This review is for the Tool Rental department. They made my visit super easy!!!! I was in and out of there in less than five minutes. And boy I'll tell you, I had no idea what I was doing. Lol. We needed to borrow a material lift for work. They had one ready to go. It was either a four hour rental or a twenty four hour one. We went with the four hour rental. And after they checked the equipment for me and got my deposit ($150 on my credit card) they answered my small list of questions like pros, and helped me get the lift into the back of our truck. Such awesome service, and with smiles too!!! I am glad to recommend these awesome tool experts to anyone in need of a tool rental. I know I will be back the next time I get thrown a curve ball and need a tool to make my job easier. Thanks guys!!! read more

Beware of smooth talking customer service representatives. Went in to ask how to make a claim on an item under the Home Depot protection plan by Allstate. One customer service representative was spot on by giving me the Allstate brochure and to contact the number listed on the brochure. Another customer service representative, Roger, was ignorant. He stated the protection plan expired since it was purchased 3 years ago. On the brochure, it stated the the plan covers the purchase for 2 or 3 years AFTER the manufacturers warranty expires. Roger said he was taught that the plan only lasts 2 years from purchase date. We asked again, are you sure? And he said that is what he was taught. Another female customer representative agreed with Roger. Then she ran away. Roger then said "I want you to leave satisfied, so I will sell you another one at a discount." My contractor, who was with me, said it does not make sense to buy a protection plan that covers only the warranty period. So we left. Later, I contacted the Allstate insurance company and they will issue a check for a replacement of the product. read more

My highest compliments to Tanya of the ProDesk, Manager Brandon (sp?), and delivery specialist Emilio for the very best customer service, super courteous communications, and positive attitude. I'll be honest, my recent purchase of a propane gas grill ran into some glitches, but at no fault of the Honolulu store staff. As soon as I was put in touch with Tanya and Brandon I received over-top customer service. They are truly the best at their jobs! Home Depot should assigned them to train all HD staff on how to deliver the best customer service! That's how good they are! Emilio was very courteous and patient as well, allowing me to take my time to ensure that the gas hose and connections were safe and operating properly. Please answer the phone... Home Depot is awesome because they have everything you need. However if you have questions good luck getting them on the phone and good luck finding someone to help you in the store. Can't express how many times I've needed some help in power tools and had to go to lighting to find someone who can call for help only to wait 10-15 minutes for assistance. I think the next time I go I'll bring a stool or something to sit on while I wait. I will say that despite the wait time, 7/10 times the sales advisor is very nice! I've experienced a few who were in a rush and I told them politely "it seems you have something on your mind, if you could please do me a favor and call someone to help me so you can do your thing I'd appreciate it." So go to Home Depot and take it with a grain of salt. read more

Unfortunately my washer stopped working during the pandemic. After looking online I thought I might be able to get a new one at Home Depot. Went in with pictures, measurements, etc to make sure I got correct washer. Salesman said they could order and over a month later it was in, delivered a week later. Before it even went into my building the delivery guy was on top of it, telling me this was not a stackable washer...which was what I thought I ordered. So the salesman, on purpose, ordered a machine he knew wouldn't work. I did not accept it and it was returned. My money refunded but not full amount. I called Home Depot and asked if they had the patio table I was looking for. I was told that they did and so I drove out but when I got there I asked and the first person said he didn't know and to ask that fellow over there. I asked the next person and he too said I don't know, I don't think so, there aren't any over here. One more time and after saying that I had called and was told there was one here no success. I decided to call the store from inside the store and reached a woman in the garden department whose response was, "well you didn't call me"! Finally I came across Julie and she went out of her way to look up the item and find it where it was sitting along with three other of the same item. She helped us load it up and arranged for it to be taken to our car. I would give her five stars but maybe more training is needed. read more

