Love the sweet caramel brew from here. It's my go to. The cafe itself is pretty tiny but they have a couple seats by the window.

I got the honey bee latte: the cinnamon and honey notes were perfect with the fragrant and creamy coffee. Also tried some of their pastries. The pistachio doughnut is light, not too sweet, and a great pair with the latte. The interior is very cute with plants and a modern look. There's minimal seating inside the shop, but the staff is so sweet. Definitely recommend this shop!

Have tried and liked their other locations in NJ, and was happy to see one open downtown. Cold brew is fantastic. Will be back to try more drinks (I love their iced taro latte) and pastries!

Recommend trying the ginger chai and masala chai with their regular milk (made fresh on the stovetop). I wasn't a huge fan of the consistency and flavor of the oat milk they use so if you can handle the dairy get regular milk! They also have gulab jamun donuts and other pastries. This location is smaller than their other ones but glad they finally have a spot in Manhattan!

My love affair with HG began in 2022; I attended a Yelp Elite Event at the Williamsburg location. The event catered to three obsessions for me: Williamsburg, Chai and heavenly pastries. It was there that I met the owner, Anand and was impressed with his courteous disposition and that made a huge impression on me. Today, I decided to visit the East Village location; on a rainy day off I needed the warmth of HG's chai and hospitality. I noticed a familiar employee from Williamsburg, Chels. I asked about the new coffees I read that HG is offering: Colombia Honey and Ethiopian Yirgacheffe.which this location did not carry. No worries, I'll plan a trip to Williamsburg to try them..I then decided to try the Brown Sugar Matcha and a bagel with scallion cream cheese. The matcha was expertly made, however, the taste was just not to my liking. I hardly tasted the brown sugar. To be fair, I'm not a huge matcha lover and I'm trying to acquire a taste for it. The bagel with scallion cream cheese was scrumptious; the scallion cc had such a delicious taste and so fresh!!! Absolutely worth the cheat!! This location is one fourth the size of Williamsburg ( I love the umbrella adorned ceiling at Bklyn location) and a very small dining area but very cozy on a rainy day. The one consistency is the customer service: top notch and the personnel always make me feel welcomed. Just great! Special shout out to Chels and Mo. And... Anand. the mark of a true great leader is through his people, service and product. Hidden Ground excels at all three! HG: take R train to 8th St NYU stop. Exit through Astor Place and Bdwy, left at Lafayette and you are there!

Came across this coffee shop through instagram. A follower kept posting about the New Orleans cold brew. It is made with chicory coffee. I am still unsure what chicory is but I was heaitant to taste it as it has notes of nuttiness to it I was told. I told the barista about my nut allergy so we went back and forth debating if it was a good idea I get it. So at first I ordered just a regular iced latte and then I said I would buy the viral drink just to taste it. When I took a small sip I knew it was not for me. Oh well. The Barista was nice enough to wipe the machines down as she knew about my allergies. At first when I walked into this coffee shop I was surprised about how small but cute it was. There was no one at the counter for a few min that I was there. I was a bit confused and thought it was a place to only order from a qr code or something. But then finally someone did come out. She was very nice I will say. This coffee shop has more than just coffee. They have pastries and actual food as well.

Great place for chai and addition to the neighborhood. Here's what you need to know: 1. Small place with local pastries with incredible flavors 2. Stovetop chai is an option... this is not a drill! 3. Honestly better quality and more variety than some of the other chai places that have popped up recently. 4. Limited seating. Meant to be more grab and go.

Might be my new favorite iced coffee in the city! So many unique menu items that we'll have to try next time, including chai but also taro and matcha drinks! We had the sweet caramel and New Orleans style brew and they were both incredible!!! Both were lightly sweet and deeply nutty and creamy and just delicious! The barista was efficient and friendly and recommended the sweet caramel brew for me. Just wish they had a couple more locations uptown, but it's still worth the trek

I absolutely loveeeeeeee their New Orleans cold brew! It is so good. I come here whenever I want to treat myself. This time I brought my sisters to try their drinks and sweets. We tried their rose and pistachio donut (liked the rose one more) and their lavender cinnamon croissant. You should definitely share these as they're pretty sweet and heavy but they are pretty good! I've also tried their blueberry donut in the past and enjoyed it. In terms of their service, the last time I came the girl at the front desk was not as friendly and seemed to be bothered when I asked for a straw/ napkin but this time there was a new employee who was super friendly and happy to answer questions.

