. Everything for the most part was cooked on point except my steak which was well done. I am a medium rare gal. The downside to this place is the outside. We went to the Food Lion in the plaza the next day and left out of another entrance that went by where my husband got the hibachi. There was at least ten guys out front. I don't want to judge, but I'll just say if it was me who went to pick up the food I wouldn't have even gotten out of my car. I believe there is a vape or smoke store next door and perhaps that is part of the issue, but that is what makes this a lesser rating. Feeling safe while getting your food is pretty important. As many reviews state, a major concern is the atmosphere and is for the most part, correct. However in my experience growing up in Raleigh, it is just a ghetto city in general. The hibachi foods tastes great along with their white sauce/yum-yum sauce. This isn't a place I would recommend eating inside, The tables are sticky and just doesn't feel clean. The woman's bathroom is just unpleasant being in and the silverware dispensary is questionable. I would recommend ordering ahead to pickup, as the inside of the restaurant gets very crowded when ordering or eating in. Their food is really good my favorite is chicken and shrimp. Hibachi I've been eating here for a while and the place has been renovated. It's nice and clean also no one hangs out in front of the store since renovation I would definitely recommend. I've been on a quest for good, cheap takeout hibachi food and...that quest continues. After reading positive reviews on Reddit and otherwise, I decided to try this place despite the rough outside appearance. The staff was nice and polite, but the few customers inside were not amazing and I watched one lady allow her son to ask the overworked staffer for a water cup and then fill it with soda. The two of them, along with her teenage son, laughed after and refilled it twice while I was waiting for my takeout. Ignoring that, I ordered a plate of the hibachi chicken and one of hibachi steak. The food itself was about on par with a typical food court Japanese spot (but not as good as Sarku in Crabtree mall). The price was fine, but not cheap enough to justify the location or people I had to deal with. I feel bad for the staff because they were very nice and polite. Still, I won't be rushing back. I absolutely love this particular Hibachi 88 on Poole Rd in Raleigh. I called about 25 minutes before closing and they still took my order and it was fresh and hot when I picked it up. I always order the Hibachi chicken and shrimp for myself and Hibachi chicken and steak for my husband. They were both delicious. The meat, rice and vegetables are proportioned well and you get a great amount of food. I also like that they have a reward card, after purchasing so many meals, they offer a free meal. I live in Garner where there is another Hibachi 88 and it is nothing like the one on Poole Rd. If you are in Garner it is well worth driving the 7 miles to Poole Rd. I used to come here for work lunch now and then and it was alright but today I went for the first time in probably a year or more and they must have improved something about their chicken or the cooking process. The chicken was so good, I hesitated to put any sauce on even though that's usually the main reason I'm craving hibachi take out. The hibachi chicken that I had today was really good. You get quite a bit of food too. I was quite satisfied with the price point and the quality. This is usually not the case with Hibachi places. The rice was slightly sticky which I enjoyed. Vegetables were cooked just right with a slight crunch and the white sauce is so good. Actually the veggies were so good that I wished I had ordered Veggie Hibachi instead. The chicken is tasty but they really know how to cook the veggies.The lunch comes with soup or salad. I opted for the salad and really liked the ginger dressing. I wish this place was near my house, whoops, not really, I'd make too many excuses to eat here. I hadn't heard a thing about this place before I wandered in there for lunch one day. I wish I'd found it sooner! Lunch -- hibachi chicken and veggies with rice and a soda -- was $7 even. The chicken was lean, white meat and it had a great flavor. Thankfully the white sauce was proper (not sweet -- I hate that) and the ginger sauce was good. Hidden in a rather busy strip-mall (right behind KFC) Hibachi 88 offers decent Lunch specials. Hibachi Chicken with Veggies, a side of meso soup, and a fountain drink for just $7...excellent value. Decent portion sizes to boot, and the classic hibachi taste will not disappoint. The interior is pretty bland, and most of their business seems to be for carry-out orders, but they do have inside seating. Sanitation Rating was 99%, which is excellent. The food was GREAT but the wait was not, lol. I went on my lunch break with limited time and had to wait about 15 minutes to get my food after ordering. This is a place where you definitely need to call your order in advance. The food was really good though and steaming hot once I got it. Not the best hibachi I've ever had but it hits the spot.
