On the real note: Here's a review expressing your experience: I recently had an extremely upsetting experience at Hillstone Restaurant in Winter Park. From the moment we walked in, my 4-year-old son and I were treated like we didn't belong. The manager immediately told us she was "worried" about our table because of my son, even though he hadn't done anything wrong. She insisted on "holding" our table until she felt "ready," not giving him a chance to show he could behave. This felt like blatant discrimination against my family, especially as a disabled person in a wheelchair who uses a robotic arm to eat independently. The atmosphere was cold and uncomfortable, with snooty hosts and a vibe that made us feel unwelcome from the start. Hillstone claims to be upscale, but their attitudes are anything but. This treatment was highly disrespectful, judgmental, and completely lacking in compassion. We ended up leaving, as it was clear we were not going to be treated with respect. I would never recommend this place to families or anyone in the disability community. It's a "wannabe" upscale restaurant with a poor attitude toward inclusivity and respect for others. read more

I have been here before but just for drinks and to enjoy the lake view. This time, we decided to have dinner. How can I explain the menu - guessing Elevated Bar Food. Smoked Salmon was fantastic - generous portion, really well done. FOr entrees, I really wanted to try the fish sandwich but they were sold out, so we ordered the Chicken and Roasted Beef sandwiches. Both were super delicious. My only disappointment was that the chicken sandwich was sort of missing the chicken and had way too much cabbage, but the combination of flavors overall was really good. In this visit, got adventurous and tried a new drink - the Paper Plane - highly recommend although it can be an adquired taste for some. Bourbon based martini. Staff was very attentive. Beautiful restaurant and great service. We both started with their traditional salad with cornbread croutons (AMAZING) and enjoyed the Hawaiian ribeye for our entrees. The ribeye was so flavorful and probably the best I've ever had. For dessert we tried the apple walnut crumble and it was so delicious. I also had 2 French 75's that were very well made. 10/10 for Hillstone! This is my home away from home. Truthfully Hillstone and Bulla Gastrobar battle for my love and attention on Sunday mornings. A friend of mine and I have a standing order for almost every Sunday brunch at Hillstone. We always sit at the bar, and we always get the same thing. Hillstone is a hidden gem on wide open display. Not only is it a beautifully designed upscale dining establishment with a comfortable feel, it also sits on a beautiful lake with outdoor seating on request. Hillstone never misses, and if you can tell from my reviews I frequent restaurants that do not disappoint me. My go-to orders are the smoked salmon, the grilled chicken salad, and the Hawaiian (pro-tip get it Pittsburg style and order the braised red cabbage and emerald kale salad). You will NOT be disappointed. Every time I visit I receive top notch service and top notch food. If you're there on a Sunday, there is a good chance I'm at the bar :) read more

Aside from the, the food is dependable and the drinks are good. The ahi tuna entree is one of my favorite dishes anywhere. The burger is delicious. My family has been going to Hillstone in San Francisco, New York City and to this location before for many many years. We tried to make a reservation for 5 people plus one child for early this evening. Brandy told us that they were unable to do this, since they only accommodate parties of 5. I have never in my life heard of a restaurant refusing service due to a larger party than 5 people. She was quite rude in her responses, but I remained respectful and ended the call. We then decided that we still would like to go this restaurant since we typically love Hillstone so much and we are visiting our family out of town so we would like to have nice food in a nice environment. Two people were willing to sit at their own table. Those two people were fine with not conversing with the rest of the party, they just wanted to go to the same restaurant and sit in the same area as the other 4 people. We called back and requested to make two reservations at 4:45. One for two people and one for four people and just requested that they would be in the same area. Brandy's response again was pretty snarky. Stating that they won't even do that since it's still one large party but split up. I then explained that the one table doesn't even need to talk to the other table and how those two people are a separate party. She still responded saying they can not do that, it is not allowed. I then lost my patience and explained, I am calling to make two SEPARATE reservations and at this point put us wherever you want. And STILL they were refusing our parties. At this point it felt a lot like they didn't want to deal with us at this point and refused to serve us solely on this phone call. At this point I let it be known that this was ridiculous and how I've never experienced this before in my life. We are two parties requesting to place reservations and they wouldn't even check if they have any availability. We then called back requesting a manager and explained to Paulette the situation. We mentioned how Brandy was quite rude and the manager didn't even apologize and only thanked us for our feedback. This restaurant has turned into a very uninviting atmosphere and has turned quite snobby. Overall the staff seemed to hold themselves in such an uptight high regard and their customer service is just awful. Very sad for them to hold themselves in such high regard that they will turn business away due to this ridiculous policy. We are a very pleasant party and only wanted to catch up with some distant relatives in a great atmosphere with good food. Our child is very well behaved and we would not have had any issues. We will never return to this location EVER again. It is very heartbreaking. read more