Randomly stopped by this place while walking and I'm so glad I did! The iced rose chai and rose cardamom donut were both delicious! I will go back and try some of their other items and donuts next time. I still dream about the donut...

very small modern coffee + chai shop. there are a couple seats by the window and standing room for a few people. this Hidden Grounds is very much a grab-n-go location for your chai, coffee, and small bites needs. there's a touchscreen to order, i didn't use it and ordered directly with the barista...i find touchscreens in a place to be impersonal and weird especially in a coffee spot. if i was going the whole "minimum contact"--i'd just order via an app if available. however, i get why there is a touchscreen especially if there's a line or busy, but coffee is personal and requires some interaction like asking what the coffee roast is or extra water in an Americano etc. stopped in, recently. ordered a black Americano hot and it was solidly good and warmed me up on one of the cool Fall afternoons. the coffee was a medium roast, I believe. pretty smooth and does the job of caffeine + warmth in 12 oz. there's also a few small food items like a variety of donuts and a cheddar biscuit--definitely will be back to try one of those at some point. the staffer was personable and friendly. worth a stop by if you're in the Astor Place vicinity and needs some caffeine or calories OR both.

The cookies themselves were really solid though. Nice light crisp around the edges with a chewy center without being overly gooey or underbaked. Definitely on the thicker side too, which I liked. The Jeju Green Tangerine Matcha honestly just tastes like a tangerine selter drink but in the best way, because I don't typically enjoy seltzer or carbonated beverages. I really enjoy the flavor and the carbonation isn't too strong, probably because I brought it home to drink. I don't really taste the matcha but I would definitely still order this again. 2. Matcha Einspanner. This is my first time having an Einspanner so I have no idea what I was expecting but this is DELICIOUS. It's so silky and smooth and the TASTE is just right up my alley. The matcha is light but you can still taste it. Absolutely, would drink this all the time if I could. 3. Purple Sweet Potato Latte. This. This. Omg, why haven't I tried this sooner?! The first sip and initial taste, I almost tasted nothing, just milk. And then all of a sudden, there's an explosion of flavor in your mouth. As a sweet potato lover, I was in heaven. I have absolutely no words for this drink, just try it. 100/10 recommend. This is probably my favorite one out of the 3 that I bought. I went around ... 2:45PM on a Friday and most of the seats were taken, if I remember correctly. There were a decent amount of seats and the space was decent. I liked the minimal aesthetic they had for the design of the interior. Not to forget, the staff at the register was absolutely wonderful, she answered all my questions, she's so sweet. I think I'm disappointed that I haven't tried this place sooner. Y'all get out of your comfort zone and try the Purple Sweet Potato Latte !! Or if not, just try this place out. I ordered an iced matcha einspanner ($6.95) with oat milk ($0.75) and loved that it already comes with a shot of espresso, so it was essentially a dirty matcha einspanner. I tried each layer on its own before mixing everything together and it was all really good. The matcha cream is the right amount of sweet and creamy and you can taste the matcha with just a hint of coffee. Since I'm a coffee fiend I added a bit more espresso when I got back to the hotel and it tasted even better while still keeping the matcha as the dominant flavor. Next time I would ask for less ice since it was freezing that morning, but on a warmer day the ice level would be perfect. Would love to come back to try their other drinks or order the einspanner again as a hot drink.

I probably never leave reviews in general, especially negative ones, but this experience was so…read moreegregious that I honestly felt like I had to say something. I've worked in restaurants and bars long enough to understand that staff drinking happens, but this was on another level entirely. I came in with a group of friends and one of the bartenders, Will, was so visibly drunk that it made the entire experience uncomfortable. Slurred speech, wobbling behind the bar, taking orders while chewing food with his mouth open -- it was honestly embarrassing to watch. He looked like he absolutely did not want to be there. At one point, my group had been trying to get his attention for another round for quite a while while he stood around talking with coworkers. We then watched staff take a shot together, and when he finally came over he burped mid-conversation and literally had whatever he had just been drinking dribbling down his neckbeard. That was the moment where the whole thing went from unprofessional to just gross. What made it worse was that it didn't seem isolated to one employee. Throughout the night we watched staff openly taking shots and drinking behind the bar like it was a house party instead of a business. There's a difference between bar culture and complete lack of professionalism, and this crossed that line hard. One of the friends I was with actually frequents the DUMBO location and said that the last time she was there, the same bartender also seemed intoxicated, which makes this feel less like a bad night and more like an ongoing issue. The DUMBO location itself is in an amazing spot, which makes it even more disappointing. But ownership seriously needs to get control of what's going on there before someone gets hurt or the place develops a reputation for having drunk staff on the clock. Unfortunately, the experience was uncomfortable enough that my girlfriends and I won't be coming back. I genuinely hope the employee mentioned gets help if this is a regular thing, because nobody should be working service in that condition.