Went to this location @ Alakawa I needed some poplar planks and plywood for a project. Plus several other repair projects. So my total expense would have been about $500. I got my materials and just needed some lumber cut...no associates around. I went looking for one found her and asked for some lumber cut " the machines broke ..sorry" she then turn around and walk away. Only one machine was broke and I could have cut my plank at home the plywood sheet saw was working and i needed my plywood cut to measure so fit in my car and was project ready. So I left my materials where it was. I was very P. O. I wouldn't write this if it was a one time event but I returned a couple weeks later Saw was fixed still no help around I asked an associate with a "pro"apron on and all I got was excuses. So I left my materials on the cart but the saw again. So I gave up on this store #1701 ( ik the number cuz I used to work.there) And I went to the new Māpunapuna store and this time I found someone and asked for a wood cut. They radio someone a guy showed up helped another customer and disappeared. Once again leaving my $500 worth of supplies next to the saw machine. I did almost buy my materials from Lowe's but I wanted hardwood and Lowe's had pine precut to my measurements so almost went there but again need plywood cut and no body home, city mills lumber was poor quality most unsuitable for my project. So bottom line the big boxes have really put the DYI back into the shopping experience. Used to work for big orange some years ago and many of the sales associates that passed me by would have been let go for poor performance....customer service overall in all categories (food, markets, retails) has really fallen off the cliff ambivalence. If I could leave ZERO stars, I would. Purchased security screen doors on Thursday and left them at will call for pick up on Saturday morning (needed to borrow a truck to pick them up). Saturday morning rolls around and the doors are nowhere to be found. Evidently they were not labeled and were put back and sold. It takes them 45 minutes to figure this out. They no longer have the doors in stock. So they need to find it at another location. They have it at Pearl City. They put it on hold for us there. This takes another 45 minutes. Then we are told that they have to refund us now and we have to repay for it at Pearl City for a reason that doesn't make any sense. Which is annoying since now we have to call in the payment because someone else has to pick it up for us. So then they're trying to refund us and can't get it to work so we wait. And we wait. An hour later... We leave the store TWO AND A HALF HOURS latee WITHOUT our doors. Bullsh*t. read more

I'm not sure what there is to say about the Home Depot here in Honolulu that hasn't already been said about any other Home Depot. That isn't a criticism or a compliment of Home Depot - just an observation that the franchise model has been very successful, and that these "big box" stores are almost identical, no matter where you go. You want a tool or a building product, they probably have it here. The aisles are long and full of stuff. If your object is out of stock, they can order it. If you buy it online, you can pick it up here when it arrives. Staff can help you get stuff down from pallets on high, or help tow it to your vehicle on carts. It is worth pointing out a little of the local flavor. Staff remains consistently solid, and are always willing to help point you either to the right aisle for the tool or building product that you are looking for - or to a colleague of theirs who can help you. They are willing to offer advice on building projects if it is within their expertise. Returns are fast and easy and uncomplicated if you have the original receipt or the credit card that you made the initial charge with. The garden center has a surprising amount of material produced by local nurseries. read more

I went there to look for rubber Mats , I asked a worker with a Home Depot if she works here or just a vender stocking their products , She answers me with "yeah! What you like!!??? I was like what ?? What kind of customer service is that? I was shocked and wanted to tell her that you should not answer to me that way. She called out to the other worker working at the appliance area if she knew where the rubber Matt's are, then another worker came to help and was nicer and it calm me down. I guess somebody hacked my girls home depot credit card and they did a investigation. It was a online purchase for 5xx for a saw. They went back and forth with her told her wait 30 days In 60 days they sent a letter that said she still has to pay the 5xx dollars. We asked for footage of whoever picked up the saw and which location we got no help at all. Now we have to pay 5 hundred some odd dollars for absolutely nothing. I did an online in store pick up order so I could get in and out, ended getting home to find out I was missing a very important piece to a brass floor outlet that I purchased. They're good at returning as long as you have your receipt or cc. But it's the inconvenience of driving back to Home Depot to get a replacement piece. read more

Why do I even bother trying to call this location? I tried last night and waited a half hour with nobody picking up. I figured maybe they're busy and it's the end of their day, maybe not too many people working... Today I'm waiting on the phone yet again. I am hearing the same two prerecorded messages. Obviously, our calls are not very important to you. I dont even want to wait to take a screenshot of how long this call is going to last on hold. I'm already at 11 minutes on hold. If you research online for a product and it says limited stock and to call the store... DO NOT bother! You could probably leave from the big island and get to the store faster than anyone picking up the phone to assist you. This is so upsetting and makes me not want to shop here. Home Depot seems to be the place to go for all fix-it needs-even if you are fixing up a boat. We have been here on numerous occasions but I'm finally getting around to writing a review. I've had to take a few things back and the line is usually long. But the cashiers should go to Costco to show them how to do it. I got through the line surprisingly fast (whereas not so fast at Costco). I appreciate how hard working & nice they are even with grumpy customers. Since I get sent for things by my husband that I don't always know or understand, I've had to deal with lots of Home Depot employees. I am always surprised how much they know about the parts and things scattered around the store. Today, a gentleman in Electrical (I wish I got his name) helped me find a combo smoke/heat and CO detector that was not in the smoke detector section but with ceiling fans??? How he knew that they were there was amazing. And he stopped what he was doing to help me & even what size screws to get since I needed stainless steel ones-so kind! Then there was an employee in hardware (I didn't get her name either) that found the perfect screws in an aisle full of ones that looked so similar!! She was also nice and patient with me who wanted to be sure so I didn't have to come back. My only suggestion is to get more help. There were so many aisles without staff-and so many people like me who need them. Tonight, my husband says "I hate to say it but we need to go to Home Depot tomorrow" but I know I'm going to a good place! read more