Beautiful restaurant. Nice place for a date night. Wish they had a rotating menu instead of the same menu all the time. Yes, they do have some seasonal specials like artichokes, but it's not much. Their ribs are great, messy. The outdoor area is beautiful. There are Adirondack chairs you can grab and sit, drink and chill. They also have a small dock on the river you can walk out to and sit or stand. There is a garden with a fire pit as well- but sure if they ever light the fire pit? Dinner at sunset is pretty. They lower the shades on the windows so the sun isn't glaring. Just as the sun breaks the surface of the water, they raise the window shades so you can appreciate the sunset in all its glory. Would recommend a reservation for a window table. The bar area gets busy on weekends- first come first serve seating there. I don't know when things changed, but you can no longer use cash at the bar- credit only. Weird. And I don't like that. Bathrooms are clean. Plenty of parking. They also have valet. read more

Menus are altered without warning, and rather than informing guests upfront, the staff waits until the meal is served to reveal what you actually ordered is unavailable. When questioned, their response is not one of apology or accountability, but of indifference--as though disappointment is part of the package. I've dined widely, from intimate bistros to renowned fine dining institutions, and rarely have I seen such disregard for the customer. There are lots of tucked-away spots outside to enjoy bites or cocktails, one of which being the dock out on the lake, complete with twinkle lights. Multiple waiters ventured out in case we needed anything, so you aren't totally removed from service if you choose that spot. I'm withholding 1 star only because I can't comment on their food beyond the Brussels sprouts my friend ordered that weren't very appetizing. I have been to many Hillstone Restaurant Group locations across the US, and they set the standard for mid-upper level dining, service, and atmosphere. The Winter Park location meets the high standard. Upon early eve arrival, I was promptly greeted with a smile, by India, who put my name on the bar seat waitlist. My daughter and her bf arrived and we waited for our bar seats, while sipping pre-dinner drinks (Negroni for me thanks). The kiddo was craving a burger, so we split that, while the bf had rotisserie chicken w the kale side salad. All well made, flavorful, and served promptly. What I enjoy most about the Hillstone Group is that they know how to set the atmosphere w proper lighting, and they are unapologetic about adherence to a dress code. My experience at Hillstone was excellent. Not only is the food top tier, but the ambiance inside and out is beautiful. It's located on Lake Killarney and has a large outdoor dock with seating to enjoy a drink or wait for your table. The inside is dimly lit which provides an intimate setting. You have to make reservations in advance and plan accordingly. For drinks we got the Hillstone Negroni and the Grapefruit Aperol Spritz. Both drinks were amazing. For an appetizer, we did the Spinach & Artichoke Dip. It was creamy, cheesy, and packed with flavor. The chips were baked to perfection and I enjoyed adding the sourcream to the dip. I highly recommend this as an appetizer. For our main dish, my boyfriend got the Hawaiian ribeye. It was absolutely delicious. I got the cheeseburger, it was massive and probably one of the best cheeseburgers I've ever had. It was cooked to perfection. For my side, I chose the Wild rice. It came with a Champagne Vinaigrette and almonds which were very good. To finish off this amazing meal, we watched the sunset on the dock and enjoyed the view. I have been a fan of this Hillstone location since it was Houston's. The view and ambiance can't be beat, especially at sunset. The service is always top notch and the food is phenomenal. I can't get enough of the French Dip and their artichoke appetizer when in season is to die for. We visited today and our server, Chris was wonderful. Our waters never went below 3/4 full and he anticipated our every need, offering suggestions as well. With that being said - there have a ton of gripes lately around their policies and rules, especially in a local foodie group on social media. The fact is, this place has a clear dress code, cell phone usage policy, and a very strict no substitutions policy, all of which are clearly stated on their website. Personally, I am fine with the guidelines and their enforcement, and I like that Hillstone is a nice place to dine with very clear standards. However, I do wish there would be a little more leniency in terms of some of the menu items. For instance, my favorite dish in Orlando was the Thai Steak and Noodle Salad from here. Recently, the restaurant changed the menu to simply the salad without a protein. They do offer grilled chicken as an add-on, however, it is not "allowed" to add a different protein such a steak, or ahi tuna, both of which are available on the menu. I find that to be frustrating and frankly a bit asinine, but if that's their policy, I guess that's their policy. I do urge any management who is reading this to please reconsider, because I absolutely love the steak on the Thai salad. I do not believe it would compromise the dish in any way, especially considering it used to be on the menu! I'd love to hear a take from Hillstone's management on this. read more

