    Caramel Espresso Martini
    Tara L.

I went to Hometown Tavern for a brunch event and had their buffet which was a little below average for me. We also ordered boneless chicken wings and parm fries and both were very good. The caramel espresso martini was an A+ though and reasonably priced! Our bartender was fabulous and kept our drinks flowing despite having a full bar.

We came for the soulful brunch event with a local psychic medium. The event included a ticket to the 'show' and a breakfast buffet. The event started at 10:30am and people waited outside for the doors to open. We were checked in and seated and were able to help ourselves to coffee set up on top of the bar. If you wanted a different drink (mimosa, soda, tea etc) you had to go to the bar in the other room and get it yourself. The buffet was set up on top of the pool table in the room and we were invited to help ourselves with the exception of the bacon and sausage, they had a staff member handing out those two items. While I didn't get a feel for the typical service, hospitality, or food from the menu at this particular event, I'm not sure I would return because it didn't feel like a very welcoming place.

Great atmosphere and food. Heather at the bar is THE BEST!!! Very friendly and attentive! I will be back!

Went for lunch. Had pizza and mozzarella sticks. Food was very good. Fresh cheese. We were a large group and they took good care of us. Place was not very busy. Eating area was very clean. Bathroom looked like they had a party last night and didn't clean it. Staff were friendly. Will come back with the family.

I must have been in a strange mood to punish myself before Christmas. Or perhaps, I was in a jolly mood to give this joint one more try. I came here a few times before. I was not impressed with the food quality. Well, I thought, enough time has passed, may be, just may be, the food has gotten better. WRONG! In some sense, it got worse. I don't understand how this place can survive with the calamari and the wings they serve. In Rhode Island, people take calamari seriously. All tasteless and need serious amount of salt and pepper. I think the pre seasoned Swansons from the frozen isle taste better... sad. One thing that is going for them. A good selection of cheap beer and cocktails. The live bands are nice also. So, come here for the cheap drinks and live entertainment, but not for dinner. What saved them from getting a 2 star rating is the prompt service.

What a good time Sunday afternoon at Hometown tavern. It was like taking a step back to the good old days... 2019! There was music, laughter, and a whole host of people having a good time. I don't know the name of the band but they were good playing a mix of blues, rock, oldies and country. We sat near the garage doors that open up to an outdoor patio. The place is spacious and they kept the seating far away from one another for proper social distancing. The food was good. The portobello burger was very tasty and very large plated. The hometown burger too was good. They both were bigger sized burgers. The hometown burger was cooked exactly how I liked it, on a fresh bun. Both came with a size side of fries and a choice of onion rings or salad. We both chose a salad. The salad was very generously sized. Fresh veggies, nice Italian dressing, and a perfect accompaniment to the late lunch. For drinks we got a couple old fashions. The price was good, the drink size was very good. Very generous with the drinks! Who doesn't like that?

We came to find this place on a snowy night. We had planned to go to another restaurant, which happened to have been closed due to the snow. We hopped around to a few different restaurants which were also closed. Luckily, we found the Hometown Tavern. They had a lot of menu options, which I appreciated, since I was hoping to get a healthish meal and you just never know when you go to a random place like that. I got the chicken spinach wrap, and my partner got the chicken Caesar wrap. We both enjoyed our meals. It was a Tuesday night, and the place was relatively empty, which was why I was surprised the service was a little slow. However, everyone was friendly. The inside was kind of like a sports bar type place. They had TVs and stuff to be able to watch the game, and on the other side of the bar, there was a place for bands to play. Overall we enjoyed our meal and our time there.

Good sports bar in the Warren/Barrington area. Came here to watch the Super Bowl. Good number of screens all around, none particularly bigger than the other. There's a bar area and then a live music area with a stage and space for dancing. Got the tavern burger which tasted pretty good. Their curly fries are delish too. Escarole soup was good though somewhat cold. Wings were Aok, too much batter. Overall decent experience, service was good. Would come back to check out their live music sometime.

