Super cool feel to the bar, but unfortunately, bartenders & staff are off putting.... not friendly. We had to ask three out of our four drinks to be remade. When we paid for our bill, several of the wait staff had to oversee our bill, passing it from person to person. Just odd. read more

If you cant handle dive bars, thats fine. But I must say, honestly, simply, kindly, but firmly, the Bounty serves up meals that rival most steak houses. A dive bar late at night sets a certain kind of scene both clouded and heightened by the effects of alcohol consumption. Typically, the best thing to do is people-watch while nursing your favorite drink, observing, objective, not drunk but not sober. Here at the HMS Bounty, the people are not as interesting as the food. Usually you can't get food at these places, but the Bounty serves some of the best bar food in Los Angeles. While assaults, theft, and occasionally worse can happen on the local streets, they rarely happen to patrons who occupy the Bounty. Like the people who patronize the Bounty, the employees don't care what you think and only nominally care about what you want. Servers here, depending on the day, may be too tired, too old, or simply too busy for your shit today. Order your drinks and food decidedly, no time for questions about dinner specials or specialty drinks. In truth, The Bounty offers delicious meals at prices so low it's hard to comprehend. Steaks, chops, seafood, and all the continental favorites you love and all incredidibly good. Cocktails are priced half of what is expected in L.A.. I am drawn to the Bounty, not because it is a haunt for people of all stripes, or the spot where people go to let go, but because its the kind of place that make L.A. what it is. The HMS Bounty is authentic and unpretentious and serves steakhouse classics at incredible prices. If it weren't for the smartphones on the table, the scene could have just as easily been from five decades ago. read more

GO, NAYELI, GO !!! The other evening was my first time at HMS BOUNTY. Nayeli is an excellent bartender. She is friendly, attends to customers quickly, has a good memory of customers' orders, and makes good drinks. She works fast, as I saw her run from one end of the bar to the other end to make sure that she got every customers' orders. I felt bad for her because she did not have any help behind the bar. She introduced me to two drinks: Brandy Alexander and Grass Hopper. Both were delicious, and now some of my favorite drinks. The prices are affordable, and the environment is friendly. I will be returning to this bar because of Nayeli's friendly and quick service. read more

This is honestly the best lowkey restaurants to eat at in Korea town. The food is authentic and taste great. The bartenders know to how to make drinks and the staff was overall amazing. I would recommend coming here any day of the week. read more

What a hidden gem! We saw this on IG. So my daughter brought me for Mother's Day. They had a Mother's Day special menu, forgot to take a pic, but had prime rib and steak n lobster for $25 and $35? Was not expecting that and was not expecting it to be better than other prime rib places! Steak was tender, lamb was so juicy! The fish n chips are a real treat as well! How can you beat the prices!!!!!! Inside is dark, like other steakhouses, but so wonderfully decorated! Nautical theme. This restaurant is also connected to The Gaylord Apts, which is absolutely historic and stunning! Seems like all the residents go and hang out at the bar. Cuz everyone seemed to know each other! Service was great. IDK what the other posts were talking about. The only thing, was that you have to ask for the bread or maybe she forgot? But I got it! I think this might become my monthly dining spot! Validated parking at the brown derby or metered 1 hr street parking, but we went on a Sunday... so no hour limit. It was easy to find street parking this day. read more

Historic nautical themed bar/restaurant, serving timeless fare since 1962. The space (built 1924) was formerly occupied by The Gay Room, and later The Secret Harbor. Today, the interior is divey yet charming, with plenty of original details preserved. The dining room made an appearance on an episode of Mad Men. The food is old school steakhouse fare, with stiff drinks and lots of butter. My husband and I came here for dinner on a Saturday night; no reservation required. The bar was packed, but the dining room was nearly empty. We sat in one of the plush booths and sipped heavy handed martinis while admiring the various paintings of ships on the walls. The food here will not change your life, but it is good. My husband had the Petite Filet Mignon, which he said was just okay. The Shrimp Cocktail and Caesar Salad were passable, but I loved my entree: Sand Dabs. I ordered these purely because they are rarely found on modern day menus, but they ended up being the highlight of our meal. Lightly fried, they were tender and delicate in flavor. The extremely buttery steamed broccoli and mashed potatoes were ideal accompaniments. Service was excellent. I am glad the HMS Bounty still exists, and hope it is well preserved for years to come. read more

