What a little gem of a place in Muskegon! Traveling to Muskegon for camping, I also drive by this place. What draws me to it from the outside is how they have it decorated with a lot of white string lights. It always looks so cozy from the outside. Well this past weekend, I finally had the chance to check it out. Approaching the buildings it is a bit confusing as to which one to check out, as Hansome Hobo is right next door and almost looks connected with the decorative lights. The menus on the side of the outside wall of the Tavern though as a great moment to stop and check out. This way you can tell which establishment you'd like to go into. We decided on the Tavern. When you walk in, it is very eclectic inside - in a total fun creative way. The mood is a bit darker to make you feel nice and cozy. The server was friendly, attentive and came in to check in on us at all the right moments. The menu has a lot of offerings from seafood to steak, to burgers, to entree sized salads, to burritos, etc. Who I was with ordered the burrito and was advised by the waitress to order the half. He is glad that he did because it was still quite large in size. I will definitely come back here when in Muskegon and encourage others to as well. read more

We were passing through North Muskegon and took a gamble not knowing what to expected. We simply wanted outdoor seating, but got that plus Great food and great service. From the Salmon to the pizza to the sandwiches - real good!! So glad they we open and doing things right given the CoVid situation. We will go back next time we are in the area. read more

We came here after a day of fun at Michigan's Adventure, and it exceeded our expectations. We thought it would just be a typical bar and grill type place, but the food was amazing. A solid 4. It is a nice place, crazy busy for a Wednesday night. A nice menu, lots of selections from American to Italian to Mexican. A nice draft beer selection, but overall not cold enough. Probably mid to low 40's. Had the pretzel appetizer, the beer cheese sauce was made from scratch, was good. Would have been better with some stone ground mustard... Had the godfather sandwich, I am torn on it. The bread and sauce were great, but the Italian sausage patty was the typical commodity bought frozen patty and the chips I got were bottom of the bag scraps. Lots of potential, but was still pretty decent. I'll be returning to try something else. I'm intrigued, as there was plenty of 5 star reviews. Will update after my next visit read more

We traveled to this town for a lake trip from Nebraska. This restaurant is one of the very few places to eat in this town. It was an average place to eat at. Food was bland and mashed potatoes were dry. Ribs were the saving grace of the meal. Overall it was an okay restaurant. read more

This place gets 4 stars from me for the Cooper Special alone. It's soooo good. Although it does seem like every time we order it, it's different. Lately they've been really skimpy with the extras (onions, kraut, green peppers) and you pay extra for them! C'mon, Hobo's! I love the grenade glasses they use for their medium-sized beers. My girlfriend went there last week for lunch and ordered 2 salads. The chicken on both of the salads was tough to chew let alone cut. The inside was cold and it tasted really bad. We did let the waitress know and she indicated they precook all their chicken and microwave it and place it on the salads. Since we are paying $12.00 for a salad you would think they would serve food you can eat. The waitress apologized but offered nothing more than an apology. Probably the best place in North Muskegon for a casual dinner or drinks. A good addition to the dining and drinks options on the northside of Muskegon. Newer than the alternatives and nicer, too. We eat here every time we come to town, and I've never had a bad meal. In addition to the usual assortment of fried appetizers, burgers, steaks, BBQ ribs, and such, Hobo's has great soups/stews, fried perch, and brats. In fact, I recommend the perch dinner or the the Cooper's Special (4 brats and a pitcher of beer for twelve bucks). The service here has been very friendly and prompt. They've been very accommodating when my sister or friends have brought their children at dinner time. A good full bar, nice decor (including a fireplace), and while they have a few screens about, it's not really a sports bar, and I didn't find the TVs as distracting or intrusive as they are at many bars. read more

EAT HERE!!! NOW!!! After a day a Michigan Adventure I did a yelp check for any decent place to eat nearby. Chose Hobo's and was not disappointed at all. Pulled in and saw a full parking lot. We were worried there would be a long wait. Nope! Hostess sat us right away. Drinks were ordered and on the table in the blink of an eye. Same with the food. Everything was cooked perfectly. My wife and I went there for our anniversary. I had the full rack of ribs, and she had something that was supposed to be like a shepherds pie. This was the worst food I have ever eaten. You can tell that they microwave their food, my ribs had been microwaved and then slathered with barbecue sauce. My wife's shepherds pie was microwave so long that it was burnt. If you are going to go to this place I would recommend that you order the hamburgers, that seemed to be the only thing that their chefs were actually cooking, everything else came right from the microwave. read more

We wanted to go to the Handsome Hobo pizzeria, but it was lunchtime and they don't open till 4pm. Fortunately, Hobo's Tavern shares the same parking lot and smelled delicious so we chose to stay and eat here. We were so glad! The food was very good, although just slightly higher priced than in a non-tourist area (maybe a dollar or two more). The atmosphere was interesting and clever, the restaurant was very clean and our server was cheery, outgoing and prompt. I will definitely come back if I find myself in this area again. The word "tavern" in the title is a bit misleading. This restaurant is really nice and I would absolutely feel comfortable bringing the whole family. read more

After several years of being a Yelp user, but never writing a review, Hobos is getting my first one. We got in town about 10:30 the Friday of Memorial Day weekend. We just wanted to grab our kids a bite to eat and hopefully a beer for us. We pulled up Yelp for suggestions for "kid friendly" restaurants. We went to 2 other places first and were rudely being turned away, even though they advertise "good for kids". We called Hobos to make sure kids were ok and were told to come on in. When we arrived everyone from the hostess to the server was welcoming. The environment was exactly what we were looking for, food was great, especially the Beef Stew. They have a great selection of craft beers and a full bar. They have pool, shuffleboard, and TV's. Our only regret is not getting there sooner, so we could have stayed longer. I've eaten here many times over the past few years. I am continually more disappointed with every visit. My last meal there was the final straw. The perch is delicious but I have gotten sick twice from it and many friends have as well on various occasions. They also have a to go fee that makes carry out more expensive than dining in. The last visit there were three of us and we were all disappointed. My wife wanted her salad in a wrap which is less food apparently but cost $1 more. I had the Godfather sandwich with onions and green peppers. That's what I ordered at least. There was a single slice of pepper and basically one onion 'ring'. The marina sauce was non-existent. My buddy ordered a burger and the bun was burnt. There are too many other fantastic options in the Muskegon area to waste a meal here. read more

I had the $15 special - sizzler plus 3 pcs lake perch and it was fantastic. I'm not a big eater so I ate the best first which was the perch. Very very good. Actually, perch was excellent. Steak was ok and cooked to my satisfaction but not enough spices and I could not taste any garlic. I would order again but request garlic on steak. read more
