This has been our "go-to" place for lobster / seafood dinner in Menemsha over the years. I want to break this up into the good versus bad based upon my latest experiences. Good: a friendly 14 year old was dealing with traffic and quickly guided us into a parking spot in the lot. We were seated quickly as we had a dinner reservation. The warm bread was awesome. Appetizers came out pretty quickly and the highlights were the New England clam chowder, fried oysters, and a dozen raw oysters. The server was very nice and efficient. The main course hits were the lobster and the scallops. The cod fillet, Caesar salad, and crab cakes were good, not great. Bad: the entrees took a LONG time to arrive. From the time we sat down, it took an hour and 15 minutes for the main course to arrive. I think they may have waited for the raw oysters, which seemed a bit delayed and were brought after we had finished the other appetizers, to fire the main courses. Granted, they were pretty busy and there was a large table with about 10 people beside us. Also, the chicken on the Caesar salad was not good at all. Overall, I was pleased with the dinner. It was pretty pricey in that it averaged around $70 per person and that did not include alcohol. I would come here again, but am prepared for things to take a while. I don't know what happened to this place. I've been coming to the Homeport for 20 years plus, and they have changed the clam chowder and pies to the point they are the worst each I've ever had. The clam chowder was terrible. It's not even New England clam chowder. It had bacon in it, and the flavor just wasn't good. I went there for the key lime pie every summer, and this summer it was a completely different recipe as well. It was by far the worst key lime pie I've ever had, and I try key lime pie everywhere I go. I'd rather have frozen key lime pie or frozen clam chowder from stop & shop than from this place again. For how much they charge and for what is expected at a restaurant like this, I had to leave a rare review. Don't go there... So many other great choices on the island. read more

If i could write this review with no stars it would be more accurate. The service was good The food disgusting. My lobster potpie had minimal lobster and was loaded with frozen vegetables topped by a burned crust. The rest of of our meal was equally bad with noticeably smaller dinner portions. We could have had several delicious meals for $200. This used to be a great restaurant which we would visit several times a season. Never again!!! read more

Have been coming here for 10 years and I have to say this year is the best yet. The food is expensive but high quality. The whole-belly fried clams are not too heavy, and very flavorful. The tuna tartare is fresh and beautifully prepared. I highly recommend the lobster clam bake. The service was extremely friendly and prompt even at the peak hour (sunset time), and our server was on top of a nut allergy in our party. The new chef, Michael, is doing a great job and the restaurant seems to be under better management than it has been in the past. 10/10 would recommend. read more

On the ride home, and my cousin encouraged me to get on Yelp right away to write this review. And so, here it is... Awful. I've been to this same restaurant 3 consecutive summers. This year was a complete disappointment not only to the the meals I remember but just a terrible dining experience. Yes. I read the most recent reviews on Yelp before going to The restaurant ... I should have heeded the advice. A few quotes from my table... "my lobster is sour and mushy" "the bacon was the best part of my lobster Cobb salad" "I've had better clams at Legal Seafood's in New Jersey" "is this really tartar sauce? looks like blue cheese and capers" Last year, I had an incredible Lobster Pot Pie. Under the direction of a new cooking staff (as our waitress explained) the menu has been revamped. The place is obviously going downhill. It's sad. read more

