A great date night spot! We came here on a Friday night and thoroughly enjoyed the food and drinks. Our steaks were perfectly cooked and well seasoned. The salad was surprisingly very good - it was lusciously crisp and had delightfully airy croutons that were more like eating tiny TX toasts. The cocktails were on point. My husband enjoyed his old fashioned and my drink, the Crush, was lovely with its refreshing nature and tasting of actual pressed grapes. Service was wonderful throughout the night. The hostess originally sat us by the bar area but since it was a bit loud, I asked to be seated elsewhere to which she accommodated. Our server was very warm and welcoming, and was switched to a different one because apparently they were mistakenly assigned to our table. Water was refilled consistently, I never felt like I was running low. Parking is plentiful since they have spaces by the restaurant and its own parking lot. Valet parking is free. Only down side was the valet attendant. With it being our first time there, we drove up to ask the attendant about the free valet. He said in clear annoyance, "there's a spot right there" and pointed behind us. We had to reverse down a one-way with the entrance right behind in order to park. Another car came moments later and he attended to them without hesitation. When we were leaving, he was leaning against his podium on his phone.

My favorite solo bar dinner spot ever. I'm a regular here and it's so consistent with quality and service! The bartenders at the bar only make drinks and serve to the people at the bar. The main dining has their own kitchen bartender, which is really nice. Cameron, Amy, Keith and Danny are the typical bartenders I am with when I go and they are all so sweet and remember you. I typically enjoying the tortilla soup or the spinach dip and having a couple martinis for dinner. The martinis always have ice crystals and are made just right! They replace the martini glass to a fresh frozen one when it starts to get a little warm. The steak is amazing if you feel like splurging a little, my favorite in a while! Highly recommend Houston staple!

Here's a polished Yelp review you can post: I'll be honest--I avoided Hillstone for a while because I thought it was something totally different from the old Houston's. Turns out, I was wrong. The menu is very much the same, and that was a pleasant surprise. The ambiance is warm and inviting, making it a great spot to relax and enjoy a good meal. Even the restroom stood out--clean and well-kept, which always says a lot about a place. We went all in and ordered one of each steak, the redfish, and two French dips. Everything was solid and consistent with what you'd expect if you remember Houston's. Chandler, our waitress, was on top of everything--attentive without being overbearing. The rest of the team was just as impressive, constantly keeping our drinks filled and checking in at the right moments. Overall, great experience. Glad we gave it a shot--we'll definitely be back especially with complementary valet and hot fudge sundae!!!!

Honestly, I'm still salivating writing this review. I'm originally from New Orleans so Houston's has been my go-to for years. Hillstone didn't disappoint when it came to the Hawaiian Ribeye. It was cooked to PERFECTION. Although it was packed, I got seated at the bar pretty quickly. The service was phenomenal -- I feel like that's a Hillstone staple generally. If you love a good French 75, Hillstone has the perfect one for you!! As a girl who loves a spinach dip and a drink, I'll definitely be back.

We are regulars at this location and I love that the staff always recognize us. We always get great service. I normally have the veggie burger, but today I tried Ding's crispy fried chicken sandwich. It comes dressed with tangy coleslaw, tomato and cheese. it's a big sandwich but it's cut into three, slider sized pieces; easier to handle. It comes with a side of Hillstone's (Houston's) signature French fries and the spicy mayo - Yum! Totally enjoyed and recommend. My hubby had his usual cheeseburger. It's always good, so he sees no need to change. Always recommend. Finally we had our usual apple walnut cobbler, served with a Scoop of vanilla ice cream! OK, it is the real reason for the visit! Over the years , it is smaller but still delicious and enough.

If consistency had a home address, it would be Houston's. Every single visit feels like stepping into a culinary hug - warm lighting, polished service, and food so good it low-key has me questioning my life choices wherever I eat anywhere else. I've been to Houston's many many times and it's my go to spot for celebrations. This time we were celebrating my boyfriend's birthday. We order the same thing every single time. The spinach and artichoke dip and the center cut filet which comes paired with whipped potatoes and broccolini. To end dinner, we get their famous key lime pie. It's the perfect balance of tang and sweetness. I clean my plate here every time! The service is always on point. The staff is friendly without being fake, attentive without hovering, and somehow always two steps ahead. Need a refill? Already on your table. Need a recommendation? They know the menu like they wrote it. And the atmosphere? Sleek, cozy, and intimate. Whether it's a date night, birthday dinner, or celebration, Houston's delivers every single time. Basically, if you want dinner that hits so hard you start thinking about it again the next morning, go to Houston's. Absolute 10/10.