Coming to a friendly, chill Dive Bar in Koreatown is nice, but I forgot there are a lot of hidden gems around here because this is part of "Old Hollywood." Sometimes, the trendy LA bars get overwhelming and can be slightly overpriced. The bar gave me that vibe from the TV show Cheers because regulars came for drinks. This place is located near Boo's Philly cheese steaks at the Gaylord apartments, I work in the area, so I thought I would try something different. When you walk in, it's very dim, but everyone greets you, and you get to sit wherever you want. The prices are reasonable compared to what you pay for LA's famous bars. The food is just your typical bar food, you can check out their online menu; they have wings, mozz cheese sticks, and fries. I will go back often since I work so close. read more

to be completely honest I really did not want to write this review because once people start to find out about this place, it is going to be a bitch to get a seat, but here it is the food there is amazing and delicious! Someone had told me about this place and yes, I read the reviews but for me until I go and try it myself I Didn't know what to expect since it was the first time I've been there . but man talk about being blown away. The steak was so tender that I could cut it with a fork and the vegetables and the mashed potatoes everything just completely and totally delicious. It's a cozy place with a lot of history and some really great decor. It has its own charm to it, the waiters sometimes get into disagreements, and it's funny as hell, it gives something to this restaurant "a realness" I guess you could say . My wife had the salmon and it was sooooo good. We also had the shrimp cocktails which were awesome.!! The Arnold palmers that we had are mixed at the bar,,, again totally delicious !!! I don't know about anybody else but for me "This is one of my go to places from now on". Definitely five stars without question . read more

Don't believe the hype. If they ask if you want bread, say "No." 8/10 The decor is outstanding. Perfect dive bar vibe. The booths and red lighting and cramped space make you feel like you could run into the wrong person in the bathroom and they'd offer you some 98% pure snow before stumbling back to their table. If I were simply going for the vibe and some drinks, maybe this review would be better. 1/10 The food is below sub par. Everything was once frozen, boxed, or overcooked. The clam chowder tasted like frozen shrimp. The ranch dressing tasted like it came from a bottle. The chicken fried steak tasted like beef store bought ramen, which shocked me because as most of you know beef ramen doesn't taste like beef. The chocolate cake may have been purchased from the freezer section in Costco... And the broccoli was bland while tasting like oil and boiled garlic. The broccoli buds fell from their branches as though they'd been boiled to mush but the stem of the broccoli was still crunchy. The bread rivaled those First generation gluten-free experiments. 4/10 The servers we had were both nice enough although one kept commenting on our eating habits and asked if we liked everything every time she was at the table, which made the already bland meal pretty awkward. I have to take some responsibility here though. I'm not being a good customer if I tell you everything is great even when it's not. Is that what everyone else has been doing? Is that why this place has so many glowing reviews? I wanted to like this place. It has all the right ideas but it fails at execution. I just have to believe they got bought out at some point recently. There is no way so many people could possibly praise boxed mashed potatoes or deli meat sandwiches... right? read more

On our way to the Line hotel and in traffic, I eye spied this familiar name. Being of Tahitian descent, one must first and foremost have knowledge of the infamous HMS Bounty. I am and I do. When the topic of dinner came up, I pushed to check it out. The HMS Bounty is a short walk from the Line and after a freshen up, we hoofed it over. The interior is a cross between kitschy nautical and OG steak house. Since we were heading yo a concert at the Hollywood bowl, we decided to saddle up to the bar and leave tables for those wanting a real dining experience. It was much bigger than I expected. Our seat at the end of the bar were place named for long time and gone patrons, it was very nostalgic to know that a fella named Corky had long warmed my very seat with his old ass bum. I was honored. We immediately ordered too MaiTai's, I mean ....but of course we would. Delivered quickly by our lovely bartendress, they proved an excellent choice. A existing patron suggested the baseball steak. So We ordered that coupled with a salad and it was perfect to share. Not sure why they call it that, but I'm thinking maybe its a standard order during ball games? It was a nice sized steak, mash and broccoli on this night. We didn't want to leave, but alas needed to shoo. What a true little gem in the city of angels, Ill gladly be back on my next drop into town. read more