Where "Le Bernadin" Pricing meets Abdows Big Boy. Upon arrival we had 7:30 reservations the Maitre' de/hostess/waitress was franticly running about to greet-us, confirm reservations, clean the table, seat-us and take our order. That was the first red flag..poor management and delegation of roles. Service ....The drink order was easy since I brought a magnum Champaign for my Fiances B-DAY dinner and required nothing but two glasses and pouring...She did great! And was a great waitress throughout. The LAY-OUT....Typical touristy seafood place, all old and worn furniture, casual, very kid friendly and very loud all you could hear were dishes clanging from cleaning staff, kids and under current of loud talking hence the Abdows Big Boy feel. The MENU ironically no prices are published anywhere on-line other than their take-out and now I see why. Apps are @$15-18 a plate entrees @$30-40 dollars a plate. The stuffed 1 1/4lb lobster was 30 dollars the 2 1/2lb lobster was 70!!! Hence their Le Bernadin pricing model. Funny enough earlier in the day Stop and Shop had them for 4.99 a pound and cooks them for free...I guess the premium they charge is for all that amazing ambience. Food...Now with pricing like this I expect to have "great" food isn't that why they command these kind of prices? NO...The "Haddock special" my Fiance ordered was a 8oz filet way over cooked and came drenched in a plate of about 6 oz of melted butter (ohhhh that was only 29 dollars when I got the bill) My Daughters..chicken fingers and fries only 18 dollars...My steamed mussles were the same 18 dollars. The fries and fish all cooked in the same oil you can taste that!. I can't even remember what I had it was so forgettable but what wasn't, was the bill for this place and what I got for it. I lived in NYC for 20 years and now in Greenwich Ct and I happily pay a premium for good food and have for many years, but not when it's half-assed. On the way out the owner/manager was busy ringing the till no obligatory "how was the service" or "thank you come again" etc. I give you 2 stars only because of the BYOB policy and the location/sunset views..otherwise Id encourage people to dine elsewhere. read more

We did not order $58 3 course dinner but fried calamari($13), corn on the cob, Linguine with Clam($21), and fisherman's platter($36) for two of us yesterday. The calamari, on a smaller portion for the island standard, they were fresh meat but all their fry dises were cooked just disappointingly in a strangely poor batter. The brown color and thick oil smell were a sign of unfiltered, never replaced oil, I had gotten half way sick eating the dinner. However its sauce was homemade kind and tasty.So was Tar Tar sauce. Linguine, the noodles, and clams were properly cooked but the white sauce, that should pull all the ingredients together was nothing but a plain butter or a poured in churned milk , not even with a hint of lemon, wine or salt. No flavor but a raw dairy smell. I took it as a great insult from the kitchen. But, our waitress did not show up until we finished the dinner. The fisherman's platter came with very salty double fried chips-extremely salty, and coleslaw. The fried fish stuff were two shrimps, and two scallops, and a medium size fish patty, The crust was dark brown, and fried so hard, but the inside was still medium-raw. Again, the hot brown unfiltered oil with strong smell, again with the weird batter. But my partner seems to enjoy it, but he also mentioned that he would never come here again for the price and the poor quality food. In fact, I would never eat their food even if it is given for free. The sunset was still great in mid-August evening, but the food we had kept us upset and silent throughout our dinner. But the waitress never came to check how we were doing, and, because I ate up the tiny handful of the pasta, she didn't quite take my comments. And, I clearly stated that the ambiance and waiting service is separately good but the kitchen is sub par. And, I asked her to make sure the kitchen should know what I said. I am sure I will never recommend this place to anyone I know. This place is the second worst on the island as in the "restaurant" category, that we will avoid at all times. I am a stunned to read some of the recent reviews below and happy to say I haven't had the same experience. I have been coming to Menemsha for the past 15 years, and lived in Chilmark for a couple as well. The Homeport is one of my favorite places to eat and still is! (I usually use the takeout window). I was there 2 weeks ago, we ordered chowder, Lobster and fries, it was delicious! prices have gone up, but I'm willing to pay if the meal was worth it...Keep up the good work and we'll keep coming back. OK, you know you are going to pay more on MV, but $40 for fried seafood? Yeah, it does come with an appetizer, salad, bread and dessert, but I'm still hung up on $40 for fried scallops. Yeah, the food was incredibly fresh, but it should be on island in the Atlantic. As an FYI - Chilmark/Menemsha is BYOB. If you want to eat at a true restaurant while you catch an awesome sunset, this is your only bet in the area. But still, $40 for fried seafood? Had I known better (or just walked a little further) we'd have grabbed food to go at The Bite just down the road (the definition of a seafood shack) and hit the beach for sunset. read more

