This my very favorite Chinese food in the area, and I was raised on Kim's original Chinese food. They have a super friendly staff, kind and caring with smiling faces to greet you, food made just the way you want it. Consistently amazing. The BBQ pork is the absolute best. Thick, sweet and seasoned perfect,not scrimping on size or flavor. I count it as a dessert. Even the fried rice is good,not sparse and dry like others. And the Sizzling Wor Bar is a feast on a plate. With different tasty meats & veggies. Definitely worth stopping by for take out and eating well for a couple of meals, let's face it this point, home cooking is overrated and this a much more fun way to eat your vegetables. Okay, so Grants Pass isn't known for their Chinese food, but there are a few restaurants here. Hong Kong is better than a couple of others that we've been to, but like most restaurants in this area, they are run like they're a hobby rather than a business. The wait staff, while very friendly and nice, were way too familiar with you right off the bat. It would have been nice if it were a bit cleaner, and the "coffee shop" off to the left was not appealing at all! There were stacks of stuff and it didn't seem to have any reason for being there, other than to stack stuff up on the counters. The food itself is very Americanized, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but when you come from a more metropolitan area and the choices there are way over the top, coming to GP with fewer choices and a lot less flavor palate leaves one wishing for the larger city again. However, we had a few things that weren't bad. I recommend the lemon chicken, although breaded too much, the meat wasn't dried out like one of the other places we went to recently. The fried rice was tasty, but not a headliner. It would be nice if the cook here took a few classes and learned a couple of specialty dishes that could shine. On the outside, it could use a new paint job, a bit of sprucing up; on the inside keep the friendly staff, just tone it down a bit. I love a restaurant that remembers who you are and what you like to eat...these girls did just that. We will try it again, but we'll be a little careful. read more

We went here on Christmas and got 4 things. Egg rolls were terrible. We threw them out. Pork fried rice - very plain and lacking any flavor. Just tasted like chunks of pork. Fried shrimp was ok. Mar Far chicken (white meat) was by far the best thing we got. Overall, everything is extremely fatty and lacked any balance. The food is great. Kudos to their recipes-n-chefs for that. The service is also good in the restaurant. So far so good. But their service and compassion over the phone leaves a lot to be desired. Mostly, whenever I call it seems that they would rather I not. They are a busy place because of the good food. I live across the parking lot from them and call before I walk over and pick up my order. Me? Sometimes I do call at the last minute (15 minutes before the listed closing time). I call at those moments and they tell me they are closed. Might I remind you... I live across the parking lot from them. They are open. People are still in line. I made a pick up order today they forgot my shrimp so I called and the phone was busy for a very long time. Then when I finally got got the phone to ring nobody picked up. When a person finally answered I was told that the owner does not make refunds. My dinner was over a long time ago, and I did not want the item they forgot anymore. This is literally the worst Chinese food that I have ever had. I'm pretty sure that all of the meat is straight out of the can and the tea must be from a bag that the been using for hours, the fried mushrooms are clearly frozen / microwaved, and honestly I wouldn't be surprised to find out the the low mein noodles are top ramen noodles mixed with a cup of vegetable oil. I'll start by saying I was really hesitant to try this establishment after reading the reviews. But I have found the only way to really know how good/bad a place may be is to try it. Today I did just that and I will tell you I was happily surprised. Took the folks in for lunch as a party of 4. We were seated promptly and began to negotiate the long menu. I do think they could tighten their offerings and just stick to Chinese cuisine, but I think in this small town there are some who say you gotta have options. And while we're talking about small towns, I will say my 5* rating would barely make a 4* had I been in a large metropolis where haute cuisine is more expected. To me, everything must be judged in a context. For example, hot, crappy food on the Moon would rate really high for me. So, I had the Sizzling War Bar and when it arrived I was amazed at the plate (see pic). My dad had their Lemon Chicken and it too was spectacular! Upon eating these offerings, I can tell you they were hot and fresh. Vegetables were tender yet crisp, meats were juicy and well trimmed. The sauce on the lemon chicken was sweet and lemony with a nice tartness not usually found on this entrée. So good it was I later found out it's made from scratch by mixing a batch of fresh lemons, water, vinegar, sugar and cornstarch. A nice touch, and it's just the way they make everything else, from scratch! So, looking back at all the poor reviews, I am left a bit bewildered. All I can figure is those in the know don't want this place to get crowded so they post bad reviews in hopes of keeping patrons away. I'm just glad I went on my own. read more

Took my partner here for lunch as I thought I had been there a couple of years ago when visiting Grants Pass, and remembered it being quite good. My memory is either failing, or this place has really gone downhill. We sat down and in seconds, I really wanted to just leave, but my other half wanted to try it. Mistake. The place was really dirty. We sat in the table section at the front, rather than at a booth. We both ordered the same thing....A combination plate of Sweet and Sour Chicken, Pork Fried Rice, and Chicken Chow Mein. Now for $7.95 I was not expecting a palate dazzling experience, but this was truly dreadful. Chicken was 80% breading and 20% bird. Sauce was the low end typical red goo, The deep fry smell of the chicken indicated the frying oil has been in their system way longer than it should have been. Chow mein was edible, but completely uninspired. Mostly celery and bean sprouts, with some crunch noodles underneath. Fried rice was ok, and filled with 2 centimeter sized pork pieces. Even the complimentary ice cream served at the end of the meal was damaged by being kept at several temperatures and was ice crystallized. In summation, a friendly staff was the high point. The dirty place and poor quality of cuisine was the big downer. read more

