I haven't been to the Hole-in-the-Wall for about a year but I found this to be the best barbecue in Seattle. The meats are smoked on-site and it's a darn tasty smoke. This place certainly isn't the only BBQ place in town that smokes it's own, but this tastes truer to the BBQ aficionado vibe. I've had barbecue in Kansas City (my favorite), Lockhart, Texas (so-called BBQ capital of Texas), and St. Louis. I've mostly been disappointed by Seattle's lack of real 'cue, but Hole-in-the-Wall is a worthy fix. This isn't quite up to the standard of the BBQ meccas, but it's very tasty. BBQ is hard to come by in this neighborhood, and some co-workers and I were craving it, so enter yelp and Hole in the Wall (literally). The place is tiny with just a few counter seats. Take-out seems to be the majority of their business. That being said, we ordered beef brisket, pulled pork, and the special pig with lipstick, hunkered down on the stools and proceeded to eat. Non-pizza catering for a group?? And good food at that? Yusss. My work frequently orders pizzas for big events because it's hard to go wrong with that. For a change of pace, word spread around about how good this place is. We ordered from them for a summer event last year... So far, we've used them for a couple of bigger events and have not heard any complaints! In fact, we've gotten rave reviews. As for as large group catering goes, they're actually decently priced. You get your money's worth and their delivery staff have always been very nice, helpful and accommodating. I'm always wary of BBQ in the PNW. While we do seafood right, BBQ is more a Southern thing. I've had really amazing BBQ in the South so my standards are somewhere between high and complete jackassery so I try extra hard for people not to just dismiss my BBQ reviews. My bf was in the mood for BBQ, so after Yelp research we decided to hit up Chuck's Hole in the Wall for lunch to sate his craving. We both ordered pulled pork sandwiches - mine a tad spicier than his - and a shared a side of beans. The sandwiches were brimming with juicy, flavorful meat - YUM. Very messy in the best way possible. I loved the BBQ sauce, though the bread could be a bit sturdier as it was sort of melting from it. The beans were smokey and delicious. The Brisket was tastier than the Pork which I found a little dry. 6.75 plus tip for a lone Sandwich is a little High in my opinion. The name of this place is exactly what it is, it's a hole in the wall. The kind of place a person could easily miss if they we're walking by. I stopped by here for lunch for the first time and the pulled pork sandwich hit the spot. The potato salad was ok, tasted like the big tubs of potato salad you can buy at Costco. It's only open for lunch and the guy calls you mate, so reminds me of the guy from Crocodile Dundee. Another plus is that there is no tax, it's included in the price already. I walked in and the gal at the counter was very friendly and welcoming. She let me take my time browsing the menu. I got the BBQ chicken sandwich. I was given the choice of regular and spicy. I'm glad she gave me the option. I was also given a fork. At first I didn't understand why but once I unwrapped my sandwich I realized how much chicken they pack in. Ventured here for lunch today and I'm pleased! Arrived around 12:30 to about 5 or 6 people in front of us and we were out the door with our food in 10 minutes or so. I got the Pig with Lipstick, basically pulled pork sandwhich with slaw and pickles and it was great. Pork is good, and slaw adds the right amount of texture. The place smells of that delicious wood smoked BBQ. The place ain't fancy nor spacious, but the BBQ is really good. I'm a fan of the beef brisket, but Thursdays and Fridays they have pork ribs which looked perfect (fall off the bone. No fat). Also, the pulled pork looks really good as well. Both of those are on my list next time I stop in. If you get hungry, try double the meat for a few extra bucks. The only thing negative I could say about the place is they use a hamburger buns for the sandwich which really can't hold up to the stresses when it gets saturated with BBQ sauce, but they give you a fork to eat with, which works. This is my favorite bbq in Seattle, without a question. My only criticism is that they are open less than 20 hours a week. I always get the Hole Pile with brisket. Good ol'e mainly Texas style BBQ with a few other styles thrown in. All executed well at a reasonable $. Like other Yelpers, the brisket is a personal favorite adding a spike for good measure. The sides are also great with the baked beans containing a healthy dose of bacon. Recommended: the Lipstick on a Pig. Pulled pork topped with slaw and a hot and sweet mustard and pickle. Hole in the Wall is a great little BBQ shop, the folks there are friendly and the "hot, hot, hot" sauce burns good. They're also a pretty good low carb option, especially with their combo plates. Pick two meats and a side of slaw! Protip: On Monday they have meatloaf. Get a plate with meatloaf, pork, and slaw. Eat the tasty meatloaf then dump the slaw over the remaining pork and mix well. I work a few blocks northeast of Pioneer Square, but I have rarely ventured down there cause 1) extra exercise up a hill on the way back, 2) Pioneer Square kind of smells, and 3) I hate pigeons... I guess after two years, I have exhausted every food places near my work place so I decided to overcome my fear of pigeons and endure the smell and extra exercise to check out this place. The menu was pretty standard for small BBQ joint like this. Shredded meat in sauce on buns, a few side dishes and chili. I decided to get the BBQ pork and their "international renown" baked beans, as the guy working the counter described. Total comes to $8.25. The sandwich was good. The pork was moist and tender, and the amount of sauce was perfect. Enough for the taste, but not drenched on. I got the regular so it wasn't spicy at all. The beans was also delicous. It went well with the BBQ sauce and I enjoyed the distinct smokey flavor that came with it. Overall, if you have a craving for BBQ in downtown, this place is worth trying. read more

I love this place! Every time the people are friendly and efficient and the food is excellent - smoky and spicy. I would eat here every day if my waistline could handle it! As an example, while I usually get the Whole Pile with brisket (which is lunch for at least two days), I ran in here just before closing for lunch on a Friday. They had run out of beans and cornbread (mind you it was 10 minutes to closing at the end of the week) so instead they gave me a box full of all the different types of meats and some coleslaw. It was a great way to try essentially the whole menu and they were so helpful when I was obviously starving at 2:30 :) Next time your in line at Il Corvo next door, take a couple more steps and be delighted with this place instead! read more

Diane is the nicest person. She went over the menu with us, made recommendations on the meats and sides, and was really friendly, which is appreciated. The menu is small but there is still a good variety. They can combine meats on a sandwich (I had beef & pork), and they were both excellent. Cooked perfectly, not dry, not drowning in sauce.
