We had breakfast here this morning, and we were pleased beyond expectation! The food was fabulous (I highly recommend the Lemon-Ricotta pancakes) and the view of the Pacific Ocean was beautiful. Our server was JACOB, who checked on us frequently to make sure all was okay. When we left, we forgot our bathing suit on the the chair. Jacob ran after us with suits in hand. What an adorably perfect spot for brunch! It's all about the vibes and the ocean view at High/Low. For the sake of managing expectations, I will say that the food is not the most impressive. I got a salmon scramble, which was nothing more than chopped up lox atop some scrambled eggs. Literally. And there was nothing banana pancake about the banana pancake. My friend surmised that maybe it was a plantain pancake; more bitter than sweet. That sounded right. Also, there was nothing banana bready about the banana bread, but I didn't mind it. I liked the chewier texture - like fudgey brownies vs cakey. I wonder if we got gluten free versions of both banana items. What have they got against bananas around here though? We didn't taste much of it. Honestly though, none of the food mishaps bothered me in the least! Vibes over food for me. We had the beautiful scenery, fun outdoor seating, some mimosas, and lovely company. An absolutely delightful breathing space in the middle of the week. I was one giddy SoCal gal! We sat outside and there must of been a bee hive somewhere close because there were bees visiting a few tables and ours. Shrimp sandwiches were really good! Sitting outside, yet block on way so despite being in front of ocean/pier, cannot see it. Lunch 1 week later: Calamari fried: 10/10. So good! We ordered it twice in the same sitting. Shrimp ceviche tostada : 6/10. Very average and have had way way better. Would not order this again. Ordered a Vietnamese dish with noodles, cashews, lettuce, delicious chicken, or pork, a delicious sweet Vietnamese light sauce, with veggies... All deconstructed on the same plate that you put together... Not currently on the menu online. 7/10. It was good and I might order it again, but it's not something that I really think about anymore, despite eating it yesterday. The service at lunch was seriously disappointing. They brought us the first calamari dish, just dropped it on the table, and walked away without even realizing that nobody had a fork or a knife... No utensils to eat. Nobody came over to even ask for 20 minutes! We had to stop our waiter and let him know. That was the worst part of our experience. We barely had any help and that's what makes this place a bad experience. It's oceanfront, and it has so much potential, but it fails because, even if you're sitting outside, you can't see the ocean, and most cases, and the food is good, but nothing to write home about, and the service just fails on all levels, especially for us who come from Las Vegas. This is why it is only getting three stars. Would I recommend it? William was super accommodating from the time we first inquired about whether they could accommodate us, through checking in on us before the hour of the event, to managing the entire operation during our time here. He and his staff bent over backwards to make sure everything ran smoothly, our party was comfortable, and that orders were taken accurately and efficiently. The food and drinks were delicious. Looked up all day breakfast/brunch restaurants and this came up, a long with reviews that confirmed it. Went around 4pm but what I didn't know is that they stop serving breakfast at 3pm and have a very small "sunset" menu from then until close. Great location, staff is nice but take a while getting to you. We got nachos that were good but they $20 and didn't even come with meat. Not a bad location but very pricey. We were very disappointed as Hi/Low is usually one of our favorite breakfast places to go to in Oceanside. We order Toes on the nose every time, and we've noticed the quality of the food gradually going down hill. The waffles were so ridiculously thin today, that they should have been embarrassed to serve them! Seriously you could stack them on top of each other and it wouldn't be as thick as a normal one! Crazy! Another problem we had today was with the annoying flies and bees. While we were waiting for our order, they were bringing out fresh baked pastries and I pointed to her fresh chocolate croissant, her favorite, and as we were leaving they offered one to her. She loved it. The chocolate croissant was delicious: soft and chewy inside and crispy on the outside. The waffle is amazing: it soft and chewy with a slight of crispness on the outside. My party of 3 came to High Low on Sunday afternoon. When we checked in, the hostess let us know that the wait would be 40 minutes for a table outside, we said okay great. Once our table is ready the hostess says "oh no, I messed up - I put you as inside!" Since we didn't want to wait for another 40 minutes, we get seated all the way in the back next to the kitchen. Great start. Once we are seated our drinks are ordered and it takes another 20 minutes to order the food after that. To make things a bit longer, my friend ordered the frittata, which they shared doesn't come out quickly. We ordered the huevos rancheros, frittata, and the Cobb salad. The food was okay, but the Cobb salad had vinaigrette instead of ranch? All in all a "meh" experience, especially since the staff messed up on where we were supposed to sit. read more