Located in Ktown, I've passed this place multiple times but never actually gone in. The vibe is a tiny pub/dive bar witha warm and cozy setting coupled with low ceilings. I did not come here for food but came here for drinks which were affordable. I got an old fashioned for $8. Though it wasn't the best drink i've had, it was cheap and was not watered down at all. Service was quick and the staff were flexible to accommodate a group of 8 fairly quickly. Would recommend for a quick drink/pregame spot. Might try the food next time but I don't have high expectations. read more

The service here is terrible. Our waitress pretty much ignored us the whole time we were there. Never came back after an initial order. We couldn't get more drinks or more or more food so we just asked for the check and left. There are other places that are better avoid this place. read more

Leslie, our waitress was so amazing. She made me feel real special. I had just landed at Burbank airport at 9:00 pm and was starving. I checked on Yelp for restaurants open after 9:30 pm and found HMS Bounty. I couldn't be more pleased. I got the ribeye and lobster, and the ribeye was so tender you could cut it with a butter knife. Even the vegetables were seasoned just right. Everyone had smiles on their faces. There's just a good atmosphere a full bar and a separate dining area but you can still hear that good music from the bar area. This is a must try! read more

Wow, where do I begin? Driving along Wiltshire Blvd at 7.30pm, the place looked closed and somewhat derelict. Phoned and they said they were open. Entered and the place looked like some seedy bar. There were only a few customers. It was so dark. After being seated we had to take out our phones and switch on our flashlights to read the menu. Ordered drinks. The ginger ale was like soda water with a splash of ginger. The soup of the day was chicken and rice. No real taste with a few vegetables and a big chunk of uncut chicken breast. My companion complained it was cold. They took it away and brought another cup with some stale sourdough bread. No sooner had she started, then the entrée (fish & chips) was dropped in front of her. The food was only just edible. The service was well below par. Had to ask for water 3 times and met with attitude from the server as she dove into the kitchen after the 3rd request. In the end, the bill came to nearly $50. IMO, it wasn't worth more than $25. Used a credit card to pay with no gratuity. Staff intercepted us at the door to complain we hadn't left a tip. I told them it was not warranted and left.I have worked in the service industry and would not have expected anything in return for my lack of effort. Such a disappointment as I had heard nothing but good things about this venue. It appears to have changed hands. I would not recommend anyone waste one penny at this establishment. read more

Definitely not a place I would come back to. I asked if they served margaritas. She said they did and so I ordered a strawberry one with extra Tahin. She brought me the tiniest margarita I have ever been served in my life with little to no Tahin. And as I'm trying to enjoy this sample of a drink, I was told that next time they would not allow me in if I were a tank top. She need not worry, I won't be back. Then as I was leaving, I noticed another guy in a tank top at the bar :-\ It might've been a language barrier, or just the tone in their voice, but the servers here didn't seem friendly. read more

So far so good here. Friendly staff, good prices, tasty eats, I've always eyeballed this place so many times driving by thinking what's inside this place? I'm finally glad I made it in. The burger I had was really good. They have a $35 steak and lobster that I am eager to try here next and will definitely leave an updated review. It's a quaint hole in the wall spot. The place has been in business for over 50 years and it has that certain decor and look to it. There are locals that come in here. This place kind of feels like it has its own bubble to it in the busy confines of Koreatown. I like it. read more

I am always up for a cool room to have a good meal and this place did not disappoint. HMS is truly a grog and the food there is very good. The service is nice when we went there my wife had fallen down outside the door and cut her face and they took very good care of herbefore we sat down to have our meal so yes, I would recommend this place to almost anybody read more

I went here the other night with my girlfriend and we were asked by the security guard to stop kissing, we are queer, (I am a masc AFAB person). It was 1am on a Friday night and the security guard said "This is a family restaurant." They had already stopped serving food for the night and everyone in the bar was way over 21, they checked our ID at the door. I used to go to HMS Bounty years ago and nothing like this has ever happened to me or anyone I know. I saw there are other reviews reporting the same thing, this is really awful, disappointing and also honestly illegal. I was told by the wait staff and a regular that the owner watches on security cameras and is conservative and doesn't allow "that stuff." If you're queer either avoid this place or go and, if you can, make sure they know they can't do what they're doing! read more