Stopped in to have lunch since we were in the area. No reservations are required here. They were pretty busy but we were able to order and get our appetizers and entrees in a timely manner. Our waiter was great(forgot his name) The jumbo shrimp, spinach dip and burgers were all delicious. Lights are dim inside for a more intimate setting. They do have complimentary valet parking if needed. Self parking isn't a hassle tho. Also this place is very strict when it comes to phones and kids etc! If I'm not mistaken this restaurant used to be named Houston's! They also DO NOT ACCEPT DISCOVER CARDS I don't plan to EVER DINE HERE AGAIN. Not bc I had a bad experience they were great.

I came here with my friends for dinner and I had a good experience. I loved the ambiance and our server was fantastic. However I thought the food and price of everything was expensive for what it was. I felt everything needed salt sadly. The cocktails were OK; I tasted more fruitiness than actual alcohol. The spinach dip was very good though. Other than that, I don't think I would return here.

    Dress code

I've been a loyal Houston's/Hillstone customer since 2004 and have dined at this location for the past two years, always with a great experience -- until tonight. I was hosting a client for a business dinner when the new GM, Hannah Overstrom, informed me and said my dressy crop top violated the dress code. I've worn similar dressy tops here many times without any issues, and another guest was wearing a far more revealing outfit without any comment from staff. Being singled out like this in front of a client was embarrassing and unprofessional. Very disappointing after 22 years of patronage. I don't see anything in their attire standards that mentions anything about dressy crop tops.

Managers conversing right in front of me about what happened

VERY disgusted with my experience here today!! I (a black woman) was wearing a soccer jersey for FIFA. The host let me know that I was unable to wear my jersey because it is not apart of the dress code. I went back to my car to get a jacket and returned. Upon returning there were 2 ladies (white women) in athletic wear in the lobby. I asked the manager if the dress code was enforced across the board and she replied with "I enforce the dress code and it's Houston so they are hot". Does me being hot warrant me being able to wear my jersey or no because I am a minority? When I expressed my frustration that it wasn't a fair policy being enforced to everyone she stated that "I don't have to dine here.". I have been going to Hillstone for 15 years and have NEVER NOT ONCE experienced mistreatment like today. Poor customer service from the GM, Heather, and the way she handled this situation to a loyal customer is completely unacceptable. After I went to sit in the lobby the GM went directly to the chef and began to talk and laugh about the situation right in front of me while continuously looking at me. Once I left the CHEF came to the parking lot to take pictures of my car!!! I have heard stories about minorities having unfair experiences here and I experienced it for myself today. I will NOT be returning.

Wow! Just... wow…read more Loved this place from the moment I walked in! Ambiance was super fun and welcoming. The tubs of ice filled with cold drinks all around as you approach the counter was casual and fun. And the staff was welcoming and friendly. The menu had so much variety, without being overwhelming. Anything from a good pazole, to a brisket Rueben, to an American Italian sandwich! I got the báhn mì sandwich, which was bursting with flavor! The pork was seasoned well and had good flavor from the marinade. The cilantro, pickled onions, jalapeno, all were so fresh and vibrant! And I was able to get homemade chips and fresh strawberries as my side - such a refreshing bite the strawberries after a rich, porky, spicy bite from the sandwich. Can't say enough good! Loved this place and would go back in a heartbeat!

Before their recent expansions to Austin, it all began here in Rice Village exactly 15 years ago. The vibes are contemporary and casual, with the kind of space that fits for just about any scenario. Whether it's a solo meal, a lunch date, or a group led affair, the experience is almost always an excellent one. Start by ordering at the counter and find a seat where the food will brought directly to the table. So much of their variety caters to all sorts of dietary restrictions from vegan to gluten free to nut free. Their spicy crispy brussels sprouts ($10) are a nice starter, as is the squash "onion" rings ($12). The local power bowl ($16) is a classic and I've always enjoyed the brown rice and quinoa combo. Their chicken "posolé" is solid, and I love the large hominy bits along with the clear but green tint of a broth. The chicken shawarma bowl ($20) is an interesting mix that includes pickled beets and strawberries, along with their market cheddar burger ($17) and fabulous twice cooked fries. The carrot cupcake is strangely addicting, and I think their gluten free brownie is a bit of a sleeper. Some of their items didn't jive with me previously, such as an underwhelming cashew queso ($9), a semi-laughable Vietnamese steak bowl ($22), and their semi-gringo version of a banh mi ($15). It's not that these items are bad per se, but they definitely don't live up to the same standard that I feel their other dishes do best. Where they hit the biggest home run is their customer service. Everyone working behind the counter does their best to deliver and they almost always do by staying on top of refills, cleanups, and customer greets. I've always enjoyed my experiences here and look forward to every visit.