Me and my friend ordered green juice of some unknown origin for $8 each which I thought that was a rip off. The banana bread was not very warm and didn't have a lot of flavor so I only ate 3/4 of it. The Hi-Lo Cafe is part of Oceanside Rejuvenation program. Right on the boardwalk next to the Oceanside Pier and attached to the Mission Pacific Hotel, this place offers a great spot for breakfast and lunch. It's also adjacent to the famous Top Gun house, which was moved several years ago to this current location. The menu has some unique breakfast offerings which are very good, as are the Bloody Marys. The Cardiff Crack Hash is a delicious combination of Black Pepper Tri-Tip, Poached Egg, Potato, Onion and Chimichuri sauce on top. Also excellent is the Spicy BLT Sandwich topped with a Fried Egg. Their Bloody Mary cocktail comes with a bacon strip garnish - So very tasty. I've been here twice already and I'm looking forward to the next visit. The service can be a tad slow but it is always friendly. This is a popular spot and they don't take reservations so plan accordingly - you won't be disappointed. read more

The 1 Star is mostly for the tiny glass of their Metropolitan drink that comes with a large price ($16) and for the no-personality server we encountered. Their Fish & Chips are 2-star, their Tuna Melt 3-Star, and their So-Cal Wedge Salad also 3-Star Our server rushed us and was quite rude. He did not even smile or apologize when we made jokes about the items they did not have (Stout Beer and Pot Pie) that were listed in the menu. The only thing we liked was the view. Yet the bottom toast was soggy, no avocado flavor at all (think it was spread on the toast but hard to tell), egg was undercooked and arugula just made the entire dish bitter. Since we stayed in Mission Pacific Hotel the Labor day long weekend, we had a lunch at the High/low which is next to hotel's lobby. We waited for 30mins after we checked in the restaurant. Got the outside sitting. They gave us a sits without shades and really hot in the beginning. After our request, they switched us to the table with a umbrella. The waiter's service is good. The food is pretty good, better than I imagined. Dill Baja Shrimp Roll ($16) is delicious. Fried Chicken Sandwich ($16) is pretty good as well. Huevos Rancheros ($14) is very interesting. Good food and a great ambiance. Probably one of the top three places in O'Side to sit outside and enjoy the atmosphere. The restaurant is right across the street from the ocean. You can sit in the sun or the shade. Service is REALLY slow and that's the reason for the 4 stars but at least you have the ocean to look at while you wait! The servers are sweet. MY FAV BEACH RESTAURANT. They have so many options here it's amazing. I got the home sweet home which was a grilled cheese with tomato soup (sooo good). Our table overlooked the water and gorgeous view. The area around here was mainly blocked off because the vice presidents wife was attending a wedding!! It was a pretty cool experience. Wanted a breakfast with a view and decided to check out High/Low. They said there would be a 20 minute wait (they don't take reservations) but we were seated faster than that. Comfy furniture and plenty of shade and heaters. Cocktails are a bit overpriced (I think it was 15 for a mimosa?). We opted to get the mimosa kit for 45 dollars which is bottle of champagne and 3 juices. My meal was avocado toast and it was out of this world amazing. Especially when paired with the jalepeno bacon. My hubby got the fried rice dish and enjoyed it by mine was the obvious winner lol. We will go back again. I do wish they would do a 'bottomless' mimosa deal or lower the price for single cocktail/ mimosa. read more

Nothing special. We arrived and wanted a seat outside and was told they would clean one off as they were all dirty. I believe the lady who told us this forgot about us because about 5 minutes later another staff member meant to seat us and we told her we were waiting for a table to be cleaned, she personally cleaned it for us. We ordered our drinks and they never came. We told another staff member and our drinks came after we received our food. The food was average. I ordered Toes on the Nose and tater tots. The sausage was delicious. The container the syrup came is was more decorative then useful (looks like a house). When poured it runs down the side of the container. We opted for outdoor seating for our family of 5. Really cute lay out and casual. We enjoyed the live music that was going on while we were there. I wish I enjoyed the food more. Everything was just kind of meh, the kimchi fried rice needed more depth, the spam (really it was more like a meatloaf) was like a clunk of meat brick that just didn't do it for me. I wish the menu stated specifically that the fries are all sweet potato fries, they just are listed as fries, so we were surprised to see sweet potato ones when the plate came out. First, the positives: location, view, great service. Clam chowder was tasty, but my personal preference is that chowder be on the thicker side and not so soupy. I ordered a mimosa and it was in the smallest glass I have ever seen a drink in. As shown in the photo, it was no higher than my pointer finger. Watered down as well. Maybe because it was a weekday? I don't know. The banh mi sando was bland. Might be me, but I enjoy banh mi sandwiches because of the refreshing flavors the pickled vegetables give the sandwich. As you can see in the photo, the veggies were almost non existent. Menu states "Pickled Daikon, Carrot, Celery, Cilantro, Red Onion, Cucumber" but there was little to none on the sandwich. The chicken patty was also burnt like they reheated it or overcooked it in deep fryer. Breakfast items on the menu sounded delicious as did the salads. Did not try those though. read more

We had a trip tip peppered sandwich and it was the best I've ever had! Filled with red, yellow peppers and plenty of MEAT on a perfectly well prepared perfect temperature bread! The service was very good as well, with a super nice hostess! The ambience was very tranquiller, as we are across the street for the pier, (near the Top Gun house) with classy/casual open indoor and outdoor seating.