I had a great night out at HMS Bounty a few weeks back. I went to do research for an article on Koreatown and got slammed in the name of work while getting dodged by the owner, who clearly neither wants nor needs publicity. Instead of talking to him, I stalked him online and learned that he started working here as a teenager and did every job in the bar before buying it twenty years ago and changing exactly nothing. Hats off to him. He runs a fantastic bar. I went with my friends June K. and Joe S. after dinner at Quarters (where we said goodbye to my husband and toddler so mommy could get her work done). It was the first time any of us had been inside a bar in over a year, and it was weird but also just wonderful. We sat in a booth and ordered drinks from an efficient ajumma, enjoying the homey atmosphere of this old, comfortable nautical bar. We had three rounds of cocktails, and they were all great. I got a gin gimlet and a couple Manhattans, and also drank some of June's dirty martini. This isn't a craft cocktail bar, but the classics are a good bet, and the prices are super reasonable. We rolled out and walked to the Prince (a true 3-cha K-Town night, my first in ages) for a nightcap, and after over a year in lockdown with a new baby, I felt like I'd gotten my youth back. An illusion, of course, but a soft one, just a feeling. Nothing I can't find again with another few rounds. read more

This is one of my favorite places to come in all of Los Angeles, so much so, that, despite having a distrust of Yelp reviews and the people who leave them, I figured I'd finally bite the bullet for the sake of putting some respect on the name HMS Bounty. HMS Bounty is one of the few watering holes left in LA that has retained its old school charm. The nautical themed decor immediately transports you to a different time, and there are hidden bits of its history tucked away throughout the room (and, if you're lucky, a decades-long patron to recant it to you). Even so, this bar attracts a healthy crowd of young people on weekends that give the room a rejuvenating and lively din. The staff here are charming and friendly (if you are respectful--they take care of their own here so one won't get far with belligerence), and it doesn't take many visits to realize this is a big reason why people continue to come back. They work hard. Tip them well. The food itself is simple, classic, and hearty. You won't find anything particularly challenging on HMS Bounty's menu, but their list of American staples are all comforting, and prepared well. Drinks are also simple, though poured with heavy hands, and quite affordable by LA standards. In my opinion, a cheap stiff drink is something that absolutely must be protected in this city. Returning to HMS Bounty often feels like returning home to me, a place I know I can come back to for a solitary read or for meeting new people; for a first date, or after a breakup; for drinks with coworkers, or for dinner with family; for dancing with strangers, for learning something new, for celebrating life, or for mourning loss. This place has been here for me when I needed it, like it's been here for Angelenos for generations. read more

The bar itself has a cozy atmosphere, and the photo booths are a great touch. We first ordered drinks from a female bartender who was friendly, professional, and served us quickly. The restrooms were clean and spacious. Having only two stalls for such a busy venue isn't ideal, but it could always be worse. Later, we went back to order another round. An older white bartender wearing glasses started serving us, and while he was preparing our drinks, he was also taking another group's order at the same time. I completely understood that since the bar was very busy. We ordered two Whiskey Sours and one of the bar's signature cucumber cocktails. The Whiskey Sours were served in margarita glasses without ice instead of traditional whiskey glasses. I assumed they had simply run out of the proper glassware because the bar was packed, so we didn't complain. The real problem started when it was time to pay. The bartender placed the payment terminal in front of the other group instead of us, and they accidentally paid for our order. Instead of acknowledging that it was his mistake, he immediately acted as if it was somehow our fault. We tried to resolve the situation calmly and even offered to pay the other group's bill and buy them an extra drink to make up for the price difference (their bill was about $31, while ours was around $45). When it came time for us to pay, I chose not to leave a tip because of the multiple mistakes that had already happened. At that point, the bartender completely lost his temper. In the middle of a packed bar, he raised his voice and started yelling at us, saying it was disrespectful not to tip him. He also complained that we had ordered drinks that weren't on the regular menu and that making them had taken him "so much time." As a bartender myself, I know exactly how long it takes to make a Whiskey Sour, and it's certainly not an unusually time-consuming cocktail. If preparing it had been a problem, he could have simply told us before taking our order. He continued shouting that the bar was extremely busy, called our behavior "disrespectful" and "f***ed up," and finally told us he would never serve us again. We were honestly shocked. This was the first time we've ever experienced someone reacting this aggressively simply because we chose not to leave a tip, especially after such poor service. I've worked in customer service for years, and I always tip when I receive good service. I would have had absolutely no problem leaving a generous tip if our experience had been pleasant. After that confrontation, we no longer felt comfortable staying in the bar, so we left immediately with a very negative impression. Looking back, I wish I had read the reviews beforehand. It seems that many of the negative reviews mention the exact same bartender. A truly disappointing experience.

