After our party completed the Texas State Capitol Tour, we stopped by South Congress (aka "SoCo" - the neighborhood felt just like West Hollywood) in a quest to fulfill one of my friend's other requests - getting a slice of New York-style pizza at Home Slice Pizza. Parking: It is REALLY hard to find parking in this area and I had no choice but to pay $8 (1-hour for $8.00 & 2-hour for $10.00) at the parking structure behind Hopdoddy Burger Bar. Later I asked our waitress on where to park and she mentioned that there are free 35 parking spots for Home Slice Pizza behind the Church On Congress Avenue (just a street away from the restaurant) and the church parking entrance is located on Elizabeth St (near the intersection of S Congress St & Elizabeth St.) Home Slice Pizza is a dine-in pizzeria while More Home Slice is a takeout/slice place located right next to the dine-in pizzeria. The dine-in pizzeria only serves slices until 6:30 PM and from 9:30 PM til close. There are only four options for pizza slices - Cheese, Pepperoni, Margherita, and Special Slice. Since the day was hot and humid, our party chose the dine-in option with cool A/C. Service was excellent because our waitress re-filled my friend's beer without any charge after my friend accidentally spilled his alcohol drink as he tried to swat a fly. Our waitress also offered additional garlic powder that I was able to add on my pizza! *** Margherita (fresh mozzarella, diced Roma tomatoes, extra virgin olive oil, garlic & basil - $4.25): Crispy crust, super cheesy, and good tomato sauce! Comparing with Margherita pizza I had from other places, Margherita here wasn't soaked in olive oil. My friend grew up in Austin and said this was a must-try. I had a short trip in town so selecting my meals was difficult. I trusted her. You can go up to the window for pizzas by the slice. We wanted to sit down so opted for a whole pizza (for two people). We ordered a medium sized eggplant pie. To be honest, I was skeptical. I love a NY-slice as well as eggplant parm. We had gotten More Home Slice Pizza (to go stand not the restaurant) a couple days earlier and were a little disappointed when we couldn't order the White Clam Pizza there. We knew we had to try the actual restaurant, so we came back to see if the clam pizza was up to the hype! We arrived around 7pm on a Monday night and were seated immediately. We got a Medium White Clam Pizza and waited about 20 minutes. When it arrived, we happily dug in! It was very delicious and garlicky, just how I liked it. But I will say that some of the clams weren't cleaned very well and there were still bits of sand mixed in :( What a shame because if the clams were cleaned well, I certainly would've given 5 starts to this yummy, filling pizza. read more

We ordered a family-style house salad and a medium-sized pizza that served 3 hungry people (and we left with plenty leftovers). First of all, the house salad was fresh and delicious. Much better than the average pizza parlor salad! We ordered the #6 pizza which came loaded with sausage, ricotta, and roasted red peppers. This pizza was outstanding, from the perfectly-crafted crust to just the right amount of sauce and toppings. This pizza was so good that I just assume the owners are from NYC, but who knows?! Ultimately, this is just a fun restaurant -- loved the groovy music and laid back vibe. The service was also top-notch and efficient. I debated even writing a review because nearly 3,500 people have spoken highly about Home Slice. However, my experience here was so stellar that I wanted to review. I come here all the time to get pizza, this time I came to the sit down restaurant next door Sunday 9/24/23. It was 5 of us and it was not too busy in there. We were waiting by the front door for the hostess to sit us down. Mind you it's extremely hot outside or else we would have waited outside. The hostess were just rude no smile, nothing. They kept saying "excuse me" and pushing us while they were cleaning a table literally by the door, when we were clearly not in their way. Even if we were there's a nice way to say that instead of ugly remarks and pushing. Then when a table opened up I heard one hostess tell the other one "can you get these damn ppl out the way and seat them down" it was so ugly and disgusting. From my college days til now, Home Slice has been one of my favorite pizza places in Austin. Whether you're ordering full pies or ordering by the slice at the window, I've never been disappointed. My go-to order, which I guess they have by my phone number in their system because whenever I call they ask if I want the same, is a half white clam half margherita pizza. I'm not sure of anywhere else that does the white clam like they do. Half lemon wedges are provides and when squeezed over the whole pie, it elevates it even more. The pies at the window vary, but usually you'll be able to find the spinach white pie or some form of sausage or mushroom which are some of my favorite toppings on pizza too. I've made a lot of pizza at home but I can never quite get my crust to be like theirs, I guess I just need to keep tweaking my dough recipe. With the 2nd location closer to me up north, I don't frequent this one as much. Parking can be a pain on SoCo, but well worth stopping by! read more