She annoyingly demands as I waited for her to finish her conversation. Instead she gets on her little radio and calls someone else to deal with me. Lowes beat out HD today. Home Remodel Review Challenge #2: Years ago, someone once told me, "If you want better selection, go to Lowe's. If you want better prices, stick with Home Depot." And for years, that was my decision making equation. Most of my renovation supplies came from Home Depot (HD). It wasn't so much about price as it was the follow through service. Plumbing, hardware, pest control. lighting, electrical, carpeting, showers, washer/dryer... basically everything except the kitchen appliances were in HD. I like how there are lot attendants that help you unload heavy returns, or bring bulky purchases to you car. There is one guy with an "A"--Antonio? Anthony? that is just the best. So friendly and enthusiastic, and has been so helpful many times. I had a trunk full of flooring tile (yeah, I had too much junk in my trunk) and he ran over to me offering help onto the pallet carts. I also saw him aid a young couple after they bought a fridge and came running to them. Whatta guy! Returns are right at the entrance and the lines go fairly quickly. I love that they can access your purchases through the credit card you used. Sweet!... so I don't have to stuff my wallet full of chubby receipts! Service is fairly consistent, however expect some self-reliance during peak hours when all the attendants are busy helping others. They also do special events with the community in their parking lot, esp Saturdays so be aware of traffic or little kids in the area. As far as delivery goes, HD was right on top of it. Delivery date was met, attendants were professional and very friendly, appliance condition/performance as expected. Carpeting has discounted extra fabric on the side if you're doing a project like my stairs. Overall, I would choose HD for my home renovation needs! read more

The staff here are NOT friendly to people with disabilities. I told a woman 3 times that I was partially deaf and she still wouldn't speak up. I had to ask multiple people for help, because people wouldn't take the time to explain clearly. Sometimes disabilities are invisible, like deafness, blindness, etc. BE KIND! Show grace. My word. Wow in these crazy times we find both good and bad people. My kitchen sink blew out as soon as the restaurants closed so we went to Home Depot and decided to buy some lights too. Took an Uber back to the condo where the driver told us the trunk was empty and split with one of the expensive lights we just bought! After trying everything to get it back we went back to Home Depot to get another one ( another $40. in Uber). We told our story to the guy at the door inside Home Depot, he looked at the receipt and said in these stressful times we have to take care of each other and gave us the light we lost! I couldn't believe it! Thank you Cory, what an awesome thing to do! So we went and bought another one for the other room. Great job! read more

