The food is awful. we ordered 3 dishes. All was so bad that we could not eat passed a few bites. I seemed like spices were just poured on the meat and the spinach with cheese seemed like it was cooked in a blender. the Momo was dry and hard to chew as though one is chewing on leather. Walking in, the place wasn't very big. Tables were modestly decorated with a rogue red cloth, salt n pepper, along with the usual spoon, fork and knife. Tableclothes weren't washed very well. Some distinctive stains could be seen. The smell of spices embraced us walking in which made me look even more forward as Mr. W and I came here for lunch. We were served water along with the menus. Each table has numbers which I suppose were for the waiters and waitresses. Food started to come after 15-20 minutes I would say? APPETIZERS Chicken Pakora - chicken was grilled beforehand before being lightly fried. Had been sprinkled with some pepper and salt. It was moist and easy to chew. It came with two sauces, and seemed to taste better with the brown sauce. I do think they gave a lot more sauce than necessary but I suppose every one takes a different amount. This did taste pretty good and was kind of a light snack - which matches up perfectly as a appetizer. Chicken Sandheko - alright. Has a slightly sour citrusy taste to it. To me it tasted okay, but felt like it was missing something. Possibly rice. Mildly spicy. Lunch Special: $8.50 Chicken Vindaloo - tasted very much like tomato puree. Not a bad taste but just super tomato-y. Me not being a fan of tomatoes could already say this wasn't my type of flavor. Chicken Tikki Masala - delicious! Must have a lot of butter in it to heighten the taste. We polished it off with the naan. Vegetables - spicy, chopped cucumbers. Tastes similar to a cold chinese dish. Naan - fresh out, was pretty hot when we got it. Lentil Soup - similar to corn soup but more pasty. A lot of crushed lentils. Meal came out to $20ish and a bit more for tip and such. Lunch special was a good deal but somewhat limiting as its just the basics. Parking was okay, though many were fighting for parking as it was a Saturday and people needed to do groceries at Trader Joes and eat lunch at the other surrounding restaurants like Gyu Kaku and Kappa Sushi. Service was okay...though a bit lax. There were 2-3 servers. One of the waitresses after taking our appetizers to clean up and giving us the special too away my plate and I did not get it back. We were sharing the lunch special so had put it in the middle and I was eating it somewhat awkwardly before one of the waitresses saw I was having trouble eating and got me a plate. They were all kind of brief in taking the orders and then just letting us know what we ordered. read more

Have been here repeatedly over the last 4 years, it's our favorite go-to curry spot in San Diego. So good I'd eat here every day if I could, and am craving it just writing this review. My favorite is the Tikka Masala (#1 chicken, #2 paneer, #3 lamb). Chicken Jalfrezi is also very good. They ask you how spicy you'd like it, from 1-5 or 0 if you'd like no spice at all. The butter naan is perfectly crisp on the edges and tender in the middle, with the right amount of butter. Paneer pakora is delicious with their tamarind sauce, as are the samosas. Excellent and friendly service, have never had a bad experience - they're very helpful & kind. Their lunch special is an incredible value if you can get there during the day. Choice of two entrees, with rice, half naan bread, and a small salad OR daal soup. It's a huge quantity of food, but so good that I can't help finishing it! Lunch specials also come out very quickly too, nice when you've got somewhere to hurry to after eating. For regular menu items, the wait times can be long. But I can't fault that as a negative because the food always comes freshly made and delicious. They give you daal soup (lentils) too to hold you over in the meantime. Ordered food from a 3rd party app and for whatever reason, the app took the money but did not relay the order to the restaurant until I after we had arrived for the scheduled pick up. No problem. Tired with two little ones, I left and settled for a drive through. No issues on either side. Yet and still, they called found my number and offered to make it right. We get that glitches happen. After having lunch at this new eatery, I have to say I am certainly a fan of the place. Not only to they provide great lunch specials, but they also make some pretty good food to go along with it. I ordered the lunch special which got me buttered warm naan bread, basmati rice, a pickled vegetable salad, a generous cup of delicious lentil soup, and for my my two entree items, I went for the chicken tikka masala and curry chicken. This generous meal cost $8.95. The meal came all together nicely presented on a huge metal platter. I first dug into the lentil soup and it was fantastic. It was very well seasoned with the appropriate herb and spice for the region and I liked that the soup still had small amounts of tender lentils in it. This was a great start to the meal ahead. My two favorite items were easily the tikka masala and the buttered naan. The masala had a very creamy texture and had a delicious flavor that kept me yearning for more. I loved the way it luxuriously coated the tender all white chicken pieces. The chicken tasted great and the masala was fabulous. I thought the chicken curry was good but the curry flavor needed to be more pronounce. It was very subtle and it was easy to forget that I was dinning on something with curry in it. The chicken for this item was thigh meat which was very tender. The curry sauce also was a little to watery and needed to be thicken a bit. Like I said earlier, the naan bread was terrific. I loved that they served in nice and warm, had a great soft moist texture, and came loaded with a terrific tasting butter. Don't miss out on the naan! The little side of prickled vegetable was great and I used it as palate cleanser and enjoyed them at the same time. The basmati rice was plentiful and fluffy. Himalayan Grill replaces Nok Thai in the Trader Joe's shopping center. The decor hasn't changed much and the giant map of Thailand is still painted on the wall. Last time I checked, Thailand and Nepal weren't THAT close to each other.... but whatever. Our meal started with complementary lentil soup, which was fairly bland and overly starchy. I can't complain too much, because it does come with your meal. Next up were the lamb samosas. The outside was light and crispy, but the inside tasted more like ground beef with very little spices. My date and I shared the mango chicken and vegetable curry dishes. The mango chicken curry was the highlight of the meal. I loved the large chunks of mango and the sweetness of the curry. The vegetable curry was a disappointment. It tasted more like a stew, than curry. We were both left wondering where the curry sauce was? Another part of the meal that I enjoyed was your choice between rice or naan. Of course we went with the naan. Service was a bit on the slow side. After the lamb samosas, it took about 30 minutes to get our curries. It even took a while to get the check. All in all, Himalayan Grill is good, but not as great as Taste of the Himalayas. read more

