Still one of my favorite chain restaurants. I stopped in the other night and had the oysters St Charles. I had heard about this particular dish before but had never had it. I think it's new to this location as part of the Autumn menu. Fried oysters on a bed of Chicago Style spinach dip topped with creme fraiche and Crystals hot sauce. They were incredible. Came to Houston to visit my best friend and her husband took us here for dinner. The wait was kind of long. We called from the parking lot and asked how long was the wait they said 30-35 mins walked into the restaurant to put our names down and the girl said 40-45 mins!! Okay.... 2 minutes after we called..... Well the wait was well worth it! The food was absolutely delicious! The service was FANTASTIC! Wow! I was not expecting that! But from beginning to end it was a fabulous experience! My friend ordered the Hawaiian steak something like that and her and her husband could not stop talking about it. Her husband got the ribs and said everything was amazing and for some reason even the ketchup tasted different too LOL!!! A good different. I had the trout and that was delicious! ORDER MORE CRAB!!!! You are consistently out of crab cakes as well as many other items on your menu. The menu is quite limited and the last few times we have come you have been out of at least 4 items we have tried to order which is very disappointing. We have always considered Houstons to be one of the most consistent restaurants in the city regarding food, service, etc. (and nation for that matter as we have visited many other locations), but over the last year we are consistently disappointed that you are out of our favorite staples of food and wine. I used to love love love Houston's. They have tweaked the menu and increased the prices. The fries are different now. I was eating at the bar and 5 other people besides myself were all complaining about how we missed the old fries. The salads are now more expensive AND now if you ask for extra dressing it is an additional cost. The French dip sandwich also went up in price. Let me start by saying I never leave reviews but I had such a great experience at Houstons last night that I just couldn't resist!!! I came in about 9pm last night with my girlfriend and another couple for a late Sunday dinner. This being my first time at Houstons I asked our waiter, Chelsea, what she recommended. After a great recommendation of a bottle of Pinot Noir for the ladies, she recommended the Hawaiin ribeye for myself. Boy was that the best steak I think Ive had in a verrryyyy long time!!! Juicy tender and full of flavor with a loaded baked potatoes!!! Not only was the ambiance perfect for Sunday night dinner but the service was absolutely amazing. Chelsea was patient, knowledgable and made great recommendations for the table. The rest of the staff was very helpful as well which in my mind is what set this resturant apart from any other. Eating out should always be this enjoyable, I will be back very soon!!! read more

I will give four stars based solely on our previous experiences and our love for the Westheimer location. came in tonight and our server was young or inexperienced. I have no clue what the specials were because she mumbled through them and all we heard was "and broccoli!" Our entrees came out while we were still eating our appetizer, and she stood there with our entree plates in hand and said "excuse me" until we moved our appetizer plates out of her way. We both ordered prime rib medium rare. Mine was mid-well. Had to request au jus and horseradish after it was delivered. When we requested our food be put to go, another server showed up and dropped off "to-go" au jus and horseradish on the edge of our table as she made a face and walked off. We come into town periodically from Louisiana to shop and /or have a nice meal and usually we begin with Houston's on Kirby for lunch- good consistent food, cloth napkins just right for lunch. This time it seemed a bit more polished and customer savvy than in our past experiences but this was just the start. We arrived a bit before noon and after conferring with the waitress about the menu decided on the fried grouper sandwich. It was spectacular! We had just returned from a beach vacation in Florida where we had fresh fish every day and I have to tell you this was better than anything I had on the Florida coast. For our being there early in the lunch hour the entree was slow coming out and we waited probably 10-15 minutes longer than a normal time. However, we didn't consider this a reportable problem. Our waitress shortly appeared and told us that she considered the delay of our order to be unacceptable and the lunch would be completely complimentary!! The order then was delivered by the manager and she said the same thing! Now normally you might get an appetizer or dessert but to have the complete meal complimentary was certainly a rare event. So, We compliment the wait staff and the manager for going well beyond what was our expectations. And we sincerely appreciate the WOW customer service experience. What a treat for a restaurant to take care of it's customers like this. (And the fried grouper sandwich is not to be missed.) My review is more based on an incident I had in Houston's in July. My husband and I were entertaining out of town guests back in July 2015. Everything wAs going great until I had to go to the restroom. I looked for the restroom and as I was looking for a sign, I missed 2 steps that I had to go down to get to the restroom(no signs or lights). I crashed to the bottom floor and my I head nearly went through there wooden wall. My knees hit the floor with such force. A manager came over and asked if I needed some water to which I refused. All the time other patrons were asking her to call 911. My knees had knots the size of oranges on them so I went to a place to have them xrayed. The manager took down mm y name and number to call and check my progress. Anyway a couple of months went by with no calls from them. I was given my bill is $200+ and told to have a nice day. They say that if I didn't Like my food or if it were cold, they could comp the meal but slipping and almost having a concussion did not warrant compensation. Needless to say, their customer service leaves a lot to be desired......... read more

My husband and I ate here for valentines this year. My favorite place to get ribs in town. We had a reservation, so getting seated as quick and easy. Server was attentive and nice. Houston's on Kirby has always been a frequent treat for us. We have moved to another state but always look forward to a return visit to this restaurant! Recently, my husband ordered his all- time favorite, French dip sandwich, and they were out of special bread. He was very disappointed but ordered a great salad. When one of the supervisors came by and discovered this, the bread had arrived, and he switched the meal, making for a very happy man! I have been to Houston's a couple times, and I have found it to be a frustrating experience. Granted the food is good but overpriced. The selection is completely inadequate. Plus, the service is horrible. If you have a large party then just forget about this place. We waited 45 minutes during off-peak hours to get a table for 8 people because there was only one booth that was that large. There is also a very snobbish feel to the restaurant. For instance, who serves a hamburger and French fries without ketchup? And then when you request ketchup, you get a 1oz cup of ketchup. I suppose they are too fancy to just give you a bottle of ketchup. The restaurant is not kid friendly at all. They do not even have cups with lids. Again, I suppose they are too fancy for that. I suppose if you are trying to impress your date then this may be a decent place to go. But if you are looking for an enjoyable time with friends or family there are many better choices in Houston. read more