THANK YOU Julie in customer service. She helped me get the flooring for a project after I had been in a few times to pick it up. Each time I came in it hadn't been picked for some reason. I showed just a sigh of frustration and right away she jumped in to help. Her emotional intelligence and knowledge of store departments helped smooth things over quickly. She took the time to pick the items herself in the flooring department and organized labor to assist me to my car. She even opened a box to double check it was the correct color. I'm delighted with her attitude, attention, and care. I know it is tough to find someone with the perfect blend of emotional intelligence, professionalism, and efficiency for customer service but Julie is the perfect example. Ugh when will the series of hurricanes, cyclones, and tropical depressions going to stop veering in the direction of Hawaii? Seriously, every time one does, its record breaking hot and it blocks our trade winds! We just renovated our home and having AC installed was a must, so off to home depot we went to check out units. Home Depot always has the best deals and this Home Depot has been a go to, for months during our renovation. I did not know that this was a vortex that sucked up a lot of your time on a weekly basis. One of our visits was 5 hours long, going over products and materials with our contractors. We did a full gut and renovation of every room in our home so we spent time getting quite the education from EVERY department. I felt as though I could go onto one of those HGTV renovation shows and flip a house myself! Everyone was so helpful and didn't make us feel like an idiots by patiently answering all of our questions and took LOTS of time to find us inventory on those scary ladders. Much props to their training programs, it's working because the employees here know of what they are talking about and all seem to have done the work they speak of on their own homes. We have to give a shout out to Richard in the tile section. We picked his brain multiple times about our kitchen and bathroom tiles. One of our contractors was also giving us a hard time about changing the bathroom tile designs we wanted and dimensions and Richard said something so perfect "You have to love your renovation. Love over time becomes like, like becomes hate. If you only like it now, you will eventually hate it, so you have to hit the highest possible love it in the beginning." That was all my fiancé needed to hear to make our contractor stop his hissy fit. We did the will call thing a bunch of times, and on our first major will call order for a contractor, home depot didn't have it ready. To make up for it they delivered all materials to our home immediately, which I am sure my contractor was happy about because the boxes of tile we purchased were like 50 lbs each and he didn't have to carry them. Customer service recovery here is quick. I love their kids workshops we saw on our numerous trips here. It's a great free community event they do in their parking garage (I think monthly) to introduce kids, 5-12 to their own do it yourself craft projects. My fiancé and I joked that if we have kids we should make each one do a different trade, there is serious money to be had here (we could start a business lol) and it's helpful having an electrician or plumber in the family! If you're not in the trades or construction home depot has really practical Do It Yourself workshops. The fiancé and I signed up for a bunch of classes (these are free!) in October, so I'll update to let you know of how they are, but it's nice to know and be able to do minor stuff yourself and not have to call in handy man for $200 per hour! A lot of people think that Home Depot is just a place to pick up appliances, construction and building supplies, but it's a wealth of free renovation and home project knowledge to help you brain storm ideas and fix problems. I noticed as I was walking my dogs...a man painting his house. It was an older, yet stylish home and he was using a ten rung ladder to get to the second story windows. I stopped my dogs, and watched as he carefully ascended and descended the ladder removing screens, cleaning, taping and doing the usual things before getting ready to paint. It occurred to me, the care and precision he took, he was obviously a slightly older man, and was being careful with his chore as well as his body. I continued to watch as he climbed up and down, taking his own time to admire his craft, he seemed to not notice me as I gawked, admiring his handy work. Sometimes his ladder would shimmy and shake as he climbed to the top step, I wanted to lurch forward to help, in fear of his falling, but each time I made a step...he righted himself and continued his labor. After sometime, he stopped, climbed down, wiped his hands on a pocket towel, and let out a sigh of relief. "Things of this nature are best left to the daring, the young"...I could almost hear him whisper to himself. I heeled my dogs and continued on my course...but not without a final glance backward...and I realized...that the man painting his house was...me. Home Depot carries a wide variety of paints, supplies and equipment...anything necessary to get the job done. Also, they carry a large assortment of cleaning supplies... Our beautiful Hawaiian weather and environment can be damaging to one's house because of salt air spray, high humidity, street asphalt dust, breezes and sun. So, at least once a year, we go through our home sprucing up wherever it's needed. Call it Spring Cleaning, Feng Shui or flat out homeowners' pride but our cleaning goes from roof to garage. It almost seems as if we're moving out to some but, over the years, our neighbors have gotten used to seeing us garbed in work boots, gloves, overalls and sometimes safety googles with respirators. We've been teased about looking like we belong on a HAZMAT Team, too. While in our cleanup mode, we often head to Home Depot (and some other local home improvement stores) in search of materials that make our home sparkling yet welcoming. For those minor repairs, we've relied on the friendly and knowledgeable folks at this home improvement store. My husband is more of a perfectionist than I and at least has the skills to perform most home repairs himself. Maybe it's a "guy thing" but, he can spend hours in this store even if he knows what he needs. For me, I'd rather ask the friendly folks for help with product(s) and installation then leave. Customer service at this Home Depot is easy going, friendly and knowledgeable. If a product isn't available, they'll help to find a comparable one, call for another location's inventory or special order it for you. The prices are pretty good as they're a one-stop shop. They've got a huge parking lot right in front of the store that makes it easy for you if you've made a bulky purchase and need to load it into your vehicle. We recently brought in a handyman to complete a couple of projects that my husband didn't have the tools for. From lumber to paint to caulk and glass, even he relied on Home Depot. P.S. The quality of their home improvement supplies is on par with most home improvement professionals. It's too bad The Home Depot closed their Designer Home Improvement stores, EXPO. read more