    Pizza with mushrooms & bacon

I had been curious about this place for a while, since they often host some great live local bands. I headed down on a Friday evening because Neal and the Vipers were playing. Knowing the band's long-standing popularity, I arrived early in the hopes of finding a seat at the bar. As luck would have it, I procured the only empty seat. It was 90 minutes before the band was to begin. It was a friendly crowd and many of the people seating around me knew each other as well as the bartenders. I like that familiar, homey feel. The women sitting on either side of me were friendly and we quickly struck up conversations. The menu was standard pub fare with a few surprises, plus a list of daily specials. I like to stick to the specials when I can, so I decided on the Scallops wrapped in Bacon. When the people around me had their Fish & Chips delivered, I had some serious menu envy. Must return. The scallops were huge and skewered. Unfortunately, the bacon was scant, undercooked and not at all crispy. It came with fries, which were very good. Clearly a rookie mistake and I wouldn't order it again. My date arrived late and by the time he ordered, I was feeling a little hungry. We decided on a pizza with mushrooms and bacon. I had two pieces, but because I was starving, but because it was so good! The crust was thin and crispy, the cheese gooey and the toppings just right. As the night went on, the crowd thinned and more seats became available. It seems a lot of people had stopped after work for a drink or a bite, but weren't staying for the entertainment. But the dance floor was rocking. Good food, great vibe, friendly crowd and awesome music. Can't wait to return! Might try Thursday nights for country line dance lessons!!

We ordered the mini stuffies, the hummus plate, and the fried pickles. The mini stuffies were a highlight. Loaded with Mello's chouriço and packed with flavor, they're a solid little bite. My grandfather set the bar pretty high for me on stuffies, and these came close. They have a different profile than what I grew up with; a little less bready, more chouriço forward, and the clam flavor takes a back seat. Not necessarily a complaint, they were just different from what I'm used to and were genuinely tasty. The lemon aioli on top was also a nice touch. The fried pickles were exactly what you want them to be. Crispy, well fried, and the breading actually stayed put while you ate them, which is more than I can say for a lot of fried pickles. They came with the same lemon aioli as the stuffies, which worked just as well here. The hummus plate was a bit of a letdown. We've had it many times before and it used to be a standout. This time the hummus itself was thick and pretty flavorless, more like a dense chickpea paste than anything else. The accompaniments were nice though and consisted of heirloom carrots, cucumbers, olives, cherry tomatoes, asparagus, pickled cauliflower, carrot, and a pepperoncini, all served alongside some buttery round crackers that were like a Ritz cracker's more refined cousin. The veggies saved the plate, but the hummus needs to find its way back. I suppose it could have just been an off batch and won't prevent us from trying it again. Cocktails were great, as usual. I had the Anana with scotch. I love pineapple and this has muddled pineapple and basil, pineapple juice, cracked black pepper. It's my go-to here and it delivered again. My partner went adventurous and ordered the Jungle Booby, which is built around tequila blanco and mezcal with campari, pineapple, grapefruit, lime, orgeat, and an absinthe spritz. The flavors were genuinely good, but the smokiness from the mezcal was a bit much for her taste. She followed it up with a glass of rosé and had no complaints after that. The cocktail wasn't the problem, it just wasn't her style. One of our favorite spots in Warren for a quick nibble, for a good reason.