Houstons we have a very big problem. What has happened to your restauant? I came to your restaurant last December and had less than a positive experience. I called and spoke to the manager Bruce. I did not ask for anything to be sent as far as a gift card but he did and it was gracious. So, I was really in the mood for the Spinach and Artichoke Dip so I suggested to my dad that we go. From the moment I walkin in, there were two girls at the host stand. They looked like twins. Neither one of them said hello or greeted me. I said hello to them, asked them if they were twins and asked for a table. Whatever happened to "hello, welcome to Houstons? We were finally seated. We waited 10 let me repeat 10 minutes for someone to greet our table and at least another 5-10 for drinks. Omg this server??? Omg, What an attitude. I Was kind of scared of her like she was going to snap at me our something, just not warn and friendly. It just made the whole experience uncomfortable. We ordered the spinach and artichoke dip. The chips came out with salt drenched all over them. We sent them back. The entrees were ok but just the whole experience was negative and uncomfortable. The server made the night very uncomfortable. This was the worst experience I have ever had w. this chain. The disrespect was unthinkable. We arrived at 927pm. We were told after the 8 minutes it took for the bar tender to notice us that the kitchen had closed 1 minute prior and that she would not serve us. I had to insist that a manager come and speak w. me about this. The manager came over and indicated that if we were willing to order at that moment (with no menus) that she would see to it that we would get served. The bar staff at that point was unbelievably rude and almost refused to give us drinks or any service at all. When I paid the ck and made a note of the bad service the bar tender told me to go back to Austin. When I asked what she said in disbelief, she said have a nice trip back to Austin with a smirk on her face. I am so upset, I have beed a customer for decades and I have never been treated this way. Not bad at all, but for the price you can get much better in Houston. Pros: my wife's ribeye and my French dip were both tastes and well prepared. Our server was very friendly and attentive. Cons: the side items and appetizers were mostly boring and uninspired (steamed broccoli and mediocre French fries were the standard, everything comes with "creamy horse radish" sauce. Pretty much everything besides the steak itself is mediocre and uninteresting, yet after a single salad, ribeye, French dip, and some ice tea and a single glass of middling wine, we had an $85 bill (so about $102 with tip). Nothing was bad, but there are so many options that are better in this city. Some may argue that the extra money is for ambiance, but to be honest the atmosphere was like that of a typical chain casual dining place (think Chilies or Outback) where we had to wait 20 minutes for a table (despite having reservations) and most of the other diners were dressed in tee shirts and flip-flops; which is fine, but it pretty much fails to convey the kind of "romantic fine dining" environment that would make it worth paying $85 for a meal that I can get for $45 elsewhere without waiting... read more

On Friday November 11,2016 my wife and visited Houston's on Kirby on or about 6:15 pm. We checked in at the check-in stand and was told we had a 35-40 minute wait. I jokingly asked does that mean an hour? The greeter replied absolutely not! My wife and I took a seat at the bar where we waited and waited and waited!!!!! I got up asked the greeter when will we be seated? She stated it's only been 45 mins and we told you an hour. I said no I said an hour and you said absolutely not!! She replied "you" have 15 more mins" I will come and get you. I took my seat. 22 mins later I returned to the check-in and reminded the greeter its way passed 15 mins. She replied " Oh yes, where are you setting? I told her at the bar. She asked me to give a sec. and she was finding us our table. I took my seat again. 20 MINS LATER I RETURNED TO THE GREETER. She stated "Oh I'm so sorry, and took us to a table about 8pm!!! The MOD WAS GREAT!!! The server was WONDERFUL!!! The food was even better!!! Please STOP LYING TO GUESS ABOUT WAIT TIMES! Houston's is phenomenal. Everything that they serve is made in house, from the cheeseburgers ground daily to the salad dressings and fresh squeezed lemonade. Although there are other Houston's restaurants, this is hardly a chain with how personalized your experience is at each restaurant. The service is always spectacular and the atmosphere is romantic and comfortable. Everyone is in love with the spinach dip as an appetizer, so you can't really go wrong with that unless you want something with a little less calories. If that is the case then the smoked salmon is fantastic! I know that Houston's is typically known for their meat but their salads are AMAZING. My favorite salad was the seared tuna salad, but then I tried the thai chicken salad and now I can't decide which one a like more. My boyfriend is in love with the hawaiin ribeye so for all you meat lovers that is definitely worth a try. Will definitely be going back again! read more

Unfortunately for them, I will never be a patron. This may not help many people, but I think it bears mentioning. I was looking for a dinner spot for myself and some friends, several of whom have strict dietary restrictions. We wanted something nice, but not over-the-top nice. Started researching online for places. Someone mentioned Houston's so we look it up...and that's where it ends. First of all, my 10-year-old nephew could create a better Web site. It is the most crude, rudimentary Web Site I have ever seen and no menus posted and the phone link doesn't work. So I find the number through other means and call. I was informed that they don't post their menus online, but they could e-mail them to me, which I declined. No, I don't wish to wait around until someone sends the menus, and no, I don't wish to be on your mailing list. Someone in the upper echelon of this company needs to pull the advertising and product information into the 21st century. read more