Hillstone has been a magical place for me for over 18 years, across several cities. But my last visit in Winter Park revealed a side that disappointed me. When my phone died after dinner, I was alone with my daughter, in the rain, without GPS or a way to call for help. The only charger available didn't work, and for nearly an hour no alternative was offered. In moments like these, hospitality is measured by action: a ride call, a safe spot to wait, or a simple check-in. Sadly, none happened. I've been coming to this restaurant for years and loved it. The staff is very professional and all work together to clear our tables and bring food and drinks as efficiently as possible. The booths are comfy and offer an incredible view of the lake. The wine pours are generous as well. The filets were cooked perfectly and the cheesecake was unique and tasty. Just visited Hillstone this past weekend with my parents. I had a wonderful experience!! :) The service was really good, we felt really welcomed. Our server Xavier was super sweet and accommodating! Every time our drinks were low she would go out of her way to ask us if we want more/refill it. In terms of food, for an appetizer we ordered chips with an artichoke dip. I'm not a huge artichoke girl but found myself overindulging on these LOL! Also came with some salsa and sour cream which was good as well. For my main course, I got the chicken sandwich. SO tasty!!! would definitely order again, but it was such a big serving. I think next time I would eat less chips to finish this sandwich. My dad got the salmon and he really enjoyed it. It was plated really nicely as well (fancy!). My mom is a vegetarian, she ordered "The proud vegetarian" house specialty. It was plated really well and was super fresh. One note - it did have an egg included on the plate, which some vegetarians may not prefer. My mom just shared this with my dad and he ate it and enjoyed it. I could see other vegetarians not vibing with this inclusion, however, so may be worth specifying this on the menu! Other than that she loved it, especially the fresh bread included! They also used a really tasty cheese, like a goat cheese or feta (not 100% sure) but super tasty!!!! To end it all of we shared a brownie that was topped with some ice cream and a caramel drizzle. OMG, so good!!!!! Ate that so fast. Was super decadent and covered in nuts. Probably my favorite thing !! worth mentioning that this wasn't on the menu, so make sure you ask for dessert options! I had a really disappointing experience at Hillstone today, Saturday October/05th. . I was visiting friends at their table, which was at maximum capacity, but because I am a regular customer I knew about and I didn't order anything, neither a glass of water, and was just seated. After about 15 minutes, the manager, Leah approached me with an unpleasant attitude and insisted that I leave. There was nothing out of the ordinary happening, there was space at the table, and I found her approach rude. When I tried to discuss it with her and explain that there are better ways to communicate the situation, she only reinforced her rudeness, that was quite an unacceptable attitude for a manager. It's frustrating because I had a great time there just last Sunday, and this experience has left me questioning whether I'll return. Very disappointed. read more

I've been going to Houston's now Hillstone on/off forever, in various locations. I will say the service has stayed the same, very good. However the price of their Veggie burger has gone up numerous times from $24 to $16 to $18 and this night jumped to $21.99. Now I like the quality but it is a veggie burger not meat...and I tend to top on the high side always more than 20%. I appreciate good service but not a veggie burger being just a bit less than my mom's beautiful fish meal or a steak sitting next to me! Anyway, enough of that... They have the option of reservations (make them early or come during off hours) and free parking or valet. Sunday early is nice to sit outside not as cold (I have a thing about freezing cold restaurants - I had pants and a sweater on and still froze). No shorts for me! Bring a sweater! The bathroom is cleaned regularly from the looks of it. They are full most of the time so if you are nervous about Covid ask about a reservation for one of the four tables outside under the beautiful trees overlooking the lake. Most folks tend to dress up a bit and work nights and Friday nights especially, it is packed. The food, our veggie burger is tasty but again the price has us rethinking about going again. This is a very elegant, classy, and dressy-casual restaurant if you are around the Winter Park area. The service is phenomenal and very professional; the servers are always checking on you to see if you need anything. The atmosphere of this restaurant is warm, rustic, and elegant. You could notice the finishes on the furniture, the quality of the silverware, and the decorations. The food is good, we have French Dip Au Jus, Cheeseburger, and a Salad (this salad was ok) but everything else great. The only complaint is with the parking, make sure to get there with enough time if you have a reservation and is lunch or dinner time on the weekend.