There is a good reason you can always find a seat at The Home Port. The food is pretty bad. Actually the mac & cheese was great. They burnt the fried clams into charred wreckage. The service was inexperienced young people, nice but clueless. It's a tired old building some charm but I'd replace the chef before I did anything else. Too bad. BEWARE: This is not the same Homeport as in the past. After being closed for a couple years it's now open under new management this June. Don't pay attention to reviews before June 2022. You will spend the best part of $100 each for a forced fixed price menu at $75 / person, plus tip, and taxes. They do not serve alcohol but you can bring your own. When you arrive you will be given a paper menu with a very limited choice of appetizer, entrée, and dessert that you will be asked to check the boxes next to what you want. Our total time to order and eat with the terrible service was 2 hours. We even waited over 20 minutes for dessert that they said would be right out after waiting 30 minutes after eating our entrée. Don't bother ordering the clam chowder since it is mostly thin broth. The clam linguine entrée had the same broth as the chowder and only 6 small clams. This is by far the worst meal I ate in the Vineyard. I enjoyed the old Homeport Restaurant and hope the new management makes some quick needed changes before customer don't bother coming back. There are much better choices to dine on the inland where the service is better and you can order as much or as little as you want for a lesser price than the Homeport. It pains me to say I won't be back. read more

Have summered here for 30 years and the Home Port was always a favorite, oftentimes dozens of times a season, with family and friends. When ownership changed we tried it several times however we were always disappointed. Two years ago when we went at the beginning of the season, mahi mahi was on the menu but swordfish was not. As everyone knows Menemsha is Synonymous with Swordfish. We never returned until I read the review from d.t. who remember the Home Port over the years, plus the ads touting a new menu, new chef, and new Manager. We made a reservation for 6 of us and went with great anticipation. Unfortunately five of us said we would never return and one of us who ordered swordfish enjoyed their meal. My wife ordered fried clams (a new menu item). Maybe about 12-15 clams on the plate which is a small portion but acceptable. There was however two clumps of about 4 clams that were coated improperly and all stuck together in a gooey mass. My wife was able to eat about 6 clams. One of us ordered a lobster roll and although it was fresh and tasted fine it was all kind of mushy body meat, and contained no claw or tail pieces. I ordered the lazy man lobster which is listed on the menu as containing the meat of a 1.5 pound lobster. Oddly enough there was not one single piece of tail meat. I expected 2 claws, 2 knuckles, and a tail. I presume that they meant the dish contained the ounce equivalent, however if that's the case it should have said that. I wonder what they do with the Lobster tails? Both the clams and lobster was served with a tablespoon of cole slaw. Service was fast and pleasant, the restaurant was about half full at 7:30 on a Friday night, which is truly a shame. I tend to judge management based upon the service, the training of the staff, visibility, and the little things.... such as being poured warm water without any ice on a 90 degree evening . We will not return and I truly feel badly that the new owners still don't get the fact that people go there for local fresh seafood, cooked properly. read more

Decade after decade, the Home Port hewed to its aging formula: all-inclusive Shore Dinners, starting with something like a fruit cup or cranberry juice cocktail, proceeding through gummy little loaves of bread brought out piping hot, a Lobster Presentation or a tasteless filet mignon, and concluding with a pie whose crust had to be sawn with a knife. In retrospect, it sounds retro-chic. In reality, it was just tired. The green sign remains. Under new ownership, however, the Home Port has tried to update the classics -- largely without success. I've eaten only out the Back Door in recent years. Dill and lettuce mar the lobster roll, and the too-thick brioche bun, the siren song of upmarket menu-makers up and down the New England coast, has nothing on the classic Pepperidge Farm. In a special sandwich, spice rub and red onion drowned out the swordfish; it might as well have been catfish for all the respect paid to the fish. The chowder is a bit thin, with various herbs designed to suggest something more than clam-shack library paste. Steamers are more or less unruinable, and they didn't ruin them. Whether inside or out, the view over Menemsha Pond and out across the channel to Lobsterville is glorious; although it can be bright outside by day and buggy as dusk approaches, the Home Port offers the nicest atmosphere in Menemsha and, if you know what you're in for, you can certainly emerge happy. read more