A professional would have said "I apologize, where would you prefer to sit? I see you made a reservation, are celebrating an event and we had some unexpected guests for seating options." Perhaps she was having a bad day, or was still reeling from a prior customer interaction but she was NOT up to the standards I equate with Manuela. Walking in, I expected absolute chaos because of all the hype, but the restaurant wasn't overwhelmingly busy. There were actually quite a few empty tables waiting for later reservations. I understand that's how reservations work, but it did make me wonder if some of the "impossible to book" reputation is a bit overblown. The space itself is beautiful. The live wood-fired grill in the center of the dining room is definitely the highlight, and I loved the communal tables that create a warm, lively atmosphere. The warm cornbread with cultured butter was easily the best thing we ordered and an absolute must. It arrived piping hot, incredibly fluffy, with just the right amount of sweetness, and paired perfectly with the rich, creamy butter. The baby albacore was outstanding--fresh, buttery, and perfectly seasoned. It practically melted in my mouth. The beef and eggplant stew, served with fresh tortillas, was another winner: rich, comforting, and packed with flavor. The only dish that didn't really land for me was the pork chop. The cut wasn't my favorite and, despite being cooked well, it tasted surprisingly underseasoned. The mashed potatoes, however, were silky, buttery, and honestly the best part of that plate. Dessert was enjoyable, especially the warm skillet cake with vanilla ice cream, but like much of the meal, it was very good rather than unforgettable. One thing that did catch me off guard was the automatic 4% surcharge added to the bill. It's disclosed, but it's still something to be aware of before dining. Overall, Dunsmoor is absolutely a five-star restaurant. The ingredients are top quality, the execution is thoughtful, the service is polished, and the atmosphere is unique. I just don't personally understand the level of hype surrounding it. I'm glad I finally experienced it, but it's not the kind of place where I'll be watching for the next reservation release. I work within walking distance of the resturaunt/bar, and it has quickly become my go to lunch destination after deciding to try it around a month ago. I started off eating their French Dip, as this is one of my favorite entrees, and it was absolutely delicious. After ordering it for the second time in a row the bartender told me that I really ought to try their hamburgers, and was blown away. First of all I prefer my beef cooked at medium rare, which does not happen at most places when I order it. Typically it comes out over cooked. However, when I cut the burger in half I found the patty to be a beautiful pinkish/red all the way through. My favorite aspect of the bar has to be the people that work their. I am always treated as soon as i walk in the door by either the server or the woman that works behind the bar. They are incredbly attentive, but with that being said I have only been here during the lunch hour during the week. So i cannot comment on how the service is during their peak hours. read more

Dim lighting, plush chairs & wood. It feels like an older version of Maclaren's (from How I Met Your Mother). It's a place I come to for a nightcap after a date or simple girl's night out. I don't need to worry about whether my top is see-through enough, whether my skirt is tight enough, or my heels stripper-high enough. I come in my regular Joe clothes, grab a few drinks in good company, and relax. The best part of it all? If the ambience isn't enough, the prices are DIRT CHEAP. like staggering "IS THIS THE 21st CENTURY?!? OR HAVE I BEEN TRANSPORTED THROUGH TIME???" dirt cheap. My date and I got 5 drinks (2 cranberry vodka, 1 pineapple vodka, 1 whiskey, 1 long island) for $27. I'm very fond of The HMS Bounty. It's a nice, cozy little bar in the Gaylord Building on Wilshire smack in the middle of Koreatown. If you walk in and it seems familiar, it's probably because you've seen it in many films/shows set in an earlier time period. It's the restaurant where Peggy goes out on a date with a truck driver on Mad Men, for example. Dark and generally quiet, it's also a good choice for a first date or a place where you'd like to actually make conversation along with your drinks. The drinks are generally strong, and inexpensive, and the food isn't half bad either, although it's really not the main event. When you need to visit the restroom, you do have to walk through the Gaylord Building's lobby which can be a bit creepy if you've been overindulging in the drinks but otherwise the Bounty is a great place to hang out on a weekday evening. read more