Service here is soooo slow. We waited forever to order. When we finally did order, we didn't get our iced teas until we asked for them. And then there were no refills ever offered. We ordered Vegetable Pakoras for our appetizer and all of us ordered the lunch specials. Lunch specials is a choice of 2 items from a list served with soup, rice, and naan. I'm assuming almost everything is pre-made and all they have to do is to spoon it on a plate. There was certainly no sense of urgency by anyone working here. Was it a bad day for them? Soup finally came out after we sat for at least 15 minutes. I was seriously getting hangry. The soup was lentil and had no depth of flavor. Our food came out about 10 minutes after the soup. I'm so glad the Chana Masala was flavorful or I would have been pissed. The Tikka Masala chicken was tough for the most part. I had a few tender pieces. Oh and I had to ask for the naan. They didn't just bring it out. And the appetizer came out way after we got our food. I really wanted the pakoras for my appetizer and not as my dessert but oh well. They were good. I've only had takeout from here but every time has been really good! Everything always arrives quickly and the food is really flavorful. To start off my go tos are veggie samosas and the momos. I've had both the chicken and veggie momos and they are both excellent. The portion is very generous. The butter chicken and tikka masala are really good but I just discovered the chicken nirvana and I think that's me new favorite. It's a coconut milk curry and the flavors are so good. one of the best curries in san diego. Usually i get curries alone as togo. I have tried malaikofta and butter chicken. Both are very nice and rich in taste. food look very fresh and not watery(hotel tricks to add water in left over curries). one thing i noticed is butter chicken tasted like chicken tikka. We went there cause we're craving for Indian food. They were open at 1100 and ordered right away. The food is alright compared to some Indian restaurants. One thing we hate is waiting, this is understandable if space is busy but whole 45 minutes they have only 3 tables occupied and still we didn't get our food after 35 minutes. I can't believe I had never tried this place before. The food here is AMAZING! Even though it's a bit pricy, you get so much food in every meal which makes the price worth it. I typically don't like Indian food because it's too spicy for me (I have a sensitive palate), but the butter chicken and tikka masala here are perfectly creamy and flavorful without being too harsh on my tastebuds. I only wish they offered butter chicken as part of their lunch special since it's a good deal. Since I've had so many great experiences at Himalayan Grill, I don't feel right about knocking down their overall rating to review the buffet so I'll just say that I'd give the buffet four stars. It's not quite at the same level as ordering off the menu but I feel like buffets rarely are. I did enjoy the buffet more than my vegetarian boyfriend did though but that may be because we both love tikka masala but only I could the buffet version since it has chicken. We usually order the paneer, which is an option on the buffet but in the saag instead. It would have been helpful if the signs on the buffet indicated if the dish was vegetarian or not too. Some are fairly easy to tell, like the veggie korma, but others are more difficult if you're not familiar with all the Indian dishes. Personally, I was a fan of the tandoori chicken and an unlabeled dish that looked to be a stir-fried noodle. The main issue we encountered during the lunch buffet was that several of the dishes were empty and it was a pain to have to wait until they were refilled. We kept our eye on the buffet line whenever we saw someone bring out a replacement to see if the one we were waiting for was being refilled. read more

My boyfriend and I got the butter chicken to share and after going back in for a second helping of it we found a cockroach and a MASSIVE one at that! The food here is so good and they have options for everyone. We order vegan, vegetarian and options with meat and they're all insanely good. My go to is ALWAYS Chicken Korma.