Worth the hype yall! I had just finished getting my hair diddd up at Red Stella salon - highly recommend but anyways...this pizza is truly NY style. It's very thin with an ideal crisp undercarriage! The slice was more than enough for me, and I didn't feel gross after as it seems this place is super fresh. Everyone talks about it and I'm glad u finally went. The interior is sexual with red lined chairs and somewhat dim but lively atmosphere. It was very adorable. I wish I took a pic but I slammed my slice of pizza far too fast. I highly recommend the pepperoni - they def use real pepperoni as opposed to those nasty fake ones (sorry Pizza Hut). 10/10 read more

For Brooklyn-style pizza fans, this is your spot in Austin. Home Slice Pizza was a solid place for thin slices that you fold. Seems like my kind of place! We visited Home Slice Pizza in South Congress for dinner, and on a Thursday night the place was pretty busy. We were told that we'd have to wait half an hour, which we didn't mind; but fortunately, a table cleared within 10 minutes. The space is large enough, as the entire area serves as a dining area. There's not much of a bar here. But they do have alcohol, including prosecco cocktails. I ordered the F'Heck Yeah prosecco cocktail, which is a sparkling wine base with a lemon Italian ice. I do like prosecco, which mostly made up the drink; but I was surprised by how little of the lemon Italian ice came with. It was mainly why I ordered it, so most likely wouldn't get it again, since the lemon Italian ice didn't do much for it. I didn't taste much lemon flavor. Not worth the nine bucks. But the pizza was better. Since they didn't do slices when we visited (it's only served after 9:30pm), my friend and I shared a large pie, and was able to try two kinds of pizza, as long as the base is the same. Nice to know they have this option here. Half of our pizza came with pepperoni and mushroom while the other half came with sausage, ricotta and red peppers. The pizza didn't take long to get, and of the two kinds, I enjoyed the sausage, ricotta and red peppers the most. The ricotta added a nice element to it, a kind of creamy, sour flavor that complemented the saltiness from the sausage and roasted red peppers. Add some sausage for protein and you have yourself a solid good slice of pizza. I also liked that the crust was thin enough to fold, which is the quintessential characteristic of a Brooklyn-style pizza. For the two of us, a large pizza was more than enough, so ended up talking half for leftovers. I'm glad to have tried Home Slice Pizza, as Brooklyn-style pizza is my favorite kind. Located among the main business drag of South Congress, I did see there was a small parking lot and is also next to More Home Slice, a takeout only option. read more

I have wanted for many a year to try this pizza pie location! 7 years ago I moved to Austin with the wife and finally tonight we had the chance to try this spot. As we waited with a rush of excitement, why wife was thrilled to get to try the anchovy Caesar salad. She was then served a bowl of dry, unflavored unseasoned lettuce with dry croutons. Not an anchovy in site. The poor wife felt like a malnourished steed after this experience. My pizza slices were of decent size, but nothing to tell the neighbors about. I shared a slice after eating a burger across the street and I wished I just saved my appetite to get a whole pizza! Got a margherita and the crust was nice and thick with a huge crunch to it. There was a light layer of sauce which I actually like with cheese and shreds of basil. I appreciated that they did put a lot of basil instead of a couple leaves which helped elevated the whole pizza. To my surprise, I'm glad I gave Home Slice a try. Their New York style pizza is some of the best I've had in Austin and definitely worth checking out. While I waited I checked out the patio bar and relaxed around the outdoor ping pong table and abstract art. The service here was great. They gave me their recommendations and helped me decide on a pie. I went with a medium pizza, 1/2 #5 and 1/2 #6. I was impressed how quick the pizza came out. Tbh I resisted the urge to stop here numerous times, because I thought I'd be disappointed. Finally broke down and tried this past week and it was 100% worth it.
