This is the only place that I have found in the suburbs of Chicago that can actually cut curly hair, and cut it Very Well! Go see Deb! She gives you the time you need to get your ideal hair cut accomplished. She knows curly hair! Other salons always ended up cutting my hair much shorter than I wanted because they couldn't handle that curly hair bounces up much more, the shorter it goes. I always leave here happy. I love Jennifer. She is a miracle worker. This review may be biased because I have Jennifer has been my stylist since she was at Heidi's in Woodfield Mall. However, most of the stylists and colorists have been there since HIP has opened, and that says a lot for a place. There seems to be very little turnover. The only new employees I see are the receptionists and assistants. The other reviewers are correct about the receptionists. It's really hit or miss. They are all very nice but not always the most professional. But I don't believe that they are offensive enough to affect the rating of HIP's quality of work for hair coloring and styling. Back to Jennifer. I love her as a stylist because she just knows how to cut hair well. I now live in Lincoln Park so it is very inconvenient for me to go out to Schaumburg to see her, but I do because she is just that good. I have tried a few places in the city that others have recommended, but no one makes my look the way Jennifer does. She listens and will do what you ask, but will be honest with her opinions. I get compliments on my hair all the time! When I get my color done, I see Jessie. She is very patient and thorough. I am very picky with my hair color. I prefer a dark brown with a reddish violet tone that she gets right every time. Once in awhile when I want to mix it up, she always takes her time to make sure she understands exactly what I want. If you get color done, you will have to dry your own hair. That is one thing that I wish was different at HIP. I know many salons have self-service blow dry stations for color services, but I would rather have a professional dry my hair. Of course, I try to schedule my color before a cut, but sometimes it just doesn't work out that way. This salon uses Bumble and Bumble, Oribe, and Kerastase products. They are priced like any other high-end salon. There are colorists and stylists. They are separate services provided by different people. If you don't like this, then you shouldn't come here. I prefer this because I think everyone has different skills. But I am the type who goes to a tailor not at the dry cleaners. Everyone is very nice. They offer you a beverage while you wait and there are plenty of magazines to read. It's not the fanciest place, but there is a reason they are always fully booked! read more

I adore Danielle and Tyler. They both do fantastic work. But what kills me are a couple of kids who are doing the shampooing on the client's hair. Last time, this girl wore gloves. It hurt my scalp. This time, I asked her not to. She asked me why. I explained it hurt my scalp. I asked her why she wore gloves thinking maybe she had an allergy. She said she didn't want to get color on her hands. I said, " That is part of working in this industry." Then she shampooed my hair and soaked my shirt. Maybe my comment was off putting. The other girl who is supposed to be an assistant was busy using the flat iron that is meant for clients who are not getting their hair styled. This is my first time coming here. Their place was clean. Staff assisted me well. I want to cut and color my hair as gray. I told the staff about it. She first cut my hair and gave it to a dryer. Next she carefully colored my hair. While she colored my hair we just talked to each other. She's friendly and nice. We got along together. I'm not getting bored because of her. I will give 5 stars for a great service. I like the output of their service. I like its color and my hair got soft. It's pretty good for me. Staff does an excellent job. I will give 5 stars for this. Best salon in the area! Found HIP when I tried to find a closer salon in the area since I was going into the city for my hair and it was a costly day for hair. I had checked out a few places in the area on yelp but ultimately tried HIP since their social media had photos of styles I liked. I tried them for my balayage last year and worked with JESSIE. She was extremely nice and cared about my opinion the whole time. It was the happiest experience I had with my blonde hair journey since having it for two years and in different salons. My hair wash was amazing. Every time I come here I feel like I'm in heaven when they wash it. Very relaxing and the make sure you don't get wet. My haircuts have been done with JILL and I just absolutely love her. I love talking to her and she truly puts her heart into it. I went back to my dark roots in October and had my hair colored by someone else (sorry don't remember the name) but she was super nice too! It was a whole salon thing since everyone was in shock I was cutting my long long balayaged blonde hair short and dyeing dark. It was very encouraging to make this dramatic move when everyone kept checking up on it and complimented and encouraged me the whole way. I just returned again to get my hair cut since it had grown out a bit in just a few months. Worked only with Jill again, and yet again had an awesome experience with her. She was very supportive when I told her I wanted it even shorter after she had cut it to my shoulders and even after when I was not too sure with my decision she still instilled confidence in me. I'm a huge fan of Bumble and Bumble and they mainly use their products. This salon is the best and I recommended it recently to a friend that wanted also a nearer salon and she too enjoyed her experience too! A great little gem in our community! I have been going to Nick (colourist) for over 10 years because he is the best he goes above and beyond to make whatever you need done happen. He listens to what I need and want done with my hair and he pulls it off every time. He is a true artist with his work. Nick will not let you leave his chair unless you look runway ready. Visiting the area and couldn't do anything with my hair. It was time for a perm so looked up a salon close to where I was staying. Read a few reviews and figured I'd give it a try. I'm kind of like - it will grow out/back if I hate it. I just wanted a perm as I got a hair cut less then a month ago. Sal, the stylist said it was uneven in spots and he could trim it up a bit. I did not ask prices before I went which is a bad consumer on my end. Got to check ou and it was $175 for a Perm and trim. Wowza! That's a lot for this small town hick girl. Sal did a nice job - just not sure it was worth a $175. So don't be like me and ask how much before you go! read more