I've been coming to HMS Bounty for more than 10 years, and it continues to be one of my favorite restaurants. The food has stayed consistently amazing all these years -- and I mean that in the best way possible. Every visit feels comforting, familiar, and always satisfying. What truly makes this place special, though, is the outstanding service. Ms. Noy and Ms. Annie always go above and beyond to make everyone feel welcome. Love this place! I've come here often with a group of friends from work and we always get a table. A couple of times we tried to hang by the bar but the locals are NOT friendly. Wow, I have rarely felt unwanted in a dive bar but they managed to do a great job. Fine, whatever. The servers don't care that we set up shop at a table and happily brought food and drinks to us for the evening. Most of us were drinking the beer and a shot special. I had the Monte Cristo which I am now slightly obsessed with. My co-worker always gets the fish and chips. Everyone else had either burgers or sandwiches and they looked good as well. read more

When I first dined at the Bounty I did not expect the food to be good. It looks so much like your basic bar and usually these kinds of places do not make good food. I was wrong. The food is very good. They make a great salmon plate. The onion rings are wonderful. They also do a very decent fish and chips. The food and drink prices are also reasonable. The interior is dark like a bar but the ambiance is wonderful. The entire restaurant interior has stained knotty pine wood paneling and red upholstered booths. Came in for lunch today on my day off and was happy to see a big lunch crowd. Had a great French dip, coleslaw, and onion rings. It wasn't anything fancy but I don't always want that anyway. The meat was great quality, nothing chewy and not fatty. The best part? They have a drink special of a Tecate and shot of whiskey or tequila for $5.50. The place is all about old Hollywood. Just blocks away from where the famous Ambassador Hotel, Coconut Grove and Brown Derby used to be. It's located on the fist floor of the historic Gaylord apartments in Wilshire Center. If you want to hear some stories about Los Angeles in the 1950's then pull up a seat at the bar, there will be plenty of old-timers waiting to give you a history lesson. I have now been here a few times, and I have to say I LOVE IT! This is pub is a classic. As you walk in the lights are dim, and it is almost as if you have stepped back in time. The decor is reminds you of an old mafia hangout, and makes me personally feel welcome and at home. The service is supurb, and the food is delicious and moderatly priced. HMS bounty is a rare gem in Koreatown. There are not too many neighborhood bars that would make a Chicago guy like myself feel at home. Great atmosphere, fast and friendly service, and great food for the price. I'd read about HMS Bounty as an old Los Angeles haunt for celebrities. The Ambassador Hotel used to be across the street and that probably added to the celebrity sitings at HMS Bounty. Some were such regulars that some of the booths have bronze plaques indicating whose table it was. It was a nice venue and the food was far less expensive than I expected. read more

And when food is this poorly executed, all of the little things that I used to consider acceptable tradeoffs suddenly get magnified: -deadbeat/snarky counter service -included sides that have never been any good (such a waste) -filthy tables that don't get bussed or wiped down -ridiculously long wait times (after ordering tonight, it was close to an hour before we got our food...during a very un-busy shift) This place has fallen so far from its original glory, if I were the owner, I'd shut down for a month or two and think long and hard about whether I have any passion left for this sort of business, and whether I have enough motivation to perform a badly needed reset. Otherwise, what's the point? To offend people and take a their money? I've seen similar recent reviews so I'm never coming back to Crawford's. But I have hope for the owners and their future customers.

The hot dog was one of those great snappy dogs that I adore. Pepper relish didn't do as much for me since it was definitely overpowered by the proper French Dijon mustard drizzled on top. Very honorable notice to their veggie sticks...genius large matchsticks of celery and cucumber marinated in a soy vinaigrette and then showered with Furikake. I'm gonna steal this for home use. Shout out to Adam, who took care of us. If this was my 'hood, they'd be taking my money at least once a week.

Both the blackened shrimp skewers and the mushroom skewers were delicious, cooked perfectly and pleasantly hot and tender. Cajun fries were great too of course. My one note would be that the cocktail list is not super inventive -- I'd love to see more southern-style specialty drinks in addition to the regular margaritas, etc.