This resataurant has been around for a while, and has many older regulars to show for it. For the few times I've been, I would say that the service is consistently good. Refused to let me speak to a manager and it was hard having a conversation thru her. Paid $58 for 2 Hong Kong Dinner specials and 2 dinner portions were about the size of one serving. Very rude to state they were sure dinner was all there then say the delivery person might have forgotten part of the order then it turned to she kept it. Honestly, this is probably the worst "Chinese" food I've ever had. I wouldn't even call it Chinese food. While the servers are old and sweet, the food is disgusting. We ordered the fried crab/cream cheese wontons and there are not even words for how gross it tasted. My husband ordered a number 2 and I ordered a number 3. The sweet and sour was just too sweet and lukewarm at best. The chow mein.... don't even get me started. There were hardly any noodles, just a slop of wet, warm cabbage mixed with a few pieces of chicken. Prison food would probably be better. The fried shrimp was rubbery. The fried rice literally tasted old and like they got it from someone's old plate. I just can't believe this place is called a Chinese food joint. The only decent thing was the won ton soup and the prepackaged crackers. Not worth the $30. I would spend $30 to not go there. Best Chineese I believe I have ever had, I tried the American food as well and it is superb

The food was wonderful and fill of flavor. But, if you go in to eat, be prepared for an overly noisy environment and a lack of staff. Don't get me wrong, the waitress was super sweet and as on the ball as she could be, but it was only her serving damn near the whole place. Not to mention the fact that we had to wait almost 30 minutes to get our meal after we got the appetizer. The menu is kind of a pain in the a$$ also. If you want to switch any meat portion of your meal to chicken, it's either $1.00 or $1.25 per person per portion that you're switching to chicken. Plus, you can't replace one portion with a different type either. Overall, for the amount of food we got for the price and the general flavor, I would definitely order from here again, just takeout. read more

A combination plate comes with ice cream for dessert, but only if you have the ice cream inside the establishment. For some strange reason people who get the combo plate to go can't have a scoop of ice cream. The reason why was never really explained, but what would be the reason for this anyway? If I buy a combo plate shouldn't I get my ice cream in a nice little cup with a lid? Strangely enough people who have a combo plate in the restaurant can't have their ice cream to go either, they must eat it inside the restaurant. So, ordering food to go is okay, and taking your food out of the restaurant in a doggy bag is okay, but having your single scoop of ice cream outside the restaurant is wrong! Common sense should tell the owner of this restraint that its best if you just give the customer a scoop of ice cream in a little cup with a lid. This is one of our weekly lunch places. Great selection of senior and lunch specials. One of our favorites is an order of chicken chow mein and a bowl of won ton soup to share. I find both of them to be fresh, not lacking in chicken or flavor, which is in complete disagreement with another review. They also have very reasonably prices american food. This is now our favorite Chinese restaurant. The food is excellent, the service very good, the cost reasonable and the portions guarantee you'll have enough left over for lunch tomorrow. We do leftover chinese burritos. Don't laugh till you've tried it! I particularly like the lunch special fried ham (hold the sweeet and sour!). We've been going to the Hong Kong for many years, and we've never been disappointed in their food. You get ample servings for reasonable prices, and the food is always tasty and served hot. The waitresses are all friendly and give good service. In our opinion, they have the best burgers in town. If we want Chinese, we go to Hong Kong. If we want an excellent burger, we go to Hong Kong. I want to begin my stating I understand the impact these lame yelp reviews cause on a restaurant. It's unfortunate I attempted to solve my issue by talking to management directly before publicly "whining," however their lack of the understanding of hospitality led me to do this. To make a long, frustrating story short- they charged me ASTRONOMICALLY for making changes to my ordered items (one was to make fried rice vegetable rather than a meat in it, and one change was to have chicken instead of shrimp in something due to an allergy). The problem wasn't the charges, it was NOT being told about them up front- I made a phone order and had no menu to go off of, I simply called in our favorite items and asked them to make it family style. I attempted to talk it out with the manager that evening and she did not budge. She did offer me 10% off my NEXT visit at first, but I told her we were visiting and I'd really appreciate an adjustment this time. She wasn't helpful at all and to top it off...I SPENT MY NIGHT VOMITING! I didn't tell her that bit of news because I know they won't do anything hospitable about it, and I felt I'd need to mention it in my review so everyone else could be aware. This place is horrible even by GP standards. I only went here because a friend of mine wanted to eat here. The regulars here must be oblivious to all the cheapskate tactics this restaurant has. Like charging you for tea and not giving it to you because you didn't remind them to bring it, that's highly unethical. How about charging extra for "white meat" and getting bland chicken full of rib meat in every piece. The noodles were dry and tasted like re-fried Top Ramen. Our server was unattentive and seemed miserable. When brought to the attention of management, they claimed it was my fault for not reminding them to bring my drink. Right, how about admitting to your mistakes? I figured I wasn't going to get far arguing with someone who doesn't understand customer service or Engrish.
