Awesome food. Great gluten free options you can't find in most restaurants. I had the hobo stew and it was a must try. Thick and hearty.

I was out with some friends a few weeks ago and we wanted to grab lunch somewhere, and one of them suggested Hobo's Tavern for the perch. Not being from Michigan, perch is one of those things not very accessible, so I didn't eat much of it growing up. Up here, it seems to be everywhere! We arrived on a Sunday afternoon about 3 and got a nice big round corner booth. Our server popped over and sat down with us to take our order (something one person in our group commented he doesn't like) and away she went. Our food came out fairly quickly. I did the perch sandwich, eating part of it as a sandwich and picking the rest of it apart and just eating the fish. The french fries that came with it were pretty gosh darn good too. My only complaint.. I think the prices were a bit high. The perch dinner (which wasn't an all you can eat perch like some other places) that a friend got was $20.. which it a little more than I would have expected. read more

We stopped here with two friends after their beach wedding. The bride was still in her dress and the groom in his tuxedo. Other then a few congrats from the friendly staff no discount on food or drinks were offered. This place has two restaurants back to back. I am not certain what the difference is except one is more upscale but the same menu from what we were told. We ordered appetizers and drinks. The food was as ordered with no issues. The drinks were wine and 1 draft beer, so they were what we thought they would be. I would have gave this place 5 stars if they made us feel a little more welcome. They have TVs to enjoy the sports. The place to enjoy the beautiful Michigan summer and fall weather and get some island vibes, mon! We never went inside so only got to experience the outside area which was wonderful. Soft sand, palm trees, umbrellas for shade and water feature makes this a relaxing place to chill. Drinks were very good and well priced and food was very good. We had a wonderful server (sorry I cannot remember his name) but he helped make our time together with visiting cousins even better. What a gem. read more

Pros: The server was very friendly, we got seated quickly, and received our food quickly. My husbands' hot and tangy wings were pretty good. The pretzel dippers dip was yummy. Cons: I ordered the perch Reuben and it tasted like absolute nothing. No seasoning, no flavor, just texture. My pickle wasn't even good, super rubbery, and the broccoli also had no flavor whatsoever. I thought maybe it was me (COVID scare) but I could taste the wings just fine. The pretzel dippers also definitely were only reheated, not homemade. Overall, very average experience. Stopped in because we were starving and it was on our route home during a road trip. There are two restaurants- Hobo's Tavern and Hobo's Pizzeria. I wanted pizza but they weren't open yet. Fantastic menu- stews and soups, great variety. Nice ambiance. Really great attentive service. The food was disappointing. Mr. Yelp ordered the "surf n turf" - fried lake perch and a cheeseburger with fries. I ordered the chicken Parmesan sandwich with chips. The burger was just a burger. No seasoning or anything tasty at all. The perch was great. The CP sandwich was (sadly) on a hamburger bun rather than garlic bread or ciabatta (which they did have available for panini's". The marinara was bland and had large tomato chunks. I requested extra sauce before I tasted it and it was seriously stone cold. The chicken was actually black (not blackened) on one side and tasted burnt. Perhaps we should have asked about specialties or the servers favorite dish. Boneless wings were okay. Nothing special. Would try the bone in next time. Pretzels were good w the cheese sauce. Had the shrimp tacos which were missing something. Not enough flavor. The steak was decent. The ribs were amazing. Falling off the bone. My sons salad was great and his strawberry lemonade was phenomenal. Literally worth it. The Manhattan I had was good. Service was great, never hesitated to check in all her tables. She was kind and wore a cheetah mask. read more

Came to this establishment after a day at the amusement park. I have to admit we came because of the creative name and eye-catching exterior. The atmosphere was great, nice clean efficient kitchen that you can see, friendly servers. Everything looked great. For food, we tried their beef stew because they promoted this as one of their specialties, they were delicious, tasted very homey can comforting. We also ordered their Texas burger - 1/2 lb burger with brioche bun, onion straws, bacon and BBQ sauce. Their burger was really tasty, freshly grilled taste, perfect balance between fat and meat, all around well-made. I am admittedly not a huge burger fan but I made an exception for this one! I wish this place wasn't 2 hrs away but next time we are in the area, this place will definitely be on the list to visit. read more