I cannot imagine a more beautiful spot to enjoy a lobster roll. I have a pretty severe wheat allergy and brought my own bread. The staff was very friendly. They were happy to toast and serve the lobster on the gluten-free bread. My husband is vegetarian and enjoyed their veggie burger and fries. read more

Since under new management the service has been utterly slow and the food has also suffered. I had the baked stuffed lobster (48 dollar plate), the claws on the lobster were under cooked and there wasn't enough lobster in the actual dish it self not to mention that it had to much celery in the stuffing. The best part of this dish was the decorative potato. I find my self questioning if I'm ever going to return here again. I'd rather walk down the street to "The Bite" and have better quality food at an eighth of the price. Enough said! read more

Ugh, does it pain me to write this review. We have always enjoyed going to the take out window, standing in line, and sitting on the deck to wait for our order to come out. The food continues to be fantastic, but everything else has taken a turn for the worse. We were greeted with a closed takeout door and instead invited to "order takeout online" for faster service because they've moved away from the ol' reliable alternative to sitting inside. Record scratch! Huh?!?!? With little cell service, the restaurant had to share their WiFi password so I can order our for our group on their website instead of human to human contact. Once I finished the order, I got a text and email that it was submitted and the wait would be 40-60 minutes. 30 minutes later, no text but an email appeared that my order was in the kitchen and it would only be 40-60 minutes. So 70-90 total. Say what? The table next to us had the same issues. After 45 minutes I walked in and kindly asked the front desk about my order. She said it was being bagged. Hooray. But then no text or email and since they've eschewed human contact, we were left to bothering the front desk about our order again and again. Finally they found it waiting for us 15 minutes later at, wait for it, THE TAKEOUT WINDOW! No one told us to pick it up there so the food was luke warm. It wasn't in the text, or the emails or the website. C'mon Home Port! You know people come to you out of tradition. Why go and spoil it and then do such a crappy job informing loyal customers like myself about the new system. Even if it's a crappy system! Please shift back. Everyone around us at the deck tables were complaining. We eat outside (and early these days) because the view is spectacular and kids go to bed early. Don't overcomplicate what is such a great thing. If this is on management, pivot, if it's on Ownership, I pray for Home Port's survival but it's not looking good. Perspective-wise, I recognize that I'm complaining about a storied seafood restaurant not having their sh*t together in a beautiful seaside town on a beautiful island. I get it. But, we keep coming back to MV for these experiences and it's disappointing when things change for the worse. read more

Sitting here waiting for the check so I decided to leave a quick review... First the only reason I'm giving this restaurant three stars is because the staff I dealt with were awesome! They were so nice and very accommodating. I ordered the fish tacos which only consisted of two tacos and a ton of fries. The taco itself was just cole slaw, the smallest piece of fish, and some chipotle type of sauce. I've had better in PA. My son ordered crab claws from the raw bar and they were frozen and watery. My hubby ordered the blue fish special and he said it was great. And my younger son ordered chicken fingers which I thought were the best looking thing on the table. read more

Cruising through the Vineyard for an over night visit, we gravitated toward the aptly named Home Port, which has been my "Any Port in a Storm" restaurant for the past decade and a half. I usually shout my order into the take out window outside the kitchen, then harvest the succulent lobster, cool cole slaw, and corn on the cob and hustle over to the outdoor tables on the patio while there are any left. Always open, always consistent, reasonably priced for the Vineyard, and a convivial atmosphere with lots of people watching and nature watching thrown in, this restaurant is like eating in your own back yard. This visit, I had the pleasure of dining indoors, and tried the baked lobster, topped with bread crumbs and grilled, along with a dozen Oysters Rockefeller. Home made ice cream finished us off. We BYOBed with a nice dry white and a rich red, and savored the eats while watching the famous and well produced Menemsha sun sink into the west, an anomoly on the East Coast. All in all, a rich cultural experience along with a good meal. read more