We started with a complex Black Onion Garlic dip with house-made potato chips. Straight away, this puts everyone in a good mood. Our appetizers consisted of Roasted Farm Carrots & Beets, Lamb and Beef Meatballs, and Citrus & Radicchio Salad (party of 4). All were expertly crafted, creative, and delicious. Of special note, the sauce served with the meatballs was "finger-lickin good". For entrees, we ordered White Lamb Ragu, Roasted Lamb Loin, and Nettie & Ramp Pesto Fettucini. Each dish was beautifully presented and generated a lot of excitement at the table. The roasted lamb, which was perfectly cooked medium rare, was succulent. The house-made, melt-in-your mouth pappardelle pasta served with a ragu sauce put me in the zone. For dessert, we enjoyed 2 servings of a Frangipane buckwheat tart with Almond ice cream. This unusual creation was a homerun. A 32-ounce French Press was enjoyed by all. It's not easy to produce such a meal. They have a daily menu, and I've had some friends suggest this place as their favorite restaurant. We parked blocks away due to the lack of adequate parking. Once we walked in, we were greeted with pleasant smiles from the staff. The menu was short, which we attributed to a focus on quality. We ordered a French onion dip and a littleneck entree as an app for the table. We were served with lukewarm water, neither cold nor hot. The apostle John might have been somewhat disappointed (Rev 3:16). The dip was decent but was somewhat lacking in great onion flavor. But nothing to complain about. The little necks were served in a small bowl and lacked a bit of salt. Rather pricey for $26, but this place charges $6 just for bread and butter, so maybe it's just inflation? Enter the entrees. They apparently were short on chicken legs so they asked to substitute chicken breast. Two of us got burgers. First the $20 burgers, which were served with an aioli with no offer of ketchup or other condiments. In short, both burgers were terrible. Far worse than we make at home. It's always a disappointment when you realize you're paying all this extra for food you can make better at home. The buns were shockingly flat, like someone smashed them by hand. Or in a McDonald's box. Come to think of it, the flavor was similar, though overall the hamburger was somewhat bitter, salty and lacked an appetizing flavor. Wow. We all agreed they were terrible. The fries were also burnt and over salted. My daughter quit on her $30 chicken, so I tried it. The sauce wasn't bad, and it was served with a decent brocollini. But the chicken was some of the driest I've had in a restaurant, with no crisp skin and a uniformly poor texture. No wonder no one finished their entrees. And I hate wasting food. So, as much as we would have wanted to give this place a great rating, we just won't be back. The service, although with a smile, was slow and terrible. Our candle burnt out in the middle of dinner. It was never relit. Our glasses were empty halfway through dinner. No refills on the tepid water. The entrees took an hour and a half before they came out (we were warned the chicken could take 30 min). Generally a very disappointing experience. Hard to explain the rave reviews but our Saturday dinner was a sad bust. The cold wet madeleines they provided in a doggie bag didn't do anything to help. Oh well. Hope y'all have a better experience if you go here.

They did not have many wines to choose from BTG which was disappointing. The one I had which was Cinsault was just ok. I had to dump out most of it since I did not enjoy it but that was my fault since sampling it I thought I liked it. My friend had the bartender make her a cocktail with grapefruit since they did not have pineapple. She was looking for a French martini but seemed to enjoy what they made her. My husband's espresso martini was very good I thought and light but could've used some bailey's. We already had dessert so we did not plan on anything else but I know I am interested in returning for dinner. The restaurant is very small inside but I loved the warm lights and decor. But upon tasting their food, it was clear, 'Viola' is just another Americanized Italian restaurant. We started with an a la carte order of: 'House made focaccia, roasted garlic spread, evoo, craft butter' This was fresh and tasty. We then shared the 'Caesar: traditional romaine hearts, foccaccia croutons, shaved pecorino cheese. classic caesar dressing.' This lacked any flavour, the romaine was cut into too small pieces, there was no hint of garlic or anchovy in the dressing. But the most disappointing dishes were the pasta dishes: 'Fettucini bolognese, house made, beef, pork, veal ragu, pecorino, basil, calabrian Chili.' 'Scampi viola, squid ink linguini, shrimp garlic, white wine, julienned vegetables, preserved lemon butter.' Although the pastas were freshly made, their textures were compromised; both pasta dishes were not 'al dente'. In fact the Scampi viola was drenched in a dark gravy and greasy. This is just not a very skilled preparation of pasta. A fresh pasta needs very little sauce, and should be dressed very simply so the 'textures' can be enjoyed. I ordered the: 'Zuppa di vongole: fresh little neck clams, vino biqnco, fresh herbs, crostini.' But this dish was replaced by a fried calamari dish. This was well prepared, actually the only star of the evening. This restaurant may succeed on its 'blandness' but will never attract the discerning diner who wants and appreciates authentic Italian cuisine. ~tiaotse~

Not a good look when a customer watches your drink being made with those. Staff does not wear a uniform either.. zits just odd. And we wonder why the bar is always empty! I will say, There was a decent woman in her 40's working there for a few weeks on Saturday nights . She was wonderful!, and could actually make a drink! I haven't seen her in months. I can't lie, one evening we couldn't help but watch her try to pretty much jug the entire restaurant and make everyone's drinks because the other staff were clueless. One waitress was working with a surgical boot on her foot that went all the way up to her knee! Talk about a Liability! . I haven't seen that other server there in quite some time. I could only guess that she took her experience elsewhere. She was way too overqualified to be working in that establishment. She could handle that entire restaurant by herself. . Either that, or she ran out that restaurant door because she saw how the place was run! It's unfortunate because the food is delicious. But we just can't go there anymore. It's a nightmare.
