I set up an appointment with Todd at Hill Electric through Yelp Messaging, and then confirmed my appt today, and never showed up! I drove in from LA for the appt, and they never came or called. Communicated with Todd about minor issues I was having in my park model and he gave me an estimate of $100 to $150 which was more reasonable than some others and could get someone out next day. Benjamin showed up as scheduled and he was able to track down and explain my issues. Benjamin did a great job and I was very pleased with the $125 cost for service. read more

Horrible Customer Service!! I was recommended them because apparently they do good work, but I wouldn't know because they don't seem to want any more business. The secretary, I don't know her name, is absolutely no help whatsoever. She's rude, condescending, and extremely unwilling to help. I called, explained the work that needs to be done, and schedule an appt. Their electrician Benji came out to do the work, walks in and says "uh oh". Horrible thing to say, first off. Then proceeds to say he can't do anything that was originally explained (and told to me over the phone that would be no problem to do). Says he has to get the owner out there to do it, and that our contractor needs to make out a schedule for all their work. So I say fine, let's get you and the contractor in direct discussion to work this out. They refuse to give me a number to call, so I give them my contractor's number. Apparently they try calling him, but because he didn't answer right away (he was working on a job and couldn't answer, big shocker!) the secretary tells me there's nothing more that they can do, and that I, the home owner, should be the one to tell them when to come in and what to do. Um, hello? I'm not a contractor or electrician, that's why I pay professionals to do their job. 10/10 will NEVER recommend. And the owner seriously needs to find a new and friendlier secretary. She's losing them business. read more

In 2000 an electrician from Hill changed a non-working outlet in my condo. Turns out, when an inspector checked it recently before my sale of the condo, it was put in upside down. Could have caused a fire! Anyhow, I made an appointment with Hill to come out and fix it and a couple of other outlets, but they didn't show up when at the given time. I called, and got, I believe, Todd, the owner. He was extremely rude, hadn't bothered to call to tell me they were running late, and when I mentioned the upside down outlet, he shouted that no way would that happen, the inspector "got his license from a cereal box." This without seeing the outlet. Turns out, when I had someone else out to fix it, it was truly put in upside down. Hill Electric does not stand behind their work and disparages others. And nasty and rude to boot. read more

We scheduled Hill Electric to install an outlet on our tile fireplace so we could mount a TV. We described the job in detail when we scheduled, but when the electrician arrived, he told us he couldn't do an install in tile and left. We had someone else cut the tile and had him come back. That seemed fine until we had some HVAC work done a couple of months later and learned that he had tied into the dedicated line for the heating system, and the HVAC guys had to redo his work. read more

Well unfortunately I have to change my rating for Hill. While I was impressed with the first visit which was a paid install (maybe that's the difference), 2 months after brand new smoke detectors and new batteries were installed throughout our house, one of them starting malfunctioning at 1:00 a.m. with that ear screeching chirp every 10 minutes. This particular detector was in the hallway to the primary bedroom where there is a 10 foot ceiling. As my husband just had back surgery and I have no idea how to disconnect one of those, we were awake, exhausted and the rest of the night I think I got 3 hours max of sleep after going to a different room and putting in ear plugs. I called Hill's office in the middle of the night (since I was awake anyway) and left a message to have someone come over and see what is wrong with the BRAND NEW SMOKE DETECTOR. Not only did no one contact me on Monday, a week later no one still has contacted me. read more

This happened in January, I called Hill Electric because I was having an issue with the breaker box in my condo I had just purchased. They were super busy but the owner was going to fit me in because he knew I didn't have power. He set an appointment for me and gave me a couple tips on how to possibly fix the issue on my own. After following the owner's advice I was able to fix the problem myself and called him back, thanked him and cancelled my appointment. Beware of Hill Electric. They came to our home in Palm Springs and could not hook up our 12 volt outdoor lighting. He didn't even seem interested in troubleshooting to be able to provide an estimate. On top of that he charged $120 for the "service" call. He was here less than 30 minutes. Go elsewhere for your electrical service! read more

He got there and recommended we add a circuit...for which he could not give us a price. Turns out I did not understand how to fully reset the circuit breaker, and he showed me that. Ultimately, I got him to add a plug to the light in our attic, since he was already there. After resetting the circuit breaker we have not experienced a problem. read more

The electrician was knowledgeable, efficient, clearly well experienced by his professionalism. The job was done right, with no fuss or issues. I got estimates from 4 different firms, and Hill was competitive and straightforward in their estimate. One firm, which I will not name here, tried to up sell me, quoting state requirements for the job that were flat out wrong, and clearly misleading. Hill Electric knew the building code, the current requirements for proper installation, etc. No foolishness about up selling or miss-stating CA law and code requirements in an attempt to generate profit/expense. In, do the work per code, correctly, out. Definitely will use them again for electrical work, definitely recommend them to anyone that needs electrical work done. read more

I first contacted Hill Electric back in May of 2016 to install security lighting around the perimeter of my home. I also wanted to uplight a couple of trees in my back yard which had to be hand trenched in order to lay the new wire. I was so impressed with the work and final cost of the job that I contacted them again just last month to return and hang a couple of outside lights on each side of my garage wall. It wasn't until then that I realized I had forgotten to post a review, something I had planned on doing after the first job but time slipped away from me, I got busy and simply forgot to do it. This review is for that original call as well as the return visit just a couple of weeks ago, May 2017. With so many electricians advertising their services, Hill Electric is one of those companies that you feel fortunate to have found once you meet the owner. Todd has a very calm, easy demeanor which right away seemed genuine and honest. For me, honesty in any trade business is vital to getting a return call for more work. Todd Hill is one of those people with one of those dispositions. Kind, no attitude, professional. He confirmed that again for me on this last job by finishing the work early, cutting the original two hour time estimate by 30 minutes.. time that could have easily been added on by a less honest contractor. If you have a job that requires a licensed electrician, I can't recommend Hill Electric more highly. Just read through his reviews- repeat clients tell the story. We arrived at our second home on 12/28 and saw that we had a smoke alarm that was chirping. The problem was that particular one was hardwired some 25 feet up off the floor - on the ceiling of our foyer - with a chandelier in the way, no less. Since we had to get up there to replace the battery, I wanted to replace the whole smoke alarm with one of those newer ones that last 10 years...for obvious reasons. I also had renters coming back soon and needed it done quickly. I called Hill Electric on someone's recommendation and was not disappointed. They came the same day and replaced that smoke alarm safely and expertly. So I had them replace every other smoke alarm in the home as well. These guys are pros.