Make note that Menemsha is a dry town, we'd just biked from Oak Bluffs and I was absent-mindedly looking forward to a drink and had to be reminded of that again. The oysters were as fresh as can be - definitely start with them. The brioche used in the lobster roll was one of the tastiest ones I've had though I'd prefer a larger portion (keep in mind I'd just biked almost 27 miles). We were sitting in the bar and got into a chat with locals and had a great time. If you're here for dinner make sure to walk over to the beach to see the "Key Westesque" sunset. read more

I'm a fan of any restaurant that Johnny Graham, formerly of the Red Cat and Johnny's Fine Carryout, is a part of. Summer 2009 is a new beginning for the Homeport. The beloved restaurant, popular with sunset seekers, has a new owner and a new kick in the kitchen. Johnny Graham is bringing his skills to benefit all the hungry peeps that wander into this tried and true seafood restaurant. Though the Homeport is mostly a dinner destination, expect a little spin on the menu for Sunday brunches. Johnny will be bringing back his famous grilled salmon clubs with bacon and arugula, delicious lobster rolls and seared tuna sandwiches. Menemsha is an awesome place to spend a late afternoon/ evening. Get some soft serve ice cream with the kids or bring a bottle of wine and watch the sunset. Top it off with a couple of twin lobsters at the Homeport and you'll be thanking your lucky stars for another beautiful on the Vineyard. BTW, this is a BYOB restaurant. Came here for dinner around 6pm, and we easily got a big table for 9 people without wait. Food: - Fish tacos - tasted pretty good, but was a little soggy; portion was big enough but after not eating much for lunch, it wasn't that filling - Oysters - amazing and fresh; there is a guy outside who serves them so it really gave off that local feel and that fresh, authentic taste - Blueberry pie - a friend had it and didn't like it as much - Lobster sandwich/roll - they were really skimpy with the amount of lobster meat they put on the sandwich/roll; the lettuce also looked a little skimpy - the meat to bread ratio was definitely off - Clam chowder - probably the best part - would completely recommend! It tasted fresh and was served hot. Serving size was good and well-portioned too, and it comes with the free oyster crackers Service: - The servers were younger some of them, and it seemed a little hectic as they were walking around shouting the table numbers - Overall friendly, but it felt like more of a self-serve, especially cause we were missing forks/napkins/etc. and had to go back to constantly get stuff Ambiance: - Right by the water - really nice view of the water and there is an ice cream place nearby that was pretty good - Sitting outside was not that cold - they have plenty of tables both outside and inside! I would recommend coming to this area to just take in the sunset and local beauty for this part of the island. If your coming here to eat... then be prepared to overpay and wait over an hour to get your mediocre at best meal. We ordered clam chowders which if you like them thin and watery will be right up your alley. Lobster rolls were average but the fish and chips were almost uneatable with a small over cooked piece of fish on cold stale fries. (The sodas were flat too) Anyway if I was to do it agin, I would eat someplace else, bring a bottle of wine and watch the sunset on the beach. read more

