I loved the pizza, atmosphere, location and our server so I'm going to give this place a 4, but it was not without it's issues. Parking around Homeslice looked difficult so we parked down the street and walked. It was a 45 minute wait (yikes!) and having never been there before I think the hostess could have been more helpful. She told us to wait outside and they would find us later. There was no one behind us in line and we just wandered until we found the backdoor. The servers walk into you instead of around you. This made walking through to get outside or walking to the restroom incredibly difficult. Oh and that restroom. It's in the most inconvenient place. It's pretty impossible to open the door to leave especially considering the servers don't move for anyone. Lastly, I had to sit next to a group of 7 that were all singing top of their lungs. My husband and I were at a candlelit table in a corner, which was super romantic and until the children masquerading as adults were sat next to us. I'll start by saying that this is my favorite pizza that I have tried in Austin so far, and I'm not alone in thinking that. If I had to pick a favorite it would be the margherita. Their tiramisu is tasty too! I've come here many times before, but my most recent visit prompted me to finally write a review. It was the weekend before my 21st birthday and my friends and I decided to go grab pizza at Home Slice since they had never been. After telling our fantastic server, Mark, that it was my birthday, he told us we had to do crazy things in order for me I get my birthday dessert. After dancing on the table for a (very long) minute and a half, he came back and gave us high fives for actually going through with it. I first herd of home slice from the indie movie Chef a few months ago and I knew I had to visit when I came to Austin! And here I am writing a review! I originally went into the restaurant side but the wait was Soo long fI just wanted to try a slice. I was directed next door to the pizza window when I met the lovely LAUREN! She's such a sweet heart she advised what we had to do in Austin in our limited time (4 hours) there. As far as the food, I am a big pizza fanatic. I've had pizza from Ny, Miami, Orlando, Utah, Canada, and all over California. Home slice pizza is newyork style pizza with a crunch, which I really enjoyed! Pizza from New York is thin and flimsy, I loved that home slice was crispy! The garlic knot is overrated I could of gone for another slice of pizza instead. I have to say that the pizza is mighty delicious! The crust is crispy and flavorful, and the pizza itself is to die for. I would be down to wait a whole hour again for this pizza all over again! We came here twice in 2 days for lunch- it's that good. Thin crispy but chewy crust, if you like New York style pizza you have to come here. Tips for tourists: -South Congress is all backwards angle parking and there's not a lot. -Home Slice has 2 places right next to each other. There's not a lot of seating in either one and even less outside. The 4 of us were able to find a spot to sit while our name was called and we just ate it there. -there's a few take out parking spots that limit you to 15 mins if you want to grab a slice and then roll around and eat because It's too good to wait for. read more

Came here on my last trip to Austin for a quick snack. It was pretty crowded inside, especially because people were trying to escape the ridiculously cold weekend weather! However, we were seated within about 5-10 minutes. The restaurant is pretty dim inside but it makes it cozy. Our waiter was very friendly and we quickly ordered single slices. I ordered the Margherita slice. It was pretty thin and not too greasy, just how I like it! It was very fresh and warm. They also have the option of ordering a single slice "pizza of the day" which that day, was Pepperoni and Mushroom, which the person I was with ordered and enjoyed! I have always had excellent service when coming here and plan to keep making it a spot a always stop by when I make it to Austin. read more

I couldn't be more pleased with this place. I've been going here since it opened. I made quick friends with most of wait staff and it stayed that way for a while now. Pizza is large portioned NY style. Some will disagree out of spite and a certain pining for their old stomping grounds, but this is Austin. Not too many topping choices compared to Austin's Pizza and the like, but these pies are meant to pack a max of three toppings, anyways. I can never get enough of their Italian Assorted Sub. They FedEx their bread in from a bakery in Upstate NY. I went there one time when the delivery wasn't made and I knew upon the first bite. They don't sell slices between 6:30-9:30pm so don't be a big a baby and wine. order a medium and take the rest home. You'll be glad you did. There is usually a 20 min wait when you go at dinner so order a pitcher and sit out back. I know of no better south side place for NY style pies and amazing subs that can't beat this.
