It's bright and fun and festive and the staff is all super friendly. Even if they didn't serve a delicious breakfast, I'd still visit just sit coffee and sing along with their playlists. This was actually my second time visiting. The first time was with my husband around Valentine's Day and it was decorated so cute then, I was anxious to see the Christmas decor. It screamed Christmas with balloons and flowers and music; there was even a bear at the front in a little Christmas sweater. The staff is super attentive with coffee and water refills, your cup will be filled right away and will never be empty! Quite an amazing feat since both times I've been it has also been really busy. The menu is extensive (so bring your glasses if your old like me), and it really has something for everyone. The first time I came, I splurged on some pancakes and french toast, but this time I tried for some healthier options and they were just as satisfying. I had a veggie omelette and it was fluffy and flavorful. Also, you can pretty much get it with whatever you want. I ordered an English muffin and oatmeal (but didn't try the oatmeal, while it looked delicious). They also brought complimentary blueberry muffins to the table, which my friend said were a yummy bite. Well let's just say the HoneyBear was missing all of its honey maybe today was an off day but this was terrible!! My partners food wasn't much to talk about you could have gotten it at IHOP I know your probably saying then you should have went to IHOP I wish I had. I have waited to write a review after two separate visits to see if my experience was consistent. I realize that the cafe got very busy unexpectedly and they were not prepared for the turnout. The first time I visited I was hoping to get gluten free pancakes, since they are listed on the menu. The waitress did not realize they were on the menu. Then she told us they weren't actually available because the menu was still being rolled out. Understandable. I had a skillet instead. Unfortunately, it was pretty bad. The sausage was burnt and tasted awful. I wanted to like the food but I just wasn't impressed. Fast forward a month later I returned with a friend. Guess what? They still have gluten free pancakes on the menu but they aren't available. I find that to be very strange. Just take it off the menu then. I ordered eggs with a side of fruit and cottage cheese. The cottage cheese came out for my friend and looked normal. Mine had orange crumbs mixed into it and some yellow liquid. I was totally grossed out. The eggs did not taste right either. The service is very good. I do feel for the staff because the food is NOT matching the excellent service. I don't know if this cafe will last to be honest. I have been to Honey Bear Cafe about a handful of times. Sometimes I pick up, sometimes I dine in. On Friday, January 7, 2021, I decided to order and pick up. I used a promotion code (STAYWARM) that was emailed to me for the amount of 20% off; after using the promotion code my total came to about $24.03. I waited the allotted time and headed to the restaurant to pick up my order. Upon picking up my order , I was barely greeted by a tall, white woman with curly hair. She asked me if I was paying with cash or card; I decided to pay with my card. She grabbed my order, looked at the receipt that was attached to the bag and entered the amount that was on the receipt but she also added a 20% tip. She handed me the device so I could insert my card. I noticed that when I tapped my card the amount said $27.04 and gave me the option to add in a tip. Once she saw this prompt on the screen she proceeded to act like she was assisting me with my card, however I feel she was trying to hurry up and complete the transaction before I noticed what she had done. I inquired about why the amount was different than what I was shown when I ordered my food online, she said she didn't know why and sometimes the prices reflect differently when ordering online. However, she manually entered the amount, and the amount was clearly printed on the receipt that was attached to the bag for $24.... However after she asked the cashier to hand her three dollars to pay me back the difference that I had been charged she also removed the receipt from the bag and folded it up and put it behind the register instead of leaving it on the bad as usual. She knew that that would prove that she try to purposely charge me more by giving herself an unauthorized 20% tip on my card. Let me also add that I do not have a problem tipping but it was the way it was done. ITS AN UNETHICAL PRACTICE. Overall, my food was delicious as usual, however, I cannot say that this experience does not leave a bad taste in my mouth. Along with delicious food, I expect good customer service and to be treated fairly. CHEATING a customer even out of the smallest amount is unacceptable. Ordered delivery through Grubhub since I'd heard good things. They did not disappoint. The build your own mac & cheese was delicious, with their fried chicken on top. We added some hot sauce to give it a little kick and OH YEAH. (So there's a suggestion: Nashville chicken on the mac & cheese.) The soups we got were also amazing. One was a tomato and the other was Italian wedding maybe (?) They were part of the meal but we didn't know what we were going to get. Both were delicious. I went there with my 2 year old and myself. The staff was very rude. The place is so cramped I don't know why ppl even go there. They had me sit on a ledge that they have turned it into a seating option. They also had me sit right infront of the area where workers were bringing food over my daughter. I asked to be moved and they said they have no space and would not free a booth for me cuz it's just me and my daughter who is a "baby" not an adult. I ended up paying for my moved and packing it and leaving. Food was also mediocre. I would never go back to this establishment again. It is not For families don't get fooled by the name of the restaurant. I have lived in Rogers park all my life and rarely go out to places to eat cuz I have a baby.