We've been here several times it the past and loved it. Today's experience is not the same as previous experiences. 1) Prices are way too high 2) Service was very slow. Took an hour to get 3 chicken sandwiches and 2 burgers. 3) Food was not properly cooked. Ordered 1 med and 1 med rare hamburgers and received 2 med rare hamburgers. At 6.45 pm the floors were filthy, the tables sticky. The food was bland and unsalted with the exception of the fries which were over salted. fish and chips were more batter than fish. We purposely stuck to the basics as we were staying nearby, were tired and hungry and chose to take a chance regardless of the poor reviews. SERIOUSLY HINDERED LAST VACATION NIGHT WITH FAMILY. DO NOT EAT HERE IF YOU WANT TO NOT BE PISSED OFF WHILE ENJOYING YOUR VACATION. I have never left a Yelp review, but this was so bad that I have to. This is the worst service that I've ever experienced in a restaurant. Our server was completely incompetent. Our 12 oysters took 45 minutes and our food never came. After an hour they had not even put it in, while later arrivees were well through their meals. We had to wave down our server just to get any update, and they were all incompetent and did nothing. The manager did nothing. All the staff were good looking but apparently completely incompetent. Apparently the food is good but I didn't get to try it. We almost missed the 8:30 sunset with a 6:45 reservation, and didn't get any of our food except 12 oysters. I really grew to want my salmon, too. It was long awaited and never came. This review is for the Back Deck, their take-out lunchtime operation. Skip this place: it took a really long time for us to get our food (definitely wasn't very busy, and our meal wasn't exactly time-consuming to make), and the food we got was really not good and overpriced to boot. The (very small, $6.50) stuffed quohog was inedible; it was so tough it broke the plastic fork, and the pieces we managed to chisle off were ridiculously dry and flavorless. At least my lobster roll wasn't terribly expensive at $18, and was a large toasted buttery brioche bun containing a good amount of very-lightly-mayoed lobster meat wiht a sprinkle of herbs, without any gross celery. Unfortunately, I had some shell in my meat, which kind of ruined the otherwise pretty solid roll for me. The boy's burger was equally as meh for him (and was also not worth $11). On the plus side, the $2 side of rosemary lemon fries we got were a great value (so many for $2!), tasty, fresh, and likely hand-cut based on the left-on skins. And the view from the picnic tables was nice (although there weren't enough umbrellas out there, so we had to get out our own in order to have any shade). They forgot our salad dressing, gave us soggy small lobster rolls (which used to be bigger but are now small), and the clam chowder (which used to be delicious) was watery and flavorless. We couldn't even taste any clam. Very disappointed with how bad they've become and sticking to other food places now such as the Galley which is almost right next to them. read more

I would have given them only one star but the beautiful view added another. The outdoor seating was nice but the trash was overflowing and smelled awful. The shrimp cocktail was very good and the highlight of our meal, which also included a fried seafood plate with scallops, oysters, fish, and shrimp. The fried food had little flavor and the tarter sauce was just average. The service was awful and two members of our party did not recieve their food until the rest of us had already completed our meal (good thing we did not wait for them to eat!). When we asked the management inside the restaurant about the hold up they stated that they have nothing to do with the take out portion of the restaurant. The poor young man working the counter was nice but could not do anything to rectify the situation. I would skip the Home Port and hit up one of the other delicious and service orientated spots on the Vineyard. read more

So there we were, party of 9, the last seating on a busy Saturday night, I wasn't expecting much. So great when you have low expectations to get totally ambushed with a gloriously good surprise. Solid mussels, steamers, fried oysters to start and one of the absolute best halibut dishes I have ever had for the entree. The fish and chips entree was also outstanding. The halibut was a special and I think it would be foolish to not make it a fixture on the menu, rock-solid, sexy, awesome halibut! read more

Came here with my grandparents for dinner to sit in the indoor dining room. We brought a bottle of wine (as up island is BYOB, corkage fee is $8). We ordered 2 lobster clam bakes, 1 salmon, 1 lobster + filet, and a tenderloin of beef, as well as several appetisers. When all was said and done our check came to about $400. Although for 400 quid I would expect the lobster to be at least warm and not ice cold and filet to at least be cooked and not still raw. The sides served with the salmon and filets were not worth the $40 price tag (julienne veg + mash?). The waitress was very kind and very accommodating. Although I thought it was strange that she asked I check the temperature of the filet immediately after serving; she knew it would not be up to temperature and unfortunately was correct. My family has been coming to the island since the 50's, although the only generation who actually seem to entertain the idea of dinner at Homeport would be my grandparents. Aside from the wonderful view and friendly waitress I would not bother. If your one who enjoys eating freshly cooked, hot lobster pop over to Larsens Fish Market. read more