If you're considering going to Hobo's Tavern anytime soon, do yourself a favor and DON'T. 3 times in a row now (over only a couple short weeks) we've had awful awful service. It has gone down hill fast. From forgetting to put our order in on multiple processions, paying for a surprise birthday dessert that we never got and waiting well over an hour for just a sandwich to never receive it, it's been awful. Such a waste of our time. Take your business somewhere that has decent service so your time, and money, are not wasted like ours was yet again this afternoon. After well over an hour for a wrap and sandwich, keep in mind both kids waiting with us as well, we left without food and still hungry as it was never made. read more

FYI, if you are a NASCAR fan, don't eat here! My husband and I thought the place looked fun & wanted to finish watching the race. We sat at the bar, and when we asked if they could put the race on the TV; we were told that the owner doesn't allow NASCAR on the TV??? Never in my life have I been told something like that! Yummy abundant food. Extensive gluten free menu. Plenty of servers so our meal came quickly even though the place was packed. This is GF Cajun Bleu Burger...so big it can't fit in your mouth as is. The lady and I had a hankering for some food so first we went too 794 kitchen and bar and waited their for a HALF HOUR and nobody came to sit us!!! So we desided to come to hobo tavern and to put it simplee...... we'd rather still be waiting in line at 794 kitchen and bar. 1st of , the gal can't even tell the difference btweeen Cuban and corn beef!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 2nd of decoratons are teribel. Always great food and great service even when they're busy. My favorite on the menu is the Beef Tips...ooooh they're so amazingly good and the sauce is to die for delicious. Our family fell in love with Hobo's during the Covid lockdown when we wanted a good meal that we could bring home. Hobos always prepared the takeaway meals so they'd still be hot and perfect once we got them home. We'd do the family meals as well. I highly recommend their ribs. Tasty food, decent prices, and a no-attitude atmosphere--give it a shot! I'm a big Hobo's fan. Hit this place up every chance I get. North Muskegon needs a place like this: reliably cooked food you can count on, prices that won't break you, and a fun, inviting atmosphere that somehow magically accommodates both family-style restaurant goers and sports bar enthusiasts. Pool tables and shuffleboard tables await in the back if that's your game. TVs carrying various sporting events line the perimeter of the building. The staff are mostly local residents who are well familiar with their beloved North Muskegon, and they work hard to make sure you're happy during your visit. I've tried everything from their burritos to ribs to their perch dinner. Have yet to taste a disappointing meal. And there's often live music by acts like Tommy Foster on certain nights. Always a good time. You can also tell it's a great spot because it's the kind of place the staff like to frequent on THEIR days off! Tons of off duty servers, bartenders, and hostesses line the bar on any given night. North Muskegon doesn't have too many options for good food and good drink, but that doesn't stop Hobo's from striving for excellence nonetheless. Came back for my birthday lunch. Covid precautions are being practiced here, beginning when you walk into the foyer where there is a hand sanitation station. When waiting for a table, you are asked to wait in your car until they call you. There are clear partitions between each booth, all the center tables have been removed, bar stools removed to accommodate 6 foot distancing and all staff wear mask. Hi five for practicing safe practices. We had a great lunch with Hobo's Perch Dinner and their Chicken Wrap. Birthday guest can have up to 13.99 off their check as a birthday reward. Hobo's continue to have a consistent delicious food with so many menu choices. Maybe this is the reason their parking lot is full most days of the week. We stopped here for dinner after our daughter's volleyball game down the road. The service was prompt, polite, and very friendly. We enjoyed the refried beans appetizer and finished it all. The atmosphere is very laid back and relaxed. Our food was delicious and each of the three of us cleaned our plates. We had the penne pasta with shrimp, tenderloin tips and chicken Caesar salad. Didn't come for food, just for drinks and I liked that my cousin, her friends and I were able to have a conversation where we didn't have to shout to be heard. Also, their drink selection was extensive, which was impressive. Any kind of drink you can imagine, they can serve it up for you. They also have a very cozy fireplace that is nice to sit by and a patio where you can bring your drinks out on and have a smoke, if you so choose. Also, their women's bathroom was very clean and cute with a purse border, pink walls, and pictures of hair do's from various decades.