I used to really love Homeport, but now I just kinda like it. The food is still great, although the menu is different. Not much in the basic fried seafood category. Everything is $30-40 an entree. I had scallops for $36 and while they were delicious, there were only four of them. The desserts are not worth the calories or price. They take reservations which is a huge plus. Go for the sunset, forget what things cost and BYOB (corkage fee) and you will have fun. read more

Pretty long wait here sometimes. In fact so long that we were planning on just doing the take out but we actually got in to the restaurant after about 30 minutes of waiting. Had the calamari app. Very nicely done, lightly breaded, quick fried. Tasty, not chewey or too much bread. SO had blue fish and liked it, very good. I had the lazy man's lobster, it was pretty good, in fact a fair amount of lobster. Corn on the cob side was nice, grilled just right and corn was sweet. Nice harborside setting with sunset in the background. All in all a nice place worth returning to. read more

We ordered from the takeout window and ate outside. Fish and chips was terrible, esp for the price. Way too greasy and not a lot of fish inside. Oysters were good though, but tough to screw those up. read more

Homeport is one of those places that, even if you've never been to a New England town, you can pretty much imagine what it must be like. Wood, sunset view, lobster bibs, baked potatoes. Portions are large--my swordfish was the size of the plate practically--and the fish is very fresh. Clam chowder, and bluefish pate were excellent, and the lobster is great. We were in a large party celebrating a birthday, and the staff was friendly, though a little spaced out. But when we needed another bottle of wine opened (Menemsha is BYOB) they were right there. I would like to try the takeout sometime, but you have to stand next to a smelly dumpster while you wait for it. But it's still popular! read more

I should have listened to my friends who told me to stay away, but we were in the area, hungry for lunch and the place was empty (this should have been a sign) and we got a nice table by the window with a cool breeze. We were off to a good start and I told my wife not to be a pessimist (she's usually right). Cut to the chase: there was no one there at 1:30 for lunch yet we still waited way to long for our order. When it finally came out it was luke warm as if it sat for 10 minutes under a warmer. The clam chowder was thick and congealed and the muscles were the tiniest I'd ever seen. The waiter never came to check on us so we never had a chance to ask for a bowl for the shells. The island is not a foodie place so our expectations were not high but this was such a disappointment. Josh Aronie had brought this place back to its former glory but it's been a fast downhill since then. read more

This past weekend I went to the Homeport Restaurant in Menemsha - and wooo weee what a delight. We began the night off by watching the sunset down the road from the Homeport at the beach. We packed a cooler full of beverages, relaxed, and took some awesome pictures. We had made a reservation at Homeport for 8PM which was perfect timing. We waited less than 5 minutes to be seated. Luckily upon making our reservation the hostess had told us it was BYOB. Which at first seemed odd - but later we found it was brilliant! The food was amazing. Where else can you get mussels, 2 steamed lobsters, side of steamed veggies, and a full dessert for $45? No where I tell you! Of course with 4 people we spent quite a bit of money, but let me repeat I HAD 2 LOBSTERS! I wouldn't recommend the place for light eaters as you may not get your money's worth. Also, the owner came around several times to our table. She was insanely nice and even drew us a map to make sure we got home safely. A fantastic dining experience all around. I will definitely return to the Homeport. Oh, and there is parking just for restaurant patrons. No circling the block like you do in Edgartown or Vineyard Haven. read more

Menemsha on 4th of July is tough every year but Home Port should have had an inkling the holiday week was coming and added more kitchen help yet they chose not to. The take out window had two people writing up orders and giving numbers with "about 20 minutes wait". Problem was our order-taker was reassigned as waitress and left her stack of orders in Neverland. 20 minutes became 40 minutes and so on and so forth until our order (and those around us) arrived 90 minutes later with great fanfare, a round of free soda. No one in their right mind would go to Home Port on a holiday to eat. It's about people / celebrity & sunset watching. This night the restaurant was complety dysfunctional. read more
